Lottie Ann Hardin

Funeral services for Lottie Ann Hardin, 92, of Kaufman were held Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, in the Cottage Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Peavy, Rev. Joe Rosenquist and Rev. Jamie Starkes officiating. Interment followed in Kaufman cemetery under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. of Kaufman.

Mrs. Hardin was born Sept. 18, 1910, to the late Benjamin Franklin and Emma Alma “Bonnie” (Smith) Mitchell and passed away Aug. 20, 2003, in Terrell. She was a charter member of Cottage Heights Baptist Church and a member of the Rebekah Lodge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Hardin, in April 2003 and by her son, Joe Kenneth Hardin, in May 1999.

Survivors include her son, James Richard Hardin, and his wife, Joan, of Dallas; daughter Verna Ann Brazil and her husband, Merion, of Dallas; daughter-in-law Agnes Hardin of Kaufman; grandchildren Deborah Miller, Don Hardin, James Hardin Jr., Alan Gregory Hardin, Susan Wynne Bradley, Kelly Ann Lindsey, and Clinton Hardin Brazil; great grandchildren Zachary Latham, Andy Miller, Laurie Hardin, Kenneth Hardin, Sam Hardin, Jennifer Hardin, Joshua Hardin, David Allen Bradley, JoAnn Bradley, Derek Bradley, Brandon Bryant Hardin Brazil and Taylor Blain Preston Brazil; great great-grandchildren Brandon Miller and Nicholas Miller; sister Ollie Mae Benson of Kaufman; and sisters-in-law, Pauline Evans of Kaufman and Ester McGrew Hardin of San Antonio.

Pallbearers were Don Hardin, Jim Hardin, Alan Hardin, Clint Brazil, Andrew Miller, and Randy Lindsey.

Cecil Gurno

Cecil Gurno was born Dec. 15, 1935, in Mark Tree, Ark., and passed away Aug. 18, 2003, in Dallas.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gary Lynn Gurno.

Gurno is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Margarett; daughter Rose Gurno, daughter and son-in-law LeEllen DeJarnatt and husband Jeremie; two grandchildren, Kolbie and Kaleb; two sisters, Nancy Leach and Carol Schultz; as well as numerous other family members and friends.

Funeral services for Cecil were Aug. 21 at Anderson-Clayton Chapel with interment following at Long Creek cemetery in Sunnyvale.

Shirley Lee Benton

Shirley Lee Benton was born in Dallas on May 24, 1938, to Ottis and Sadie Tucker Hunsaker. Shirley passed away at her home in Ola on Aug. 21, 2003.

Shirley was raised in Dallas and moved to Kaufman where she lived for more than 30 years. She married Roland E. Benton on Dec. 14, 1955, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1990.

Shirley is survived by her son, Roland E. Benton II of Kaufman, daughters Shirlene Sutton of Gun Barrel City, Tereasa Wall of McKinney and Pamela Johnson of Kaufman; brother William Hunsaker of Lake Fork; seven grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Aug. 23, 2003, at the Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Pat Cooper officiating. Interment followed in Morrow Chapel cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman

Mary Lillian Bednar

Mary Lillian Bednar was born in Kaufman on May 12, 1932, to John and Stella Pechal Duyka. Mary passed away in a Kaufman hospital on Aug. 24, 2003.

Mary was raised in Warsaw and lived all her life there. She was a member of the Saint Ann Catholic Church of Kaufman. On Feb. 3, 1953, she married Harry Bednar in Kaufman.

Mary is survived by her husband, Harry Bednar, of Warsaw; sons Paul Bednar of Bristol, William Bednar of Warsaw, Robert Bednar of Seagoville, John Bednar of Peeltown and Steve Bednar of Warsaw; daughters Mary Hendricks of Grand Prairie, Ann Bednar Brosch of West, Teresa Shields of Crandall and Judy Bednar of Seagoville; brother John Duyka of Warsaw; sisters Betty Jurick of Dallas, Ann Jakubik of Dallas and Millie Svrcek of Dallas; 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Rosary was recited at Saint Ann Catholic Church on Monday, and Mass of Christian burial was Aug. 26 at Saint Ann Catholic Church. Interment followed in Kaufman cemetery.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.

Marla Elaine Brandenburg

Marla Elaine Brandenburg was born in Scottsville, Ky., on May 25, 1956, to Murl and Jeanetta Centers Pitchford. Marla passed away on April 27, 2003, in Kaufman County, Texas.

She was raised in Scottsville, entered the U.S. Army in 1981 and served in Korea. Marla attended Trinity Valley Community College Nursing School in Kaufman and worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Dallas.

She is survived by her son, Jeremy Brandenburg of Scurry; daughters Jennifer and Kristin Brandenburg both of Scurry; parents Murl and Jeanetta Pitchford of Scottsville, Ky.; brothers Mike Pitchford of La Vista, Neb., and Murl Pitchford Jr. of Salvisa, Ky.; sister Linda Pitchford of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a great uncle, James Murl Pitchford, and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 2, 2003, at 6 p.m. at the Kaufman Church of Christ with Mike Kellett officiating. Interment was in Crescent Hill cemetery in Scottsville, Ky.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.

Guy F. Dixson

Guy F. Dixson of Kaufman passed away May 1, 2003, in a Terrell hospital. Dixson was born to Elbert and Lucille Baker Dixson on April 9, 1935, in the Peeltown Community in Kaufman County, Texas, was employed 10 years with Gardner-Denver and was self-employed as a welder for many years.

He married Billie Coulson on April 6, 1956. She preceded him in death on Sept. 21, 2001.

Dixson is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Harland and Susan Dixson of Denton and Chris and Brenda Dixson of Kaufman; his daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Eddie Smith of Kaufman and Cindi and Marshall Graham of Louisiana; one brother, Glenn Dixson of Corsicana; nine grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held in the Chapel of Goggans Funeral Home in Terrell at 2 p.m. May 5, 2003, with Rev. Billy Martin officiating. Interment followed at Oakland memorial park in Terrell.

Michael Lee Gilliam (Mike)

Michael Lee Gilliam (Mike), age 34 of Royse City, Texas, passed away April 27, 2003. He was born Oct. 24, 1968, in Dallas, Texas, to Floyd Lee and Frances (Robinson) Evans.

Gilliam is survived by his wife, Brandi Gilliam, son Aidan and daughter Olivia, all of Royse City, Texas; father Don Gilliam of Wills Point, Texas; mother Frances Williams and husband Jack of Garland, Texas; grandparents Lloyd and Christine Gilliam of Wills Point, Texas; biological father Floyd Lee Evans and wife Montie of Scurry, Texas; brothers Steven Gilliam and wife Devan, Richard Neely and Floyd Lee Evans Jr.; sisters Dreamalee Psutka and husband David and Sherry Bennett and husband Todd; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 1, 2003, at First Family Church, 10715 Garland Road, Dallas, with Pastor Michael Moono officiating.

Interment was in Rest Haven Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Gilliam Children’s Trust Fund, c/o American National Bank, 202 E. Main Street, Royse City, Texas 75189.

Robert Earl Pinkerton

Robert Earl Pinkerton was born in Alliance, Ohio, on March 11, 1945, to Robert and Georgia Seidner Pinkerton. Robert passed away at his home in Kaufman, Texas, on May 1, 2003.

He was raised in Alliance and lived all across the country. Robert married Sandra Hazelton on Nov. 29, 1997, in DeSoto. He moved to Kaufman in 1999.

Robert is survived by his wife, Sandra Pinkerton of Kaufman; sons Robert Pinkerton of Sebring, Ohio, and David Pinkerton of Dallas, Texas; daughter Robin Harper of West Virginia; mother Georgia Shean of Kensington, Ohio; brother Chuck Pinkerton of Alliance, Ohio; sisters Peggy Cannon of Las Vegas, Nev., Jane Foster of Alliance, Ohio, and Barb Monter of Kensington, Ohio; and five grandchildren.

No services are scheduled.

M. L. (Doc) Risinger

M. L. (Doc) Risinger, DVM, 68, passed away Sept. 25, 2003, at his home in Terrell after a brief illness.

He was born on Nov. 12, 1934, in Bryan, Texas, where he attended public schools, graduated from Texas A&M; University, and opened his first practice.

Dr. Risinger graduated from Texas A&M; School of Veterinary Medicine in 1959. He practiced three years in Bryan, 15 years in Kaufman and the last 26 years in Terrell. Since 1987 he and his son, Casey, have jointly practiced veterinary medicine at Risinger Veterinary Hospital in Terrell.

He passed his success in life and business to his two sons by emphasizing to them, “Just do the right thing.”

Dr. Risinger was owner and manager of Terrell Livestock Commission from 1982 until 1993. He served on the LSHSRA Board, serving one year as president, as well as the Board of the Texas High School Rodeo Association.

Dr. Risinger was appointed to the Texas Board of Health by Governor Bill Clements and ser-ved three years, 12 years on the Terrell ISD School Board, six of those as president, served as a trustee on the Trinity Valley Community College board, currently as president, and as a member of the Trinity Valley Community College Foundation formed to award scholarships to TVCC students. He served on the board of directors at Heritage Bank as vice president until the time of his death.

One board member expressed his wish that all shareholders knew how he worked to take care of their investments. Other business executives have expressed their appreciation and admiration for his Christian role model.

He was selected as Kaufman County Outstanding Cattleman in 1993. He enjoyed buying and raising good livestock. When accepting his award he expressed that the best stock he raised was his sons Charlie and Casey.

His unwavering honesty was just one of the qualities that led his colleagues to choose him as Texas Outstanding Food Animal Practitioner in 1997. He was selected honorary Chapter Farmer from several FFA chapters in Kaufman County. He actively promoted support for Terrell FFA and 4-H youth at the Kaufman County Junior Live-stock annual sale.

Dr. Risinger was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Terrell for over 40 years and also served as trustee. He served several times as chairman of deacons and chaired and served on numerous committees.

He greatly enjoyed cooking and serving breakfast at the monthly Men’s Prayer Breakfast. His keen interest and love for George Truett Seminary at Baylor University and the strong Christian principles the seminary promotes prompted him to actively support the scholarship fund established from the Friends of First Baptist Church, Terrell.

Dr. Risinger was preceded in death by his father, B.L. Risinger, of Bryan and sister Louise Martin.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marie; sons Charlie Risinger, MD and wife Dena, Casey Risinger, DVM and wife Phyllis; grandchildren Kelly, Rebekah, Cody, Rachel, Mitt, Marty, Casey Dean and Court; mother Maude Risinger; sister Virginia White; nieces and nephews Mike Martin and wife Melissa, George Martin and wife Debbie, Scott White and wife Marina, Pat Gibson and husband Bill and Molly Martin.

Up to the time of his death, he was actively engaged in farming and ranching with his sons. He loved the land and the Lord.

Services were held Sept. 27, 2003, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Hudnall of Austin, former pastor and friend of 46 years, Rev. B.F. Risinger of Corsicana, cousin of Doc, and Rev. Ernie McCoulskey, pastor of the First Baptist Church assisted officiating. Interment followed at College Mound cemetery.

The family requests that memorials be made to: The George Truett Seminary (Friends of First Baptist Church of Terrell Scholarship Fund) Baylor Uni-versity, P.O. Box 97126, Waco, Texas 76798 or TVCC Foun-dation-Scholarship Fund, 100 Cardinal Drive, Athens, Texas 75751. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Anderson-Clayton Bros. Funeral Home, Terrell.

Mike Kelley

Mike Kelley, 64, passed away at his residence in Wills Point on Sept. 23, 2003.

He was born June 22, 1939, in Missouri. He was a licensed plumber.

Graveside services were held Sept. 26 at Rose Hill cemetery in Kaufman County, with Nathan Holmes officiating.

Kelley is survived by wife Lizzie Turner; sons Joseph Carl Kelley of Missouri, Robin Kelley of Missouri, Colby Kelley of Seven Points, Clayton Kelley of Kaufman and Michael A. Kelley of Sunnyale; step-sons Jerry Cantrell of Indiana and James Turner of Wills Point; step-daughters Lizzie Middour of Kaufman and Mary Turner of Wills Point; brothers Bill Kelley and Paul Kelley, both of Missouri; and sisters Aldeen of Tennessee and Suzie of Washington.

Arrangements were under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Seven Points, Texas.

Mr. James L. “Bubba” Thompson

Mr. James L. “Bubba” Thompson, 62, of 2470 FM 2727, Kaufman, passed away Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at 7:30 a.m. in St. Louis, Mo., after a long battle with illness.

He was born Dec. 23, 1940, in La Porte, Ind., to Daniel and Florence Thompson and has lived in Kaufman since 1995.

Mr. Thompson was employed by Severn Trent Services as an Environmental Water Tester.

Jim was an Avid Musician who played keyboards with “Two Lane Highway Band.” He was a member of the Musicians Union of South Bend, Ind.

Jim enjoyed camping, fishing and riding horses with his wife Pamela”Koda” Thompson and communicating with all his online friends from all over the world.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Pamela “Koda” Sieglinger Thompson, whom he has known since 1976 and married on Nov. 30, 1996.

He was preceded in death by parents, one brother, Thomas Thompson, and one granddaughter, Grace Miller.

The Memorial Services will be held Oct. 4, 2003, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Kaufman, 302 S. Washington.

All friends are invited to join in this special remembrance service and contribute any writings or speak if moved to do so.

Deanna Osborne Taylor

Deanna Osborne Taylor was born in Brooks County, Texas, on Nov. 9, 1939, to Homer and Maggie Maurine Wheat Osborne. Deanna passed away in Dallas on Sept. 28, 2003.

She was raised in Houma, La., and moved to the Carrollton and Farmers Branch area in 1961. Deanna worked for Southwestern Bell for 30 years and retired Jan. 1, 1991.

She moved to Kaufman in 1991 where she was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church and a chaplin in the jail ministries.

Deanna is survived by her daughter, Carol Meador and her husband, Charlie, of Kaufman; brothers Homer Osborne of Dallas and Paul “Jack” Osborne of San Diego; grandchildren Charlie Meador, Melissa Meador and Blake Meador; great-grandson Kane Johnson; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Oct. 1, 2003, at Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darren Harvey officiating. Interment followed in Restland Memorial Park.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.
