Jesus "Jessie" Ramos

FRIONA - Jesus "Jessie" Ramos, 83, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, in Hereford.

Rosary was said at 7 p.m. Sunday, January 11, 2009 in St. Teresa's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, January 12, 2009 in the church with the Rev. George William as celebrant. Burial was in Friona Cemetery by Blackwell Funeral Home of Friona.

Mr. Ramos was a longtime Friona resident and a custom farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Norberta Garcia Ramos; six sons, David, Joel and Ernesto Ramos of Friona, Ramon Ramos of Clovis, N.M., Mike Ramos of Hereford and Ray Ramos of Remington, Ind.; six daughters, Santos Machado, Frances Delapaz and Erminia Guerra, all of Friona, Olga Arias of Mexico, Melinda Jacquez of Spearman, and Olga Baltzel of O'Fallon, Ill.; two sisters, Gloria Salinas of Pomona, Calif., and Teresa Perez of Amarillo; three brothers, Antonio Ramos of Pomona, Ramon Ramos of Friona and Eucebio Ramos Jr. of Clovis; 30 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren.

George Lee Young

SPEARMAN - George Lee Young, 71, died on Sunday, January 11, 2009.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church with Rev. Jeff Hinshaw officiating.

George was born on August 8, 1937 in Abilene, Texas. He married Virginia Bartz on September 3, 1971 in Spearman.

George moved to Spearman in 1970 to work at the radio station. He owned and operated KRDF from 1993-2007. He was a member of Hansford Lodge #1040 A.M.&F.M. He was also a member of the Lions Club and Shriners and was a Boy Scout Master.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Sedgweick.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Young of Spearman; two daughters, Debbie Lou Bowman of Amarillo and Cindy Lee Fox of Houston; two brothers, Teddy Fitzpatrick, Jr. and Dean Vernon Fitzpatrick; two sisters, Vista Loudan Burch and Anna Bertha Copeland, both of Lubbock; two granddaughters, Amanda Bowman of Amarillo and Cha'tae Avila of Spearman; two grandsons, Justin Bowman and Michael Avila, both of Spearman; and many friends.

The family requests memorials be to the Boy Scouts of America, Adobe Walls Council, 301 W. 12th St., Spearman TX 79081.

Arthur J. Harmon

AMARILLO - Arthur J. Harmon, 83, of Amarillo died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009.

Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 6969 E. Interstate 40, with the Rev. Jerry Davey officiating and military honors by DAV Chapter 26. Entombment was in Memorial Park Cemetery East Mausoleum.

Arthur J. Harmon, 83, of Amarillo, beloved brother, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 11, 2009. He was a member of Paramount Baptist Church.

He was born May 29, 1925, in Chillicothe, to Arthur M. and Dollie Mae Harmon. He graduated from Roaring Springs High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Forces in August 1943, served in the European theater and achieved the rank of staff sergeant before being discharged in 1945. He married Yvonna Simpson in 1947.

He worked for the Texas Veterans Affairs Commission in Lubbock, Houston, Waco and Amarillo for 23 years, retiring in 1990.

Immediate survivors include three sisters, Juanita Cooper and Vee Gordon and husband Harold, all of Matador, and Lee Bradford and husband Van of Gruver; three brothers, Lonnie Harmon of Hedley, Gordon Harmon and wife Freddie of Mansfield and Billy Harmon and wife Martha of Lubbock; 11 nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends, including Don and Rose Mary Rhoden of Amarillo.

Dimple Jetton

SPEARMAN - Dimple Peek Jetton, 100, of Spearman died Friday, December 5, 2008 in Hansford Manor at Spearman, Texas.

Services were at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Goree, Texas with Rev. Genoa Goad, former pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the Goree Cemetery under the direction of McCauley-Smith Funeral Home of Munday, Texas.

Mrs. Jetton, the daughter of Jeff and Alice Peek, was born April 17, 1908 in Goree. Dimple and Sam B. Jetton were married on May 25, 1946 in Munday, Texas. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1983. Dimple moved from Goree to Spearman in 1985.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by four brothers, Virgil Peek, Clarence Peek, Herbert Peek and John T. Peek and two sisters, Effie Peek Neighbours and Ora Peek Lane.

Survivors include one daughter, Lynell Williams and husband Burt of Spearman, Texas; two grandchildren: Lynette Williams Babcock of Mineral Wells, Texas and Kevin Williams and wife Meghan of Goodwell, Oklahoma; and one great granddaughter Kaitlyn Babcock of Mineral Wells, Texas and several nieces and nephews.

W.W. Bill Wheeler

WHEELER - W.W. Bill Wheeler, 81, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008, in Amarillo.

Services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Stiles officiating. Burial was in Kelton Cemetery in Kelton by Wright Funeral Home.

Bill was born Aug. 31, 1927, in Shidler, Okla., to Clarence Wayne Wheeler and Retta Corrine Hunter. Bill was raised in the Spring Creek area and attended Spring Creek School. He attended Borger High School and earned a football scholarship to West Texas State, where he lettered at center and linebacker. He served in the U.S. Navy during the occupation of Japan and was most proud of his service aboard the USS Atlanta. He married Billye Gibbins in Clovis, N.M., on Dec. 31, 1949.

Bill and Billye started careers in education, teaching and coaching. They taught in Borger, Kelton, Spearman and Wheeler. Bill and Billye bought a farm at Kelton and ranched together, they also started Wheeler Irrigation and were successful in the sales of irrigation equipment for several years. In his later years, Bill was active in Amarillo VFW Post No. 1475, where he treasured the friendship of his fellow members.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Billye Jean, in 1989; and a sister, Sue Clark in 2003.

Survivors include a son, Wayne Wheeler of Sayre, Okla.; a daughter, Kim Wheeler of Kelton; five grandchildren, Lori Rarden, Kristie Brummer, J.W. Ray, Will Wheeler and Elissa Johnston; 10 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Carmen Ford of Amarillo; and two sisters, Myrtle Laflin of Pampa and Barbara Austin of Eutopia.

The family suggests memorials be to Travel Fund, Khiva Shrine Temple, P.O. Box 328, Amarillo, TX 79105.

Zeva Allard

SPEARMAN - Zeva Allard, 92, of Amarillo died Friday, December 26, 2008, in Spearman.

A family memorial service will be at a later date. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Zeva was born Feb. 12, 1916, in Ardmore, Okla. She married E. Clyde on Sept. 6, 1931.

She lived at English Field in Amarillo until 1933, when they moved to northwest Arkansas, living there until moving back to Amarillo in 1948.

Zeva was a beautician for several years until becoming an insurance agent in Oklahoma City, working there for most of the rest of her working life. She moved back to Amarillo in 1999.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Jose McNeill.

Survivors include two daughters, Clydeen Ramsey and husband Jesse of Morse and Josie Wiltzius and John Sharp of Smithville; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Hansford Manor, 707 Roland St., Spearman, TX 79081; or a favorite charity.

Edna Marie Williams Walker

GRUVER - Edna Marie Williams Walker, 87, died Wednesday, December 31, 2008.

Services were at 2 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2009 in Church of Christ with Gaylord Cook officiating. Arrangements were by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.

Mrs. Walker was born Jan. 9, 1921, in Hatchel. She married Ross Walker in 1985 in Gruver. She was a retired cashier/bookkeeper for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and a Church Of Christ member. She and Ross enjoyed many winters at Buchanan Dam in their RV.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Loretta Florene Will and Nelma Sowell; and two brothers, S.D. Williams and Charles Williams.

Survivors include her husband, Ross Walker; two daughters, Geanette Jones of Amarillo and Alicia Dee Shaeffer of Hurst; three stepdaughters, Sandra Kay Preston of Owasso, Okla., Martha Anspaugh of Gruver and Judy Clemans of Guymon, Okla.; a special nephew, Allen Walker of Gruver; 21 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Ollie Leota Giblin

CELINA - Ollie Leota Giblin, 89, died Friday, December 26, 2008.

Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008 in First Baptist Church in Morse with the Rev. Mike Martin of Shamrock officiating. Burial will be in Lieb Cemetery near Morse by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Mrs. Giblin was born Feb. 6, 1919, in Ochiltree, and was a lifelong resident of the Morse Community. Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Dobbs of Allen and Robbie Reid of Morse; two brothers; four sisters; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Alzheimers Association, 1400 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106; or Morse First Baptist Church Piano Fund, P.O. Box 54, Morse, TX 79062.

Effie L. Branch

BORGER - Effie L. Branch, 95, died Thursday, January 1, 2009, in Spearman.

Graveside services were at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2009 in Westlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Rhonda Greenwood of Stinnett United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements were by Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Branch was born May 23, 1913, in Livingston, Tenn. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Malinowski of Stinnett; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Maxine "Mama Max" Cline
GRUVER - Maxine "Mama Max" Cline, 77, died Sunday, January 4, 2009.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in Gruver Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
Maxine was born Feb. 23, 1931, in Shattuck, Okla., to Darrel and Merle Cooper. She was raised and lived in Gruver her whole life.
As a child, she idolized her beloved Daddy and followed him everywhere. Ranching and farming continued to be an important part of her life.
She was a part of Gruver High School girls basketball team, and the only girl-team to make it to the state finals when she was in high school.
Maxine married Orson "Hootie" Cline on Feb. 23, 1948. Hootie preceded her in death on April 10, 1991.
Maxine was an avid bridge player and loved to travel and go on cruises. She enjoyed decorating and redecorating her home.
One of her favorite things to do was shop! And, she could out shop anyone!
But the love of her life was her family. She was happiest when she was with her girls and their families.
Maxine loved her four grandsons with all of her heart and rejoiced in each and every accomplishment. Her grandsons adored their Mama Max.
She was welcomed at heaven's gate by those that preceded her, and we rejoice that she is now reunited with those she loved so fiercely. While those of us that are left are filled with a great void, we know that Maxine is finally free of pain and suffering and is safely enfolded in Jesus, and sitting beside her is her little Dane Max and husband Hootie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hootie; and much loved grandson, Dane Max Blakenship. When Dane Max died, a part of Maxine's light died with him.
Survivors include two daughters, Dana Cline and Dean Barnes of Yukon, Okla., and Denise Hledik and husband Jim of Oklahoma City; three grandsons, Dace Blankenship, Chad Hledik and Cory Hledik; her special companion, Roy Byrd of Gruver; a sister-in-law, Dorthy Cline of Dallas; and dear friends, Gwen McClain and Jim and Verna Lee Shirley.

Brad Delozier
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - Brad Delozier, 33, of OKC, beloved husband, father and son, left this earth to be with our Lord, Wednesday evening December 24, 2008 following a brief illness.
Services were held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the Sooner East Church of Christ on SE 29th, between Post & Westminster in MWC, in Oklahoma City, OK.
He was a network administrator at the Workers Compensation Court and taught IT classes at ITT-Tech a real delight it was for him to teach. He recently received his MBA at the University of Phoenix. Brad exemplified what a Christian man should be, humble, selfless, patient and loving. He touched many people's lives and will be very much missed.
Brad was an amazing loving, patient husband and my best friend. Words cannot express how much a void will be left in my life, forever he has my heart.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy; children, Michael and Jonathon Delozier, Jason, Maleah and Brandon Johnson; father, Terry Delozier; mother, Candi Goebel and husband Jerry; brothers, Landon, and Devin Delozier; dear friend and cousin, Shan Oquin; his much loved grandmother, June Wright; and many other family members and friends.

Kathy Jean McDade
SKELLYTOWN - Kathy Jean McDade, 57, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009.
Services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2009 in Memory Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. Rob Lackey and the Rev. Richard Bartel, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery by Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
Mrs. McDade was born Dec. 11, 1951, in Amarillo and was a 1970 graduate of Amarillo High School. She attended Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, earning a degree in psychology.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Kathy joined the U.S. Navy on Sept. 23, 1977, and served until Sept. 22, 1982, being honorably discharged with the rank of E5.
After serving her country, she returned to the Panhandle to be closer to her family. She lived for her family and will be greatly missed.
Kathy is with our Lord and endures no more pain.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Billie J. Parker; and brother-in-law, Mark Parker.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Nelda and LoVell Kennard of Skellytown; her father and stepmother, Walter and Grace McDade of Spearman; a sister, Lee Tice and husband Mike of Skellytown; two brothers, Roger Kennard of Kansas and Eddie Rodgers of Spearman; a niece, Kala Tice of Skellytown; four nephews, Kory Tice and wife Kara and Mikah Tice, all of Skellytown, and Mark Parker and David Parker, both of New Braunfels; a great-niece, Breklyn Tice of Skellytown; and a host of uncles, aunts and cousins.
The family suggests memorials be to American Cancer Society, in care of Gerry Caylor, 2130 Charles, Pampa, TX 79065; or City of Pampa Animal Control, Fund 12, P.O. Box 2499, Pampa, TX 79066-2499.

Wilma Reese
RUSTBURG, VA - Wilma Reese, 82, of Rustburg, VA died Tuesday, December 23, 2008.
Wilma was born April 27, 1926, in Anadarko, OK, a daughter of the late Floyd William Mahaffey and Bertha Elizabeth Cyrus Mahaffey. She was a member of Clearview Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children, James Latham and Brenda of Amarillo, Texas, Jerry Latham and Sandy of Camdenton, Missouri, Pat Brown and Wes of Spearman, Texas, Peggy Lankford and Kevin of Rustburg; grandchildren, Jennifer Woodcock, Karla Dawson, Angela Shepherd, Amanda Latham, Daniel Hopkins, Tommy Brown, Josh Brown, Robert Watson, Jr., Jessica Lankford, Libby Lankford and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an aunt, Inez Bennett and a brother, Kenneth Mahaffey.
A funeral service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008 in Clearview Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Greene officiating. Interment will follow in Clearview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Jack Hoke Hart
Jack Hoke Hart, 85, of Amarillo died Sunday, January 4, 2009.
Graveside services were at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 7, 2009, at the Gruver Cemetery, Gruver, Texas by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, Spearman, Texas. Reverend Dale Moreland officiated.
Jack was born on October 30, 1923 on his grandfather's ranch near Morse, Texas. Jack graduated from Gruver High School in 1940 and enrolled in Iowa State University where he was a member of the Reserve Officers Training Corps. In 1943, as an advanced ROTC cadet, he was called into active duty with the Army. He requested a transfer to the U.S. Army Air Corps and received training as a reconnaissance pilot in the twin fuselage, twin-engine, single seat P-38 that was fitted with cameras rather than guns. Jack finished first in his class and was immediately sent overseas to Okinawa. During a rest stop at New Guinea on his way to Okinawa, Jack received word that his older brother Walter, who was a major with the Fifth Cavalry, was killed on the island of Luzon in the Philippines. Jack flew three combat missions from Okinawa. The first two reconnaissance missions were over Tokyo and Yokohama. His third combat mission at the age of 21 years was the first reconnaissance flight over Nagasaki on August 10, 1945, the day after the atomic bomb was dropped over the city.
After serving a year in Japan with the Occupational Army, Jack returned to Hansford County where he began his lifetime occupation of farming and ranching. Later he and several partners built and operated the Hansford Feedyard located northeast of Spearman that is now Spearman Cattle Feeders. He also owned and operated the Palo Duro Grain Elevators in Gruver for many years. He served as vice president of the Gruver ISD Board of Trustees in the late 50's and early 60's. Jack always regretted not completing his college education so he enrolled in West Texas State University in Canyon and received his college degree in 1979 at the age of 56. He later attended Western State University Law School in San Diego, California. In 1985 he joined with others to become an organizing director of First National Bank, Spearman, and served as a director for many years. Jack was a member of the Southwest Cattle Raisers Association and the Texas Grain and Feed Association.
Jack was a member of The Church at Quail Creek.
Jack married Bobbie A. Sanders on August 20, 1979. Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mary Ann Johnson; a brother, Walter; and a granddaughter Jennifer Hart Tidwell.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie, of the home; a sister, Dorothy Hudson of Gruver; a brother Don, and his wife Donna of Mesa Arizona; four children, Jerry and wife Christine Hart of Morse; Ginger and husband Bill Pittman of Spearman; Kitty and husband Frank Edwards of Spearman; Doneta and husband Jon Skavlan of Plano; eleven grandchildren, Michael Hart, Janyth Davis, Bill Jack and Sally Pittman, Tonya, Trudy, and Haden Hart, Jocelyn Miller, Jentry Williams, Travis and Anna Skavlan and nine great grandchildren. The family appreciates the love and care of three special care givers: Carol Fernandez, Sonia Flores, and Nora Mauricio.

Charles L. 'Chuck' Harruff

DALHART - Charles L. "Chuck" Harruff, 91, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2008 in Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Patterson, minister of the church, officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery by Horizon Funeral Home.

Charles Louis Harruff was born Aug. 3, 1917, in Columbus, Ohio, to Charles W. and Alma Ruetech Harruff. Chuck was raised in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and graduated from Reynoldsburg High School. He then attended Ohio State University before joining the U.S. Army Air Forces in 1942. He flew bombers in the European theater during World War II. When stationed at the air base in Dalhart, he met Mary Helen Johnson. On July 2, 1944, they were married.

After the war, they returned to Ohio, where Chuck graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in dairy technology. In 1947, they moved back to the Dalhart area, where he ranched for many years.

Chuck was an active member of Central United Methodist Church and served on the church board. Mr. Harruff was an involved in the Dalhart community and had served on the Dalhart Independent School board, the Agricultural Stabilization committee, as well as being a 4-H leader, and was the first winner of the 4-H Silver Spur Award. On Oct. 18, 2005, he married Billie Heiskell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Helen, on Sept. 13, 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Billie Harruff; two sons, Lynn Harruff of Dalhart and Kirk Harruff of Abilene; a daughter, Karen Babitzke of Spearman; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His extended family includes Keith Heiskell, Sue Ballinger and Staunton Whiteaker.

The family suggests memorials be to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
