BEVERLY ANN KNIGHT

Graveside services for Beverly Ann Knight, 57, of Cleveland,  Texas were held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2005 in the Floydada Cemetery. Darwin Robinson, Pastor of Bible Baptist Church in Floydada, officiated.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 19, 2005 at the Neal Funeral Home Chapel in Cleveland,  Texas.

Arrangements were under the direction of Neal Funeral Home of Cleveland,  Texas.

Beverely passed away Sunday, December 11, 2005 at the Cleveland Medical Center Hospital.

She was born July 8, 1948 in Plainview to Clifford Hallowell and Helen Martin.

She was a graduate of Floydada High School. She was also a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Floydada.

Beverely was preceded in death by her husband, Loain Neal Knight, her father, Frank Armon Breed, her younger brother, Ricky Gene Hallowell and her sister, Kay Breed Elwell.

Survivors include her mother, Helen Laverne Breed of Floydada; 2 daughters, Lorie Knight and husband, Ricky Snell and Kasee Knight and husband, Guadalupe Maldonado, all of Cleveland; 2 brothers, Joe Mack Breed of Eastland and Rex Armon Breed of Lubbock; 2 sisters, Pamela Breed Rackley of Lubbock and Linda Breed Otrey of California; 4 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Honorary Pallbearer was Bobby Crozby of Floydada.

EDELL MOORE

Edell Moore, 86, of Floydada, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2005 at the Floydada Rehab and Care Center.

Edell was born on April 22, 1919 in Ferris,  Texas to the late Eugene and Beatrice (Parker) Moore. He was raised in Abilene and moved from Bandera to Floydada in 1951. He was a veteran of WW11 while serving in the Air Force. Edell married Lovene  Jones Decker on April 5, 1975 in Canyon, TX.

He was a Funeral Director and owned Moore Funeral Home and then brought Alton Rose as partner and the funeral home then became Moore-Rose Funeral Home for over 50 years. Edell was a member of the Rotary Club and Lions Club. He was Master Mason member of Floydada Masonic Lodge #712.  White Mortuaries honored Edell for his appreciation of his continued benevolence and unceasing cooperation in 1996.

Edell and his wife were honored as Floydada Frontier couple of the year in 2002. He was also president of the Floydada Cemetery Association for number of years. Edell was once quoted. "If I could be remembered for one thing, it's that when people have had to come to the funeral home I was glad to help them at a time they were hurting." He enjoyed visiting with people and most of all he loved Floydada.

A brother, Edward Moore, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Lovene Moore of Floydada; four daughters, Janet Moore Julian of Lubbock, Jenis Moore Tucker and husband Ronnie of Cortez, Colorado, Dr's Charlotte Decker Sutton and husband David of Auburn, Alabama, Sharon Decker Henson and husband Jeff of Waco; eight grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

The funeral service was held Monday, December 12, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Floydada. Rev. Floyd Bradley, officiated and Rev. Anthony Sisemore assisted.

Burial was in Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the First Baptist Church of Floydada Bereavement Fund, 401 S Main, Floydada,  Texas 79235, Senior Citizens, 301 E. Georgia, Floydada,  Texas 79235 or Floydada Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 444, Floydada,  Texas 79235.

CHARLIE BILL OWENS

Charlie Bill Owens, 83, of Belton passed away on November 27, 2005.

He was born May 15, 1922 in Denton County to the late W. H. and Mary Jane Owens. The family moved to Floydada on January 12, 1928.

He attended Campbell and Dougherty Schools and graduated from Floydada High School.

Owen was a U.S. Army veteran. He served 3 years during the Belgian Bulge in the European War.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Jim Owens, Bob Owens and John Owens and four sisters, Ethel Cross, Opal Cross, Millie Ball and Norma Webster.

Survivors include his sister, Ruby Gooch of Floydada and several nieces and nephews.

STEPHANIE SULLIVAN-TURNER

Stephanie Sullivan-Turner passed away December 3, 2005 in Denver, Colorado.

Mrs. Turner was born January 11, 1953 in Denver to Stephanie and Tim Sullivan.

She was a retired art teacher from the University of Denver High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Craig Turner of Denver, Colorado; one brother, Mike (Shari) Sullivan of Denver, Colorado; one sister, Karen (Rick) Yolles of Denver, Colorado; mother and father-in-law, Doyle and Dorothy Turner of Floydada and sister-in-law, Brenda and Bruce Kinast of Abernathy and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass was celebrated Friday, December 9, 2005 at St. Vincents DePaul Catholic Church in Denver, Colorado.

EDWIN RAY

Edwin Ray, 84, of Plainview, passed away at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Plainview Healthcare Center. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 24, at Genesis Baptist Church. Rev. Leonel Gonzales, pastor officiated. Interment followed in Parklawn Memorial Gardens by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

Mr. Ray was born January 9, 1921 in Drew County, Arkansas to Tom and Ella Ray.

Mr. Ray served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1942 to1944. He moved to Lockney in 1951 and farmed until he retired in 1990. On June 11, 1998 he married Janie Garcia in Plainview,  Texas.

He is survived by his wife Janie Ray; eight daughters: Dyann Ramos of Lubbock, Linda Paramo of Plainview, Eunice Marie Ramos of Plainview, Levell Sanchez of Garden City, KS, Rose Marie Bermea of Floydada, Lydia Rodriguez of Odessa, Maria Jimenez of Plainview and Delia Castillo of Minnesota; six sons: Harold Green of Dumas, Edward Green of Garden City, KS, Arnold Bermea, Marcello Bermea and Jesse Bermea all of Minnesota and Ricardo Ramirez of Plainview; 54 Grandchildren and 46 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Memorials may be made to Area Community Hospice, 3109 Olton Road Ste C, Plainview, TX 79072.

TRINIDAD T. SOLIZ

Funeral Mass was celebrated for Trinidad T. Soliz, 83, of Floydada Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at St. Mary Magdellan Catholic Church. Father Joe Relentes was celebrant. Burial was in the Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

Mrs. Soliz died December 21, 2005 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

She was born on July 2, 1922 in Live Oak County,  Texas to the late Cresencio Vasquez Tanguma and Filomena Saurez Tanguma. She married Pedro Soliz October 7, 1941 in Brownfield. He preceded her in death on March 3, 1969. They moved to Floydada from Beeville in 1962. She enjoyed sewing and working puzzles. She was a housewife and a member of the St. Mary Magdellan Catholic Church of Floydada.

She is survived by eight sons, Pedro Soliz, Jr. of McAllen, Ubaldo Soliz of Santa Maria, California, Joe Soliz of Plainview, Johnny Soliz of McAllen, Carmen Soliz of Conroe, Robert Soliz of Plainview, Felix Soliz of Canyon and Tony Soliz of Amarillo; five daughters, Trinie Cuellar of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Minnie Soliz of Floydada, Maria Garza of Booneville, North Carolina, Emma Ortiz of Lake  Jackson and Mary Mathos of Clovis, California; one brother, Ramon Tanguma of Beeville; one sister, Cecilia Reta of Corpus Christi; forty-four grandchildren; and forty great-grandchildren.

LIBRADA MARTINEZ

Funeral Mass for Librada "Lila" Martinez, 73, of Floydada will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2006 at St. Mary Magdelan Catholic Church, Father Joe Relentes, celebrant. Rosary services were held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11 at Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

Mrs. Martinez died January 9, 2006 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.

She was born on February 3, 1932 in La Villa,  Texas to the late Jose and Maria (Sanez) Cisneros. She married Ismael V. Martinez in September of 1960 in Floydada. He preceded her in death on March 11, 1992. She was a lifelong resident of Floydada. She was a custodian at Dougherty school for 15 years. She enjoyed cooking for her family and working in her yard gardening. She loved and valued her grandchildren the most. Mrs. Martinez was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church.

She is survived by five sons, Leroy Cisneros of Plainview, Tony Martinez of Dougherty, David Martinez, Robert Martinez and Johnny Joe Martinez all of Floydada; two daughters, Elva Martinez and Elda Hernandez both of Floydada; two brothers, Leo Cisneros of Floydada and Daniel Cisneros of Weslaco; two sisters, Berta Benitez and Josephine Bursiaga both of Floydada; 15 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

LEONA J. WATSON

Funeral services for Leona Jennie Watson, 87, of  Taylor were held Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Lockney. Burial was in Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Lockney.

Mrs. Watson died Monday, January 2, 2006 at Johns Community Hospital in  Taylor after a brief illness.

She was born March 16, 1918 in St. Vrain, New Mexico to the late Jesse and Mattie Fox Jameson. The family soon moved to the Dougherty community. She often joked, "I wasn't born in  Texas but I got here as fast as I could." She completed high school at Floydada and then received a bachelor's degree from  Texas Women's University in Denton. She later earned a master's degree at  Texas Tech. Leona began her teaching career at a two room country school before marrying Raymond Watson in 1942 and beginning her family. She returned to teaching in 1956 at Lockney Elementary, where she taught first grade and later special education until her retirement in 1980.

She became known fondly as "Granny Watson" to work colleagues and many others in the community following the birth of her first grandchild. Granny loved to brag about her former students successes. Although she was tiny in stature, a little larger than a child, the loss of her wit, intelligence and kindness will leave a large hole in many people's lives.

Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her husband Raymond; her parents, Jesse and Mattie Jameson; and a brother, J.B. Jameson.

Survivors include one sister, Verda  White of Dallas; two sons, Jerry Watson of Robinson; Stanley Max Watson of Rockwall; one daughter, Raye Green of Taylor; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; and many students and old friends.

ILA MAE HAMMONDS

Ila Mae Hammonds, 91, of Floydada died on January 11, 2006 at her residence.

Mrs. Hammonds was born on August 21, 1914 in Derrik, Arkansas to the late William and Lela (Modisette) Price. She married Clarence Theadore Hammonds on February 9, 1932 in Altus, OK. He preceded her in death on April 13, 1972. Mrs. Hammonds moved to Floydada from Canyon Valley in 1932. She was a wonderful housewife and enjoyed quilting. Mrs. Hammonds was a member of First Baptist Church of Floydada and a Sunday school teacher.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a son, Jimmy, a daughter, Clara, and a grandson, Teddy.

She is survived by two sons, Mickey Dot Hammonds of Lubbock, Michael D. Hammonds of Floydada; three daughters, Joyce Clemons of Salado, TX, Roy Nell McCown of Huntington Beach, CA, Linda Matthews of Dallas; two brothers, Buman Price of Proctor, TX, Pernal Price of Bullhead City, AZ; a sister, Jean Yingling of Palm Dale, CA; 10 grandchildren , 7 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services were be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2006 at Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada. Reverend Mike Holster officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

Family suggest memorials be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund,401 S. Main, Floydada, TX 79235.

JOHNNY JOE PERALEZ JR.

Memorial services were held for Sgt. Johnny Joe Peralez Jr., 25, on Monday, January 16, 2006 at Alaniz Funeral Home in Falfurrias, TX.

Mass was held Tuesday, January 17, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Falfurrias.

Burial followed with full military honors at Premont Cemetery in Premont, TX. Funeral services were under the arrangement of Alaniz Funeral Home in Falfurrias.

Sgt. Johnny Joe Peralez Jr. was born February 1, 1980 in Lockney. He grew up in Falfurrias. He was killed in the line of duty in Najaf, Iraq, January 5, 2005 at 10:00 a.m.

Peralez was a Sgt. Combat Medic with the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division of Ft. Hood.

Peralez joined the Army in 1999 and was stationed at Ft. Hood in Killeen. He was also stationed in Frankfurt, Germany for 2 years. He served in the Kosovo Campaign. He was one of the first ground troops in Afghanistan after 911. He later returned to be stationed in Fort Hood and then went on to Iraq for a one year tour of duty. He had been back in Killeen for 20 months when he was re-deployed on Nov. 29, 2005 for his 2nd tour with Iraqi Freedom.

Peralez Jr. is survived by his father and stepmother, Johnny Joe and Andrea Peralez Sr., of Lockney; mother, Virginia Garcia and Homer Mora, of Falfurrias; sister, Nina Kristine Peralez, of Dallas; brothers, Jessie Rene Peralez, of Lockney; and Romero Villa, of Killeen; grandparents, Jose and Tomasa Peralez, of Lockney, Carmen Arellano (and Beto), of Kingsville, and Pedro and Flora Vasquez, of Premont, TX. Extended family includes: Michelle Gonzales, of Lubbock; Jessica Trozt, of Dallas; fiancee Luisa Reyes, of Dallas; and numerous aunts and uncles.
