Phil Larsen

SPEARMAN - Phil Larsen, 63, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010.

Services was at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Christian Church in Spearman. Burial was in Ochiltree Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Phil was born Feb. 23, 1947, in Clearfield, Utah. He married Sharalyn Schell on Dec. 12, 1975, in Evanston, Wyo.

He was a retired nurse who loved to travel in his black 2009 Corvette with his son, Joel. He had a special bond with his granddaughter, Kaeden.

Survivors include his wife, Sharalyn Larsen; three sons, Parrish Larsen of Ogden, Utah, Jace Larsen of Greenville and Joel Larsen of Norman, Okla.; a daughter, Jodi Wilson of Guymon, Okla.; a granddaughter, Kaeden Jae Wilson of Guymon; two grandsons, P.J. Larsen and Cody Larsen, both of Ogden; four brothers, Neal Larsen, Dave Larsen and Don Larsen, all of Utah, and Glenn Larsen of Oregon; and two sisters, Carol Babbitt of Bloomington, Ill., and Trish Larsen of Utah.

The family suggests memorials be to First Christian Church, P.O. Box 688, Fritch, TX 79036.

Mack Bevill, Jr.

GRUVER – Mack Bevill, Jr., 81, passed away Saturday night, December 4, 2010 at Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospice, Amarillo, Texas.

Memorial services will be Wednesday morning, December 8, 2010, 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church, Gruver with Rev. Scott Curry officiating. Interment will be in Gruver Cemetery by Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, Guymon, Oklahoma.

The son of Rosa (Hyde) and Henry Mack Bevill, Mack Bevill, Jr. was born March 20, 1929 on the family farm near Sweetwater, Texas. He graduated from Miller Grove High School in Miller Grove, TX in 1957 and then attended East Texas University. He was united in marriage to Patsy Gean Monk on December 23, 1950 in Clovis, New Mexico. The Bevill family moved to Gruver, Texas in 1968 and Mack farmed.

Mack was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Gruver where he led singing, taught Sunday School, and served as a deacon. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, active in the Gruver Lodge, AF&AM. Mack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Patsy Bevill; children, Debby and husband, Roy Mayhew

and Steve and wife, Tracy Bevill all of Gruver TX; four grandchildren, Josh and Shauna Mayhew of Colorado Springs, CO; Annie and Brandon Gilbert of Lubbock, TX; Brooke and Andrew McMurry of Dumas, TX; and Hunter and Jessie Bevill of Gruver, TX; five sisters, Pearlie Garrett of Emory, TX; Helen Ayres of Plainview, TX; Edith Breland of Dumas, TX; Sally Hendrick of Houston, TX; and Jo Seymour of Lubbock, TX and two brothers, Q.D. Bevill of Plainview, TX; and Carl Bevill of Kress, TX. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Leon Monk of Fort Worth, TX; and two great grandchildren, Cort Mayhew and Calvin Gilbert.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers J.L. Bevill, Clovis Bevill, and Wayne Bevill, and two sisters Martha Caston and Julia Anne Bevill.

Visitation and viewing was at the First Baptist Church, Gruver on Tuesday evening from 4-8 p.m..

Memorials may be given to the Hansford Manor, 707 Roland St, Spearman, TX 79081.

Sarah Wauneta Cole

SPEARMAN – Sarah Wauneta Cole, 94, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2010.

Family visitation will be held from December 9, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Cremation will be by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Sarah was born Indian Territory in Oklahoma on September 4, 1916. She had lived in the area for the past four years. She married J.F. (John Forrest) Cole in 1936 in Olton, TX. He preceded her in death in 1980.

Sarah was a homemaker and a member of the Olton Methodist Church. She lived for her family and was totally devoted to them. Five generations have loved her sewing.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Ann and Gary Kimbrough of Spearman and Joy Fern DeSha of Amarillo; one granddaughter, Tanya Michelle Kimbrough of Amarillo; three grandsons, Johnny Dee and Jerry DeSha, Kody Kyle an dKim Kimbrough and Craig Lee DeSha of Amarillo; 8 great-granddaughters, Lacie & Mike Perez of Amarillo, Danielle Nicole & Jeff Johnson of Spearman, Sarah Nicole DeSha of Amarillo, Maddison Leigh DeSha of Spearman, Colton Cole Close of Spearman, Kendall Brooke Kimbrough of Friona, Shelby Lee DeSha of Amarillo, and Kambree Lenae Kimbrough of Friona; 2 great-grandsons, John Forrest DeSha of Spearman and David Joe Caranza of Amarillo; 1 great-great grandson, Caiden Roy Jackson of Spearman; 2 great-great-granddaughters, Paisley Perez and Paiden Joy Perez of Amarillo; two brothers, Elbert & Joanne Gayne of Portales, NM and T.D. & Joyce Goyne of Albuquerque, NM; and a sister, Joyce Hallford of Clovis, NM.

The family requests memorials be to Hansford Hospice, 707 S. Roland, Spearman TX 79081.

Gary Neal Scroggs

PERRYTON – Gary Neal Scroggs, age 63, died Monday, December 6, 2010.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 10, at the Victory Family Church of Perryton, with Reverend Marlon Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Hansford Cemetery under direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Perryton.

Gary was born in Perryton on December 2, 1947. He was a commercial artist and constructed fence. Gary invented barbed wire gate openers, had a commercial art degree and had an industrial sign painting business for many years. He was known for his quick wit and dry sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Winfield and Grace Scroggs; and one brother, Buck Scroggs.

Survivors include a son, Scott Davis of Humble TX; a daughter, Toni Earle of Humble; a stepson, Steven Drake of Perryton; three brothers, Wilford Scroggs and Burl Scroggs, both of Dumas, Dale Scroggs of Stinnett; three sisters, Vera Longly of Elizabeth, CO, Cheryl McSorley of Littleton, CO and Sue Staggs of Waka; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family request memorials be to Giddeon’s, P.O. Box 254, Perryton, Texas, 79070 or one’s favorite charity.

Leo Cummings

SPEARMAN - Leo Cummings, 62, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29 in First Assembly of God Church. Burial was in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman

Mr. Cummings was born in Pampa and lived in the area his entire life. He married Phyllis Barclay on July 8, 1972, in Perryton. Leo was a utility maintenance worker for the city of Spearman for 36 years, and retired in 2009. He was a member of the Texas Water Utilities Association.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Cummings of Spearman; his mother, Stella Cummings of Spearman; two brothers, Wayne Cummings of Spearman and David Cummings of Dumas; and a sister, Joyce Pierce of Childress.

The family suggests memorials be to Hansford Hospice, 707 S. Roland St., Spearman, TX 79081.

Ima Gene Schott

GUYMON, Okla. - Ima Gene Schott, 85, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, in Spearman, Texas.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29 in Henson-Novak Funeral Directors Chapel in Guymon. Burial was in Elmhurst Cemetery.

Mrs. Schott was born July 16, 1925, in Jefferson to H.A. Hardenbrook and Mabel Bracken. She married Gus on Aug. 18, 1946.

Survivors include a daughter, Diana Marvin Tharp of Hardesty; two sons, Bill Schott of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Alan Schott of Liberal, Kan.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to the Empty Stocking Fund at Hansford Manor, 707 S. Roland St,, Spearman, TX 79081.

William Alfred White

CLAUDE - William Alfred White, 84, died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010.

Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30 in Claude Church of Christ with Jim Yates officiating. Burial was at 2 p.m. in Wellington Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Claude.

Alfred was born Feb. 18, 1926, at home in Lela to William Lesley White and Merle Elizabeth Hite White. He grew up in Quail and Wellington area and graduated from Wellington High School.

After high school, Alfred joined the U.S. Coast Guard, where his service on the USS Cambria took him through the invasion of the Marshall Islands, Saipan, Leyte, Lingayen Gulf and Okinawa.

Alfred was a minister of the Church of Christ and worked with congregations in Canadian, Bovina, Olton, Gruver, Texhoma, Okla., Amarillo, Aberdeen, S.D., Stratford and Groom.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Mary Nell Chandler White; three children, Bill White and wife Susie of Amarillo, Beth Graham and husband Bugs of Omaha, Neb., and Jim White and wife Janeane of Andrews; a grandson, Ky White and wife Kendra of Warner, Ga.; a sister, Betty White Tribble of Albuquerque, N.M.; and two sisters-in-law, Ladell Popwell and husband Leo of Wellington and Kay White of Richardson.

Viewing will be from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be to New Mexico Christian Home, 1356 N.M. 236, Portales, NM 88130.

Barbara Colene Thrash-Tevebaugh

TEXHOMA, Okla. - Barbara Colene Thrash-Tevebaugh, 74, died Friday, Nov. 26, 2010.

Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30 in Keyes Baptist Church in Keyes with Mark Nickles and Jerry Coldren officiating. Burial was in Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart, Kan., by Cimarron Mortuary of Boise City.

Barbara was born Sept. 24, 1936, Elkhart to Howard and Nellie Blakeley. She loved to craft and taught herself to sew, knit, crochet and in later years, made many quilts for family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Olen; two children Billy Thrash of Texhoma and Jonna Hierro of Guymon; six grandchildren; and three stepchildren, Jim Tevebaugh of Boise City, Jess Tevebaugh of Fremont, Mo., and Connie Werner of Spearman, Texas.

The family suggests memorials be to hospice or donor's choice, in care of the mortuary, P.O. Box 277, Boise City, OK 73933.

Rosalie Barbara Chitwood Regier

PERRYTON - Rosalie Barbara Chitwood Regier, 96, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, in Dumas.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 27 in Community Worship Center in Perryton with the Rev. Fred Huff of Balko, Okla., officiating. Burial wase in Ochiltree County Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Perryton.

Rosalie was born March 14, 1914, near Adrian, Mo., the second of five daughters and one son, to Hal and Jessie Chitwood.

The ministry took Rosalie and her husband, Jacob, to pastorates at Curtis, Okla., Wichita, Kan., Palm Springs, Calif., Hardesty, Okla., and Olathe, Colo. Texas pastorates include Vealmore near Big Spring, Center Point, Hempstead, Snyder, Wayside Chapel near Edna, Perryton, Dumas and Spearman. They conducted revivals in Oklahoma, Kentucky, Kansas, Texas, Missouri, Nebraska, Arkansas, Mississippi, Wyoming and California.

Rosalie and Jacob had been married for 54 years. He died in 1993.

Rosalie was a professional seamstress, Sunday school teacher and pianist. She had been Dean of Women at the Apostolic Faith Bible College in Baxter Springs, Kan.

Rosalie lived at The Seasons Assisted Living in Perryton for the past eight years.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Dale Regier; a daughter, Kaye Spradling; her parents; four sisters; and a brother.

Survivors include a daughter Joye Watson and husband Bill of Dumas; a son-in-law, Rolly Spradling of Portland, Oreg.; a daughter-in-law, Gwen Dardis and husband David of Fruita, Colo; five grandchildren, Jill Parker and husband Zack of Amarillo, Joy Lynn McGill and husband Mark of Tulsa, Okla., Cloyce and wife Gretchen of Portland, Jessica and husband David of Kansas City, Mo., and Jacob Spradling of Houston; and three great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Jacob and Kiar Parker of Amarillo.

The family suggests memorials to Apostolic Faith Bible College, P.O. Box 110, Baxter Springs, KS 66713; or Memorial Hospice, 224 E. Second St., Dumas, TX 79029.

Norman Burton

Norman Burton, 92, of Amarillo, formerly of Canadian, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010.

Services were at 4 p.m. Fri., Nov. 19th in Hughs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Canadian with the Rev. Tom Stribling officiating and Larry Mote assisting. Burial was in Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery in Canadian.

Norman was born Aug. 18, 1918, in Bard, N.M., to the late E.B. Burton and Dollie Starkey Burton. He attended schools in San Jon, N.M.

He married Lorene Massey on May 16, 1940, in San Jon. They moved to Claude before they settled in Hemphill County near Canadian.

Norman did custom baling and raised registered Yorkshire hogs and livestock. He served as Hemphill County commissioner and was a member of various organizations. He was an avid supporter of livestock shows.

The family would like to thank the staff of Canyon View Estates and Interim Hospice.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Cloyd Burton.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lorene Burton; four sons, Dorland Burton and wife Ann and Shelby Burton and wife Sue, all of Stratford, Oran Burton and wife Ann of Stinnett, and Duval Burton and wife Shirley of Spearman; two sisters, Mildred Mote and husband Hobart of Broadview, N.M., and Elsie Wiseman of Vega; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggest memorials be to a favorite charity.

Janelle Womble Steinkoenig

Janelle Womble Steinkoenig, 87, of Amarillo died Monday, Nov. 15, 2010.

Graveside services were at 3:30 p.m. Sat., Nov. 20th in Hansford Cemetery in Spearman. Memorial services were at 5 p.m. in Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors Minton Memorial Chapel in Borger with Jake Minton officiating.

Mrs. Steinkoenig was born Feb. 5, 1923, in Hansford County to Jesse and Lula Womble. She spent countless hours teaching primary schoolchildren in Spearman and Borger until her retirement after 38 years.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Steinkoenig of Boulder, Colo., and Mike Steinkoenig of Amarillo; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, Janelle asked that donations be in the form of educating a child.

John Irvin Farquhar

LUBBOCK - On Monday, Nov. 15, 2010, God our Savior called John Irvin Farquhar home.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate his life of 74 years at 1 p.m. Thurs., Nov. 18th at Oakwood Baptist Church. A time of fellowship and remembrance followed in church parlor. Arrangements are by Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers of Lubbock.

John was an avid golfer and became Texas Tech's first Southwest Conference Champion in any sport. As an amateur golfer, he played in the Master's four times and the National Open twice. He also was a member of the 1971 Walker Cup Team. John was also inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

On Sept. 5, 1959, he married Carolyn Wilmeth in Spearman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern Henry and Ada Grace Farquhar; and a sister, Joan Miller.

Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Carolyn; a son, John Wilmeth Farquhar of Lubbock; a daughter, Kristi Anna Adams and husband Jamie of Lubbock; three grandsons, Ryan Richardson, Logan Richardson and J. J. Adams, all of Lubbock; a sister, Jane Oliver and husband Bo of Richardson; a brother-in-law, Dee Miller of Amarillo; several nieces and nephews; and their beloved Shih Tzu, Muffin.

The family suggests memorials be to Ecclesia Church, 6007 66th St., Lubbock, TX 79424.
