Mrs. Cohen

Annette Hillman Cohen, 61, died Feb. 15. Services were Feb. 21 at the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
She was born Feb. 26, 1938 in Pittsburgh, Penn. She graduated from Lamar High School in Houston in 1956 and received her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Houston in 1962.
She had lived in Santa Fe, NM since 1971 where she was a business owner and teacher. She completed her Master's Degree in counseling at the University of New Mexico in 1985.
Mrs. Cohen was an artist, educator, traveler, mother and friend. She has traveled in Europe and Central America where she studied Spanish and taught enrichment classes, incorporating her travels and artistic talents into lesson plans. A group of her students were honored to show their artwork at the Georgia O'Keefe Museum.
Survivors include her companion, Wendell Quinn; her children, Ana and Seth and his fiancée Georgina Lippiatt; her sister Bunny Williams and husband Seth of Hamilton; a niece, Denise Gillespie and husband Doug and their son Seth Ryan of Hamilton; her brother Rody Glen Hillman II of Houston; two nephews, Rody Glenn III and Fred Elbin; her friend and father to their children, Herb Cohen of Santa Fe and numerous other lifelong friends and former students in Houston and Santa Fe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions or donations may be made to the Santa Fe Girls School for the Annette Cohen Memorial Arts Program (a 501C3 non-profit organization) 331 Buena Vista, Santa Fe, NM 87501.

Mrs. Burns

Estelle Burns, 68, of Gatesville died Feb. 27 in a Temple hospital. Funeral services were held Feb. 29 at the Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Schibler officiating. Burial was at Boggy Cemetery near Cranfills Gap.
She was born Nov. 24, 1931 in Hamilton County to James Clifford and Hilma Enger Stubbs. She married Calvin Burns in 1956 and he preceded her in death in 1968.
Mrs. Burns worked at American Desk in Temple for more than 27 years, retiring in 1995. Since her retirement, she has been actively involved as a volunteer at the Gatesville Care Center. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Gatesville.
A son, Craig Dalton Burns, and two brothers, Leo Carroll Stubbs and Gene Felix Stubbs, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Clark and wife Nancy Burns and Coby Burns, all of Gatesville; her mother, Rachael Stubbs of Gatesville; four brothers, E.T. Stubbs of Giddings, Charles Stubbs and John Stubbs, both of Livingston and James Stubbs of Henderson; two sisters, Betty Haven of Garland and Sarah Gohlke of Jonesboro; three granddaughters, Emily, Katlyn and Kelly Burns; several uncles, aunts and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Barry Stubbs, Jeff Stubbs, Nathan Gohlke, J.C. Stubbs, Johnny Taylor and Randy Bendele.

Mr. Taylor

Judson Collman Taylor, 73, died Feb. 15 at the Spring Branch Hospital in Houston. A memorial service was held Feb. 18 at Riley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Graves Gentry Cemetery in Hamilton with Rev. Dean Reed officiating.
Mr. Taylor was born Aug. 26, 1926 in Cisco, the son of Judson Gentry and Kitty Collman Taylor.
He was a former student of Texas A&M University and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. During his enlistment in the Army, he worked with his father on the "Manhatten Project" through the end of World War II.
He owned his own business in the floor covering industry and was a Presbyterian.
Survivors include his seven children, Chauncey J. Taylor of Dallas, Donald G. Taylor of Suwanee, Ga., Wendy Susan Miller and husband Roger of Austin, Cindy Taylor Blakley and husband Mark of Houston, Kitty Hinojosa and husband Michael of Buda, Judson Gentry Taylor II and wife Jodie of Arlington. John Kenneth Taylor and wife Laura of Elizabeth Town, Ky.; 17 grandchildren, Paul, Donald, Genevie and Elizabeth Taylor, Ashley and Geoffrey Taylor, Jessica and Adam Miller, Sara, Jesse and John David Blakley, Alex, Michael and Taylor Hinojosa, Judson and Garrett Taylor and Preston Taylor; a sister, Judith Murany and husband Ernest of Houston; a brother, John Donald Taylor and wife Karen of Conroe and numerous extended family and friends.
Pallbearers were Ashley and Geoffrey Taylor, Adam Miller and Jesse and John David Blakley.

Miss McDonald

Dorothy Dell McDonald, 65, died Feb. 22 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple. Services were held Feb. 24 at Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Sullenger officiating. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery.
Miss McDonald was born July 9, 1934 at Gorman, the daughter of C. Bishop and Beulah Williams McDonald.
She lived most of her life in Hamilton and was a member of the Park Heights Church of Christ.
Her parents and two stepbrothers, Paul and Bobby Jones, precede her in death.
She is survived by a number of friends and her church family.
Pallbearers were David Hopper, Don Morrison, Pete Jordan, Billy Cole, Jim Adams and David Jones.

Mr. Atkins

James Harold Atkins, 67, died Feb. 26 at Scott and White Hospital in Temple. Services were Feb. 29 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin McDonald officiating. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Atkins was born April 4, 1932 at Hollis, Okla., the son of Joe and Rachel Baccus Atkins.
He was married to Jesie Nell Sisson on June 23, 1956 at Hollis, Okla. He was a member of Hamilton V.F.W. and the First Baptist Church of Hamilton.
He was a veteran of the Army, serving in Korea. He received decorations, medals, badges, commendations, citations and campaign ribbons as follows. The Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, United Nation Service Medal and a Meritorious Unit Commendation. He served in the National Guard at Wichita Falls, retiring in 1991 as a CW 3 Chief Warrant Officer after serving his country for more than 30 years.
Bobby Joe West, a half brother, precedes him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Nell Atkins; four daughters, Turena Brakenridge of Gun Barrell City, Cindy Hauer of Seguin, Jody Just of Cedar Hill and Bron Brakenridge of Midlothian; nine grandchildren and a sister, Wanda McKay.
Pallbearers were Mickey Kinsey, Howard Fredrick, Jerry Munson, Bill Shipman, Jim Thompson, Bob Barnett and Matt Englebrett

Mrs. Powers

Mary Elinor Powers, 54, died suddenly Feb. 27 in Chester. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 4 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Wendell Wilbourn officiating. The family will hold a committal service at a later date.
She was born June 2, 1945 in Meridian, the daughter of Cameron and Myrtle Gustafson. She lived most of her life in Hamilton County.
Mrs. Powers had worked at Walls Industry in Hamilton, but foremost she was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was married to J.W. Powers on May 26, 1990 in Comanche. He preceded her in death on January 20.
Her parents, her daughter, Debbie Dellaughter; a brother, Cameron H. Gustafson Sr. and two sisters, Loraine Sams and Verna Foster, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, David Joe Dellaughter and wife Misty of Hamilton; two grandsons, Coleton Dellaughter and Gary Schuman; five sisters, Ruby Richardson, Carol Anz, Linda Welch, Martha Collins and Hellen Dietiker; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Mrs. Burris

Lucy Evelyn Burris, 88, died May 27, 2000 in a Hamilton nursing home. Funeral services were held May 30 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery.
She was born Dec. 2, 1911, the daughter of Ben and Mary V. Massie Linton and was married to Herbert Lee Burris in July of 1935.
Mrs. Burris was a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked at Purity Products as a meat wrapper for many years. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by a daughter, May Ann Schmidt; five sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include her husband; two grandchildren, Steve Walker of Marble Falls and Joyce Lee of Whitney and two great-grandchildren, Dustin Lee and Nathan Lee.

Mrs. Conner

Mittie Margeret Conner, 84, died May 27, 2000 at the Hamilton HealthCare Center. Funeral services were held May 30 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with John Conner officiating. Burial was at the Bee House Cemetery at Bee House.
Mrs. Conner was born Sept. 29, 1915 at Ozona, the daughter of Charlie and Ludie Gowen Moseley. She and her family moved to the Bee House Community where they farmed and ranched for many years.
She was married to Lloyd Conner on March 31, 1937 at Bee House. He preceded her in death.
She was a Sunday School teacher in the Bee House Methodist Church and she and her husband enjoyed taking their young relatives and friends swimming and camping at the Lampasas River.
She went back to school in 1970 and received her L.V.N. license and worked for Hamilton Hospital for a number of years.
Her husband; her parents; a sister, Maudie Malone and two brothers, C.W. Moseley and Carl Moseley, precede her in death.
Survivors include her son, Don Conner and wife Ann of Bee House; two grandchildren, Michael Conner, Jennifer Conner Campbell and husband, Scott; two great-grandchildren, Kendall and Trenten Conner; two sisters, Clara Ballard of Gatesville and Gwen Anderson of Kennedale.
Pallbearers were Michael Jones, Jackie Gibbs, Bobby Joe Anderson, Kyle Smith and Scott Campbell. Honorary Pallbearers were Doug Conner and Ashley Conner.
The family has designated for memorials the Alzheimer Association.

Mr. Grizzle

Jerry David Grizzle, 59, died May 23 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple. Funeral services were held on May 28 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. B.E. Latham Jr. officiating.
He was born Oct. 27, 1940 at Britton, the son of H.B. Grizzle Sr. and Margaret (Bobbie) Turner Grizzle.
He was married to Christine Buster on Feb. 28, 1960 at Muleshoe. He was an auto mechanic most of his life and a previous member of the Marine Corps Reserve.
After moving to Hamilton 12 years ago, he served with the Hamilton County Sheriff Department as a 911 operator and dispatcher for seven years.
His parents; one daughter, Lisa Marie Grizzle; two brothers, Joe and Bernie Grizzle, precede him in death.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Debbie Dodd; a son by marriage, Johnny Dodd, husband of Debbie; a grandchild, John David Dodd, all of Jonesboro and a step-granddaughter, Stormie Lee of Big Lake.
Pallbearers were Christopher Buster, Teddy Frost, Casey Buster, H.B. Grizzle, Zack Buster, Bobby Buster, David Buster and James Coulon.

Mr. Cooksey

Bill Cooksey, a DPS patrolman in Hamilton County, died Thursday, April 27 in Brownwood Regional Hospital.
Services were held Sat., April 29, at first United Methodist Church in Goldthwaite. Burial was in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Mullin.
Cooksey had a 46-year law enforcement career, which included being sheriff of Terrell County from 1961 to 1972. He began his career in 1949 in Llano.
He taught law enforcement at Odessa College from 1972-75. He then served as an instructor of law enforcement and security training at Texas A&M University from 1975-1981, before returning to chair OC's department of law enforcement and fire technology. He retired in 1994.

Mrs. Squyres

Ellen Dean Squyres, 74, died Oct. 6, 2000 at the Hamilton Hospital after an extended illness. Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at the Evergreen-Bundrant Cemetery in Hamilton County with Wendell C. Wilbourn officiating.
She was born May 21, 1926, the daughter of Clarence and Hazel Bruce Dickerson.
She was married to Elbert Erney Squyres on Aug. 15, 1957 in Farmington, NM. He preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 1962.
She is survived by a sister, three brothers and a number of nieces and nephews.
