General Pershing Upchurch was born in Rosewood, Texas on Dec. 2, 1918, to John and Mamie Hoover Upchurch. General passed away in a Dallas hospital on Jan. 4, 2003.
General was raised in Gladewater and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After the war General moved to Rosser where he was self employed as a carpenter for 30 years. He worked for a short time for the soap factory in Rosser. On July 21, 1945, General married Nancy Davis in England.
General is survived by his wife Nancy of Rosser; sons, Stan Upchurch, Anthony Upchurch and Winston Upchurch, all of Rosser; daughter, Nannette Vick of Lancaster; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at First Baptist Church of Rosser with Rev. Todd Peavy officiating. Interment followed in Cottonwood cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman. .

Funeral services for George Humberto Ramirez, of Kaufman were at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, in the Anderson Clayton Bros. Chapel with Rev. Roberto Mendoza officiating. Interment followed in the Morrow Chapel cemetery under the direction of Anderson Clayton bros. of Kaufman.
Mr. Ramirez was born March 27, 1982, in Mexico to Humberto and Adela Ramirez Carmona and passed away Jan. 5, 2003, in Dallas.
He is survived by his wife, Delores Fuentes of Terrell; mother, Adela Ramirez of Kaufman; sister, Elizabeth Ramirez of Kaufman; brothers, Manuel Barrera, Jesse Ramirez, Ramone Ramirez, Daniel Ramirez, and Gabriel Ramirez all of Kaufman; and numerous aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

Clarence Arthur Wilson of Greenville, Texas, eldest son of Alvin and Mary Wilson, was born July 15, 1935. He passed away Dec. 25, 2002.
He was preceded in death by his father on Jan. 27, 1985.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Wilson of Greenville; son, Steven Wilson of Boston, Mass.; daughter, Susan Richard of San Antonio; mother, Mary Wilson of Kaufman; brothers, Lee Wilson of West Tawakoni and Alfred Wilson of Kaufman.
He was laid to rest Dec. 27, 2002, at Shady Grove cemetery in Campbell, Texas.
Funeral services were under the direction of Rentfro Funeral Home of Cado Mills.

J.W. Duncan
Funeral services for J.W. Duncan of Tomball were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in the Kaufman cemetery with Rev. Casey Perry officiating. Interment followed under direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. of Kaufman.
Mr. Duncan was born Oct. 22, 1916, in Gastonia, Texas, to the late James Wesley and Ethel (Land) Duncan Sr. and passed away Aug. 1, 2002, in Mansfield. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a 32nd degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his wife Jonnie Duncan, step son, Stephen Boswell, sisters, Sara Grubbs, Francis Woodruff, and Alice Adams.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, John and Pat Boswell of Spring, Texas, David and Janice Boswell of Waco, James and Susan Duncan of Bloomfield, Conn., and Paul and Jan Duncan of Arlington; 8 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; sisters, Harriet Atlee, and Ethel Land Thompson; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

James “Kirby” Benson
James “Kirby” Benson, of Scurry, passed away July 31, 2002, in Dallas. Kirby was born in Scurry on May 19, 1939, to Herbert and Norene DeMasters Benson.
Kirby was raised in Scurry and lived all his life there. He graduated from East Texas State University. He worked as an engineer for Texas Instruments for 34 years before retiring in 1994. Kirby was a faithful Christian, brother and friend. He fought a courageous battle with cancer.
Kirby was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kaufman. His parents Herbert and Norene Benson preceded him in death, and he is survived by his brother, Wayne Benson of Scurry; sister, Anita Carrell of Scurry; nieces, Jana Minton of Wylie and Jean Trollinger of Scurry; nephews, Terry Benson of Richardson and Bryan Carrell of Scurry.
Funeral services were held Friday Aug. 2, 2002, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Kaufman with Rev. Brent Gentzel and Rev. Oscar Smart officiating. Interment was in Mt. Olive cemetery in Scurry. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.

Sylvester Lollis
Funeral services for Sylvester Lollis of Kaufman, were held 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, in the Anderson Clayton Bros. Chapel with Rev. Greg Richard officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Anderson Clayton Bros. of Kaufman.
Mr. Lollis was born Oct. 27, 1937, to the late Perry and Lizzy (Acres) Lollis and passed away July 31, 2002, in Kaufman. He attended the Morning Star Church in Kaufman and was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Sherita and Jackie Council.
Survivors include his wife Pat Lollis; children, Hazel Lollis & Sam Moseley, Ira Lollis, Linda Lollis, Michelle Mooneyham, and Jimmy & Lisa Council; grandchildren, Emily Lollis, Johnny Lollis, Shaun Lollis, Aaron Barnard, Jennifer Barnard, Allen Barnard, Hannah Mooneyham, Kyler Ivey, J.C. Council, and Jamie Council; brothers and sisters, William Lollis, David Lollis, Hazel Reed, and Zona Lollis; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Oleta B. Gronewald
Funeral services for Oleta B. Gronewald, age 90, of Littlefield, Texas, were conducted July 24, 2002, at First United Church in Littlefield with the Rev. George C. Price Jr., officiating. Burial was in Littlefield Memorial Park.
Mrs. Gronewald died Monday, July 22, 2002, at Lamb Healthcare Center in Littlefield. She was born July 3, 1912, in Kaufman to Bart and Lola Reams Shehee. She married Robert Gronewald Sept. 26, 1935, in Seguin, Texas. The couple lived in Lamb County since 1946.
Mrs. Gronewald was preceded in death by three brothers, Belton, Eldon and June Shehee and two sisters, Effie Smith and Sunshine Reed. She is survived by her husband, Robert Gronewald of Littlefield; two sons, Bobby Gronewald of LaGrange and Terry Gronewald of Littlefield; daughter, Neta Richardson of Austin,; two brothers, Bill Shehee of Kemp and Reams Shehee of Boise, Idaho; 6 grandchildren, Toni Thrash, Bradley Richardson, Jan Dimmitt, Scott Gronewald, Rob Gronewald and Andrea Gronewald; 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bradley Richardson, Scott Gronewald, Rob Gronewald, Chris Thrash, Michael Dimmitt and Brandon Dimmitt.

Ricky Ray Raymond
Ricky Ray Raymond, 39, of Kaufman passed away Aug. 4, 2002, in Dallas. Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 7, at First Baptist Church in Kaufman with Rev. D.G. Council, Rev. Brent Gentzel and Mr. Travis Stodghill officiating. Interment was in Elm Grove cemetery in Mabank.
Mr. Raymond was born Sept. 20, 1962, in Dallas and was a graduate of Kaufman High School. He attended Baylor University and received his Masters degree from Texas A&M; Commerce. Mr. Raymond taught high school English at Scurry-Rosser High School for 13 years. He was a member of the Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas.
Survivors include his parents, Ray and Ann Raymond of Kaufman; brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Stephani Raymond of Kaufman; niece and nephew, Jordan and Kyle Raymond of Kaufman; grandmother, Lucile Sutton of Kaufman; aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mr. Raymond was preceded in death by his sister Patti Ann Raymond in 1988; grandparents, Edgar and Bessie Raymond and Estle Sutton.
Pallbearers were Rusty Grizzard, Mike Odom, Danny Scott, Gary Chitwood, Jason Glenwinkel and Crawford Howell.
Memorials may be made to Scurry-Rosser ISD Scholarship Fund, 10705 S. Hwy. 34, Scurry, Texas 75158.

Thomas Reed Brinkley Jr.
Thomas Reed Brinkley Jr. passed away in a local hospital on Oct. 10, 2001. Thomas was born in Oklahoma on April 23, 1931, to Thomas and Minnie Brown Brinkley. He was raised in Gainesville and grew up in that area before moving to Mesquite.
Thomas moved to Kaufman two years ago and was a member of the Abner Baptist Church. On, Nov. 5, 1955, Thomas married Dorothy Jean Parker in Gainesville and she preceded him in death on Aug. 16, 1995.
Thomas is survived by his sons: Leslie Brinkley of Idaho, Mike Brinkley of Mesquite, Chuckie Brinkley of Kaufman and Danny Brinkley and his wife, Lauren, of Kaufman; daughter: Brenda Brinkley; brother: Herman Jesse Brinkley of Gainesville; sisters: Iva Lee Sutton of Abilene and Audrey Greene of Lake Dallas; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. at Grove Hill Memorial Gardens in Dallas with Rev. Jay Barnes officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Parker-Ashworth Funeral Home of Kaufman.

William Monroe “Preacher” Cox
William Monroe “Preacher” Cox passed away in a Terrell hospital Oct. 13, 2001. Born in the Cedarvale community in Kaufman County, Texas, on March 11, 1924, he was the son of the late Henry Homer Cox and Elsie Pearl Raymond Cox. Mr. Cox lived his entire life in Kaufman County where he was engaged in farming and also worked 14 years at Titus Manufacturing in Terrell.
He was married to Annie Francis Morgan on Sept. 29, 1944, and is survived by his wife of 57 yards, Annie Cox of Elmo; his son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Paula Cox of Kaufman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Robbie and Rubin Antuna, Anna Joy and Mike Cook, all of Kaufman; two brothers, H.H. Cox of Canton and Robert A. Cox of Kaufman; two sisters, Margie Montgomery of Wills Point and Nettie Weeks of Kaufman; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his two sons, David Allan Cox and Mark Edward Cox.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, in the chapel of Goggans Funeral Home in Terrell, with Rev. D.G. Council and Rev. Jack Ferris officiating. Interment followed at the Kyser cemetery.

Julian Darby
Julian Darby, 79, of Crandall, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 13, in Dallas. Mr. Darby was born on April 22, 1922, to William and Jessie Darby in Stephenville, Texas.
Mr. Darby is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Louise Darby; children, J.T. Darby Jr. and wife Margaret, Suzanne Osborne and husband Allen, Marilyn Shanks and Kathy Mills; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Venamerle Traweek.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at Roselawn Memorial Chapel with interment to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Seagoville.

Linda Kay Thompson
Funeral services for Linda Kay Thompson, 45, of Kemp were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Anderson Clayton Bros. Funeral Home in Kemp with Revs. Greg Thomas and Jim Leach officiating. Interment followed in King cemetery.
She was born Linda Kay Starek in Fort Worth on July 1, 1956, the daughter of Jerry and Betty (Haley) Starek. She died at Mesquite Community Hospital on Monday, Oct. 8, 2001. She had lived in Kemp since 1970.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her husband, Norman Thompson or Kemp; son and daughter-in-law, Tracy and Jadiena Thompson of Kemp; daughter and son-in-law Christy and Scott Lamp of Kemp; grandchildren Taylor Thompson and Kelsey Lamb, both of Kemp; parents Jerry and Betty Starek of Kemp; brothers Dennis Starek and wife, Debbie, of Mount Vernon, Larry Starek and wife, Mary, of Kemp, Jerry Starek of Kemp, and Jamie Starek and wife, Lisa, of Kemp; grandmother, Annie Starek of Kemp; and numerous nieces, nephews, other friends and relatives.
Pallbearers were Jason Starek, Brian Starek, Greg Boyd, Jeff Bruner, Gary Haley, Johnnie Heather, Melvin Lawdermilk and Gay Irvin.

James Doyle Medlin
Funeral services for James Doyle Medlin, 52, of Combine, Texas, were held Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove cemetery in Combine under direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point.
Mr. Medlin passed away Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 2, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, the son of James Aubrey Medlin and Luella Lavoy Jones Medlin. He was raised in the Dallas area where he attended public schools as well as Eastfield College. Mr. Medlin was married to Alice Headrick in Dallas in 1971. He formerly worked for Yellow Freight Lines and was a member of the Mesquite Masonic Lodge. He was a resident of Combine, Texas, and was of Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Alice Medlin of Combine; two daughters, April Ramsey and husband Jeff of Edgewood, and Kimberly Medlin of Combine; step-father Otho Lee Boyd of Hillsboro; two grandchildren Cameron Ramsey and Brandon Ramsey, both of Edgewood.
