Stan Jenkins

SPEARMAN - Stan Jenkins, 65, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hansford Cemetery with Tom Moore officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Mr. Jenkins was born March 10, 1944, in Garvin, Okla. He was a salesman, employed by Frito-Lay for 25 years and Hansford Implement for five years. He owned and operated a family laundromat.

He loved to go to Taos, N.M., and go fishing. He was an Oklahoma Sooners fan and loved to watch the birds at his feeder. He was a great father and a good, hardworking man.

Survivors include two daughters, Charlotte Cooper of Houston and Shannon Young and husband James of Taos; a son, Joe Jenkins and wife Davy of Amarillo; two brothers, Bill Jenkins of Hot Springs, Ark., and Randy Jenkins of Dallas; and two grandsons, Adam Cooper and Dalton Cooper, both of Houston.

The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.

John Martin Scott

Guymon, OK - John Martin Scott, 81, longtime area farmer, passed away Thursday morning, September 10, 2009 at his home.

The son of Cecilia Anne (Keenan) and Albert Scott, he was born October 19, 1927 in Guymon. The Scott family lived in the Hitchland community and have always farmed in the area. John graduated from Guymon High School with the Class of 1947 and later attended Hutchinson Business College in Hutchinson, Kansas. It was in Hutchinson that he met the young Anne Lee Brawner and they were married on October 22, 1949. Anne and John moved back to Guymon in 1951. John has remained active in the family farm business.

A member of AF&AM, Guymon Lodge #335, he was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a longtime volunteer as a Reserve Deputy for the Texas County Sheriff's Department and was the Assistant Civil Defense Director for many years. He was also a longtime supporter of the Texas County Junior Livestock Show and was a member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Anne Scott, two son, Philip Scott and wife, Della; and Terry Scott, and two granddaughters, Jennifer Anne Scott and Kristine Renee Scott, all of Guymon. He is also survived by a sister, Patricia Pearcy and husband, Jim, of Seattle, Washington and brother, Robert L. (Bob) Scott and his wife, Joann of Guymon; and many other nieces, nephews and relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, twin infant brothers, Elbert and Albert Scott, and a sister, Mary Lou Mitchusson.

Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon, 2:00 P.M., September 14, 2009 at Victory Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Danny Logan, pastor of Bell Avenue Baptist Church, Amarillo, TX and Rev. Barry Bennett, associate pastor of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in Elmhurst Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Guymon F.F.A. Chapter, c/o Henson-Novak Funeral Directors, P.O. Box 1306, Guymon, OK 73942.

Clarence Dixon

BORGER - Clarence Dixon, 72, died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Brown Funeral Directors Chapel of the Fountains.

Mr. Dixon was born April 10, 1937, in Blue Ash, Ohio, to Raymond and Gladys Dixon. He married Patsy Trigg on Aug. 16, 1957. in Borger.

Survivors include a son, Randy Dixon of Borger; two daughters, Angela Wendel of Houston and Debbie Tolleson of Pringle-Morse; a sister, Eleanora Turner of Williamsburg, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Richard McDonald – October 29, 2010

Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 1, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo with Dr. Jim Bankhead and Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo.

McDonald, retired President and CEO of Texas Cattle Feeders Association, died following an inspiring year-long battle with cancer.

Richard Peterson McDonald’s life of service to agriculture began with his birth on February 21, 1944, in Clifton,Texas to Roy and Werner McDonald. He grew up in San Benito, honing his leadership abilities in FFA and 4-H activities, including serving as Chairman of the State 4-H Council.

Following graduation from San Benito High School, Richard attended Texas A & M University, graduating with a BS in animal science in 1966. He then graduated from Louisiana State University with a MS in 1969 and PhD in 1972 in animal breeding, nutrition and statistics. His first job was with Texas Agricultural Extension Service as an Area Livestock Specialist in the Dallas area.

Dr. McDonald joined Texas Cattle Feeders Association as Executive Assistant in 1974 and retired as President and CEO in 2006, leaving giant footprints on the growth of the Association over more than 30 years. His strengths in research and regulatory areas coincided with the organization’s growth. His integrity and credibility in legislative affairs led to major political victories for TCFA and national organizations.

Upon retirement from TCFA, he continued service to cattle organizations across the United States and was a consultant with McCormick Company in Amarillo until his death.

At the time of his death, Dr. McDonald was serving on the West Texas A & M University Foundation Board and was appointed the Canadian River Compact Commissioner by Gov. Rick Perry in 2009.

Recognitions over the years have included the Distinguished Service to Texas Agriculture Award from Professional Ag Workers of Texas in 1985; Man of the Year in Texas Agriculture from the Texas County Agricultural Agents Association in 1996; Blue and Gold Award from Texas FFA in 1997; Outstanding Alumnus, Texas A & M University in 1999; Gerald W. Thomas Outstanding Agriculturist Award from Texas Tech University in 2002; first recipient Industry Leadership Award, Cattle Feeders Hall of Fame, 2010.

Richard McDonald and Sharon Tolzien were married on October 5, 1979 in Amarillo. Richard was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Kelly McDonald in 2008.

He is survived by his wife Sharon; two sons, Lanny McDonald and his wife Deanna of Amarillo and Lyle McDonald and his wife Myra of Round Rock; one daughter, Lori Price and her husband Danny of Tyler; a daughter-in-law, Kerri McDonald of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren; two brothers, Roy McDonald and wife Rhea of Georgetown and Robert McDonald and wife Darleen of San Benito; sister-in-law, Sandra Woodward and husband Tom of Amarillo; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Richard McDonald Leadership Institute has been established in honor of his legacy. The program offers leadership development and training for young people involved with cattle organizations throughout the United States. Felicitas Valadez-October 28, 2010

Mrs. Valadez was born on May 2, 1928 in El Paso County, Texas to Alberto and Dimas Mata. She had worked at the hospital in Tulia as a Registered Nurse for many years and had also worked in Amarillo at St. Anthony’s Hospital. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Yolanda M. Ruiz of San Anna, CA; a son, Tony Hernandez of Amarillo; three grandchildren, Dymas Michelle Pena, Dynelle Maureen Ceja and David Marco Ruiz; eight great grandchildren and many other friends and extended family who loved her dearly.

Doug (Prock) Ice- October 21, 2010

Douglas Wayne Ice, 53, of Whitney, Texas, formerly of Amarillo passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2010 after a long illness in a Fort Worth hospital. He was surrounded by his wife, son, mother, brothers-in-law and closest friends.Ice obit photo

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Freedom Baptist Church, 900 Alta Vista St., with Pastor Alvin Walker officiating.

Doug was born on January 5, 1957 in Hollis, OK, the son of Kenneth Ice and Audrey Simmons Prock. He loved Jesus. He had several professions during his lifetime, the latest being a hydraulic technician.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ice of Whitney; two sons, Jason and Jeffrey Ice of Whitney; his mother, Audrey Simmons Prock of Amarillo; his step father, Herbert Prock of Amarillo; two brothers, Eddie Prock and wife Teresa and Steven Prock, all of Amarillo; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Gayle Marie Kennedy Ketterlin-October 25, 2010

Gayle was born on October 9, 1949 in Newcastle, Wyoming, the 1st of six daughters born to Donald and Beverly Kennedy. She worked for Thompson R-2J School District in Loveland, CO and Canyon ISD, Westover Park Jr. High for over twenty-seven years. She was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church and an active member of peo, chapter CB. Her first love was her family. She was an avid gardener, loved entertaining, and traveling. She loved quilting, crafts, and people. Gayle married her husband, Don of thirty-nine years on January 30, 1971.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Don and Beverly Kennedy, her grandparents, Willard and Elizabeth Kennedy and Preston and Josie Blakley, several aunts and uncles and one niece.

Survivors include her husband, Don Ketterlin; two sons, Derek and wife Kristy, Brian and wife Stacy, all of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Sadie, Zoey, Claire, Britton and Hannah, all of Amarillo; five sisters, Sherry Schroepfer of Washington, MO, Vickie Mader of Sheridan, WY, Susan Dasher of Mountain View, WY, Karen Cattles of Casper, WY and Lori Baggs of Sheridan, WY; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Virginia Berry Johnson-October 26, 2010

At 10:15 a.m. on Friday morning, October 29, burial will be held at Llano Cemetery followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Virginia was born on May 4, 1922 in Norman, Oklahoma to Robert C. and Florence W. Berry. She was educated in Norman, graduating from University High School and attending the University of Oklahoma. While at OU, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.

She found love twice in her life, first with Robert E. Fiss, a career military officer, and second with Montford T. Johnson, Jr., of Amarillo. During her initial marriage, Virginia lived in Germany, Japan and France, plus residences in ten different states. It was truly a life of adventure, exploration and cultural immersion. Marriage to M.T. brought a greater sense of permanence as Amarillo became Virginia’s home for the next forty-two years. World travel remained a significant part of her life as they attended United States Golf Association tournaments and executive meetings around the globe and traveled extensively with friends.

Her life was one in which the lives and actions of her spouses, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother and niece were totally entwined with hers. Her love for all was tremendous.

She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and a nephew.

Survivors include a son, Richard Berry Fiss and wife Dawn of Greenwich, Connecticut; a daughter, Susan Underhill of Dallas; four step children, Berkley McKeever of New York City, Margaret Herring and husband James of Amarillo, M.T. Johnson, III of Amarillo, Betty Wagner and husband Tommy of Charlotte, NC; a brother, Robert W. Berry and wife DiAnn of Tulsa, OK; twelve grandchildren, Stirling Fiss, Brett Underhill, Kelley Underhill Massoud, Jonathan McKeever, William McKeever, Monty McKeever, Edward Herring, Becca Herring Schweppe, Abbie Johnson, Graham Johnson, T.J. Wagner and Johnson Wagner; eighteen great grandchildren; and a niece, Judy Berry Ingraham and husband Jack of Tulsa.

Family suggests memorials be made to the Presbyterian Children’s Home, 3400 Bowie St. Amarillo, TX 79109, or to a charity of your choice.

Daniel R. Sustaita – October 27, 2010

Funeral service will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Christian Life Center. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Daniel was born on April 11, 1938 in Cuero, Texas to Manuela and Gabriel Sustaita Sr. He had retired from Pantex after working there for over 34 years. He was involved with Boys Ranch, the Latin American Bible Institute, Faith City Mission, and the Salvation Army. Daniel was a member of the Christian Life Center where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, treasurer, deacon, and song leader.

He married Ester Cantu on August 30, 1957.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Ester of Amarillo; a daughter, Diana Chavez and husband Raymond of Amarillo; three granddaughters, Lauren Ramirez, Marissa Ramirez, and Miranda Ramirez; two grandsons, Paul Chavez and Anthony Chavez; a great-granddaughter, Jocelyn Madison Chavez; a brother, Gabriel Sustaita Jr. of Electra; a sister, Josephine Sustaita Vasquez and husband Robert of Arizona; and special family friends, Lynda, Jonathan, and Lyndsey Cruz, all of San Antonio.

John Lucien Upshaw-October 24, 2010

John Lucien Upshaw, 91, of rural Randall County died Sunday, October 24, 2010.

He was born in Dallas to Hazel Cooke and Fancher Upshaw on February 28, 1919. The family moved to Amarillo in 1926. He attended Amarillo Public Schools and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1935. He then got a B.A. degree at Texas Tech and a Masters degree at the University of Colorado, Boulder, in 1950. During World War II he was in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific, rising to the rank of Major.

He married his high school classmate, Emily SoRelle, and together they operated a family farm and ranch in Randall County. After more than fifty-one years together, she preceded him in death in 1995. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Fancher Upshaw, Jr.

He is survived by three children, Carolyn Mulanax and husband Wayne of Amarillo, Katie Johnson and husband David of Tulsa, John Upshaw, Jr. and wife Alice of the farm in Randall County; three grandsons and two great grandsons.

At his request private final arrangements will be made by his immediate family. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

The family suggests memorials to Faith City Ministries, 401 S.E. 2nd Ave. Amarillo, TX 79101, or a charity of choice.

Kirk Davis-October 26, 2010

Kirk was born on October 17, 1956 in Amarillo, Texas to Robert and Rose Ann Davis. He graduated from Tascosa High School and had worked as a realtor and certified nursing assistant. Kirk was a lifelong animal lover, an excellent cook and a good neighbor. He enjoyed sharing his talents with his friends and neighbors. His care giving skills brought well being and comfort to his grandparents, Hazel and Joseph Davis and Lorraine and Paul Conty. His quick humor will be missed and so shall he.

Survivors include his parents, Robert and Rose Ann Davis of Amarillo; two brothers, Todd Davis and wife Mary of Bakersfield, CA and Craig Davis and wife Amonda of Amarillo; his niece and nephews, Claire, Craig, Jr., Jacob, Joseph and Jarrett Davis; two aunts, Jean Gaut and Bette Salinas and husband Jim; cousins, Cheryl and Gary Holwick, J and Julianne Gaut, Cynthia and John Dudley.

Patricia Ann Boyd Fenn-October 20, 2010

Memorial services will be at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday October 30, 2010 at Central Church of Christ, 1401 S. Monroe.

Patti was born in San Angelo, Texas on November 22, 1936. She was a resident of Amarillo for 44 yrs. She taught Montessori School in the 1970’s and later worked for Santa Fe Energy in the Records department from which she retired in 1989.

She married Joseph Roscoe Fenn in August 26, 1960 and they were married for 42 yrs. She gave birth to three children and helped raise many others. Her greatest love was the church and next to that was her grandchildren. She said every decade of her life was better than the one before but nothing was as good as being a grandmother. She had a great love of dance. Even more so when it involved her grandchildren. Patti was a faithful patron of the Lone Star Ballet and Lone Star Dance Academy.

She was survived by two sons, Joe Dale Fenn of Amarillo and Hank Fenn of Mobile, Alabama. Randy Rollins of Ft. Lauderdale Florida who was considered a son by Joe and Patti. One daughter, Cissy Fenn Burch of Amarillo. Eight grandchildren: Andrew Fenn, Leslie Castenada, Marah Fenn, Bailee Burch, Tessie Fenn, Boyd Burch, Emma Fenn, True Fenn and Christopher Hull who they fondly referred to as their grandson.

Family suggests memorials be to Central Church of Christ Youth, 1401 S. Monroe, Amarillo, Texas 79101; or to Lone Star Ballet, 3218 Hobbs, Amarillo Texas 79109 .

Charline Rachel Spears – October 23, 2010

Services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church with The Reverend Clifton A. Mann and The Reverend Jo Roberts Mann officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Charline was born on June 22, 1921 in Sand Springs, OK to Charles and Rachel Stricklen. She married Francis Robert Spears, II in April of 1944. She worked as a secretary at the crisis center for TPHMR, and was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church for almost fifty years.

She is preceded in death by her husband; and sons, Francis “Pat” Robert Spears, III and Charles Dunham Spears.

Survivors include her brother, Charles Stricklen of Greensboro, N.C.; grandsons, Levi Stricklen Spears of The Colony, TX and Matthew Joseph Spears of Amarillo, TX; granddaughter, Rachael Elizabeth King and husband Andy of Canyon, TX; and four great-grandchildren, Jarek, Hannah, Ethan, and Carlie.

The family suggest memorial donations be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 1601 S. Georgia, Amarillo, TX 79102.
