MATTIE LOU WHITE

Funeral services for Mattie Lou  White, 77, were held Wednesday October, 4, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Coleman,  Oklahoma. Internment was at Center Hill Cemetery under the direction of Coffey-Murray Funeral Home of Durant,  Oklahoma.

Mrs.  White died Saturday October 1, 2005.

She was born February 29, 1928 in Floydada to Mary Rebecca North and Herbert North.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, M.W. (Dub) North; husbands, Raymond (Buck) Thompson and Robert P.  White; daughters Shirley A. Thompson-Gibson and Reba Marie  White; and grandson Roger D. Thompson.

Survivors include seven children and three step-children, James M. Thompson of Las Vegas, Nevada; Bobby W. Thompson of Mustang,  Oklahoma; Raymond L. Thompson of  Oklahoma City,  Oklahoma; Roger D. Thompson of Durant,  Oklahoma; Sharon S.  White-O'Connell of Kaneohe, Hawaii; Sheila M.  White-McMichael of Sulphur,  Oklahoma; Preston D.  White of  Oklahoma City,  Oklahoma. Stepsons, Garland L.  White, Robert R.  White and Steven C.  White of Coleman,  Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; and 15+ great-grandchildren.

She married Buck Thompson and had five children. When Buck passed away with emphysema, she moved to Pampa, and worked in her mother's cafe. She met her second husband Robert P.  White and moved to Coleman,  Oklahoma in 1957.

LUTHER DEAN BECK

Luther Dean Beck died October 19, 2005 in Weatherford.

He was born June 1, 1927 in Floydada. He was a graduate of Floydada High School and  Texas A&M University, Class of 1953, with a Bachelor of English degree. He served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church, Grapevine and the Masonic Lodge. Dean retired as a bond underwriter from Crum & Forster in 1993.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Jean (Bobbie) Beck; sone, Randy Beck; parents, Albert and Edna Beck; brother Jack Beck; and sister Evelyn Sparks.

Mr. Beck is survived by his wife, Julia M. Beck; son, Mike Beck and wife Kelly; daughters Cynthia Basore and fiance' Mike Parker, and Bonnie Snedecor and husband Wayne; step-son, Tom Branch; step-daughter, Margaret Mullen and husband Mike; two grandsons; nine granddaughters; and eight great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by brothers C.M. (Brock) Beck and wife Nada, Earl Beck and wife Janet and E.O. (Oran) Beck and wife Margeret; sister-in-law Maxine Beck, and numerous nieces and nephews.

FOSTER CUMMINGS

Services for Foster Cummings, 77, of Lubbock were held Monday, October 24, 2005 in Sanders Memorial Chapel. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.

He died on October 21, 2005 in Lubbock.

Foster was born April 18, 1928 in Crosby County,  Texas to Oma Foster Cummings, Sr. and Ella Cummings. He received his education in McCoy and Floydada and attended  Texas Tech and the University of  Texas. He was involved in public relations.

Survivors include a sister, Laveta Linehan of Weatherford; a sister-in-law, Elena Cummings of Gulfport, Mississippi; cousin, Debra Dupler and husband, Carlis of Lubbock.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Troy.

BENANCIA V. MARTINEZ

Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Benancia "Nachita" Martinez Velasquez, 94, of Lockney at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 27, 2005 at San Jose Catholic Church in Lockney with Father Jim McCartney, celebrant. Burial will be at Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Lockney.

Mrs. Martinez died Monday, October 24, 2005 at her residence in Lockney.

She was born on April 1, 1911 in San Marcos to the late Paulino and Jacinta Velasquez. She was raised in Bryan and moved to Lockney in 1966. She enjoyed babysitting, visiting the sick and was a member of the Guadalupana's at the San Jose Catholic Church of Lockney.

Survivors include a daughter, Virginia Valdez of Lockney; two sisters, Anacleta Charles of Lockney and Valerie Rodriguez of Bryan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

KATHY ADAMS

Kathy Adams, 47, of Lubbock passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 in Lubbock.

Mrs. Adams was born on October 31, 1958 in Floydada to Tommy and Jerry Pearson.

She graduated from Floydada High School in 1976. She worked at the Texs Tech Health and Science Center in the pathology department. She was involved in Children's Miracle Network and Breat Cancer Awareness. She also worked for UMC in Orthopedics and Top Dog Delivery. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Floydada.

Survivors include her parents; one son, Trevor Randall Couch; one daughter, Tessa Lashay Couch of Lubbock; one brother, Bobby Don Green and wife Terri Ann of Waxahachie; two sisters, Debbie Duff and husband, Steve of Lubbock and D'lene Schniers and husband Duane of Paint Rock,  Texas; 4 nieces; 2 nephews and a great nephew.

The family will greet friends Wednesday, November 30, 2005 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Services will be held Tuesday, December 1, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Floydada with Rev. Les Hall officiating.

Burial will be in the Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society, 3411 73rd Street, Lubbock,  Texas 79423 and First United Methodist Church of Floydada, 203 W. Kentucky, Floydada,  Texas 79235.

EFFIE FOSTER

Effie Griffin Foster, 87, of Floydada passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2005 in Lubbock,  Texas.

Mrs. Foster was born on April 14, 1918 in Foard County,  Texas to the late W.B. and Leona Harrison Griffin. She married Garland Foster in Crowell,  Texas on January 19, 1941. She moved to Floydada in 1949 after living in Los Alamos, New Mexico and Crowell,  Texas.

Effie was a member of the 1934 Study Club and a Volunteer at S.O.S. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church since 1949 serving in various postions in the Church, Sunday School, and WMU. She was employed by Carthel Oil Co. and Russell Equipment.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a grandchild, Brent Cumpton; a sister, Fay Oster; and a brother, Thomas Griffin.

Survivors include one son, Ray Dan Foster and wife Paula of Coppell; three daughters, Helen Masters and husband Burl of Lubbock; Linda Cumpton and husband Don of Hereford; Sue Sue of Lubbock; 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Riley Griffin and wife Chris of Odessa and Alton Griffin and wife JoAnn of Lubbock; and also several nieces and nephews.

The family greeted friends Saturday, November 26, 2005 from 10:00 to 11:30 A.M at the funeral home. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 26, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Floydada. Rev. Anthony Sisemore officiated.

Burial was held in the Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the Norma Allen Memorial Library Fund, c/o First Baptist Church, 401 S. Main, Floydada, TX 79235; Brent Cumpton La Madre Mia Memorial Fund at West  Texas A&M; or the Garland Foster Memorial Fund, c/o Future Teacher Association, Floydada High School, 618 Whirlwind Alley, Floydada,  Texas, 79325.

BESSIE GLOVER

Bessie (Memmie) Glover, 103, of Floydada died Friday, November 25, 2005 at Floydada Rehab and Care Center.

She was born on January 29, 1902 to John and Nora Hatley in  Jones County in 1918. She married J. D. Glover on October 21, 1920 in Floyd County. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1991.

She enjoyed quilting, cooking and babysitting children. She was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church of Floydada.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Duey, Orin and B. Hatley and one sister, Ruth Riggs.

Survivors include one son, J. T. Glover and wife Jeanette of Madill,  Oklahoma; one daughter, Juaneal Krambeck and husband Phil of Denison; 5 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2005 at Moore-Rose- White Memorial Chapel in Floydada. Reverend Anthony Sisemore officiated.

Burial was held in the Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Floydada Senior Citizens, 301 E. Georgia, Floydada,  Texas 79235.

LEONARD MATSLER

Leonard  Taylor Matsler, 91, of Floydada passed away on Friday, November 25, 2005 in Floydada.

Mr. Matsler was born on May 15, 1914 in Ellen,  Texas to the late Alvin and Annie Lackey Matsler, who were pioneers of Hale County.

He graduated from Plainview High School in 1933. He married Lahoma Moore on June 11, 1938 in Plainview. He worked at Quick Lunch Cafe in Plainview and drove a Coca Cola truck before they moved to Floydada from Plainview in 1941.

He founded and owned Leonard's Cafe in 1941, which is still in business. He retired from the cafe in 1977. He was a farmer, cattleman, served in the city government and was mayor for two terms. He taught the fifth grade boys class at the First Baptist Church of Floydada where he was also a member.

Matsler was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Lahoma Matsler of Floydada; two sons, Gary Matsler and wife Linda of Floydada and Mike Matsler and wife, Lou of Seal Beach, California; two daughters, Jill Golden and husband Larry of Aiken and AFS exchange student, Maria Antolini of Rome, Italy; one sister, Marjorie Miller and husband Donald of Amarillo; 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

The family greeted friends Sunday, November 27, 2005 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Private family graveside services were held prior to the memorial service. The memorial service was held Monday, November 28, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Floydada. Reverend Floyd Bradley officated.

Burial was in the Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church of Floydada, 401 S. Main, Floydada,  Texas 79235.

JESSIE LORILLA BRADLEY

Jessie Lorilla Bradley, 94, of Floydada, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2005 at the Floydada Rehab and Care Center.

Mrs. Bradley was born on January 22, 1911 in Afton, Dickens County,  Texas to the late James Franklin and Lucy Effie (Carlisle) Stephens.

She was raised in Girard,  Texas where she graduated high school in 1928. Mrs. Bradley married Ned Jack Bradley in Lubbock,  Texas, on June 28, 1947. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1975.

She moved to Floydada in 1950 after living in Estacado,  Texas. She was a loving mother and wonderful housewife. Jessie was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and a former member of Lubbock Christian College Associates. Mrs. Bradley was Chamber Volunteer of the year in 2003. She was also nominated for ACU Sisters of Service Award. Jessie was in charge of nursing home birthday parties, enjoyed cooking, writing poetry, sewing, and reading. She loved her grandchildren. Mrs. Bradley was a member of the City Park Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by three brother, Orwin, Waldo "Blue", and J.T. Stephens; and two sisters, Wilda Jane Millican, and Frankie Skinner.

Survivors include one son, Samuel Ned Bradley and wife Sandra of Floydada, two grandchildren, and two sister in laws.

Services were held Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 2:00 p.m., at the City Park Church of Christ in Floydada. Rev. Kenneth Free officiated and Rev. Gene McCarty assisted.

Burial followed in Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to the  White River Youth Camp of Crosbyton, P.O. Box 455, Crosbyton, TX 79322.

BEVERLY BREED KNIGHT

Beverly Ann Breed Knight, 57, of Cleveland,  Texas passed away Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 12:00 midnight.

Graveside services are pending in Floydada.

Knight is the daughter of Helen Breed and the late Frank Breed of Floydada.
