Charlie Alexander "C.A." Davis Jr.

GRUVER - Charlie Alexander (C.A.) Davis, Jr., passed away Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the Hansford Hospice in Spearman, Texas.

The son of Thelma (Kegans) and Charlie Alexander Davis, he was born April 8, 1930 in Gruver, Texas. C.A. was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Air Force from 1951-1954. He was united in marriage to Geraldine O'Brien on December 31, 1953 in St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada. C.A. returned with his bride to Hansford County where he was involved in farming and ranching. He recently joined Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Spearman, Texas.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Gerry Davis of the home; his daughter, Barbara Stavlo and husband Paul; three sons, Bob Davis and wife, Cathy; Buster Davis and wife, Krista; all of Gruver; and Wayne Davis and wife, Brenda of Canyon, Texas. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, Charlie and Sammie Stavlo; Nathan Kirk; Michaela, Blaise, Luke, and Jobi Davis; Monte, Halee and Logan Davis; Joshua and Ben Shields and Whitney Brown; and great grandchildren, Alexander Davis, Andrew Shields, Ashton and Catch Brown; and more friends than you can shake a stick at.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two children, Christine Ann and John Brien; two sisters, Rosalie Cator and Vera May (Tubby) Hays; and two brothers, Warren Davis and Jim Davis.

Graveside services were Saturday afternoon, May 5th at 2:00 p.m. at the Gruver Cemetery with Father Jose Gomez officiating. Services were under the care of Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon.

The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, memorial may be given to Hansford Hospice, 707 South Roland, Spearman, TX 79081.

Lenora Rivers Brown Stavlo

DUMAS - Lenora Rivers Brown Stavlo, 96, of Dumas, died Thursday, April 26, 2007.

Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007 in First Baptist Church of Sunray with Philip Hilton, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas.

Lenora graduated from West Texas State Teachers College in 1929 and taught grades 1-4 at the Childress school, west of Tulia, until she married Arthur B. Stavlo on June 8, 1932, in Stratford. He preceded her in death in 1983. She was a devout Christian and a member of First Baptist Church of Sunray, where she served as director of the junior department for 19 years. She will be missed dearly by all those who knew her.

Survivors include a son, Leon Stavlo of Sunray; a daughter, Sally Hill of Sunray; a granddaughter, LeaAnne Harris of Sunray; a great-grandson, Philip Haydn Harris of Sunray; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law.

The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church of Sunray, P.O. Box 550 Sunray, TX 79086 or the Britain Memorial Library Fund. 118 E. Fifth, Sunray, TX 79086.

Willie Lee Smith – July 2, 2001

Willie Lee Smith, 89, formerly of Dumas died on Saturday, July 2, 2011, in Ruston, Louisiana.

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Rev. Brad Foster, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Dumas officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. in Northlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Dumas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

She was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma on December 27, 1921. She married Duel Smith on May 6, 1940 in Oklahoma. She previously lived in Dumas for 55 years before moving to Ruston, LA four years ago.

Willie as always the “Rock of the Family” always there when they needed her and loved them dearly.

God was always her strength. She loved her church and the many friendships she established while there.

Willie loved to make quilts for her family and also loved making hand made cross bookmarks. A special thanks to Faye Edwards and Calvary Baptist Church in Dumas for the many cards and letters she sent to Willie while she lived in Louisiana.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1977.

Survivors include her children Glenda Odom and husband Joe of Riverton, Wyoming; Ed and wife Judy Smith of Amarillo, Texas; Ronnie and wife Marsha Smith of Talequah, Oklahoma; Barbara and husband Bill Moss of Ruston, Louisiana; Frankie and wife Nancy Smith of Phoenix, Arizona; and Jackie and husband Rian Smith of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; brothers, Willard Brittain of Oklahoma City; Bobby Brittain and Eldon Brittain; sisters Billy Fitzgerald, Sue Moore and Shirley Weaver, all of Holdenville, OK; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and her special little dog Chi-Chi.

The family would like to express their thanks for all of the prayers, cards and calls. Thanks to the doctor and staff at Northeast Louisiana Medical Center for their care of Willie and their concern for the family.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and will be at 3617 Eddy in Amarillo.

Julie Smith – July 2, 2011

Julie Smith, 76, of Amarillo, died Saturday, July 2, 2011.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. in Munday, Texas.

Julie was born on November 26, 1934 at the Josselet family homestead in Haskell County, Texas to Joel William and Juanita Josselet Massey. Julie married H. Wayne Smith on August 26, 1956 in Munday, Texas. She was a graduate of McMurry University and taught school for 7 years in the Irving Independent School District.

In 1968, the Smith’s moved to Amarillo where Julie was an active member of the community and schools attended by her children. She was a member of the Junior League, P.E.O., and the Amarillo Medical Auxiliary. She taught and attended many Bible study groups for many years.

Julie was preceded in death by her father.

Julie (Jewel) found her greatest joy in serving others and providing every effort to make everyone around her feel special. She knew how to make a perfect stranger feel welcome and always lived with a servant’s heart. Indeed, she lived a life of service to others. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her mother, Juanita Massey of Munday; daughter, Tracy Smith of Amarillo; son, Chris Smith and wife Susan of Colleyville, TX; two granddaughters, Sydney Smith and Sophie Smith of Colleyville, TX; and a brother, John Massey and wife Judy of Amarillo; and H. Wayne Smith of Amarillo.

Wayne Richardson – June 30, 2011

Wayne Richardson, 79, of Vega died on Thursday, June 30, 2011.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Vega with Don Allred, officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery at Vega. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Vega.

Wayne was born on September 9, 1931 in Allison, Texas to Cruce and Edna Richardson. He owned and operated Richardson Seed from 1955 to 1992. He married Carolyn Slutz on December 5, 1992. Wayne served on the Vega School Board for twenty-nine years and had served as Mayor. He also served as Past President for the Texas Seed Trade Association. Wayne was an avid golfer and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Vega.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Mike Richardson and one grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Richardson of Vega; two sons, Jack Richardson and wife Paula of Amarillo and Larry Richardson and wife Monica of Vega; a daughter, Shirley Sutton and husband Scott of Amarillo; a brother, Don Richardson of Vega; a sister, JoAnne Cook of Vega; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church at Vega, Texas 79092.

Viewing will be from noon to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at the Boxwell Brothers at Vega.

Arthur William “Art” Harney – July 1, 2011

Arthur William “Art” Harney, servant of God, husband, father, grandfather, and friend died Friday, July 1, 2011. He was 61.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. A viewing will precede the funeral at 3 pm. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.

Born on September 23, 1949 in Fort Monmouth, NJ, Art was raised in Florida. He joined the Army in July 1975, where he met and married Joslyn Harney in 1977. They made their home in Amarillo, Texas before moving to Arkansas in 2004.

A boat builder and carpenter by trade, Art’s career and passion was children. He puppeteered and led Children’s Church and worked as a Family-Teacher for Presbyterian Children’s Home from 1992 to 2004.

Art continued in the same profession with Methodist Children’s Home following a move to Arkansas in 2004. Most recently, he was dedicated to developing a Day Treatment Program with wife, Joslyn, in Magnolia, Arkansas. This was truly a labor of love for Art. He was employed as Lead Behavioral Instructor at the Magale Therapeutic Day Treatment Program in Magnolia until the time of his death.

Art spent much of his life caring for troubled kids and some would say that he related so well to kids because he was a big kid himself. He found wonder in life’s simple pleasures, including fishing, camping, and joyful times with his family.

Survivors include wife Joslyn, three sons, David Harney of Dallas, Seth Harney of Amarillo, and Mario Garcia of Magnolia; two daughter-in-laws, Leah Harney and Angela Harney; and two grandchildren, William and Evelyn Harney. He is survived by three brothers, Thomas Harney, Vincent Harney, & Robert Harney, all of Florida. Art will be missed by all of his family, friends, and the dozens of children whose lives have been changed by his devotion.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Presbyterian Home for Children, 3400 South Bowie, Amarillo, TX 79109.

Tommy Lee Buckley – June 30, 2011

Tommy Lee Buckley, 64, of Amariillo, died Thursday, June 30, 2011.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Washington Avenue Christian Church.

Tommy was born on March 24, 1947 in Childress, Texas to William L. and Lois Buckley.

Tommy graduated from Grand Prairie High School where he was a member of the National Honor Society, editor-in-chief of the school annual and was a member of the tennis team. After graduation from high school he attended Texas Tech University. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie. For several years he owned and operated mens clothing businesses in Amarillo and Grand Prairie.

Everyone who knew him remembers that he was a hard working, generous husband, dad, granddad, son and brother. His favorite times were playing with his grandchildren and playing golf. He had a loving and giving spirit that shown through in everyone’s life that he touched. He worked with a tireless dedication to benefit the lives of others.

The family is grateful for the love and support of all of Tommy’s friends around the country.

He was preceded in death by his father, William L. Buckley.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Buckley. His mother Lois Brenneman of Arlington, TX. Sisters, Carolyn Williams & Jan Suggs of Arlington, TX. Daughter, Tammy Karr of Amarillo, TX. Son, David Karr of Houston, Tx. Daughter, Stephanie Maupin of Bushland, TX; also daughters, J.J., Jordan, & Emily, all of Colorado. 10 grandchildren include Kolby, Kelsi, Brooklyn, Brody, Cale, Quinn, Wylee, Millie and two grandchildren from Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.

Carl Robert Green – July 2, 2011

Carl Robert Green, 76, of Amarillo, died Saturday, July 2, 2011.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mr. Green was born on March 4, 1935 in Pampa, Texas to Lottis and Bob Green. He attended Amarillo High School. After graduation he served his country during the Korean conflict for 3 years.

He married Dora Whiteley on May 16, 1948 in Amarillo.

He worked as a superintendant for Jack C. Thomas and Sons Painting Contractors. Carl loved the outdoors and spending time at the lake and with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Dora Green, of the home; his son, Robert Green and wife Melynda of Canton, TX; his daughter, Dena Seright, of Irving, TX; four grandchildren, Lance Green of Amarillo, TX; Matthew Green of Canton, TX; Danielle Seright of Irving, TX; and Dawn Seright of Irving, TX.

Juan Jose Calvo – June 29, 2011

Juan Jose Calvo beloved father, son, brother and husband passed away June 29, 2011 at Baylor Regional Medical Center in Plano, Texas. He was 41 years old.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd with Dr. G. A. Roach officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.

Juan was born on February 18, 1970 in Lubbock, Texas to Sofia Rodriguez and Juan G. Calvo.

He attended Tascosa High School and was a graduate of Amarillo College. He worked for NWTH from 2001 – 2006. He was currently working as a RN for Methodist McKinney.

He was loved by all and will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Anita Calvo; his daughter, Nicole Calvo and his son, Dominic Tate, all of McKinney; his father, Juan and wife Elsa of Amarillo; mother, Sofia Rodriguez of Lubbock; two sisters, Dolores Diaz and husband Michael and Mary Gomez and husband Jason, all of Amarillo; two brothers Daniel Calvo and Miguel Calvo; and step-sister, Elizabeth Pacheco, all of Amarillo; and several nieces and nephews.

Judith Gail Lawson – July 1, 2011

Judith Gail Ridley Lawson, 76, of Amarillo, died Friday, July 1, 2011.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd with Len Ridley, nephew and pastor of Chihuahua Bible Chapel, Vequita, New Mexico, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Lawson was born and raised in Clovis, New Mexico on June 16, 1935. She resided in Amarillo, Texas.

Judith was a homemaker, substitute teacher, volunteer for the Department of Human Services and adored children and serving others. Although having only one child, was a mother to many, an unending love to her near and extended family. She always had a car ride, bed and a meal for those who needed safe haven. She was a volunteer to the shut-in and elderly. She opened her loving home to families and teens in need. She volunteered and headed up a teen program at the YMCA in the 70's, Teen Scene. She was a loving and caring daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, wife, teacher, mentor and friend.

Though Judith’s long time illness made her appear frail, she possessed strength, perseverance, the ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. With her courage she led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. She enjoyed cooking, especially if it meant a meal for others. Always giving, always serving. Her greatest love, her granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Jack Lawson, of Amarillo, and her parents Wilburn and Ethel Ridley of Clovis, NM.

She is survived by daughter, Lori Scott and son-in-law Robert Scott of Amarillo; beloved Granddaughters Rachel and Maggie Scott of Amarillo; loving sister to Doug Ridley of Belen NM, Paul Ridley of Belen NM and Catherine Hallaxs of Battle Creek Michigan. Judith also leaves behind many wonderful caregivers that provided love and support that enhanced her quality of life.

With Judith’s passing we remind others that her life is one to be celebrated, Through her teachings about life, we were all changed.

Jim Nesbitt-June 30, 2011

Jim Nesbitt, 58, of Amarillo died on Thursday, June 30, 2011.

Services will be at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at the Central Church of Christ Chapel with Iman Crawford, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Jim was born on August 22, 1952 in Amarillo TX to Bill and Doris Nesbitt. He graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1970 and later attended Amarillo College. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. He married Elaine Burgett on August 20, 1976. Jim was an instrument foreman at the Nichols Station of Xcel Energy for twenty-seven years and was a member of Central Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Nesbitt in 2008, his sisters-in-law, Lisa Burgett and Jana Slaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Nesbitt; a son, Bryan James Nesbitt; a daughter, Courtnay Michelle Nesbitt and her daughter, Raeneigh, all of Amarillo; his mother, Doris Nesbitt of Amarillo; a sister, Nanette Nesbitt Moshier and husband, Mike, of Fairfield CA; a brother, Randy Nesbitt and wife, Charise, of Amarillo; his mother-in-law, Millie Burgett of Amarillo; his grandmother, Ruby Gooch of Floydada; a sister-in-law, Michelle Cook and husband, KC, of Amarillo; two brothers-in-law, Jeff Burgett and wife, Brenda of Amarillo and Bobby Slaughter; numerous nieces, nephews and lots of friends.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Christian Relief Fund, P.O. Box 19670, Amarillo, TX 79114.
