IRENO BAEZA

Funeral mass for Ireno Baeza, 66, of Silverton was celebrated Tuesday, February 6, 2005 at Our Lady of Laredo Catholic Church. Father Hector Madrigal officiated. Burial was in Silverton Cemetery by Myers Chancellar Funeral Home.

Mr. Baeza was a Catholic and a member of Sagrado Corazon and Curcillista.

Mr. Baeza died February 3, 2005 in Amarillo.

He is survived by his wife Ana Baeza of the home; three sons, Carlos O. Baeza and wife Melisa of Floydada, Joseph Baeza and Carlos Anthony Baeza of Silverton; two daughters, Lorena Baeza-Martinez and husband Gerardo of Arlington and Anita Baeza-Morales and husband Jorge of  Whitesboro; two brothers, Pablo Baeza of Pecos and Teodoro Baeza of Amarillo; four sisters, Maria Louisa Baeza of Burlington, Colorado, Maria J. Payden of Pecos, Agustina Paz of Meoqui, Chihuahua, Mexico and Manuela Rodriguez of Elida, New Mexico; eight grandchildren and numerous neices and nephews.

The family suggests memorials to Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center.

MARGARET BRACKEN

Funeral services for Margarete Lucy Coley Wallace Bracken, 89, of Daingerfield were held Tuesday, February 15 at Reeder-Davis Chapel in Hughes Springs. Norman Miller officiated. Interment was at  Johnson Memorial Cemetery in Munday.

Mrs. Bracken died Saturday, February 12 in a Linden Hospital. She was born December 14, 1915 in Munday. She was a housewife.

Mrs. Bracken is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Wanda Wallace of Plainview; one daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Glen Gibson of Daingerfield; two stepsons and a stepdaughter-in-law, Steve Bracken of Seagoville and Wayne and Nina Bracken of Wolfforth; one brother and sister-in-law, J.N. and Louise Coley of Longview; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Bobbie Kegley of Munday and Doris and M.L. Wood of Lone Star; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

POLLY CARDINAL

Funeral services for Polly Cardinal, 87, of Lubbock were held Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Floydada. Rev. Wendell Horn officiated. Interment followed at Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada. Arrangements were under the personal care of Moore-Rose- White of Floydada.

Mrs. Cardinal died Saturday, February 12, 2005.

She was born July 27, 1917 in Floydada to John W. and Stella Edwards Smith. When she was seventeen months old, her father died and her mother remarried G.R. May. Polly graduated from Floydada High School in 1935. She attended  Texas Tech University her freshman year of college and then transferred to  Texas Women's University in Denton where she graduated in 1939. She began her teaching career after graduation and was employed for over 30 years at Floydada High School. The first year she taught she sponsored a girl's social club, and when Future Teachers of America was organized she sponsored that. She was a cheerleading sponsor for numerous years and the first junior varsity cheerleader squad was organized during that time. She was also a senior class sponsor.

She met Fred A. Cardinal one summer while he worked for her mother on the family farm. They dated six months and married on October 12, 1941 in Floydada. Mr. Cardinal entered the Marine Corps the next September and Polly lived in San Diego, California and worked in an office at Consolidated which built B-24's while he was in the service. After he got out of the service, they came back to Floydada and in 1947 they moved to Dougherty and started farming. The Cardinals were blessed with their only child, a son, Louis Reid, on November 4, 1951. Like most farmers wives, Polly hauled wheat and maize to the elevators, cotton to the gin, and plowed a few days, but didn't have to do too much of that. Mr. Cardinal became sheriff in November 1976 and they moved back to Floydada in 1978. Jep, an ASF student from South East Asia lived with them in 1975-76. In 2001, the Cardinals moved from Floydada to Lubbock.

Mrs. Cardinal was one student who took "be true to your school" to heart. Her biggest hobby was supporting the Whirlwinds and a couple of her favorite colors were green and white. She was a member of the Eastern Star, DAR and the First United Methodist Church in Floydada.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, John Edwards Smith, W.V. May and George Reid May, II.

She is survived by her husband, Fred A. Cardinal of Lubbock; one son, Louis Cardinal and wife, Susan, of Lubbock; two grandchildren, Dusten Cardinal of Ft. Worth and Katie Glover, and husband, Judd, of Randolph AFB,  Texas.

The family suggests memorials to: Hospice of Lubbock, 1102 Slide Rd. Ste. 3, Lubbock,  Texas 79416 or First United Methodist Church, 203 W. Kentucky St., Floydada,  Texas 79235.

LLOYD P. MCCRAY

Funeral services for Lloyd Pinkston McCray, 91, formerly of Floydada were held Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at West Funeral Home Chapel of Carlsbad, New Mexico. Reverend John Hinze of Hillcrest Baptist Church officiated. The second service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2005 at City Park Church of Christ in Floydada. Interment will follow in Floydada Cemetery under the direction of West Funeral Home.

Mr. McCray died Sunday February 13, 2005.

He was born October 19, 1913 in Marlowe,  Oklahoma to Knox and Susan "Daisy" McCall McCray. His family moved to Idalou when he was a very young boy. He married Lillian Graves on December 15, 1937 in Floydada. She preceded him in death on November 10, 1970. He married Thelma Leona Odon in 1971 and she preceded him in death in 1999. He then married Roberta Bailey on March 23, 2000 in Floydada. He was a cotton farmer in Floydada. He loved to play the fiddle and mandolin, square dance and listen to the Gaithers on Saturday nights. He was also preceded in death by one son, Joel Bryan McCray in 1966, one brother and two sisters.

Mr. McCray is survived by his wife, Roberta McCray of Carlsbad; sons, Larry McCray of Conroe and Steven McCray of Lubbock; daughter Brenda Henderson of Nelson, Missouri; two beloved nieces, Janelle Isom and Bobbie Dixson both of Lubbock; two stepdaughters, Janell  White and Mary Ann Bannister, both of Carlsbad, New Mexico; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; twenty-six step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild.

THOMAS E. WARREN

Funeral services for Thomas E. Warren, 80, of Floydada were held Monday February 14, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Floydada. Reverend Gene Hawkins officiated and Reverend Anthony D. Sisemore assisted. Burial was in Floyd County Memorial Park under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

Mr. Warren died February 11, 2005 at Covenant Hospital in Plainview.

He was born November 5, 1924 in Floydada to Jess Erwin Warren and Ola Huckabee Warren. He graduated from Floydada High School in 1942 and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II. He married Ila Marie Battey on July 29, 1948 in Floydada. He was a County Commissioner from 1982 to 1990 and had been on Floydada EMS and the Floydada School Board. He was a farmer, a lifelong resident of Floydada and a member of the First Baptist Church of Floydada. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elaine Stout, on March 1, 2001 and a grandson, Bryan Thomas Stout in 1973.

Survivors include his wife, Ila Marie Warren of Floydada; two sons, Ed Warren of Levelland and Don Warren of Floydada; one daughter, Joyce Owens of Floydada; 12 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 610, Floydada,  Texas 79235.

Lockney Businesswoman and Civic Leader. Eleanor Schacht Dies

Eleanor Schacht, a Lockney businesswoman, community supporter, and church leader, died Sunday, February 27, 2005 at her home in Lockney. She was 93.

She was born November 26, 1911 in Harvey County, Kansas to the late Richard and Lula Grace Morris. She graduated High School in Plains, Kansas in 1929 and was the Salutatorian. She married Fritz Otto Schacht on November 26, 1929 in Plains, Kansas and moved to Lockney to farm, dairy and run a milk route.

In 1960 she started working for Simpson Floral and in 1972 Eleanor and Fritz bought Simpsons Flowers, Jewelry and Gifts and the business name was changed to Schacht Flowers, Jewelry and Gifts.

A daughter, Margaret, worked at the business until Fritz's death in November 1975, when she became a partner in the business with Eleanor.

Besides working as a florist, Mrs. Schacht was a Sunday School Teacher for over 50 years, sang in the choir and was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Lockney.

In May 1999, Mrs. Schacht was honored as the Pioneer Woman at Floyd County's Old Settler's Reunion.

During the presentation of the award, it was noted that Margaret had move from central Kansas to Southwest Kansas by covered wagon at the age of five. The journey of 200 miles took the family three weeks.

Because there were so few trees, Eleanor picked up dried cow chips for fuel as she walked the distance.

Eleanor was also named Lockney's Citizen of the Year in 1965.

A big supporter of her community, her children and her grandchildren, Eleanor was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, as well as a Brownie Scout and Girl Scout leader. As a Lockney Band Booster she had one or more children in Band for 19 years and was on the committee that bought the first band uniforms. She was also known as the chief chili cook in the Band Concession Stand at football games from 1956 to 1972.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Morris Don Schacht in 1969; one brother and five sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Clar Schacht and wife Judy of Floydada; Otto Schacht and wife Madonna of Plainview; two daughters, Margaret Schacht of Lockney, and Sarah Cameron and husband David of Midland; 17 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

The family greeted friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Graveside services were at 12:00 noon Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the Lockney Cemetery in Lockney.

Memorial services were at 1:00 p.m, March 1, at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Neely Landrum and Brother Kyle Brock, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Lockney.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Hospice Hands of West  Texas, P.O. Box 1118, Lockney, TX 79241 or to the Eleanor Scholarship Fund, McMurry University, Attn: Jennifer, McMurry Station, Abilene, TX 79697.

WAYNE H. ASHBURN

Funeral services for Wayne Howard Ashburn, 76, of Lockney were held Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Lockney. Dr. Carl Moman officiated. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Tuxedo under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Lockney.

Mr. Ashburn died Saturday, February 19, 2005 at his residence.

He was born May 8, 1928 in Stamford to the late Thomas William and Effie Lillie Ashburn. He moved from  Jones County to Halfway and in 1948 he moved to Lockney. He was a farmer and a member of the First Baptist Church in Lockney. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting, restoring and collecting old tractors.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Blanche Ashburn Ball.

Survivors include two nephews, Charles Ball and wife Ann of Plainview, Tom Ball and wife Jann of Worland, Wyoming; one niece Sarah Montandon and husband Paul of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado; numerous great nieces, nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Charles Ball Memorial Fishing Tournament, P.O. Box 1090, Lockney,  Texas 79241 or to the American Cancer Society, 3411 73rd St., Lubbock,  Texas 79423.

FAYE LACKEY CRAFT

Funeral services for Faye Lackey Craft, 78, of Midland were held Friday, February 18, 2005 in the Chapel of First Baptist Church of Midland. Reverend Bob Hopkins officiated. Interment was February 19, 2005 at Eastlawn Memorial Park, 1921 Early Blvd., Early,  Texas. Arrangements were under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.

Mrs. Craft died Monday, February 14, 2005 at Midland Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 22, 1926 in Lockney. She grew up in Floydada and upon graduation married Jack L. Craft on June 6, 1942 in Floydada, beginning a 52 year union of marriage.

She began her nursing career with Memorial Hospital in 1952 and worked for Dr. Roger Buck, Dr. V. Friedwald from 1954 through 1965. She received her LVN at Odessa College. She continued her career with Midland Women's Clinic until 1970 and rejoined Dr. Friedwald until 1978. She then opened a Diet Center in Midland and later owned and operated Diet Center in Fort Worth until 1983. Upon retirement, she and Jack then moved to Brownwood where Faye was active as a supporter and chaperone of the Howard Payne Golf team until 2001 when she moved back to Midland. Her husband, Jack, her parents Roscoe and Edna Lackey, her brothers Jack C. and Joe Eldon Lackey and her sister Margaret Lackey, preceded Faye in death.

Survivors include her son Kenneth Craft of Midland, son Richard L. Craft of Cat Spring, and daughter Waverly Ann Craft of Midland; four granddaughters; three great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and one sister Dorothy Merrell of Lockney.

The family requests memorials be made to the Jack Craft Scholarship Fund of Howard Payne University, 1000 Fisk Ave., Brownwood,  Texas 76801 or to Hospice Midland/Rays of Hope, Attention: Vicki Jay, 900 W. Wall, Midland,  Texas 79701.

THOMAS O. SIMPSON

Funeral services for Thomas O. Simpson, 74, were held at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Burial was in the Mason Cemetery, Trinidad, Colorado.

Mr. Simpson died February 19, 2005.

On September 23, 1930 in Lockney,  Texas twin sons were born to Charles and Norma Thomas Simpson. Thomas O. was born 30 minutes before Charles I.

Tom served 4 years in the United States Air Force. He owned Simpson Jewelry and Floral in Lockney for 12 years. While in Lockney he was Scoutmaster and served as president of the Chamber of Commerce. He and his family were active members of the Methodist Church. He had owned floral shops in Green River and Rock Springs, Wyoming for several years. He retired in Trinidad, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Ardury, of 43 years; his son, Blane and sister Bettie Emmitt.

He is survived by his wife, Orlie of 8 years; his son, Keith of Sapulpa,  Oklahoma; two step sons, Mike McElhaney and wife Millie of Lockhart and Jay Penn of Colorado City; one step daughter, Roxie Penn of Van Alstyne; his brother Charles and wife Mildred; a sister, Iwana Monroe of Tulia; six step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to V.A. Hospital, 6010 Amarillo Blvd. West, Amarillo,  Texas 79106, BSA Hopice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo,  Texas 79176 or Harrington Cancer Center, 1500 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo,  Texas 79105.
