Mr. Perry

Our community lost a dear one Wednesday, October 10, 2001, when the Lord called Jeff Madison Perry home. Jeff, 91, died after a short illness in the early morning at Hamilton General Hospital surrounded by his family.
A memorial service was held Friday, October 12, 2001, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin McDonald, Brad Davis and David Lengefeld officiating. Jeff requested his cremains be buried at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Hamilton.
Jeff Madison Perry was born in Hamilton County, Texas, on August 12, 1910, the first born child of George Madison Perry and Lillie Carl Dunn Perry. He lived most of his life in Hamilton and Hamilton County.
He was a graduate of Baylor University and did post graduate work at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, a Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the Eastern Star.
Jeff is remembered for the many hats he wore which included military man, pie baker, cook, rancher, teacher, friend, banker, husband, father, granddaddy, and Christian.
Jeff served his country four years in the United States Army, as a Captain in the Transportation Corps, and was a veteran of World War II. He went on to live the life of a rancher when he bought his first piece of land in 1947 and served as Vice-President of the Perry National Bank for 25 years.
Jeff considered himself a life long member of the First Baptist Church in Hamilton having been a member for over 65 years and served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years. In 1966 he was honored by the Hamilton Ministerial Alliance as Churchman of the Year.
Jeff was preceded in death by his wife Lura Bernice Crain of 49 years. Survivors include his wife of 16 years Jewel Katherine Perry; his son, James Harold Perry and wife Sharon L. Perry of Arlington, Texas; six step children Sheliah Oscher and husband Irwin of Fort Worth and Gene Grimland and wife Sandra of McKinney, Charles Parker and wife Vireta of Goldthwaite, Jan Idy of Austin, Evelyn Montgomery of Louisiana, and Guy and Latricia Parker of Sonora. Two granddaughters Lori Cross and husband Allen Cross of Tomball and Amber Perry of Conroe; along with ten step grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren Kenzie, Brennan, and Riley Cross and 2 step great-grandchildren; brother Alven Perry of Hamilton; and two sisters, Cleo Osterman of Lake Jackson and Katherine Arnold of Hamilton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mrs. Brown

Jennifer E. (Jane) Brown, 65, died Oct. 11 at Hamilton General Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Riley Funeral Home with Rev. Geoffrey Bailey officiating. Burial was in the Blue Ridge Cemetery with Father Ron Baker officiating.
She was born Feb. 28, 1936 in Cottenham, England, the daughter of Percy Charles and Hilda Pauley Gilbey. She was married to Baylous Brown in Cambridge, England on Feb. 14, 1959. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Randall Brown; a brother Lynard Gilbey; a sister, Pauline Broom and a granddaughter Katerina Brown.
Survivors include her husband, Baylous Brown of Hamilton; three children, Aaron C. and wife Bobbie Anne Brown of Springtown, Rodney K. and wife Glenda Brown of Alexandria, Va., Patricia Ann and husband Greg Harden of Colleyville; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, David Gilbey of Cottenham, England and John Gilbey of Kalamazoo, Mich.
Pallbearers were Scott Weant, Robi Kunkel, D.J. Horn, Willard Howle, Randy Yates and Stanley Morgan.

Mr. Green

Joseph Edwin Green, 87, died in Gatesville at the Meadows on Oct. 12, 2001. Funeral services were held Oct. 14 at the Evant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Marrs officiating.
He was born Oct. 12, 2001, the son of Joe John Green and Tennie Elizabeth Jarmon Green in Globe, Aroz.
Mr. Green grew up in New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle, graduating from Plemmons High School. He received his undergraduate degree in History from Texas Tech University. While serving in World War II he received graduate training in math and psychology at the University of Minnesota and LSU.
At Tech he began his love of coaching with intramurals. He later coached football, baseball, basketball and track at Ralls, Borger and Evant and taught history and math. He taught history at Gatesville State School for boys and later became a caseworker there.
After leaving Borger in 1952, he and his wife Hazel Ruth Peays Green, whom he married on July 23, 1946, bought a farm and ranch outside of Evant. He enjoyed raising livestock there until his death.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel of Evant; a brother, E.K. Green of Sherman; daughters, Jan Green of Evant, Marilyn Green Hayworth and husband Bob Hayworth of Granbury, three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Floyd Parr, Don Conner, Earl Coston, Mark Hayworth, Jonathan Thorn, Dale Haynes, Fred Chaney and Eddie Smith.

Mrs. Lambert

Winnie Alice Lambert, 83, died Oct. 14, 2001. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 17 at Memorial United Methodist Church with burial at Memorial Hill Park in Pflugerville in the Veterans Area.
She was born May 4, 1918 in Lamkin, the daughter of Claude Alexander Wilkins and Winnie Ethel Richardson. She was the granddaughter of Dennis Richardson and Armina Rife. Maternal aunts were Mrs. Ed Kubala, Mrs. Thelma Klump and Miss Jessie Richardson.
She graduated from high school in Mountainair, NM in 1954 and attended the University of New Mexico from 1934-1935. She attended John Tarleton Agricultural College from 1935 – 1936 and Texas State College for Women, College of Industrial Arts in Denton from 1937 – 1938.
She was married to Carl C. Lambert and they had two children, Scott Richard Lambert and Joyce Elaine Lambert. Scott has a son, Tyler, 16 and a daughter, Candice, 14. Joyce married Glen Whisnant and they have a daughter, Amy, 7 and two sons, Russell, 6 and Adam, 5.
Mrs. Lambert was active in the Delwood Opti-Mrs in support of Bartholomew Park baseball and football activities. She also participated in neighborhood activities with the Windsor Park Neighborhood Association and was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial United Methodist Church Youth Fund.

Mr. Evans

Alfred “Rusty” Evans, 73, died Saturday, Oct. 13 at Hendrick Medical Center. Graveside services were held Oct. 16 at Board Church Cemetery with Trey Mitchell officiating.
He was born Nov. 30, 1927, the son of Alfred and Phariba (Nelson) Evans in Comanche County. He grew up in Comanche, Hamilton and Gustine.
Mr. Evans served with the Navy Seabees during World War II at Okinawa.
He was married to Dorothy Watson on Nov. 12, 1970 in Abilene and he worked as a surveyor and a carpenter, moving from Jefferson to Cisco in 1998.
He was preceded in death by a son, Johnm Cosper in 1986.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Cisco; a son, Wayne Evans of Gatesville; five daughters, Becky Mitchell of Spring, Diana Cunnington of Syracuse, Ind., Karen Webb of Grand Prairie, Janean Arisola of Wylie and Gwen Runyan of Arlington; four brothers, Jack Evans of Atlanta, Ga., Blake Evans of Mansfield, Dan Evans of Cranfills Gap and Rick Evans of Arlington; three sisters, Peggy Kelly of San Antonio, Wilma Worksham of Lubbock and Nancy Hicks of Rising Star and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. Stephens

Viola Hargrove Stephens, 88, formerly of Hamilton, died Oct. 16 at her home in Hockley County. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton with Rev. Syl Moore and Rev. Wesley Jones officiating. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.
She was born Oct. 15, 1913 in Goodwill, Okla., the daughter of Herbert Berkley and Leona Berry Berkley and was married to Leonard Hargrove on Jan. 23, 1932. He preceded her in death in 1986.
She was married to Marvin Stephens on Nov. 3, 1987. He preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 1996.
Mrs. Stephens had worked at an aircraft factory during World War II. She was a hairdresser, rancher and homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Abernathy and a Sunday school teacher. She played piano for the First Baptist Church in Hamilton. She was a member of the Silver Streak Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and three sisters.
Survivors include her three step-children, Darrell Stephens, Verna Lee Salmon and Reginal Stephens and their families; her nieces, Helen Patterson, Danell Barnett, Sandy Beard and Rita Joyce Blackwell and their families; a host of grandchildren and great-grand-children.

Mr. Parrish

Lonnie Newton (L.N.) Parrish, 96, died Dec. 5, 2001. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 7 at Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Parrish and Rev. Kevin McDonald officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery.
He was born Nov. 23, 1905 at Mound in Coryell County, the son of Robert L. Parrish Sr. and Lillie Mae McHurgue Parrish.
After completing high school, he attended Texas A&M, Tarleton University, Texas Tech and received his degree from Howard Payne.
Mr. Parrish taught school in Olin, Fairview, Lanham, Big Valley in San Saba County and Ross in Coryell County.
During World War II he served his country in India as a mechanic with the Army Air Corp that later became the U.S. Air Force. After his military service he entered the service of the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier at Lubbock, where he retired April 16, 1970.
He was a member of the Texas AF and AM Grand Lodge of Texas for 70 years. He was a member of the Maples Lodge at Flat for more than 50 years and a member of the Baptist Church.
He was married to Wilma Faye Henderson on Feb. 19, 1949 in Stephenville. She preceded him in death on May 4, 1991.
He is preceded in death by his wife; four sisters, Etta, Ola, Molly and Emma V. Parrish and six brothers, George, Lee, Homer, Edgar, J.D. and Woodrow Parrish.
Survivors include his sisters, Clara Bomer of Mound, Josephine Weeks of Purmela, Vada Robinson of Hamilton and a brother, Rusty Parrish of Hamilton; 12 nieces, 10 nephews and a host of friends.

Mr. Davis

Roy Sidney Davis, 89 of Hamilton died Dec. 7, 2001 at the Hamilton General Hospital Funeral services were conducted at the Riley Funeral Home Dec. 9 with Rev. Bill Schibler officiating.
Mr. Davis was born Jan. 26, 1912 in the Fairy Community of Hamilton County, the son of John Henry and Hattie Pittman Davis.
He was a farmer and cotton ginner, working for Lawson Gin for 32 years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Mr. Davis was married to Myrtle Massingill Thompson at Gatesville on Oct. 25, 1962.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Fern Davis; his parents; and his seven sisters and brothers, Sam, J.C., Lois, Nonnie, Clarice, Oda and Ruby.
Survivors include his wife; four children, Bobby Davis of Bedford, Gene and wife Jamie Davis of North Richland Hills, Charles and wife Jane Davis of Gatesville, Patsy Davis of Bedford an daughter-in-law Jimmie Davis of Hewitt; a brother, Raymond Davis of McKinney; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Blake Davis, Cole Davis, Steve White, Mason Bullard, Billy Wayne Massingill and Doug Sliger.
Honorary pallbearer was Bud Wright, lifetime friend.

Mr. Carmichael

Monte Evart Carmichael, 88 of Lamkin, died Dec. 9, 2001 at the Hamilton Health Care Center. Funeral services were conducted Dec. 11 at the First Baptist Church at Gustine. Burial was in the Dublin Live Oak Cemetery.
He was born May 8, 1913 at Lamkin, Comanche County, the son of Monte D. and Margaret Ann Over Carmichael.
He was married to Jessie (Jake) Opal Busher on Sept. 19, 1936.
Mr. Carmichael graduated from Texas A&M in 1936 and then served in the Air Corp during World War II.
He served as an Agriculture Extension Agent at Brenham and then at Wharton and also owned and operated Monte’s Seed and Fertilizer business in Wharton before moving back to the Lamkin community in 1968 where he was engaged in the pecan and cattle business.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gustine where he served as a deacon.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife of Lamkin; a son, Monte Carmichael Jr. and wife Margaret of Lamkin; a daughter, Jane Bickham of Sugarland; five grandchildren, Keith Carmichael and wife Jana, Kelly Ann Carmichael, Ken Carmichael, Blake Bickham and wife Allison; Brenda Trayler and husband Todd; four great-grandchildren, Harrison, Hudson and Hayden Carmichael and Layne Trayler as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Larry Adams, David Daniels, David Baker, William Kirkland, Albert Pack and Sean McNeely.
Honorary pallbearers were Gayle Isham, Elbert Adams, Jack Hungerford, S.B. Armstrong, Robert DeLaney, Harold Bolton, Bert Hayes, Burk Denman and Bob Henning.
The family has designated the First Baptist Church of Gustine for memorials or one’s favorite charity.

Mrs. Bochicchio

Leila Platte Bochicchio, 78, died Dec. 7, 2001 at Sinai Hospital, Baltimore, Md. Funeral services will be conducted Dec. 13 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shive with burial following in the Hurst Ranch Cemetery at Star.
She was born July 26, 1923 at Shive, the daughter of Willie and Lillian Platte.
Mrs. Bochicchio attended Cottonwood school, which was a one-room schoolhouse and then attended Evant High School, graduating with honors.
She went on to attend Draughan Business College in Dallas, obtaining a civil service job and worked at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. where she met her future husband, Phillip J. Bochicchio. They were married on June 27, 1948.
During World War II, she was the assistant to the Adjutant General at the Pentagon, responsible for all troop movements over seas and their first night lodging.
When Presidents Roosevelt and Truman made trips overseas, including the conferences with Churchill and Stalin, Leila planned their trips. She also arranged the transportation of the movie stars when they entertained the troops overseas.
When General Patton was injured overseas, Mrs. Bochicchio met with President Truman and General George Marshall. She then made all the arrangements to fly General Patton’s family to Germany that same day. She also made the arrangements for the funeral of General John J. Pershing.
She was once called by the Pentagon regarding a soldier who was injured during a special mission. He had been in the hospital for some time and no one could find any paper on him. Mrs. Bochicchio remembered his case. A car was sent for her and a nurse sent to watch her children. She did all the paperwork, even managing to obtain all his back pay.
Mrs. Bochicchio called President Truman and explained what the man had done. A short time later, President Truman arrived and presented the man with a medal and a check for $10,000. He was so happy he was finally going home he kissed her as she handed him his airline tickets.
When not working, she enjoyed nature, art, decorating and travel.
Survivors include her husband, Phillip Bochicchio; three daughters, Linda Wolfe, Susan Woodbury and Maria Bochicchio; a grandson, David Wolfe and a brother, Ervin Platte.
