Randall Alan Willis

Randy Willis, 59, of Lubbock died Monday, September 20, 2010.

Randy was born June 6, 1951 to Earl and Catherine Willis in Sanger, Texas. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1969, where he met his wife, Jackie Daniels, and earned a Bachelor's in Music from Abilene Christian University in 1973. He married Jackie May 26, 1973.

He was a band director for 36 years, sharing his love of music with students at schools all over West Texas, including Plains, Lubbock-Cooper, Olton, Littlefield, Spearman, and others. He was employed by Whiteface ISD as the assistant director, and loved the administration there very much. He was a teacher and mentor who was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Catherine Willis.

Survivors include his wife; daughter and son-in-law, Brandi and David Schreiber of Lubbock; father, Earl Willis of Keller; sister, Sandra Isler of Keller; and two nephews and their families.

At the time of death, he donated his organs to LifeGift, helping an estimated 50 people.

Services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 25, 2010 at South Plains Church of Christ with Minister Dan McCasland and Principal James German officiating. Burial followed at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.

LaRue “MurMur” Whitefield

SPEARMAN - LaRue "MurMur" Whitefield, 79, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday in Church of Christ with John Scott and Larry McCollum officiating. Burial was in Hansford Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

LaRue was born May 11, 1931, in East Afton. She married Harvey "Red" Whitefield on March 6, 1947, in Dumont.

LaRue was a homemaker and had a snow cone truck from 1987 to 1989. She owned and operated MurMur's Cafe from 1989 to 1998. She was a member of Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey "Red" Whitefield, in 1995; and a son, Donlane Whitefield, in 2004.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Gale Mayfield and husband Fred of Spearman; three sons, Harvey D. Whitefield and wife Gale of Canadian, and Ted Whitefield and wife Cheryl and Ed Whitefield and wife Tanja, all of Spearman; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Hansford Hospice, 707 Roland St., Spearman, TX 79081.

Geneva Stevens Langley

SUNRAY - Geneva Stevens Langley, 81, formerly of Sunray, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2010.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday in Sunray Baptist Church with Rick Stevens and Ed Stevens, Mrs. Langley's sons, officiating. Burial was in Lane Memorial Cemetery by Morrison Funeral Directors.

Geneva was born Oct. 18, 1928, in Floyd County to Dennis and Bertha Ford. She attended school and graduated from Spearman High School in 1946. She married Verlon Stevens on Nov. 17, 1945, in Spearmans. He preceded her in death on June 25, 1967.

She married Rex Langley on Jan. 25, 1968, in Sunray.

Geneva was a homemaker who loved to sew and cook. She was very active in WMU, serving as the association director for many years. She also was a member of the Sunray Baptist Church. She had been a resident of Sunray for 63 years.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Paul Rex Langley; a brother, Dennis Ford Jr.; and a sister, Barbara Jackson.

Survivors include her husband, Rex; four sons, Rick Stevens and wife Marcia of Sunray, Ed Stevens and wife Beth of Bradford Pa., Steve Langley and wife Jana of Claremore Okla., and Les Langley and wife Paige of Kingwood; two daughters, Verna Ehlert and husband Dave of Draper, Utah, and Carla Brown and husband Floyd of Corpus Christi; three sisters, Nina Thomas, Dorothy Cline and Shirley McNew; 14 grandchildren, Rebecca, Deborah, Rachel, Leah, James, Carder, Cason, Kaitlyn, Zach, Stevie Jo, Alexis, Rex, Luke and Hope; and four great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Gideons International, P.O. Box 432, Dumas TX 79029.

David Truitt Johnson

SPEARMAN - David Truitt Johnson, 36, died Monday, September 13, 2010.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Morse Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Stevens and Pastor Wes Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in McLain, TX with Reverend Thacker Haynes officiating under direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Leroy E. Smith

PERRYTON - Leroy E. Smith, 85, died on Wednesday, September 15, 2010.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Perryton on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Laverty officiating. Internment will be in Ochiltree Cemetery under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Leroy was born in Ochiltree County, Texas on October 21, 1924. He had lived in the area his entire life. He married May Lee Harbour on December 18, 1942 in Spearman, TX.

He was a lifetime farmer and rancher and loved to fly. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Perryton. He was an Ochiltree County Commissioner for 9 years and was on the board of directors at Baptist Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Amarillo.

Leroy loved his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by h is parents, Fred and Cora Smith; a son, Gary Leroy Smith in 1967; and a daughter, Connie Weis in 2006.

Survivors include his wife, May Lee of Perryton; and a son, Larry Don Smith of Perryton; 7 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 1272, Perryton TX 79070; or one’s favorite charity.

Minnie Lee Perkins

SPEARMAN - Minnie Lee Perkins, 87, died on Sunday, September 12, 2010.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Abundant Life Temple with Rev. Roger McCoy officiating. Interment will be in Silo Cemetery under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Minnie was born in Eldorado, OK on October 17, 1922. She married Rhomer T. Johnson on August 31, 1940. She was also married to Jim McCarthy. She married to Elvin Maynard Perkins on May 26, 1963.

She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Temmie Higgins; her husband, Elvin Maynard Perkins; a daughter, Kimberly McCarthy; and three sisters, Faye Montgomery, Nina May Lindley and Bonnie Mitchell.

She is survived by three daughters, Nikki Swenn and her husband of Spearman, Dana and John Decker of Princeton, TX, and Charlene and Gerald Mullins of Mustang, OK; four sons, Kerry and Phyliss Johnson of Las Vegas, NV, Rhomer “Tony” and Marianne Johnson of Las Vegas, NF, Stephen “Mike” Johnson of Las Vegas, NV, and Kenneth and Mary Perkins of Lubbock; two sisters, Juanita McIntyre of Don, TX and Connie Holland of Turkey, TX; 22 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Calvin James Babitzke

BORGER - Calvin James Babitzke, 63, of Borger passed away Sunday Sept. 5th at his home in Borger.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Cornerstone Church with Pastor Shian Klassen officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4 p.m. at Hansford Cemetery in Spearman under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Calvin was born Sept. 13, 1946 at Canadian, TX to Henry and Christina Babitzke. He served in Law Enforcement for many years. He worked for Lipscomb County 25 years, sixteen years as Sheriff. He later worked for Hutchinson County. He married Geneva Longley on June 9, 1967 at Spearman, TX. Calvin was a member of Cornerstone Church in Borger where he was head usher.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Geneva of Borger; mother, Christina Babitzke of Canadian; a special son, Jason Pudwell of Dallas; a brother, Buford Babitzke and wife Karen of Spearman; a sister, Eline Burch and husband Don of Canadian; two brothers-in-law, Darrel Longley and wife Vera of Elizabeth, CO and Clifton Longley and wife Twila of Vici, OK; 4 nieces; 7 nephews; and a host of friends.

The family suggests donations be made to Cornerstone Church, PO Box 3172, Borger TX 79008.

Vernon Hiram Edens

Vernon Hiram Edens, 92, lifelong area resident passed away Sunday afternoon, August 29, 2010 at the Hansford Manor in Spearman, Texas.

The son of Hiram and Maud Frances (Carley) Edens, he was born September 8, 1917 in Hough, Oklahoma. Vernon was raised in the Hough Community. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Vernon and Norma Evylene Ogan were united in marriage on June 13, 1942 at Liberal, Kansas. They made their home in Guymon and Goodwell, before moving to Gruver in 1963. Mr. Edens worked as a mechanic and a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Gruver First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hiram and Maud Edens; brother, Raymon Otis Edens; sister, Mary Ogan and two infants.

Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Norma Edens of the home, two brothers-in-law: George and wife, Barbara Ogan of Weatherford, Oklahoma and Dexter and wife, Loretta Ogan of Fresno, California and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning, September 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Gruver with Pastor Scott Curry officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon.

The family suggests that memorials be given to the Hansford Hospice. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma.

Clauda Dalynn Brummett

PORTAGE, IN – Clauda Dalynn Brummett, 57, of Portage, Indiana, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 in Chicago, Illinois after a courageous health struggle.

She was born January 1, 1953 in Perryton, Texas, to Orvil and Colene Brummett. The family moved to Spearman in 1962 when Dalynn was in the fourth grade. While attending Spearman High School, she was a member of the Lynxettes basketball team and served as president of the Senior Class of 1971.

She married Gary Johnson in 1973, and they later divorced.

She received her B.S. in Pharmacy from Southwest Oklahoma State University in 1976. After moving to Kansas, she worked as a registered pharmacist while raising her two beloved sons.

In 1992, she graduated Magna Cum Laude receiving her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College of Kansas City, MO. She completed her post-doctoral studies in Chiropractic Neurology, becoming a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist in 2000.

Her patients were her passion; she was always on the cutting edge, wanting to learn more and find better ways to help them. She specialized in physically and mentally handicapped adults and children. She worked with spectrum children (those with ADD, ADHD, Autism, Down Syndrome and other brain traumas) with great success. She was highly respected by her colleagues and loved by her patients.

In 1996 she was honored to receive the Symbols of Caregiving Award from Fox News in Kansas City for her treatment of underprivileged children in O’Connell Youth Ranch, where she graciously volunteered her professional services for several years.

She is survived by her parents, devoted sons Chad Johnson and fiancee Jacqueline Diibon of Ypsilanti, MI and Chase Johnson and wife Sha’laun of Manhatten, KS; brother Trent Brummett and wife Liz of Round Rock, TX; grandson Anthony Johnson of Ypsilanti, MI; niece and nephew, Alexa and Evan Brummett of Round Rock, TX; dear friend and caregiver, Kathy Williams of Portage, IN; and many grateful patients and their families.

Her services pending, and will be held in Portage, IN.

The family suggests any memorials be made in her name to the American Diabetes Association, 8008 Slide Road, Suite 12A, Lubbock TX 79424, or a favorite charity.

Oddilee Bishop Reddin

GRUVER - Oddilee Bishop Reddin, 87 of Spearman, TX passed away Sunday August 29, 2010. Memorial services were held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at First Assembly of God in Sunray, Texas with Rev. Royce Mathews officiating. Arrangements were by Morrison Funeral Directors.

Oddilee was born August 1, 1923 in Merkel, TX to Grover and Ella Bishop. She married Douglass Wesley Reddin on November 8, 1940 in Merkel. He preceded her in death in 1982.

Oddilee was a dedicated homemaker. Her hobbies included doll collecting, spending time with her grandchildren & great-grandchildren, and she liked to dance. She was a member of the First Assembly of God of Sunray.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Wesley Steve Reddin.

Survivors include; daughter, Betty Mathews and husband Royce of Gruver; two sisters, Modine Blalock of Stockton, CA and Evelyn Beatty of Sacramento, CA; three grandchildren, Raquel Whitehead of Perryton, Ryan Mathews and wife Rebecca of Gruver, and Robbi Wright of Gruver; and ten great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions to: Hansford Co. Hospice, 707 S. Roland Street, Spearman, TX 79081; American Diabetes Association, 8008 Slide Rd 12A, Lubbock, TX 79424; or to a favorite charity.

Martha Elizabeth Haden

AMARILLO - Martha Elizabeth Haden, 77, of Amarillo died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010.

Burial was at 10 a.m. Monday in Hansford County Cemetery. Memorial services were at 3 p.m. in Saint Stephen United Methodist Church in Amarillo with the Rev. Ken Cole, associate pastor, officiating. Arrangements were by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mrs. Haden was born Dec. 5, 1932, in Texhoma, Okla., to Norbon and Pearl Cayton. She married Billie Haden on Dec. 21, 1952. She lived in Spearman for 57 years before moving to Amarillo in 2000.

Mrs. Haden was a member of First United Methodist Church in Spearman and upon moving to Amarillo she joined Saint Stephen United Methodist Church, where she sang in the S.T.A.R.S Choir, Celebration Singers and was a pianist for the Cherubs.

As a season ticket holder, Mrs. Haden enjoyed both the Amarillo Symphony and Broadway Series. She loved watching and being involved with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Billie Haden, on June 13, 1999; and a brother, James Cayton.

Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Haden and wife Kym of Frisco and Billy Haden and wife Lynn of Amarillo; a brother, Wallie Cayton and wife Jane of Amarillo; a sister, Mary Jane DeArmond of Roswell, N.M.; and five grandchildren, Sadie Anderson of Sunray, Cami Haden and Roy Haden, both of Amarillo, and Cooper Haden and Chase Haden, both of Frisco.

The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105; or Saint Stephen United Methodist Church, Music Ministry, 4600 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79109.

Robert Yanke

GUYMON, OK – Robert Yanke, 98, passed away Monday evening, August 30, 2010 at the Hansford Manor, Spearman, Texas.

He was born April 10, 1912 in Enid, Oklahoma. He was adopted by Daniel and Dora Dea Yanke at birth. He married Hannah Kirschman on November 15, 1931 in Booker, Texas.

He was a farmer most of his life, owning a farm in Beaver County, Oklahoma, then moving to a farm in Welch, Oklahoma. After selling his farm near Welch, he came to Gruver. Texas and was employed on the JC Harris farm for several years. After retiring from farming, he and Hannah moved to the Plainview School, near Griggs, OK, working as the cook and janitor.

The Yankes moved to Guymon and Robert worked at Texas County Feed Yard for several years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Hannah passed away February 1, 1995. In 2002, Mr. Yanke moved into the Hansford Manor in Spearman, TX.

Survivors include three sons, Albert Yanke and wife, Karlynn of Wakeeney, KS; Clarence Yanke and wife, Marilyn of Sunray, TX; and Vernon Yanke and wife, Alco of Amarillo, TX; a daughter, Bonita McKisson of San Antonio, TX; ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; and a half sister – Dora Mae and James Terry, of Perryton, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his biological mother, Anna Koop Nightengale; wife, Hannah Kirshman Yanke; sister, Alma Worth and brother, Rudolph McCrady.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon, September 3rd, 2:00 PM, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1212 North Crumley, Guymon, OK with Pastor Mark Wescoatt, officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery under the care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors.

Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Hansford Hospice, P.O. Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.
