Mr. Long

Edward Wardell Long, 85, of Goldthwaite, died, Nov. 15, 2003 at Hillview Manor Nursing Home in Goldthwaite.
He was born June 24, 1918 at Victor, in Erath County, the son of Charles Solomon and Amanda Bell (Wilkins) Long. He was married to Retha Mozell Tippett on Nov. 15, 1941 at San Angelo.
The couple moved to Goldthwaite from Comanche in 2002.
Mr. Long was a private contractor in Winters, until 1980 when they moved to Comanche.
He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Aleutian Islands.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Granvel Long and J. D. Long.
Survivors include his wife, Mozell Long of Goldthwaite; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Becky Long of Goldthwaite; three granddaughters and spouses, Tassie and Tim Spradley of Goldthwaite, Mindy and Craig Hopper of Priddy, and Jenny and B. J. Carnes of Brownwood; six great grandchildren, Ashley and Bailey Spradley, Kendel, Allison, and Mitchel Hopper, and Mackenzie Carnes; a brother, Alvis Waldrop of Winters; and two sisters, Jessie Danford of Winters and Opal Herring of Comanche.
The funeral was conducted Nov. 17, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Goldthwaite, Texas. Doug Holtzclaw, pastor of the church, officiated at the final rites. Burial was Lakeview Cemetery in Winters.
Serving as pallbearers were Harlan Jernigan, Frank Bridges, Don Henson, Mike Hoover, Gerry Head, and Lanny Dowell.
The family requests memorials be made to the First Baptist Church, PO Box 490, Goldthwaite, Texas 76844.

Mr. Sheffield

James Sheffield, 62, died Nov. 1 at his home in Houston. There will be a memorial service at the Baptist Church in Evant on Dec. 6 at 2 p.m.
He was a retired safety director and independent stock market analyst.
Mr. Sheffield was preceded in death by his father, James Leo Sheffield; his mother, Lena Smith Sheffield of Evant;
Survivors include his brother, Gary Sheffield and wife Gail of Sachce; two sisters, Laqueta Sheffield Helms of Midlothian and Linda Sheffield Lopez and husband Ernesto of Pflugerville; his aunt, Faye Smith and cousin, Kenny Smith of Evant; four nieces and two nephews.

Mr. Hurley

Charles Kevin Hurley Sr., 35, of Salem, Va. died Nov. 24, 2003. Memorial Mass was held at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church on Nov. 26 with Rev. Msgr. Tom Miller officiating. Private burial will follow.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Margaret Lambert.
Survivors include his wife, Danielle Hurley; son, Charles Kevin Hurley Jr.; mother, Nellie Hurley; father, Charles E. Hurley; two brothers, Larry Hurley and Barry Hurley; two nieces and four nephews, all of Virginia; uncle and aunt, C.W. and Mary Lambert of Hamilton; cousins, Debbie Sanford and husband Steve and family of Hamilton; Cindy Oppermann and husband Ty of Belton.

Mrs. Schneider

Winnie Louise Schneider, 69, died at Bryan, Dec. 30, 2003. Funeral services where held at St. John Lutheran Church in Hamilton Jan. 1 with Pastor Caleb Schoeneck of the Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, College Station officiating. Burial followed in Gentry Mill Cemetery.
She was born in Pottsville on Feb. 17, 1934 the daughter of Willis and Ruth Harris. As a young lady, Louise was made a child of God’s family with water and the Word through baptism. Louise was married on Aug. 12, 1950 to her beloved Melvin by Pastor Robert Nerger at St. John Lutheran Church in Hamilton.
While at St. John, the Savior nourished her faith, and on April 20, 1951, Louise was confirmed in the Christian faith.
Her husband preceded her in death on June 16, 1993. Her parents, five brothers and five sisters have also preceded her. Louise was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
The Lord, in his providence, brought Louise to heaven,
Dec. 30. She had been ill for several years. During these difficult times, the Lord gave Louise strength in her faith and peace in her body through his Word and his Holy Supper. Louise often spoke of Christ’s forgiveness and prayed for many individuals.
Survivors include her son, Steven Schneider and wife Diane of Hamilton; a daughter, Kathy Tipps and husband Darrell of College Station; three granddaughters, Stephanie McDaniel (nee Schneider) and husband Jay of Hamilton; Melanie and Kandace Tipps of College Station; and by two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Dustin McDaniel of Hamilton; four sisters-in-law, Dora Boelter, Mary Schneider, Violet Kemp, and Tera Vey Harris of Hamilton as well as nieces and nephews and cousins and a host of friends in Hamilton and Arlington where she and her husband lived for 31 years before retiring back in Hamilton. She later moved to College Station, to be near her daughter.
Pallbearers were Darmon Wagner, Murlin Bottlinger, Jerry Siepert, Ronald Karasek, Robert Delaughter, Ollie Zschiesche and J.T. Massingill.

Mrs. Karasek

Angela Byrd Karasek, 45, died in Tyler Jan. 10, 2004. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Jan. 13 with Pastor Art Hill officiating. Burial was at Center Valley Cemetery near Hamilton.
She was born April 7, 1958 in Arlington, the daughter of Luther and Ruby Oustad Byrd. She graduated from Arlington High School in 1976 and from Austin College in 1979 with a business degree.
Mrs. Karasek worked for Dunn and Bradstreet in the early 1980s. She bought a home and moved to Fort Worth in 1983 and went into banking in 1984 in Arlington.
She was married to David Karasek in 1985.
Her son Scott was born in February of 1988 and Bryan in March, 1990. She moved to Tyler in August of 1991. In 1992 she went to work at Kilgore First National Bank, where she worked for three years before going back to college where she took the required accounting courses and passed the CPA exam.
For the last four years, she worked for Tyler Jet as an accountant.
She was preceded in death by her mother and her grandmother, Eula Oustad of Hamilton.
Survivors include her husband, David Karasek of Tyler; her sons, Scott and Bryan Karasek of Tyler; her father, Luther Byrd of Arlington; a brother, Joe Byrd of Arlington; five nephews; four nieces; six great-nephews and seven great-nieces.
Pallbearers were Larry Frowick, Dan Gerber, Steve Harms, Howard Story, Joe Thomas and Lyn Rice.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 2001 Hunter Street, Tyler, Tx, 75701.

Mr. Pruitt
Jesse Eugene Pruitt, 63, died at Hamilton Jan. 10, 2004. Funeral services were held Jan. 12 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Don Morrison, George Tolbert and Dick Stovall officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.
Mr. Pruitt was born Jan. 19, 1940, in Hamilton, the son of Jesse Earl Pruitt and Mary Ruth Stribbling Pruitt.
On October 19, 1986, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Newhouse at Hamilton.
He grew up in Hamilton County, graduating from Hamilton High School and attending both Tarleton State University and The University of Texas before graduating from Mary Hardin Baylor.
Mr. Pruitt was a loving, kind, generous and caring son, husband, father and grandfather. He gave his time, money and energy to many causes that were dear to his heart without any thought of recognition. Early on in Gene’s life, he was a farmer and rancher. That allowed him to be close to his roots, allowing him to enjoy the outdoors with all that nature offered. He would spend hours digging for arrow heads, something he enjoyed sharing with his children and they enjoyed sharing with him.
He worked for the State of Texas program for the aged and disabled and for the Gatesville prison from which he retired after 24 years. He was instrumental in starting the Adult Protective Services and was a role model and mentor for those he worked with.
Mr. Pruitt loved history, especially Civil War and Egyptology. When the family went on vacations they always included a Civil War site. He loved discussing and teaching history and sharing it with his family and friends, from local family history to the history of the world.
He wrote papers on Jefferson that were published by Baylor University. Mr. Pruitt, for a time, taught history at Tarleton State University. He loved music and enjoyed playing for the Tarleton band.
He was a member of Parks Heights Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Pruitt of Hamilton; two children, Patrick Eugene Pruitt of Kerrville and Cassandra Diane Pruitt of Hamilton; his mother, Mary Ruth Pruitt of Hamilton and two grandchildren, Jess Taylor Pruitt and Peyton McKinna Pruitt.
Pallbearers were Nick Pruitt, Jimmy Pruitt, Steven Pruitt, Wendell Eaves, Ed Ramos, Josh Morrison, Stuart Newhouse and Danny Reece.

Mrs. Spaeth

Inez Fae Spaeth, 89, died Jan. 8, 2004 at Hamilton. Funeral services were Jan. 12 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Hamilton with Father Robert Harrold officiating. Interment followed in Hurst Ranch Cemetery at Star.
Mrs. Spaeth was born July 6, 1914 in San Saba County, the daughter of the late Green Berry and Ella Lane Spaeth.
On January 9, 1968 at Halletville she was united in marriage to Dick Spaeth. He preceded her in death on March 22, 1996. She is also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Christopher Kinsey and one brother who died in infancy.
Survivors include three children, Ann Maschino of Fort Worth, Charles Kinsey of Grand Prairie and Barbara Brumbalow of Hamilton; seven grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; two step daughters, Myrna Spaeth Cole and Zana Kay Spaeth Thorp, both of Fort Worth; three step-grandchildren; step-great grandchildren and two step great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Paul Maschino, Adam Lara, Carl Mathes, Rocky Bates, J.J. Armstrong and Billy Brumbalow.

Mr. Bynum

Keith Delton Bynum, 62, died at Hamilton Jan. 9, 2004. Funeral services were held Jan. 11 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Clifton officiating. Burial followed in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Pottsville.
Mr. Bynum was born May 13, 1941 at Hamilton the son of William Ross Bynum and Celia Melviney Northcutt Bynum.
He entered the Army to serve his country in June 1958, completing his active duty and reserve duty in May of 1964. On Jan. 27, 1962 at Goldthwaite, he was married to Julia Ann Wendland.
Mr. Bynum worked for Central Freight Lines in Fort Worth where he rose from dock hand to third in command of center then he was promoted to second in command of the Central Freight office in Houston.
After 16 years with Central Freight Lines he operated his own trucking company prior to moving to Hamilton. Mr. Bynum served with the Hamilton County Sheriff Department as a dispatcher, jailer and deputy. For a number of years he worked for Diamond S Trucking as their dispatcher and assisting his wife in delivering newspapers to the Hamilton area. He was a member of Goldthwaite Masonic Lodge # 694 and the Trinity Lutheran Church at Pottsville.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister and seven brothers.
Survivors include his wife Julia Ann Bynum of Pottsville, three children, Steven Patrick Bynum, Connie Sue Lee and husband Bobby, all of Hamilton and Raye Ann Bynum of Krum; four grandchildren, Keith Issac Bynum, Jasmine Marie Bynum, Lindsay Ann Lee and Ryan Mathew Lee as well as a number of nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers were Toby Logan, Dean Logan, Joe Surley, Holly May, Ryan Lee, Roy Reinert, Keith Issac Bynum and Josh Harris.

Mr. Gomez

Alfredo (Fred) Gomez, 64, died Jan. 11, 2004 at Hamilton. Funeral services will be held Jan.14 in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Gomez was born August 3, 1939 at Hamilton to Luis and Josepha Sabrian Gomez.
Mr. Gomez worked for Smith Oil Company and in Hamilton for many years where he enjoyed serving the community of Hamilton with their auto needs and helping people. He was employed by Bert Schrank L.P. Gas Company in Evant till his health decline and his retirement. He was a dependable, hard worker.
Fred was married to Linda Joyce Jones August 12, 1978. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed having fun with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Joyce Gomez of Hamilton, three children Donna Kay Musick and her husband Danny of Waco, Jo Anne Gomez and her husband Paul of Hamilton and James Allen Townzen and his wife Debbie of Corpus Christi. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one brother Paul Gomez of Hamilton.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Morris and Mike Gomez.
Pallbearers will be Roger Barnes, James Donahoo, David Amaro, Paul Amaro, Ed Ramos, and Dane Marwitz.
Honorary Pallbearers: Johathan Gomez, Eric Melorubio, Joshua Gomez and Brandon Gomez.

Mr. Rucker

Robert Fieldon Rucker, 90, died Jan. 12, 2004 at Hamilton. Funeral services will be held Jan. 14 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Marrs officiating. Burial will be in the Shive Public Cemetery.
Mr. Rucker was born September 12, 1913 at Shive, the son of H.A. Rucker and Cora Mae Bullington Rucker. He was a long time farmer and rancher. He was also in the sand and gravel business for many years.
He was married to Norma Williams on Feb. 14, 1934. She preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 1995.
He is also preceded in death by his parents and three sisters Mamie Bullard, Ola Chambliss and Rowena Gardner.
Survivors include two sisters, Maggie Gardner of Hamilton and Maxine Knelly of Belton; a number of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Randy Gardner, Sheet Gardner, Don Barnett, Jerry Chilton and Harry Bullard.
