Margaret Ellen Morlan

PROTECTION, Kan. - Margaret Ellen Morlan, 83, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, in Hays.

Graveside memorials services were at 2 p.m. Friday in Protection Cemetery in Protection with the Rev. Dennis Carter officiating. Arrangements were by Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home of Coldwater.

Mrs. Morlan was born May 23, 1927, in Protection to Benjamin and Leona Booth Brewer. She married Bill Morlan on Jan. 11, 1946, in Wichita.

Survivors include her husband of Russell; a son, Michael Morlan of Gruver, Texas; a daughter, Michelle Moore of Russell; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to American Heart Association; or American Cancer Society, in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 417, Coldwater, KS 67029.

Lola Andrews Newcomb

SPEARMAN - Lola Andrews Newcomb, 91, died Monday, Nov. 1, 2010.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in First Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Reeves officiating. Burial was in Holt Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Lola was born Oct. 16, 1919, in Springfield, Colo. She married Charles H. Newcomb on Oct. 2, 1937, in Spearman.

She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church of Spearman.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Survivors include a son, Chuck Newcomb of Morse; two granddaughters, Gia Phelps of Chandler, Ariz., and Charlinda Burns of Peoria, Ariz.; a grandson, Ronnie Newcomb of Riverside, Calif.; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Virgie Lee Cozbey

TULIA - Virgie Lee Cozbey, 85, died Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at her home in Tulia.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, November 4, 2010 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Bob Anderson officiating. Burial followed in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

Virgie Lee Waldrum was born May 16, 1925 in Bells, Texas. She married Robert Cozbey on November 23, 1942 in Durant, Oklahoma. She was a housewife.

Survivors include her husband: Robert Cozbey of Tulia, her children: Leona Smith of Pecos, Patricia Scott of Tulia, Jerry Cozbey of Dalhart, Robert Cozbey of Dimmitt, Judy Leavitt of Tulia and John Cozbey of Tulia, 31 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and 11 great, great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents: John and Maggie Waldrum, one daughter: Barbara Ann Haught, two brothers: Uell Waldrum and Vernon Waldrum, one sister: Vera Russell, two grandsons: Raymond Mathew Smith and Richard Lee Smith and one son-in-law: R.S. Smith.

Melvin Glen Fowlkes

BORGER - Melvin Glen Fowlkes, 79, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, in Amarillo.

Graveside rites were at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2010 in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon. Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Calvary Baptist Church in Borger with the Rev. Jeff Hutchison, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Mr. Fowlkes was born Dec. 31, 1930, in Donley County to John and Laura Fowlkes. He had a career with the Texas Department of Transportation that spanned for more than 42 years. He was an active deacon of Calvary Baptist Church, where he had been a member since 1948.

Survivors include his wife, Lydia Fowlkes; a son, John, of Little Rock, Ark.; a daughter, Melissa Eudy of Spearman; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Hutchinson County Library, 625 Weatherly St., Borger, TX 79007-3621.

Mary Jane Cayton DeArmond

Mary Jane Cayton DeArmond passed away Saturday November 6, 2010 in Alamogordo, NM.

Mary Jane was born Sept. 1 1934 a daughter of Norbon and Pearl Cayton. Mary Jane married Don DeArmond January 1953. They had four children Robert, Mary Lou, Dennis and James, (Bo).

Mary Jane was proceeded in death by her parents, a brother James, and a sister Martha Cayton Hayden.

Survivors include her four children Robert (Lynn) of Bearcreek, MT Mary Lou White (Charlie) of Ruidoso , New Mexico, Dennis (Regina) of Oklahoma and Bo (Terri) Dumas and a brother Wallie Cayton and his wife Jane and also her Grandchildren.

Leona Stavlo

GRUVER – Leona Stavlo, 84, lifelong Hansford County resident, passed away Friday, October 29, 2010 at her home in Gruver.

Leona Bernice Knutson was born November 4, 1925 to Cora (Stedje) and Emil Knutson on the farm in the Oslo community. She attended Gruver schools, graduating from GHS in 1943. She then attended two years at St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN and graduated from West Texas State College, Canyon, TX in 1948. She was married to Joel David Stavlo on April 4, 1948 at the Oslo Lutheran Church. The Stavlo family farmed and ranched. Mrs. Stavlo was active at Oslo Lutheran Church where she played the organ for many years. The Stavlos moved to Gruver in 1996. Leona had been active in the Gruver Music Club, the Station Master’s House Museum and Southwest Pioneer Windmill Association and was involved in the beautification of Gruver.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joel Stavlo who passed away January 2000, her son, John Mark Stavlo, April 2003 and her brother, Emil David Knutson, June 1990.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Mary Ann and Rick Andersen of Sioux Falls, SD; Alice and Randy Satrum of Parker, CO; Amy and J.P. TeBeest of Oslo; a son, Paul Stavlo and wife, Barbara of Gruver; daughter-in-law, Carol Stavlo of McKinney, TX; three sisters and their husbands, Louise and John Maakestad of Anchorage, AK; Amy and Jon Ericson of Pacific Grove, CA; and Kathryn and EG Hinchliffe of Carrollton, TX; and sister-in-law, Saralah Knutson Hogan of Amarillo, TX. She is also survived by her twelve grandchildren and spouses, Heather and Drew Williams of Aberdeen, Scotland; Noah and Chrissa Stavlo of Dallas, TX; Rob Andersen of Sioux Falls, SD; Dane and Dollie Andersen of Dell Rapids, SD; Airman Lance Andersen of Rapid City, SD; Karl and Mackenzie Satrum of Thornton, CO; Krystle Satrum of Brookline, MA; Charlie Stavlo of Austin, TX; Sammie and Wade Harkey of Oslo; Jason and Amber TeBeest of Gruver; Chad and Andrea TeBeest of Arvada, CO; and Mark and Melissa TeBeest of Oslo; five great grandchildren, Elle Stavlo, Dayton Andersen, Cora Harkey, and Abigail and Turner TeBeest; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted on Monday afternoon, November 1, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at the Oslo Lutheran Church with Pastor Arlen Lloyd officiating. Interment followed in the Oslo Lutheran Cemetery under the care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, Guymon, Oklahoma.

Visitation will be Sunday from 1-8:00 PM at the Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, 501 NW Fifth, Guymon.

The family has requested memorials be to the Oslo Lutheran Church, 8605 County Rd F, Gruver, TX 79040 or the Amarillo Area Foundation for the Gruver Scholarship Fund, c/o Gruver State Bank, P.O. Box 978, Gruver, TX 79042.

Leota “Mickey” Delano

Leota "Mickey" Delano, 95, longtime Gruver, Texas resident, passed away Saturday morning, October 30, 2010, at the Hansford Manor in Spearman, Texas.

The daughter of Harry Bethel and Lillie Safronia (Alexander) Aday, she was born June 11, 1915, in Jackson County, Oklahoma. Mickey was raised in the Duke area, where she graduated from Prairie Hill School in 1935.

Mickey and Merle A. Delano were united in marriage on October 10, 1935, in Jackson Co., Oklahoma, near Duke. They made their home in Duke until 1945, when they moved to Guymon and then in 1950, they moved to Gruver.

Mickey loved painting in all medias and especially loved painting china. She taught the art of china painting up until the last few years. She was a member of the Gruver China Club and the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Duke.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle Delano; her daughter, Gloria Cooper; one grandson, Randy Hardesty; a great great granddaughter, Hannah Stephenson; four sisters: Vesta Patterson, Jenny Sledge, Pauline Powell and Zella Smith; and one brother, Deward Aday.

Survivors include two grandsons, John and his wife, Connie Hardesty of Guymon and Brad Hardesty of Gruver, Texas; one granddaughter, Lesa and her husband, Rick Marrell of Amarillo, Texas; four great grandchildren: Lexy and her husband, Justin Gift of Guymon, Melissa and her husband, Steve Jones of Amarillo, Texas, Mandy Stephenson of Pampa, Texas, and Shawn and his wife, Angel Stephenson of Dallas, Texas; twelve great great grandchildren and one sister, Iva and husband, Jimmie Jones of Amarillo, Texas, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon, November 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Gruver Cemetery in Gruver, Texas, with Pastor Gary Gumfory officiating. Services were under the care of the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.

The family suggests that memorials be given to the Gruver Library. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942. Friends can sign the online guest book and leave condolences at www.bunchroberts.com.

Esmeralda Nava Renteria

GRUVER - Esmeralda Nava Renteria, 61, died Sunday, October 24, 2010.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Hansford Cemetery with Rev. Brad Reeves officiating. Internment was by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Esmeralda was born in Alice, TX on December 20, 1948. She had lived in the area for 39 years. She married Jesus Renteria on November 20, 1970 in Spearman.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who brought joy with cooking and laughter into the lives of everyone she met.

Esmeralda was preceded in death by her parents, Conrado and Bertha Nava; a brother, Richard Nava; an a sister, Mary Lou Nava.

She is survived by her husband, Jesus Renteria, of Gruver; three sons, JJ and Margaret Renteria of Clovis, NM, Paul Renteria of Gruver, and Sammy and Jennifer Renteria of Fresno, CA; a sister, Esther and Arthur Vargas of Spearman; 11 grandchildren Michael, Jacob, Maggie, Kelsey and Brooke Renteria of Clovis, NM, Damian Rhnae, Avery and Kenny Robinson of Clovis, NM, Carter and Conrad Renteria of Fresno, CA; nieces and nephews, Bertha, Arthur Jr. and Albert Vargas of Spearman; and her Lotteria Amigas, Maria Pacheco and Nancy Padilla.

The family requests memorials be to the American Heart Association, 6605 I-40 W, Suite A6, Amarillo TX 79106.

Callie Danay Giles

SPEARMAN - Callie Danay Giles, 32, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2010.

Funeral services were Saturday, October 23 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Spearman, TX. Internment was at Hansford County Cemetery under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Callie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bill and Cricket Giles of Spearman.

She is survived by a daughter, Chayton Jolie Reeves of Keller; her parents, Billy and Monette Giles of Weatherford; a brother and sister-in-law, Clif and Lindsey Giles of Katy; grandparents Cecil and Mona Slater of Spearman; uncles and aunts Steven and Kathy Slater of Hobbs, NM, David Slater of Fritch, Mike and Dana Slater of Fritch, Perry and Martha Giles, David and Mary Giles, and William and Elaine Giles, all of Greensville, SC and many cousins.

A memorial fund in the name of ‘Callie Danay Giles’ has been set up at Plains Capital Bank, PO Box 2959, Weatherford, TX 76086, Acct #3740026947.

Gloria Cooper

HITCHLAND - Gloria Cooper, 71, of Hitchland, Texas; passed away Saturday, October 23rd, 2010 at the Hansford County Hospital in Spearman, Texas.

The daughter of Merle and Mickey (Aday) Delano, she was born on June 27, 1939 in Hollis, Oklahoma. The family moved from Hollis to the Gruver area in 1945. Gloria graduated from Gruver High School.

Gloria and Johnny Hardesty were married on August 15, 1956 in Gruver, Texas. To this union four children were born.

Gloria and Billy Cooper were united in marriage on May 8, 1981. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker after retiring from Phillips Petroleum in 1994.

She was preceded in death by her father, Merle Delano; her husband, Billy Copper; son, Randy Hardesty, and a great granddaughter, Hannah Stephenson.

Survivors include her mother, Mickey Delano of Gruver; two sons, John and his wife, Connie Hardesty of Guymon and Brad Hardesty of Liberal, Kansas; one daughter, Lesa and her husband Rick Marrell of Amarillo, Texas. Survivors also include four grandchildren: Lexy and her husband, Justin Gift of Guymon, Melissa and her husband, Steve Jones of Amarillo, Texas, Mandy Stephenson of Pampa, Texas, and Shawn and his wife, Angel Stephenson of Dallas, Texas, and twelve great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon, October 29th at 2:00 p.m. at the Gruver Cemetery in Gruver, Texas with Pastor Gary Gumfory officiating. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.

Marguerite A. Nelson

SPEARMAN - Marguerite A. Nelson, 89, died on Monday, October 19, 2010.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 22, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Hansford Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Medley officiating. Interment will be under the direction of Boxwell Brothers funeral Home of Spearman, TX.

Marguerite was born in Green Ridge, MO on December 19, 1920. She had lived in the area for 51 years. She married Roscoe Nelson on July 3, 1938 in Perryton, TX. He preceded her in death in 2002.

Marguerite was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Spearman.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, James and Mary Ellen Ulmer; a grandson, Chuck Eaton; a son-in-law, Charles Eaton; a sister, Virginia White; and a brother, Junior Ulmer.

Survivors include three daughters, Joanne Eaton of Spearman, Donna & Jack Vanderburg of Dalhart, and Rhonda & Jeff Burress of Mustang, OK; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be to First Baptist Church, Building Fund, PO Box 399, Spearman TX 79081, or Hansford Cemetery, 707 E. 2nd, Spearman TX 79081.

Willie Jones Clawson

SPEARMAN - Willie Jones Clawson, 90, died Friday, October 15, 2010.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday, October 18, 2010 in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home Chapel in Perryton with the Rev. Tim Ramsey officiating. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. in Texline Cemetery.

Willie was born March 11, 1920, in Laird, CO. She married W.E. "Jonesy" Jones in 1941. He died in 1986.

She married Dutch Clawson in 1994. He died in 1997.

Willie was a nurse for many years. While in Perryton, she worked for Kingle Pearson. She was a Baptist.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Lee Witt in 1994; a sister, Ruth Zielke; and a brother, J.R. Ainsworth.

Survivors include two sons, John R. Adamson of Perryton and Arnold Jones of Waka; a daughter, Donna Jones Coates of Waka; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Hansford Hospice, 707 Roland St., Spearman, TX 79081.

Anona Pearl Seitz

SPEARMAN - Anona Pearl Seitz, 88, died Thursday, October 7, 2010.

No services are planned.

Anona was born in Farwell, OK on December 14, 1921. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.

Preceded in death by her husband, Roy Seitz; a son, William Wesley Watson; her parents Virgil & Elizabeth Hull; and a sister, Margaret Novak.

She is survived by her granddaughter, Elfie Faulkner of Copperas Cove, TX.
