Phineas Dean Franks – September 12, 2011

Phineas Dean Franks, 56, of Shamrock, died Monday, September 12, 2011 in Amarillo.

An informal memorial service will be held at the Cross in Groom, Texas at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2011. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Dean was born on February 6, 1956 to J.P. Franks and Maxa M. Stansell. Dean attended Sanford-Fritch High School. He proudly served his country in the Army. He was a welder by trade. Dean loved hunting and fishing as much as possible.

He is survived by his daughter, Shawna Franks; son, Richard Dean Franks; four grandchildren; mother, Maxa Price; brothers, Charles Franks, Gary Price and Chad Cole; and sister Janet Trolio.

Did we mention he liked to fish!

Isabelle J. Weatherly – September 10, 2011

Isabelle J. Weatherly made her heavenly journey to embrace her Lord and Savior. She prepared well for her joyous reunion with family, friends and God. The journey was highlighted by a thunderstorm – a heavenly celebration.

A Celebration of Isabelle’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery.

Isabelle was born in Centralia, Mo., to Ira B. and Ella F. Stark. She moved to Texas in about 1930, greeting the Dustbowl with her parents and siblings. She attended Amarillo High School, where she met her future husband, Roy Weatherly. Isabelle assisted her husband in building and operating two successful businesses in Amarillo. She wore many hats well.

Isabelle spent the twilight of her life between Amarillo and Phoenix for medical visits and relaxation. Isabelle will be greatly missed by all those around her, but is at peace with her Lord and Savior.

Isabelle was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Weatherly; a son, Dean Weatherly; a grandson, Chris Weatherly; as well as her parents and four siblings.

She is survived by one sister, Florence Shelton; two daughters, Jackie Essary and Cindy Weatherly; two sons, Bill Weatherly and Dewayne Weatherly; seven grandchildren, Shari Williams, Shelby Weatherly, Tammy Ferris, Tracy Long, Tanya Strauss, Toby Weatherly and Trevor Weatherly; nine great-grandchildren, Brennan McCown, Larissa McCown, Alec Long, Halen Long, Blake Harris, Christopher Ferris, Logan Ferris, Tyler Weatherly and T.J. Wampler; and numerous other family and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Serenity Hospice Foundation in honor of Isabelle’s great life and her giving back, always. Serenity Hospice Foundation, 7727 N. 16th Street, Ste 170, Phoenix, AZ 85020; or American Heart Association, 6605 W. I-40, Amarillo, TX 79106.

Douglas K. Burton – September 13, 2011

Douglas K. Burton, 66, of Amarillo went to meet his Lord on September 13, 2011.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 17, 2011 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Milton Jones officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Doug was born March 6, 1945 in Plainview, TX to Ed and Irene Burton. Doug lived in Plainview, Borger, California and Amarillo where he graduated from Amarillo High School in 1963. He joined the Army after he graduated and served as a Sergeant in infantry in Germany until 1966. He had numerous stories about his time there. He loved to learn and took numerous classes at A.C. and W.T.

He worked at Maywood, the zinc smelter and had a 35 year career at Pantex. He retired from Pantex in 2005. After retirement Doug and Vickey became business owners in Amway. He loved mentoring and helping others in the business. He joined the Amarillo Downtown Lions Club and took such pride at being a member. Anytime they needed help with a special project he would volunteer to help. He had a special place in his heart for the Lions Club Children’s Camp. He talked about the kids that were disabled and could never go to another camp and how excited they were to get to go to this camp.

The family thanks all our friends for their love, prayers and support. Our thanks goes to Pam and Beverly of Encompass Home Health that took care of him in the short time he was at home in the last few months. We also thank everyone at Triumph Hospital that took special care of Doug and the family.

Doug is survived by his wife, Vickey of 43 years; a daughter, Kelly Crowley and husband Chris, their children, Sean and Patrick; a son, Kyle Burton and wife Becky, their children, Logan, Berkleigh and Baileigh; his sister, Maurine Reidle and husband, Mike of Midland, her daughter, LaVon Carter and husband, Daniel, their children Wesleigh and Daniel.

The family request that contributions be to the Texas Lions Camp, P.O. Box 2792, Amarillo, TX 79105.

Estella Elizabeth Morris – September 13, 2011

Estella Elizabeth Morris, 89, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, September 13, 2011 in Amarillo. A graveside service will be Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Llano Cemetery with Rev. Charles Jones, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Estella was born August 11, 1922 in Austin County, Texas, the fourth child and only daughter of Basil Jon and Ella Garnett. The family moved to Hansford County, Texas, in 1931 and Estella graduated from Spearman High School in 1940, as Valedictorian of her class. She received a scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin, and while attending the University she met Tom Morris, a law student. They were married June 14, 1943, in the middle of World War II, while he was serving as a Naval aviator. She continued her education at the University and graduated in 1945, with highest honors, receiving a B.S. degree in home economics and nutrition. She was a member of the Omicron Nu Honor Society.

When World War II was over and Tom returned to the University to complete his law degree, Estella worked as a laboratory technician for the Texas Health Department for two years, and when she and Tom moved to Amarillo in 1949, she worked as a laboratory technician for the Amarillo City Health Department until her first child was born in 1952. Thereafter, her primary focus was on her family but she continued her interest in education and was an active member of the American Association of University Women, serving one term as President and hosting the State Convention in Amarillo. She did volunteer work at the Amarillo Museum of Art for nearly twenty years, was a member of Docents and was a Chairman of that group for one year. She was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School while her children were in school.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Stanley Garnett, Wesley Garnett, and Howard Garnett and their wives .

Her survivors include her husband, Tom Morris, a daughter, Linda Willard and husband David, and a daughter, Vicki Fineran and husband Martin; five grandchildren, Sheena Fineran , Mallorie Benjamin, Skye Fineran, Autumn Fineran and Auroelle Fineran; three nephews, Howard Stanley Garnett, Wesley Garnett, Jr., and Jon Michael Garnett; one niece, Lynn Riley, and numerous grandnephews and nieces. On Tom’s side of the family, she is survived by brothers-in-law, Minter I. (Jack) Morris, Ennis R. (Tut) Morris, and sisters-in-law, Alice Willis and Lois Morris; nephews- in -law, Jimmy Morris, Dean Morris, Keith Morris and Thomas Willis; nieces-in-law, Elizabeth Roof, Lynette Morris, Patti Noel, Alice Link, Deborah Escobar and Leigh Ann Roma.

Estella loved her friends, too numerous to name, but she wanted to express her appreciation to some special friends, Lynn and Irvin Wall, Betty Sterquell, Gwen Patterson, Enid Bates and Allegra Bush, and to the staffs at Bivins Memorial Nursing Home, Childer’s Place and BSA Hospice who cared for her in her last years of declining health.

The family requests memorials be to your favorite charity.

Katharine “Katie” Billman Anthony – September 9, 2011

Katharine “Katie” Billman Anthony, age 73, of Amarillo died on Monday September 19, 2011.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday September 24, 2011 at 11:00 am in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Don Weemes, pastor of Victory Church officiating. Burial will be at Llano Cemetery following the service.

Katie was born February 18, 1938 in Evanston, Illinois to Katharine and Charles Billman. She had 1 brother (Chuck) 3 years her senior. Due to the second World War the Billmans moved from Evanston to Dallas Texas, then to Chicago and finally settled in Dayton, Ohio, her fathers hometown.

Due to a long illness, Katie spent much of her early childhood drawing and painting. Encouraged by her 4th grade teacher, she began her formal art training at the age of 9 by attending the Dayton Art Institute for children. Soon she became known for her artistic ability and was filling request from teachers and other students for portraits of their pets.

In High School she was more occupied with studying and socializing than art. She was secretary of the student counsel, co- editor of the yearbook, and a member of the education honor society. Her A average was rewarded with a academic scholarship to Denison University in Granville, Ohio where she majored in English Literature, and pledged Delta Delta Delta Sorority.

Upon Graduation, she married classmate and best friend William A. Anthony, from Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Baylor Medical School while she taught Senior English at Spring Branch High School. Katie and Bill started a family during his residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Robert was born May 27,1964 and Dawn June 16, 1968.

Katie and family moved to Amarillo in 1970 where she remained until her passing. While in Amarillo Katie was involved with the Junior league of Amarillo, spent many Christmas Eves with youth at Boys Ranch, volunteered with various schools helping out challenged youths, and raised her two children to adulthood. When Robert moved away from home she took that opportunity to turn his room into a new art studio, where she resumed her childhood passion of painting.

Katie Loved to paint all things in bright acrylic colors, most notably The scenes of Santa Fe and Taos. In the summer of 2010 she launched her website..Katieskats.com , a passion turned reality that featured a gallery of her paintings she had done over the years but her newest collection” The eyes have it” paintings numerous cats that she also turned into note cards that are featured on the website. Her last focus was to have her business featured in Cat Fancy Magazine, which was released the day she passed.

Katie was a season ticket holder and loved to attend plays at the Amarillo Little Theater with her Grandson, Alex, and truth be told we think he got more out of it than she did.

She was a librarian in the reference department at the downtown library for over twenty years.

Katie was preceded in death by her mother Katharine Billman, father Charles Billman, a nephew, Gary Billman.

survived By a brother Chuck Billman and his wife Pat, of Florida her son Robert Anthony, of Amarillo, daughter Dawn Burns and husband Chris of Colorado Springs, 5 grandchildren, Amber, Alex, Meagan, Sarah, and Nick , 2 Great Grandchildren, Tristan and Keagan.

Katie wore many different hats throughout her lifetime, wore them well, loved all unconditionally, and always taught by example. You will be missed, but never forgotten.

Family would ask that all memorials be directed to either Ware Living Center, 400 SW 14th St., Amarillo, TX 79101; or to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5:30pm – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 23, 2011.

Jean Whittington – September 12, 2011

Jean Whittington, 77, formerly of Amarillo, died Monday, September 12, 2011 in Houston.

Friends are cordially invited to gather with the family and share remembrances of Jean from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon on Friday, September 23, 2011 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Jean was born on the 27th of July 1934, in Amarillo, Texas, to beloved parents James Patrick Whittington and Imogene McIntire Whittington.

Jean graduated from Amarillo High School and attended Highland University in New Mexico and The University of Texas at Austin. Following a long career with Braniff Airways, Jean’s final move was to Houston, Texas, to take care of her mother. Her beloved cousins (and their families) Betty Anny Hopper, Joanne Bergman, Sue Lawrence, Patricia Payne, Kathleen Carson, Diane Mason, Fred Whittington Hagaman, and Gail Crowder succeed her.

She will also be missed by extended family members and friends, who stood by her side and provided loving care for her daily (Jim and Diane Moore and daughters, Michael and Sharon Evans and daughters, Patrick Carter, Craig Green, Debbie Bryant, Loretta Johnson, Doug and Lahoma Mack, and many others). Jean, aka “Jeanie” and “Jeanie Bug,” will be remembered mostly for her unique sense of humor and her enormously kind heart.

In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in honor of Jean may be directed to a charity of one’s choice.

Lewis Kenneth Copeland – September 18, 2011

Lewis Kenneth Copeland, 86, of Ehrhardt, South Carolina, died Sunday, September 18, 2011 in Amarillo. Services will be held at a later date at the Herndon, Brice & Sons Funeral Home in Ehrhardt, South Carolina. Burial will be at the Mount Pleasant Lutheran Cemetery. Local arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Lewis was born on October 22, 1924 in Ehrhardt, South Carolina to Lewis and Mary Copeland. He had worked in security as a police officer at the Dupont Savannah River Plant for over 35 years. He loved to raise pigs and farm.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Castleberry Copeland on December 10, 2010; and a brother, T.W. Copeland.

He is survived by a son, Fred Hammond Copeland and wife Annette of Henry, TN.; two daughters, Mary Copeland Gray of Ehrhardt, South Carolina and Kathy Wheeler and husband Scott of Amarillo; a sister, Miriam Barrineau of Andrews, South Carolina; seven grandchildren, Adam Chaimowitz, Eric Wheeler, Nikki Toulouse, Heather Wheeler, Katie Leach, Rebecca Wheeler, and Sarah Wheeler; and a great grandson, Kayden Wheeler.

The family suggests memorials be sent to Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, 1173 Mt Pleasant Rd, Ehrhardt, SC 29081-9285.

Jack L. Erikson – September 17, 2011

Jack L. Erikson, 81, of Amarillo, died September 17, 2011 at Ussery Roan State Veterans Home, Amarillo, Tx.

No services will be held. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Jack was born on June 4, 1930 in Fowler, Kansas. He was number nine of ten children born to George and Ethel Stewart Erikson. He was a member of the Air Force for 3 years and served in the Korean War. Jack worked for the Texas Department of Agriculture until his retirement.

Jack is survived by his younger brother Arlen (Joe) of Sedona, Arizona, many nieces and nephews and special friends Max and Elaine Jordan.

Roberta Cox Cooper – September 15, 2011

Roberta Cox Cooper, 65, of Amarillo, died Thursday, September 15, 2011.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 19, 2011 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Dr. G.A. Roach officiating. Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery in Canyon. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Roberta was born July 24, 1946 in Baltimore, Maryland to J. Bob and Edna Cox. In 1949 they moved to Dumas, TX to open Cox’s Jewelry Store. She attended Dumas schools. After attending Howard Payne College and Texas Tech University, she took nurses training at Dumas Memorial Hospital. Upon graduating, she was employed by Meredith and Wright Clinic. After a few years, she moved to Amarillo where she made her home. She was employed at Amarillo Urology Clinic and retired from there in 2000. She married Corky Cooper in May 1993.

Survivors include her husband, Corky Cooper of Amarillo; mother, Edna Cox of Amarillo; a son, Barton of Lubbock; and a brother, Doug Cox of Longview, TX.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Lubbock State School Chaplain’s Fund, Box 5396, Lubbock, TX; or to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, TX 79105.

Vannie Beauchamp – September 14, 2011

Vannie Beauchamp, 78, a life-long resident of Dumas, TX, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011, in Dumas with family by her side.

Rosary will be said at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 10th and Maddox, Dumas, TX on Friday, September 16, 2011 evening at 7:00 p.m. Services will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., also at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church followed by burial at Dumas Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 500 N. Maddox, Dumas, TX.

Vannie was born on September 19, 1932, in Dumas, the sixth child to J. A., Sr. and Sallie McMurry. Her six siblings include Gladys “Short” Baer, Aline Morrison, J. A. McMurry, R. O. McMurry, Sue Lewis and Doris “Dink” Neie. She graduated from Dumas High School and attended McMurry College in Abilene, TX. She married Lloyd Beauchamp, July 24, 1952, in Taos, New Mexico, and together they established their home west of Dumas. Vannie was a homemaker and a partner with Lloyd in his farming and ranching operations and continued to farm after his death.

Vannie was active in many church and community events. She enjoyed working outside in her yard; she enjoyed all sporting events, and painted in her spare time. Her coffee pot was always on and her door was always open to family, friends, and visitors.

Vannie was a wonderful Christian, her life exemplified her faith, and at her death was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Her immediate family includes her children, Joe and Penny Beauchamp of Dumas, Janet and John Drake of Oklahoma City, and Kathy and Dan McDowell of Sunray, her five grandchildren, Susan and Chris Jones, Cody and Ezzy McDowell, Jay and Hilleary Drake, Casey McDowell, and Josh and Amanda Drake, and her great grandchildren, Emily and Ty McDowell, Maggie and Colt McDowell, and Jolee and Rylee Jones. She is also survived by two sisters and their husbands, Sue and Gordon Lewis, and Doris and Durwood Neie and many other family members and friends.

The family suggest memorials be to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. 2nd St., Dumas, TX, Texas Oncology, 1000 S. Coulter, Suite 100, Amarillo, TX, or to your favorite charity.

Ruby “Juanita” McClure Sutton – September 11, 2011

Ruby “Juanita” McClure Sutton passed away on September 11th in Amarillo, Texas. She was 87 years old. Born on July 23, 1924 in Butlerville, Arkansas to Lyle and Elora McClure, she grew up in Ulm, Arkansas and moved to Little Rock and Jacksonville, Arkansas and later to Detroit, Michigan to work in munitions plants during World War II. She moved with her family to Amarillo, Texas where she worked as a hairdresser at The Carousel Beauty Salon until finally retiring in 2001. She was a hard working and fiercely independent woman who was respected and admired by everyone who knew her.

Juanita was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who was cherished by her family. She loved Jesus, her family, her country, the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, and her dog, Maggie – although not always necessarily in that order. She clipped the television sports schedule from the newspaper every morning so she did not miss any opportunities to cheer for her favorite players and teams. One of her favorite memories was winning the Arkansas State Girl’s Basketball championship during high school with her father as her coach. She was devoted to her daughters, granddaughters, brothers, sister and extended family.

Juanita is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Susan Clawitter Hixson and Jay Hixson of Paris, Arkansas, and Deborah Clawitter Hansen and Randy Hansen of Amarillo, Texas; three granddaughters, Leslie Hixson Herrington and her husband, Austin, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Marcie Hansen Bunch and her husband, Trey, of Dallas, Texas, and Lindsey Hixson of Hot Springs, Arkansas; a sister, Pate Stanphill, of Denison, Texas; two brothers, Denver McClure of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Frank McClure and his wife, Una, of Searcy, Arkansas; a sister-in-law, Betty McClure of Cedarville, Texas; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews throughout Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Tennessee. She was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Alton McClure. Memorial Services will be held at a later date at Lone Tree Cemetery in Suttgart, Arkansas, officiated by Juanita’s great-nephew, Russell Stanphill of Humboldt, Tennessee. Arrangements are being handled by Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart, Arkansas.
