Maggie L. Maxey Madden

GROVETON – Services for Maggie L. Maxey Madden, 90, of Apple Springs were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in the Groveton Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial followed in Bennett Cemetery.
Mrs. Madden died Thursday, Nov. 25, in a Lufkin hospital.
She was born Nov. 21, 1914, in Carmona, the daughter of Sarah Covington and John R. Maxey. She was a homemaker and a member of the Apple Springs Baptist Church.
Mrs. Madden was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Louis Madden, in 1992.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn Elizabeth Kendrick of Houston and Lindy (Mylinda) and Tilton Ray Warren of Apple Springs; two grandchildren, Elton John Robert of Falls Church, Va., and Nena VeeRee Robert Deets and her husband, Stephen, of Cypress; five great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Robert and John Elton Robert, both of Falls Church, Va., and Tristin, Brenden and Jaron Deets, all of Cypress; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers included Elton John Robert, Howard Maxey Jr., Joe David Maxey, Jerry Eagleson, Billy Cox, Roy Lyn Madden and Coy Minshew. Honorary pallbearers were C.C. “Punk” Parrish, Oreal Watson, Johnny Merle Maxey and Fred Russell Maxey.
Groveton Funeral Home directed the arrangements.

Mary Catherine McCormick
December 6, 2004
GROVETON – Graveside services for Mary Catherine McCormick, 88, of Groveton were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, in the Bennett Cemetery with Bro. Lonnie Vallance officiating.
Mrs. McCormick died Thursday, Nov. 25, in Crockett.
She was born Dec. 18, 1915, in Longview and was a retired owner of a Galena Park restaurant. She was a member of the Parkside Christian Church in Galena Park.
Mrs. McCormick was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. McMormick; and two sons, G.H. McCormick and Richard McCormick.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Beecher of Groveton; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Lettye and Nat Stanaland, Rusty and Ann Waldrum, Woody and Lisa Beecher, Richard McCormick Jr., Callie Ann McCormick, Deborah Sue McCormick and Jennie McCormick; 10 great-grandchildren, Leslie Stanaland, Nathan Stanaland, Bryar Beecher, Brick Beecher, Brindy Beecher, Jennifer McCormick, Charlie McCormick, Rowdy McCormick, Teff McCormick and Sadie McCormick; and a number of other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be sent to the Groveton EMS.
Groveton Funeral Home directed the arrangements.

Ferrell Clements Whittlesey

TRINITY – Services for Ferrell Clements Whittlesey, 97, of Trinity were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, in the Trinity First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Everett McCollum officiating.
Burial followed in the Chita Cemetery.
Mr. Whittlesey died Sunday, Nov. 28, in Huntsville Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 15, 1907, in Center, the son of Oscar Leslie and Leona Clements Whittlesey. A graduate of Sam Houston College with a Masters degree in education, Mr. Whittlesey was a teacher, coach, principal, rancher and land developer.
He taught school for more than 33 years in several communities, including Chita, Carlisle, Groveton, Lovelady, Pennington, New Caney and Trinity. After his retirement in 1961, Mr. Whittlesey worked as a rancher and developed the Hillwood Acres subdivision in Trinity County.
He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Mr. Whittlesey was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Mispah Warren, Mary Mathews, Amy Hamilton, Alma Burford and Elma Hamilton; and a brother, Floyd Whittlesey.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Byron Lawrence Whittlesey of Trinity; a son and daughter-in-law, George and Betty Whittlesey of Groveton; three grandchildren and their spouses, Randel and Lisa Whittlesey of College Station, Karen and Jim Key of Missouri City and David Whittlesey of Groveton; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Whittlesey and Cole Whittlesey, both of College Station, Elizabeth Key and Laura Key, both of Missouri City; a brother-in-law, Samuel Buford of Bay City; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Pallbearers included Randel Whittlesey, David Whittlesey, Jim Key, Paul Warren, Larry Whittlesey and Dr. Craig Reese.
Honorary pallbearers included James Leslie Hamilton, Larry Hamilton, James Lawrence, Harold Lawrence, Forest Hilton, Bo Fotheringham, Gene Jenkins, Morris Brown and Dr. Joe Frank Thornton.
Waller-Thornton Funeral Home of Trinity directed the arrangements.

Joe Frank Williams
December 6, 2004
GROVETON – Services for Joe Frank Williams, 76, of Groveton were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in the Groveton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Larry Dunn officiating.
Burial followed in the Ellis Prairie Cemetery.
Mr. Williams died Thursday, Nov. 25, in Houston.
He was born Jan. 6, 1928, in Houston and was retired from Gordon’s Jewelry where he worked in store design and planning. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Groveton.
Survivors include his wife, Maurine Williams of Groveton; three daughters and their spouses, Malloy and Leon Brown and Tammany and Bob La Fosse, all of San Antonio, and Donna and Jim Bernard of Houston; a sister, Janan Crowder of Cold Springs; four grandchildren, Aryn La Fosse, Ashley Bernard, Sarah Bernard and Joseph Bernard; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers included David Norsworthy, Gary Norsworthy, Jack Watson, Dwight Whitfield, Randy Dunlap, Kendall Dunlap and Jerry Mac Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church of Groveton.
Groveton Funeral Home directed the arrangements.

John Daniel Fails
November 29, 2004
TRINITY – Services for John Daniel Fails, 58, of Huntsville were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, in the Waller-Thornton Funeral Home in Trinity with Charles Bartee of the Riverside Baptist Church officiating.
Burial followed in the Petree Cemetery in Walker County.
Mr. Fails died Monday, Nov. 15, in Huntsville.
He was born Nov. 3, 1946, in Shreveport, La., the son of James and Nellie Brown Fails. He was a welder with Brown and Root Construction and also worked as a commercial fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry; two sons and their spouses, John and Laura Fails and Jason and Kenda Fails; a daughter, LeAnn Fails; three step-children, Jimmy Lawrence, Amy Young and Heather Martin; two brothers, Bobby Fails and Billy Fails; two sisters, Dorothy Parrish and Lou Stepp; 12 grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Waller-Thornton Funeral Home of Trinity directed the arrangements.

Jason Dewitt Terry
November 29, 2004
CLEVELAND – Services for Jason Dewitt Terry, 35, of Trinity were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at the Paul Horton United Methodist Church in the Stephens Creek community in San Jacinto County.
Burial followed at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Stephens Creek.
Mr. Terry died Thursday, Nov. 18.
He was born Aug. 10, 1969, in Huntsville.
Survivors include his wife, Patrice Terry; his mother, Carolyn Shipp; his father, James Sandel; a daughter, Anna Gural; a son, Peter Gural; three brothers and their spouses, James and Francis Sandel of Huntsville, Jack and Kathy Terry of Shepherd and Josh and Patsy Terry of Huntsville; two nieces, Ryland and Harley; a nephew, Zack, and a number of friends.
Pace-Stancil Funeral Home of Cleveland directed the arrangements.

Robert Marion Yeiter
November 29, 2004
TRINITY – Services for Robert Marion Yeiter, 82, were held Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, in the Houston VA National Cemetery.
Mr. Yeiter died Sunday, Nov. 14, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
He spent a lifetime in the printing management business at various newspapers and as owner of the Express Press in Pasadena.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ruby Yeiter; two sons and their spouses, George and Beverly Yeiter and Jerry and Debi Yeiter; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association. Donations may be mailed to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Suite 1700, Chicago, Ill. 60601. Donations also may be made online at www.alz.org or made by telephone by calling 1-800-272-3900.

William “Bill” Garrett
November 21, 2004
LUFKIN – Graveside services for William “Bill” Garrett, 62, of Lufkin were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, in the Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Lufkin.
Mr. Garrett died Friday, Nov. 12, in a Lufkin hospital.
He was born July 9, 1942, in Oxford, Miss., the son of the late Ann (Cook) and Willie Word Garrett. He had resided in Lufkin for the past 15 years.
Mr. Garrett was graduated from Reagan High School in Houston and served in the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division. He was a member of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jimmie Garrett and Ronnie Garrett.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Garrett of Lufkin; two daughter, Kelly Garrett of Trinity and Stacey Garrett of Dallas; and a sister, Betty Ann Lee of Houston.
Carroway-Claybar Funeral Home of Lufkin directed the arrangements.

William Brooks Lipscomb
November 21, 2004
TRINITY – A memorial service for William Brooks Lipscomb, 88, formerly of Trinity, was held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at the First United Methodist Church of Huntsville with the Rev. Bruce Hay officiating.
Mr. Lipscomb was buried on Wednesday, Nov. 10, in the Lipscomb family plot in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Trinity.
He died Nov. 4 in Huntsville.
Born April 8, 1916, he was the last surviving child of Patrick and Nina Campbell Lipscomb. He was a graduate of the University of Texas and was a retired naval officer. During his career with the U.S. Navy, he served as a PT boat captain during World War II and held a variety of posts in the United States and South America until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Patrick Lipscomb and Tom Lipscomb; and two sisters, Margaret Lipscomb and Katherine Lipscomb Gay.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.
Waller-Thornton Funeral Home of Trinity directed the arrangements.
