Mary Frances Adams
Mary Frances Adams, 79, a homemaker, passed away Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, in Ft. Worth.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Burial followed in Laurel Land Memorial Park of Ft. Worth.
Mary was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Burleson and UMW Lamplighters Group. She was preceded in death by her husband William G. Adams and son, Terry Lee Adams.
She is survived by son, William G. Adams and wife, Sheila; daughter, Rosemary Cashion and husband John W.; sisters, Alice Smith, Aline Duke, Mille Leath and Etta Babovec; brother, Ed Vacula; grandchildren, Julie Rohleder, Terry W. Cashion, Amy Cashion, Jennifer R. Adams and Brian R. Adams; great grandchildren, Hayley and Caitlyn Rohleder.

Georgia Elizabeth Carpenter
Georgia Elizabeth Carpenter was born in Ector, Okla. on Oct. 25, 1924, to John and Lucille Green Benton. She passed away in Kaufman on Jan. 12, 2003.
Georgia was raised in Oklahoma and later moved to Lubbock. She moved to Scurry in 1944 and worked for Cooley’s Grocery in Kaufman for 30 years. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Scurry. On April 21, 1944, Georgia married Buford Carpenter. Her husband Buford preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 1968, and daughter Robbie Kovar also preceded her in death on May 23, 2001.
Georgia is survived by son, Buford Carpenter Jr. of Warsaw; daughters, Billie Waits of Warsaw, Mary Hatcher of Mabank and Lindy Isbell of Forney; brothers, Ray Benton of Virginia and Ed Benton of Oklahoma; 9 grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at the Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Doc Hatcher officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Olive cemetery in Scurry. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman. .

Willie Ray Patton
Willie Ray Patton of Kaufman passed away in Kaufman on Jan. 13, 2003. Ray was born in Mesquite on March 23, 1912, to Willie and Lillie Cox Patton. He was raised in Kaufman County and lived most of his life there.
Ray owned and operated Patton General Merchandise Store in Gastonia for over 30 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church Kaufman and the Odd Fellow Lodge. Ray served as a director of the Kaufman County Electric Co-Op for 47 years and was president of the Board for 11 years. Ray married Fern Moore on Jan. 1, 1934. He was preceded in death by his wife Fern.
Ray is survived by his son, Willie Ray Patton Jr. of Kemp; daughters, Patsy Watson of Kaufman and Rita Fern Webster of Kaufman; grandchildren, Warren Ray Patton and Monica Lynn Corker; great grandchildren, Ray Patton, Brandon Patton and Jeffrey Armstrong; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003, at the Parker-Ashworth funeral Home Chapel with Rev. D.G. Council officiating. Interment followed in Kaufman cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman. .

Louis Vavra
Louis Vavra was born in Scurry, Texas, on Feb. 26, 1924, to Frank and Lillie Supak Vavra. Louis passed away in a Dallas hospital on Jan. 11, 2003.
Louis was raised in Scurry and attended Parvin School. He later moved to the farm and worked for Titus for 25 years, retiring in 1986. Louis was a member of the St. Ann Catholic Church in Kaufman. On Nov. 5, 1949, he married Bessie Kubin in Ennis. Louis was preceded in death by his brother John Vavra and sister Ann Tyl.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Vavra of Terrell; sons, Paul Vavra of Mesquite, and Louis Vavra and his wife Jo Ann of Terrell; sister, Millie Vrzalik of Terrell; grandchildren, Brooke Cantwell, Eric Cantwell, Eric Swanson and Jeremy Swanson; great grandchildren, Dillon and Amber.
Reciting of the Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home . Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Kaufman with Father Joseph A. Mehan Jr. officiating. Interment followed in Rose Hill cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman. .

Pamela Proctor Westerfeld
Memorial services will be held for Pamela Proctor Westerfeld at 2 p.m. on Jan. 18, 2003, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Dallas, 3839 West Keist Blvd.
Pam was born Sept. 6, 1938, in Littlefield, Texas. She graduated from Kaufman High School in 1956.
Pam died at her home in Desoto, Texas, on Jan. 7, 2003.

Vera Darlene Meroney
Vera Darlene Meroney of Kaufman passed away March 17, 2003, in Rowlett, Texas. She was born to Montie and Vera Dennis Besherse on Oct. 20, 1957, in Dallas.
Surviving are her mother Vera Besherse of Kaufman; sons Michael, Tony, Phillip and Chad Meroney; daughters Darla Meroney and Shana Grumbles; brothers Billy, Montie, Timmy and Donny Besherse; sisters Kathy Besherse, Debra Manning and Sherrl Albright; and other relatives and friends.
Under the direction of Goggans Funeral Home of Terrell, grave side services were held Friday, March 21, 2003, at Morrow Chapel cemetery at Ola.

Susan L. Garrett
Susan L. Garrett, a Kaufman resident since 1975 and a recent resident of Sunflower Park Nursing Home, passed away May 23, 2002.
Mrs. Garrett was born Sept. 25, 1913, in Houlka, Miss., to S.J. and Olive Elizabeth Luker. She attended high school in Dallas and was among the first graduates of Woodrow Wilson High School.
She was very active in the commercial real estate loan business and the first woman president of Dallas Mortgage Bankers. She was secretary and treasurer of M.P. Crum Company for over 30 years. She was an active member of First United Methodist of Kaufman and the Cottonwood Club of Grays Prairie.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Gilbert D. Garrett.
Garrett is survived by her daughter, Patty and son-in-law Tom Hooper of Scurry; granddaughter, Joyceanne Willis; grandson, Thomas Ray Hooper and his wife Faye, all of Borger; sister, Adele McCarty, of Weatherford; numerous nieces and nephews; and her loving companion, Julie Walker, of Kaufman.
Her great-grandsons, Brandon Hooper, Kris Willis and Jarred Hooper served as pall bearers along with her son, Tommy Hooper and Kenneth and Robert Fletcher.
Reverend John Gondol of First United Methodist of Kaufman conducted the service. Funeral services were conducted by Anderson-Clayton Bros. of Kaufman. Burial followed at Grove Hill cemetery in Dallas.

Zachary Andrew High
Zachary Andrew High was born in Terrell on Aug. 21, 1973, to Ricky and Linda Kay Baldwin High. Zachary passed away in Kaufman County on May 26, 2002.
He was raised and lived all his life in Kaufman County. Zachary was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Kay and a son, Gatton High.
Zachary is survived by his wife, Sheron Marie High of Kaufman; daughter, Gabrielle High of Kaufman; father, Ricky High of Kaufman; grandparents, A. W. and Irene Baldwin of Kaufman, and Maggie High of Kaufman; and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 29, 2002, at 2 p.m. at the Parker-Ashworth Chapel with Rev. D. G. Council and Rev. Gary Hall officiating. Interment followed in Kaufman cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman. .

Helen Ruth Hollis
Helen Ruth Hollis was born in Crandall on Feb. 5, 1922, to James and Mattie Toland Rushing. She passed away in Kaufman on May 23, 2002.
Mattie was raised around Crandall and moved to Garland in 1951 and lived there until 1995 when she moved to Kaufman. Mattie retired from Sherwin-Williams Paint Company. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crandall.
Mattie married James R. Hollis in 1938 and he preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by three brothers. Mattie is survived by her sisters, Lois Blanton of Warsaw, and Reba Jack Patton of Fort Worth; and many other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2002, at the First Baptist Church of Crandall with Rev. Tim Gresham officiating. Interment followed in Crandall cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman. www.parker-ashoworthfuneralhome.com.

Dennis Lee Lumpkin
Dennis Lee Lumpkin passed away in Dallas on May 24, 2002. Dennis was born in Tacoma, Wash., on May 23, 1951, to Odis and Ruby Young Lumpkin. Dennis was raised in Dallas and attended Dallas Schools. He worked for AT&T; for 21 years and moved to Scurry in 1992.
Dennis is survived by his parents, Odis and Ruby Lumpkin of Scurry; sons, David Alton Gillispe of Dallas, Justin Neal Lumpkin of Scurry, Casey Gene Lumpkin of Scurry, and Matthew Benjamin Lumpkin of Scurry; brother, Larry Edward Lumpkin of Austin; and one grandson.
Graveside services were held Sunday, May 26, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Forest Grove cemetery in Telephone, Texas. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman. www.parker-ashoworthfuneralhome.com.
