Josie Lynn Kidd

Josie Lynn Kidd, 81, died Tuesday, July 29,2003, at her home. Services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 1, 2003 at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Chapel in Rotan with Bro. James Brigham officiating. Burial will be in Jayton Cemetery directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born May 7, 1922 in Stonewall County, Josie was the daughter of the late Marcus E. and Ada (Shadle) Martin. She lived in Stonewall, Kent and Fisher Counties. Josie married Andrew Jack Kidd Jr. December 9, 1939 in Aspermont. She attended the First Baptist Church. Josie worked at the school cafeteria in Jayton, and sewed for the public, but her full time job was a housewife and Mom. Her husband A.J., parents, two sisters, and a son-in law, Douglas Grice preceded her in death.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Jackie and Renee Kidd of Andrews, Gayland and Rhonda Kidd of Abilene, and Terry Kidd of Palestine, five daughters and three sons-in-laws, Doris and Jimmy Simms of Stamford, Geraldene Grice of Jayton, Lynda and Gene Patterson of Liberty, IL., Charlynn and Brian Greenway of Abilene, and Reba Kidd of Fredericksburg, one sister Gladys Winters of Aspermont, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She loved crocheting, quilting, cooking, canning, fishing, and gardening, but her specialty was peach cobbler and taking up for her grandkids
The family ask that memorials be made to Hospice of the Big Country, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605

Melba Taylor

Church Service for MELBA TAYLOR, Age 82, of Morton,  Texas, was held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 28, 2003 at the First Missionary Baptist Church, Morton,  Texas with Rev. James Pope of Morton, officiating.
Burial was in the Morton Memorial Cemetery, Morton,  Texas. Melba died July 24, 2003 in Little Rock AR. She was born April 30, 1921 in Pecan Gap, Tx. She married Amos  Taylor in Morton on July 20, 1940.
Melba has lived in Morton since 1938 moving from Lubbock County. She was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Morton, the Morton Ladies Auxiliary, and was a Co-owner of the Morton Auto Parts Store and the  Taylor & Son Furniture Store.
Survivors include, 3 Sons and Daughter-In-Law, Jimmy and Dorothy  Taylor of Ralls, TX, Jerry and Cindy  Taylor of Post, TX, Kenneth and Carolyn  Taylor of Snyder, TX ; 2 Daughters and Sons-In-Law- Mary and Bill Miller of Dekalb, Tx, Betty and James McCuller of Simms, Tx; 1 Sister- Bernice Dancer of Granbury, TX; 1 Brother- J.L. Merrill of Frederick, OK.
Also survived by 24 Grandchildren. 25 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great-Grandson.
Grandsons served as Casket bearers.
The family suggest Memorials to : One’s Favorite Charity.

Bill Koon

Funeral Services for Bill W. Koon, 85, of Matador were held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday December 2, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Matador, with the Rev. Paul Stearns and R. C. Littlefield officiating. Interment was in East Mound Cemetery under the direction of Seigler Funeral Home of Matador
Mr. Koon died late Friday November 28, 2003 in Lubbock. Bill was born on Jun. 5, 1918 in Spur,  Texas, he married Alva Louise Billie Lawrence on November 29, 1942 in Matador at the Beauchamp Home. He had lived in Odessa, Stamford, Fort Worth, Dallas, and Lone Star prior to moving to Matador about 5 years ago. He was retired from the Army Reserve and was the earliest living WWII Veteran in Motley County. He had also managed Gibson Discount Store for many years, was chamber of commerce manager in several towns, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Matador.
Survivors Include: His wife: Billie Koon of Matador. One Son: Kenneth Koon of Plano,  Texas, one daughter: Karen D. Fleming of Little Rock, Arkansas, 3 grandchildren and 1 Great-grandchild.

Danny Kautz

Dickens-Graveside services for Danny Kautz were held 11:00 am, Saturday, November 29, 2003 at Dickens Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Henderson and Ben Kautz officiating. Burial was under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
He died Tuesday, November 25, 2003 in Dickens.
Mr. Kautz was born October 3, 1966 to Richard and Valentina Ramirez Kautz in Grapevine, TX. He graduated from Patton Springs High School in 1984. He married Luvinia Sutton. Mr. Kautz served for several years on the Dickens Fire Department. He also worked for the city of Dickens before going to work at Rinkers in Roaring Springs.
He was preceded in death by his father in 2001.
He is survived by his mother, one son; Jacob, one daughter; Dahlia, a stepson; Peter Dickinson, four brothers; Richard Kautz Jr., Bobby and Ben, all of Dickens and Sammy, of Spur; 2 sisters; Maria Kautz of Dickens and Sylvia Schmalzried of Plainview.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905 or The Disabled Veterans, National Headquarters, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH, 45250-0301.

Dale Alton Vaughn
Our beloved father, Dale Alton Vaughn, went to be with the Lord, December 22, 2003. He was born August 11, 1929 in Roaring Springs,  Texas. He was 74 years old at the time of his death.
As a young man he joined the U. S. Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1950.
After leaving the Navy he worked many different jobs, but mostly as a mechanic. His work took him to various parts of the United States. He lived in New Mexico,  Texas, Colorado, Arizona and Nevada during these years. Eventually he settled in Spur,  Texas.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Osmar and Hester Vaughn, his oldest brother James A. Vaughn, and a sister Veeda Fowler.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Dale Nelson of Palmer, Alaska, a son Burl Andrew Vaughn-Reynolds of Camano Island,  Washington, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, his youngest brother Everett Vaughn and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was laid to rest with his mother and father in Crosbyton Cemetery in Crosbyton,  Texas at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 3, 2004, with the Rev. C. L. Atkinson officiating.
Arrangements were under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.

Billie McClain

Billie McClain, 77, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2003, at an Arlington hospital.
Funeral services were Friday , December 19, 2003 at Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Arlington. Burial was at Hillcrest Garden of Memory, Hillsboro.
Billie was born May 8, 1926, in Dickens County. She had been an Arlington resident since 1957.
Billie retired from Hancock Fabric in 1983. She was a loving wife, mom, granny and great-grandmother. Billie was a member of Central Baptist Church in Hillsboro for the past 12 years. Billie was preceded in death by her husband, A.J. McClain Sr., in 2002.
She is survived son A.J. McClain Jr. and his wife Edna, of Terrell, daughters, Sharon Kay Sanders Rios, and Karen Fay Ricketts and her husband, Robert, all of Arlington, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and sister Ernestine Rogers Pierce of Lovington, N.M.

Jerry Anne Watson

Funeral services for Jerry Anne Watson, 64, of Matador were held Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004, at the First Baptist Church in Matador with Dr. C.H. Murphy and the Rev. Jack Boggs officiating. Interment will be in the East Mound Cemetery in Matador under the direction of Seigler Funeral Home of Matador.
She died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at her residence. She was born Oct. 22, 1939, in Spur,  Texas to H.V. (Bunch) and Anne Williams. She graduated from Patton Springs High School. She married James P. (Jim) Watson on July 21, 1961 in Afton,  Texas.
She is survived by her husband, Jim of Matador; two sons, Chris Watson of San Diego,  Calif. and Darren Watson of Lubbock; her sister, Tommye Keith of Dickens; and six grandchildren, Christopher, Amber, Kayla, Preston, Brooke and Skyler. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Seigler Funeral Home in Matador. The family suggests memorials to the Motley County Senior Citizens Association.

Julia Godfrey

Graveside services for Julia Godfrey, 97, of Spur were held Sunday, January 4, 2004 at the Spur Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Larry Burton officiating. Burial was under the direction of Campbell Funeral Home.
Mrs. Godfrey was born July 6, 1906 to Hugh (Jack) and Leonora McClure Luckett in Motley Co. She was a graduate of Baylor University. She married Cecil Godfrey. He preceded her in death on July 29, 1969. Mrs. Godfrey was a teacher in Roaring Springs, San Angelo and Spur. She also served as Librarian at Spur elementary. She was bookkeeper for Godrey Furniture in Spur for many years. She retired at age 70. She was a Sunday School teacher at First United Methodist Church in Spur, for many years.
She is survived by her daughter, Ann Godfrey of Humble; her granddaughter Emily Yeager of Chicago, Illinois and her father, Gary Yeager; 2 nieces; Leadell Martin of Matador and Julia Marie Matusch of Colorado; and 2 nephews, Carter and Jack M. Luckett both of Matador.

Elisabeth Ensey

On December 17, 2003, Elisabeth Powell Ensey died at the Ree-Lan Health Care Center in Lacey, WA. She was born July 25, 1920, to Judge Walter L. Powell and Aurora Archer Powell in Dickens,  Texas.
Elisabeth attended Dry Lake School and graduated from Spur High School in 1938. She attended  Texas Tech. When World War II shook the world, she put college on hold.
She married Minyard Ensey on October 12, 1941. Minyard joined the Navy. She went with him and worked at the Naval Stations from California to Rhode Island. When he was shipped out to the war zone in the Mediterranean she returned to Spur and lived with her brother and wife Archer and Virgie (Mc) Powell. Upon Minyard’s return, they owned and operated Ensey’s Drug in Odessa,  Texas.
They were active members in the Parker Heights Christian Church, the Antioch Christian Church and Odessa Country Club. Elisabeth was a Girl Scout Leader, member of the Rebeka Lodge, Odessa Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary, and Hospice Care Volunteer.
Survivors include her daughter from Lacey, WA, Sandy Hollingshead. Three grandchildren, Misty of Los Angeles, CA, Kris of Norman, OK, and Mindy of  Colo. Springs, CO and four nieces, Dorothy Wilson of Booker, TX, Nancy DeShan of McKinney, TX, Pat Hightower of Spur, TX and Jane Bridge of Afton, TX.
Elisabeth Ensey’s memorial service will be held at the Round Up Chapel in the Methodist Church, Spur,  Texas, on January 17, 2004, at 1 p.m.
The family suggest memorials be sent to Spur Ex-Student Scholarship Fund or Spur Cemetery Fund.

Janice Murray
Memorial services for Janice Murray, 76, of Lubbock were held Wednesday, November 24, 2004,
at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel with Dale Mannon officiating.
Mrs. Murray passed away Monday, November 22, 2004, in Lubbock. Alma Janice Murray was born
Feb. 2nd, 1928 in Spur,  Texas to John Kenton and Ina Pearl Boothe. Her aunt and uncle, John and
Opal Brantner, raised her and her brother, John after the death of their mother.
She graduated from Spur High School and was married to Virgil O. Murray Aug. 17th, 1946. They
moved to Lubbock,  Texas in 1951 where she was a homemaker and later assisted her husband in
his home building business. She loved and adored her children and grandchildren. They attended
Greenlawn Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her son David and husband Virgil.
She is survived by her brother, John Riley, daughter, Patricia and husband Ronnie Paulger of
Lubbock, son, Mark and wife Cindy of Carrollton,  Texas, seven grandchildren, Brent Paulger,
Brian Paulger, Michelle Paulger, Stacey Murray, Suzanne Murray, Christen Murray and Steven
Murray, and 5 great grandchildren.
Memorials to be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Imogene Long
Services for Mrs. Imogene Long, of Lubbock, were held Monday, Nov. 29, at Sweet Street Baptist
Church with Revs. Lynn Long and Steve Long and Jerry Payne officiating. Graveside services
followed at Seagraves Cemetery in Seagraves. Arrangements were under the personal care of
 White Funeral Home, of Tahoka.
Mrs. Long was born May 19, 1915, in Jayton to the late Mr. and Mrs. John and Buelah Price
Goodall. She passed away Nov. 25, 2004, in Lubbock at the age of 89. She graduated from Girard
High School and married E.F. "Frank" Long on Nov. 26, 1933, in Girard. They moved to Seagraves
in 1952, where they lived until 1992, when they moved to Tahoka. She was a former member of
Temple Baptist Church in Seagraves, where she was involved in W.M.U., teaching Sunday
school, and Vacation Bible School. Mrs. Long was a homemaker and a member of Sweet
Street Baptist Church in Tahoka.
Survivors include her husband, E.F. "Frank" Long, five sons, Joe, Philip, Aubrey, Lynn and
Steve Long, two daughters, Gayle Tuttle and Annette McArthur, 22 grandchildren,
20 great-grandchildren, and 4 great- great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by a son, Benny A. Long, two brothers, and six sisters.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to Sweet Street Baptist Church.
