Kathryn “Kathy” Ann Stanley – August 6, 2011

Brought into this world September 22, 1937 in Paducah, Texas to Carey Mae and Robert Roy Hill. Departed August 6, 2011 in Amarillo, Texas.

Kathy was an accountant for most of her life and a former CPA for the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce. She lived in various parts of the United States at interesting times in history.

Possessing a unique sense of humour, Kathy often kept those close to her laughing. She was an avid football fan and took the sport very seriously. She was a true humanitarian, patriot and democrat. She believed in charity, peace, equality and hope for the human race.

She was preceded in death by her son, James Hatfield in 2007 and her grandson, Jason Massey in June of 2011. Survivors include her daughter, Tomme Stanley, husband, Arthur Ureche, and grand-dog, Truman of Los Angeles; daughter Bylie and husband David Dewey of Amarillo; adopted daughter, Jannifer Randall and fiance, Ken Smith of Amarillo; one grandson, Justin Massey and wife Machelle of Amarillo.
A private service was held on Tuesday, August 9th. Those wishing to honour Kathy can make a donation in her name to the ASPCA. Family can be contacted at P.O. Box 57694, Sherman Oaks, CA 91413.

Dorothy Lee Geraldine Holcomb – August 17, 2011

Dorothy Lee Geraldine Holcomb, 92, formerly of Amarillo, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 22, 2011 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Bret McCasland officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mrs. Holcomb was born on September 9, 1918 in Denver, CO to Grady and Cecil Burks. She grew up in Amarillo graduating from Amarillo High School. She married F.W. Holcomb, who preceded her in death. Mrs. Holcomb was a member of the San Jacinto Church of Christ.

She is survived by sons, Jerry Bryant and wife Jane, and Alan Lyons and wife Trisha, all of Amarillo; daughter, Judy Bural of Muskogee, OK; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Randi Jo Cecil – August 16, 2011

Randi Jo Cecil, 59, of Dumas, died Tuesday, August 16, 2011 in Amarillo.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 20, 2011 at The Church at Quail Creek with Dr. Stan Coffee and Rev. Dale Moreland officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Ms. Cecil was born on February 4, 1952 in Lubbock, Texas to Joyce and Marshall Slough. She had been a resident of Dumas for 34 years. She had worked as a dental assistant.

She is survived by a son Jason Cecil and wife Lana of Cedar Park, TX; a daughter, Erin Norris and husband Steven of Amarillo; her mother, Joyce Slough of Goodland, KS; two brothers, Fred Slough and wife Pat of Kansas City, Missouri and Gary Slough and wife Diana of Goodland, KS; a sister, Marshal Slough and partner Jill of Redlands, CA; and two grandchildren, Alyssa Cecil and Keltan Norris.

Kay Stubbs McMennamy – August 16, 2011

Kay Stubbs McMennamy passed away on August 16, 2011.

Celebration of Life Services will be at 4:00 p.m. August 19, 2011 at Boxwell Brothers Chapel, 2800 Paramount, Amarillo, TX 79109.

Sandra Kay Stubbs was born in 1941 to parents William Foreman “Bill” Stubbs and Alice Townsend Stubbs in Amarillo, Texas. In 1946 the Stubbs moved to the family homestead located 5 miles north of Alanreed. Kay and older brother Bob enjoyed all the McClellan Creek farm had to offer. A young tomboy, Kay preferred horses to dolls and was a true cowgirl, participating in barrel racing and breakaway roping. After graduating McLean High School in 1959, Kay used her beauty and grace to become an airline hostess and later owned “Kay’s Boutique” in Borger for many years before moving to Amarillo and becoming a real estate agent.

In 1985 she married her best friend and true love, Jerry McMennamy, and recently celebrated 30 wonderful years together. She and Jerry traveled extensively and made new friends at every stop. Avid polka dancers, she and Jerry attended polka dances all over the country.

In 1990 Jerry and Kay moved back to the family homestead in Alanreed and became members of McLean Methodist Church family. They also enjoyed being members of the dance committee at the McLean Country Club.

“Kato”, as she was known to her family, taught all of us how very important it is to love one another. A Cheerful spirit & wonderful lady, she led by example and her radiant smile will be missed by all who knew her.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents and beloved Aunt Beryl, as well as her son Wade and her brother Robert Lee Stubbs.

Kay is survived by her husband Jerry McMennamy of Amarillo; a niece, Lee Erin Koehler and children of Canyon; nephews, Eric Scott Stubbs of Dallas and Robert Theron Stubbs and children of Corpus Christi; stepchildren Lynn McMennamy and wife Teresa; Carrie Johnson and husband Tommy of Amarillo; and Crissie Wisdom and husband Kirk of Houston; 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and special sister in law Emma Pechtel Stubbs & family.

In lieu of flowers, Kay requests donations to the Khiva Children’s Travel Fund in care of Khiva Temple, P.O. Box 328, Amarillo TX 79105 or to BSA hospice or the charity of your choice.

Mary Stack Ware – August 16, 2011

Mary Stack Ware, 89, philanthropist and longtime civic leader died Tuesday, August 16, 2011.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Polk Street United Methodist Church with Dr. W. Winfred Moore, Pastor Emeritus, First Baptist Church and Dr. Burt Palmer, Senior Pastor, officiating. Private burial will be at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mary was born in Van Buren, Arkansas. Her family moved to Amarillo, where she attended public school, graduating from Amarillo High School in 1939. She was elected the first Queen of Amarillo High School, and graduated from Amarillo College. She then attended the University of Texas and was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta.

She was very proud of being elected to the Amarillo High School Sandie Hall of Fame in 2007 and being named the 2006 Amarillo College Distinguished Alumna.

Her philanthropy activities were centered in Amarillo College, where she endowed a Scholarship in her name, BSA Hospital, and Park Central where the Mary Ware Clock Tower is named for her.

Mary served on the Potter-Randall Citizens Committee that did the original planning of the Medical Center. She also served as a Board Member of the United Way, Kid’s Inc., The Art Alliance, Amarillo Symphony Guild, the Amarillo Art Center, Texas Panhandle Mental Health Mental Retardation for many years and the Amarillo Day Nursery.

Mary was very active in the Junior League, Junior Women’s Club and in the Amarillo Garden Center before it became the Amarillo Botanical Gardens. She was the first President of the Amarillo Banker’s Wives Association.

She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and the Susanna Wesley Sunday School class.

Mary is survived by her husband of 67 years, Tol Ware; and sons, Richard, and Bill and his wife, Paige, all of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Anne-Clayton Ware of Dallas, Benj Ware, Pat Ware, William Ware, W. Tol Ware and Savannah Ware Singleton, all of Amarillo; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Virginia Thornton of Amarillo.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a favorite charity.

Chet Kearns – August 14, 2011

Chet Kearns, 80, of Amarillo, died Sunday, August 14, 2011.

Memorial services will be at 4:00 p.m., Thursday, August 18, 2011 at Palisades Baptist Church with Larry Richardson officiating. Military rites are by DAV Chapter 26. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mr. Kearns was born on March 21, 1931 in Amarillo, TX to Clarence and Mary Johnson Kearns. He served his country for twenty years and one day as a mechanic in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Kearns worked all of his life as a mechanic. He retired from Scottco then opened and operated DNE Produce for fifteen years. He loved going to auctions and watching wrestling. When he was young he had the opportunity to carry Gorgeous George’s wrestling robe. He married Joyce Mason on October 21, 1985 in Las Vegas, NV.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Kearns, of the home; daughters, Linda Morrison and husband Stan, Frances Hibbs and husband Mike, and Mary Finley and husband Coy, all of Amarillo, TX; son, William Kearns and wife Shelly, also of Amarillo, TX; step daughter, Tammy Butcher and husband Christopher of New York; son, Terry Tompkins and wife Kathy of La Junta, CO; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren.

Ruben Delfino “R.D.” Escoto – August 12, 2011

Ruben Delfino “R.D.” Escoto, 59, of Amarillo, died Friday, August 12, 2011.

Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 15, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mass will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Jose Gomez officiating. Burial will be Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Ruben was born on March 22, 1952 in Amarillo, TX to Adolfo and Ruby Escoto. He loved Tejano music and was a disc jockey and a musician with Victor Diaz and the Sun Kings. He was well respected and had many friends.

Survivors include son, Nickolas Escoto and girlfriend Renee Rivas, of Amarillo, TX; daughter, Leslie Maria Hudson and husband Marvin “Rock” of San Diego, CA; father and step-mother, Adolfo Escoto and Micaela of Amarillo; mother, Ruby and husband, Urbano Saucedo of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Gloria Castillo of Midland, TX, Ramona Delgado of Ennis, TX, Marian Saldana of Amarillo, TX and Dianna E. Cox of Magnolia, TX; half-sister, Teresa Harper of Austin, TX; brothers, John Escoto of North Richland Hills, TX, and Gabe Escoto of Amarillo, TX; uncle, Jesse Escoto of Amarillo, TX;, TX; grandchildren, Lorenzo Escoto, Jordan Hudson and Aleesha Ruggles; half-son, Anthony Escoto of Amarillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill Stafford – August 26, 2011

Bill Stafford, 90, of Amarillo, died Friday, August 26, 2011. Graveside Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Bill was born on February 7, 1921 to Jessie and Etta Stafford. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and had worked in construction.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Juanita Stafford; son, Terry Stafford; a sister; three brothers; and a grandchild, Earl Snead Jr.

He is survived by two daughters, Linda Williams and husband Bill of Amarillo, Judy Snead of Hendersonville, Tennessee; a sister, Alma Lee Snook and husband Luther of Dumas; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Calvin Richard Honea Sr. – August 24, 2011

Calvin Richard Honea Sr., 82, of Amarillo, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2011.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, August 29, 2011 in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Jerry Davey officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery with military rites by DAV Chapter 26.

Mr. Honea was born Aug. 2, 1929, in Leary, Texas, to Ewell and Flora Honea. He had worked as a used car dealer for more than 50 years and served in the U.S. Army.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Honea.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty Honea; two sons, Ronald C. Honea and wife Nadine and Calvin R. Honea Jr. and wife Alice, all of Amarillo; eight grandchildren, Sara, Katie, Annah, Sandy, Melissa, Christina, Kim and Lisa; and several great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105.

Evangeline Lindblom Meyers – August 24, 2011

Evangeline Lindblom Meyers, 89, of Amarillo died on Wednesday, August 24, 2011.

Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Reverend Marvin James officiating. Private burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Meyers was born on September 10, 1921 in Anita, Iowa to Oscar and Flossie Lindblom. She was raised in Anita and married Clyde H. Meyers on July 4, 1942.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde and son, Jack Meyers.

Survivors include a daughter, Judith Ann Meyers of Amarillo; a daughter-in-law, Jane Meyers of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Sara Fuller and Eric Meyers and one great grandson, Zealand Michael Fuller.

Johnnie S. Campbell Perry Vogt-August 23, 2011

Johnnie D. Campbell Perry Vogt, 90, of Amarillo passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2011.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at the First Christian Church with Regi Fowler officiating. Private burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Military Rites will be by DAV Chapter 26. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Johnnie was born on April 21, 1921 in White Deer, Texas to Fred and Tuny Campbell. She attended school at West Texas State Teachers College, now known as West Texas A&M University. After teaching in El Paso, Texas, she enlisted and served in the Army from 1943 to 1945. While stationed in Illinois, she was one of a group of eight trained as physical therapy aides for the Army, after which she assisted in an Army general hospital working with WWII wounded.

While living in Denver, Colorado in 1946, she taught a basic course in finance at Lowry Air Force Base. When that assignment ended, she moved to San Bernardino, California to teach school. She returned to Amarillo where she ran a nursery school out of her home. She then became the director of the nursery and nursery school at Northwest Texas Hospital.

Her teaching career in Amarillo began in 1956 as a special education teacher. Subsequently, she taught English at Dalhart Junior High School. She returned to Amarillo and taught special education at Bowie Junior High School and then at Caprock High School where she taught life skills and preparation for entering the work force in special education classes. She retired in 1981 and was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and the Lambda Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, an international honorary organization of women educators dedicated to educational excellence, altruism, and world understanding.

She was active in her church, First Christian Church of Amarillo, teaching Sunday school to both adult singles and couples for over 20 years. She also sang with the Senior Happy Timers and was part of the bell choir.

She married Leo Vogt in November, 1985. While living in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, the Vogts helps start an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity helping to build six houses there.

She is preceded in death by brothers, Melvin and Herbert Campbell, and sisters, Juanita Campbell Skelton, Mary Beth Campbell Gordon, Burnell Campbell Judkins and Helen Campbell.

She is survived by four daughters and their spouses/partners: Trudi Terry and Irene Dickerman of Ashburn, Virginia, Patti Marcoe and David Gyles of Fort Collins, Colorado, Sandy and Steve Williams of Amarillo, and Linda and Reggie Black of Fort Collins, Colorado; five granddaughters, Randi Mack and husband Kevin of Annandale, Virginia, Sandi Terry of Orange, Virginia, Jennifer Ehrhart of Amarillo, Erin Kujawa Black and husband Alan of Loveland, Colorado, and Sarah Williams of Amarillo; six great grandchildren, Riley and Campbell Kujawa Black of Loveland, Colorado, Tucker and Sydney Mack of Annandale, Virginia, and Lauren and Megan Ehrhart of Amarillo; a nephew, Joe Frank Skelton and wife Deanna of Bellvue, Colorado; nieces, Nancy Judkins and Peggy Gallagher, both of Fort Collins, Colorado, Anita Wyrick and husband Bill of Smithville, Virginia, and Mary Ann Benning and husband Carl of Dallas, Texas.

The family wishes to thank all those who gave Johnnie such loving care at the BSA Hospice in Amarillo and suggests memorials be made to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo Texas 79105, or Martha’s Home, 1204 West 18th Ave., Amarillo, Texas 79102, or to First Christian Church Children’s Ministry, 3001 Wolflin Ave., Amarillo, Texas 79109.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home.

Matilde Gutierrez-August 25, 2011

Matilde Gutierrez, 78, of Amarillo, died on Thursday, August 25, 2011.

Services will be at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, August 29, 2011 at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Jeff Messer officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mrs. Gutierrez was born on March 4, 1933 in Willard, New Mexico to Felipe Contreras and Rosaura Lueras. She lived in Plainview most of her life.

She is preceded in death by husband, Gilbert Gutierrez; and son, Benito Marroquin.

Survivors include her daughters, Ruth Garcia, Rockwall, TX, Rita Saldivar of Lubbock, TX, Rafaela “Lita” Lopez of Plainview, TX, Lydia Davila of Whitney, TX, and Rosalinda Villalon of Amarillo, TX; sons, Rudy Marroquin of Austin, TX, Robert Marroquin and Eddie “Cookie” Marroquin, both of Plainview, TX; sisters, Mary Garcia of Willard, NM, Lori Gonzales of Estancia, NM, Ramona Floyd of Edgewood, NM, Elena Mason of Q. Cove, B.C., Canada, and Isabel Quillin of Albuquerque, NM; brothers, Benito Contreras of San Leandro, California, Eddie Ortiz of Albuquerque, NM, Rito Ortiz of Willard, NM, Bernie Lueras of Willard, NM and Gilbert Miradal of Gallop, NM; twenty-two grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
