David J. "Buddy" Michelson

David J. "Buddy" Michelson of Lockhart died Saturday, May 29, 2004. He was born December 25, 1927 in Gonzales to Yetta and Jacob Michelson and he graduated from Gonzales High School in 1945, and the University of Texas in 1949.

After continuing his family's involvement with Coca-Cola, a business spanning over 50 years, the Michelson family moved to Lockhart in 1978 where Buddy became president and owner of Glosserman Chevrolet, Buick and Pontiac.

In addition, Buddy was extremely active in both business and civic affairs including Advisory Director and Chairman of the Board, First Lockhart National Bank; Chairman of the Board, First National Bank of Gonzales; Chairman of the Board, Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital, President; Gonzales Rotary Club and Lockhart Kiwanis Club; Founding Member, Chisholm Trail Texas Exes Association; President, DeWitt-Gonzales-Lavaca County Texas Exes Association; a member of the Ben Hur Shrine and many other community and civic activities.

Buddy's overall dedication of service to mankind culminated in his being awarded the Most Worthy Citizen of Lockhart in 1998.

Buddy was also an avid University of Texas Longhorn fan and enjoyed the comradery of all Longhorn sporting events, especially football and basketball. He was a member of the Longhorn Foundation, a Big Wheel sponsor of the Longhorn Athletic Department and a Lifetime Member of the Texas Exes.

Buddy was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Irving Forgoston and a sister, Laurile Block.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Abbi; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffry and Shelly of Lockhart; son Jon of Chicago, Illinois; sister and brother-in-law, Samylu and Dr. Norman Rubin of Hallettsville and brother-in-law, Irvin Block of Houston. His family circle also included his in-laws, Marilyn and Michael Glosserman of Bethesda, Maryland; Debbi Glosserman of Cleveland, Ohio; Maschi and Stephen Kaplan of Elliott, Maine; Glicka and Michael Kaplan of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. at McCurdy Funeral Home with graveside services at 4 p.m. at Temple Beth-El cemetery, Austin Highway, in San Antonio. Services were officiated by Rabbi Barry Block and Rabbi Samuel Stahl of Temple Beth-El in San Antonio.

Pallbearers were Buddy's nephews: Dr. Jay Rubin, Dr. Howard Rubin, Dr. Paul Rubin, Marc Glosserman, Scott Glosserman, Jacob Kaplan and David Kaplan.

Buddy's trademark smile and concern for others radiated throughout his positive approach to life. He was blessed with a vast number of dear friends and the family would like to thank everyone for their support and prayers, especially Patsy and Pat Kirksey for going the extra mile. The family considers all of Buddy's friends and extended family as honorary pallbearers.

Francisco "Frank" Martinez

Francisco "Frank" Martinez, 83, of Gonzales went to be with his Lord on Friday, August 6, 2004. He was born October 23, 1924 in Bebe to the late Seferino and Paula Flores Martinez, Sr. He married Juanita Hernandez of March 31, 1947 in Smiley. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lulac and Holy Name Society.

Frank was a man that enjoyed the earth and being outside in God's Country. He enjoyed many years working in farming and ranching. He also worked for the city of Gonzales for over 15 years. After retiring he was employed by G.I.S.D. as a bus driver. Frank was a huge Apache fan and could often be found enjoying the Lady Apache games. He also enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes, riding through the park and traveling to Corpus Christi to enjoy the dog races. Frank was a great person that loved his family and friends. He lived a great life, one that most of us would only dream of. "We've lost a buddy and a great friend".

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Margaret and husband Dean Seitz, Tommie and husband Frank Machicek, all of Gonzales; six sons, Raymond and wife Mary Martinez of Yoakum, Louis Martinez, Arturo Martinez, Robert H. Martinez, George and wife Dalia Martinez, all of Gonzales and Carlos Martinez, of Houston; four sisters, Maria DeLeon of Pasadena, Pauline Bermea and Mary Davenport, both of Nixon and Lupe Moore of Austin; one brother, Seferino Martinez , Jr., of Gonzales; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sons, Anselmo and Francisco Martinez, Jr. and a sister, Lucia Morris.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gonzales.

Pallbearers were Frankie Martinez, Arthur Martinez, Nolan Casares, Adam Martinez, Joseph Martinez and Paul Martinez.

Memorials may be made to the Gonzales County Senior Citizens or to the American Diabetes Association.

Seydler-Hill Funeral Home of Gonzales was in charge of arrangements.

Calvin Ernest Baker

Calvin Ernest Baker, 70, of Gonzales, died Saturday, August 7, 2004. He was born September 10, 1933 in DeWitt County to the late Ernest Kyle and Bettie Pearl Seymour Baker. He was a farmer and rancher and a member of the Hochheim Baptist Church.

He helped organize the Young Farmer Chapter in Gonzales and had served as the State President of the Young Farmers Association, member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, where he had held a number of offices and he had played an active role in developing Pioneer Village.

Survivors include a number of beloved cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2004 at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmie Adams officiating. Interment will follow at the Ebenezer cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Kuck, Donnie Baker, Lanny Baker, Roger Baker, David Bird and Gary Morgan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Guadalupe Hernandez, Past and present members of the Gonzales Young Farmers, past and present members of Gonzales Future Farmers, members of the Luling Foundation, past and present ag teaches of G.I.S.D.

Memorials can be made to the Gates cemetery Association or to the Ebenezer cemetery Association.

Henry Grady Johnson, Jr.

Henry Grady Johnson, Jr., 83, died Saturday, August 7, 2004 in San Antonio. He was born January 16, 1921 in Gonzales to the late Henry Grady and Adele Askey Johnson, Sr. of Gonzales and Moulton, respectively. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, B.P.O.E., V.F.W., Hermann Sons Lodge and the American Legion. He owned and operated the Gulf Station in Gonzales for a number of years and owned and operated Little Henry's Cafe in Gonzales for a number of years.

He married Evelyn Knapp Burnett on May 27, 1950 in Gonzales.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Carol and husband Russell Mahoney of Beeville, Brenda Joyce and husband Tommy Baros of Gonzales; one son, Kenneth Knapp and wife Mary Jane Johnson of Gonzales; three sisters, Joyce Morris, Patsy Johnson, both of San Antonio and Marjorie Dell Burch of Corpus Christi; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Henry Grady Johnson III and a son-in-law, Phillip Lynn Homann.

Graveside services were held on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Hermann Sons cemetery with Rev. Dianna Whitley officiating.

Pallbearers were Nick Brown, Russell Brown, Henry Johnson, Shawn Stamport, Josh Baros, Frank "Punky" Mendez and all his friends.

Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church or to the charity of one's choice.

Robert Casarez

Robert Casarez, born December 24, 1960, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 28, 2004 at the age of 43.

His father, Cruz Casarez Sr., his brother Cruz Casarez, Jr. and step-dad, Juan Adame, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Yolanda Casarez of Kosciuscko; daughter, Krystle Gomez and husband, Brian of Grand Prairie; son, Duane and daughter, Catherine Elizabeth "Lis" of Kosciusko; grandson, Ian Gomez of Grand Prairie; mother, Marcella Adame of Duncanville; grandmother, Anita Cisneros of Stockdale; six brothers and sisters, Larry Casarez of Houston, Pam Casarez and wife Minerva of Stockdale, Olivia Lerma and husband Manny of Duncanville, Teresa Casarez of Garland, Richard Casarez and wife Gloria of Garland and Fernando Casarez and wife Aci of Rowlett.

He is also survived by 11 nieces, eight nephews, three great-nieces and five great-nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Stockdale with Jeff Berger officiating. Interment followed at the Stockdale cemetery.,

Stanford Holt Staton

Stanford Holt Staton, 79, of Houston and formerly of Gonzales, died Sunday, March 29, 2004. He was born July 19, 1924 in Gonzales County to the late Frank Laird and Ruby Holt Staton. He was a salesman and a member of the Catholic church. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was also active in the Wolf Pack, Ex-Submariners Association and The Lumber Industry.

He was married to the late Viola LeBlanc Staton.

Survivors include his former wife, Frances Staton; six daughters, Rita Irene Luedecke and husband Lynn of Del Valle, Rose Jensen and husband William of Katy, Mary Margaret Cooley and husband Jim of Magnolia, Judy Kruse and husband Ervin of Allen, Carol Payne and husband Craig of Needville and Elizabeth Thayne and husband J.D. of Dell City, Oklahoma; five sons, Tim Staton and wife, Donna, Joe Staton and wife Cindy, all of Houston, Mike Staton and wife Krystyne of Portales, New Mexico, Woody Staton and wife Tammy of Needville and Harry Staton and wife Lauren of Lockhart; numerous grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Woodrow Wilson Staton, one daughter, Ruby Ann, one grandchild and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 1, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the St. James Catholic Church with Father Martin Leopold officiating. Burial followed at the St. James cemetery.

Pallbearers were Sam, Darrell and Joseph R. Staton, Mason Staton, John, D. Thayne and Anthony Wolverton.

Honorary pallbearers were Mike, Sam, Josh, Jason and Matthew Staton, Alan Sulak, James Cooley, Jacob Cooley, Dale Luedecke and Daniel Luedecke.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Wolf Pack/Dolpinettes Scholarship Fund.

Buffington Funeral Home of Gonzales was in charge of arrangements.

Nicole and Kalandree Hunt

Nicole Hunt, 21, and Kalandree Hunt, 2, both of Gonzales were called home on Tuesday, January 27, 2004.

Nicole was born July 30, 1982 to Dennis and Esther Smith. She was married to Jonathon Eugene Hunt.

Kalandree was born November 10, 2001 to Jonathon and Nicole Hunt.

Survivors include Jonathon Hunt (husband and father); Khalil Smith (son and brother); Dennis and Esther Smith (parents and grandparents); Virgil and Lois Smith (grandparents and great-grandparents); Tiffany Rodriguez Stovall (sister and aunt); Timantha and Timtrell Stovall, (niece, nephew and cousins); Dondre Hunt (step-brother); numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and loved ones.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Gonzales Junior High New Auditorium. Rev. C.A. Roaches will officiate. Burial will follow at the Brasco cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Avery Dora, Christopher Hunt, Andrew Lackey, Robbie Tealer, Feron Smith, Fred Smith III, Charlie Smith, Scotty Upshaw, George Washington, Billy Jones and John Washington.

Memorials may be made to Khalil Smith in care of American National Bank.

Douglas Wayne Tatsch

Born December 26, 1946

Died September 6, 2010

Douglas Wayne Tatsch, 63, of Gonzales, passed away Monday, September 6, 2010, in San Antonio, TX. He was born December 26, 1946, in San Marcos, TX, to Stanley and Carlyn Schulle Tatsch.

Doug was a fun loving man that enjoyed making everyone smile. He was a very talented wood crafter and Doug used his gift of wood working in residential and commercial construction. Doug loved his family and he worked hard to provide for their interests and harder still to make everyone happy. He enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes and washers but of all things, he loved his grandchildren most of all.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Glenda Brown. He is survived by his sons, Travis Tatsch and wife Meridith of Willis, TX, Lance Tatsch and wife Natalie of Gonzales, and Chris Tatsch and fiancée Kristen Poore; sisters, Karen Brannan and husband Bobby of Austin, TX, and Debbie Buice and husband Donnie of Waco, TX; and grandchildren, Billy Tatsch, James Tatsch, Patrick Tatsch, Vivian Tatsch, Timothy Tatsch, Derrick Davis-Tatsch, Skylea Tatsch, Ashylnn Tatsch, Maggie Tatsch, and Jaydie Tatsch.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, September 11, 2010, in the First Baptist Church of Gonzales, with Rev. Steve Faulkner officiating. Interment will follow at 12:00 PM in Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale, TX. Pallbearers will be Shaun Brannan, Brian Brannan, Matt Buice, Bobby Joe Howell, Frank Fryer, Jr., and Charley Tate. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Brown, Charlie Humphries and all of Doug's beloved grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, September 10, 2010, at Seydler-Hill Funeral Home in Gonzales. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund in Gonzales.

Theresa K. Baker

Born June 9, 1928

Died September 4, 2010

Mrs. Theresa K. Baker of Gonzales passed away, Saturday, September 4, 2010, at the age 82. Mrs. Baker was born to the late William and Veda (Butler) Kruse June 9, 1928 in Mason, Texas.

Theresa graduated from Santa Rosa School of Nursing on September 14, 1948, and started her career at Warm Springs in Ottine as a Registered Nurse. On September 16, 1950 she married the love of her life, Leo J. Baker.

Mrs. Baker is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Steve Baker; one daughter, Janet McCarrell; and one sister, Bonnie Hannah.

Mrs. Baker is survived by one son, Fred Baker of Gonzales; one brother, Buddy Kruse of Uvalde; three sisters, Lola Hohn of Mason, Pearl Segars of Austin, and Helen Taylor of Fredericksburg; four grandchildren, two step grandsons, one step granddaughter, and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel in Gonzales. Rosary was held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services were held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at St. James Catholic Church in Gonzales with Rev. Paul Raaz officiating, and Interment followed at Gonzales Memorial Park cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Baker were Mike McCarrell, Jason McCarrell, Justin McCarrell, Jerry McCarrell, Stefanie Gonzales, and Tony Brom.

Clifton Kloss

Clifton Kloss, age 84, of San Antonio, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010 in San Antonio.

Clifton was born on January 21, 1926 in Lubbock to the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kloss. Clifton married Opal Wilkerson-Kloss, in Gonzales on July 16, 1949.

Clifton loved his job as a truck driver. Clifton is preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter and two brothers.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Opal Kloss; one son, Harry Kloss of Irving; two daughters, Donna Kloss of Live Oak and Janna Kloss of New Braunfels; three sisters, Lois Sutton of Gonzales, Opal Popham of Lake Hills, and JoAnn Baker of Round Rock; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Visitation was held on Wednesday, Oct. 13, from 8:30 a.m. till 9:30 a.m. at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel in Gonzales. Graveside services followed at Gonzales Memorial cemetery.
