Mrs. Hoffman

Dora Hoffman, 78, of Plainview, died June 10, 2004 in Fort Collins, Colo. Funeral services were at Hale Center First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jimmy Cameron officiating. Burial was in Parklawn Cemetery in Plainview.
She was born Feb. 11, 1926 in Hamilton and was married to Robert Klatt in East Texas. He preceded her in death in 1965. She then married R.D. Hoffman who preceded her in death in 1987.
Mrs. Hoffman was a longtime Cotton Center resident and moved to Plainview in 1994. She had lived in Fort Collins for the past year.
Survivors include her four children, Art Klatt of Stillwater, Okla., Roberta Overman of Fort Collins, Colo. and Peggy Einerston and Bobby Klatt, both of Lubbock; two stepdaughters, Janie and Kathy; a brother, John Leitko of Fort Worth; two sisters, Leona Fulton of Hamilton and Ella Tischler of Fort Worth; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Tippie

Nellie Tippie, 105, died June 20, 2004, at Stanton Care and Rehabilitation Center in Stanton. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 23 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel in Big Spring with Gary Tate, of Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland, officiating. Burial follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
She was born on July 4, 1898, in Shive and married Ernest M. Tippie on October 13, 1913 in Hamilton. He preceded her in death in December 1946. She was also preceded in death by her infant son, W. H. Tippie and her daughter, Christine Hartley in October of 1996.
She moved to Big Spring in 1940 and to Midland in 1990.
She was a talented seamstress and after her husband's death she made her livelihood sewing for others and later worked for Swartz Dress Shop in Big Spring doing alterations.
Mrs. Tippie loved to work in the yard. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the V.F.W. She was a member of 14th and Main Church of Christ in Big Spring and the Golf Course Road Church of Christ in Midland.
She lived her life for the Lord and received strength from God to live such a long and healthy life.
Survivors include two daughters, Ernestine Hammack of Midland and Mealdine Principe of Panama City, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and 52 great great grandchildren.

Mr. Luker

Carl Ernest Luker, 84, died June 19, 2004 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. June 24 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hamilton with Pastor Russell Nebhut officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Luker was born in Romney on October 1, 1919, the son of Alvin F. and Bertha (Steffan) Luker.
After the death of his mother, Mr. Luker’s father married Emily Lehmann who raised Carl and his brothers and sisters.
Mr. Luker was one of seven children born to the Luker family. Shortly after the death of his mother, he and his siblings were sent to live with relatives until the time his father remarried. After two years the family was reunited and lived in Copperas Cove.
He was confirmed by Pastor L. J. Werner at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Copperas Cove on April 9, 1933 at the age of 13 years.
In May of 1941 Mr. Luker was drafted into the Army and eventually became part of the Army Corps of Engineers and was sent to Europe where he took part in the Battle of the Bulge. It was the responsibility of the Corps of Engineers to maintain the road system to facilitate the Allied advance as they pursued the German retreat.
Carl was given a camera and told to take pictures along the way for documentation. This no doubt set him on course for a career in photography. Carl served in the Army Corps of Engineers until the end of the war and on May 13, 1945 he received an honorable discharge.
After the war Carl, his sister, and a friend went to St. Louis to visit relatives. His cousins arranged for a blind date for Mr. Luker with Lou, who, he married 16 months later on October 2, 1949, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Luker worked at the Fort Hood photo shop until the photography studio in Hamilton was offered for sale. The couple purchased the studio and moved to Hamilton in 1950 and continued in the photography business until 1985.
On Jan. 3, 1951 Carl and Lou joined St. John Lutheran Church in Hamilton where they have been active and faithful members to this very day.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Walter Luker and Clarence Luker.
Survivors include his wife, Luella Ida Luker; two sons, Gary Kent Luker and wife Denise of Richmond, and Dale Alan Luker of New York City; two daughters, Janice Kaye Atchison and husband Chip of Lewisville and Deborah Lynn Israelson and husband Doug of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren, Cory Raibourn, Dustin Richardson, Scott Luker, Lindsey Luker, Trae Atchison, Samantha Atchison and Haley Atchison; one great-grandchild, Devin Atchison; a brother, Martin Luker of Georgetown; three sisters, Margaret Jones of Bastrop, Emily Luker of Houston and Helen McSpadden of Gastonia, N.C.
Pallbearers will be Robert Rowe, Gary Schoen, Jerry Zschiesche, Mike Jones, Hugh L. Coston, Cory Raibourn and Scott Luker.

Mr. Goins

Dolph Eugene Goins, 79, of Gatesville died June 19, 2004 at Gatesville. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday June 21. Graveside services were in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton with Pastor Russell Nebhut and Vicar Keith Reich officiating.
Mr. Goins was born on June 15, 1925 in Lampasas, one of eight children born to Dolph and Nora (Hutchieson) Goins.
When Mr. Goins was less than a year old his father died. In October of 1943, at the age of 18 he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was stationed in Japan at the end of World War II.
He was married to Imogene Jeschke on Aug. 7, 1948. After their marriage, the couple attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Temple where he was baptized and confirmed. He was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran in Hamilton and he strove to attend services even when it was very difficult for him to do so.
He served in the military for 21 years, serving in both World War II and Korea, where he was severely wounded. All but six years of his 21 years of service were overseas with a large portion of his time spent in Japan and Germany.
Mr. Goins retired from the military in 1965 and settled in Gatesville, where he served as both the Chief of Police of Gatesville and as a Deputy Sheriff.
He was a simple man who sought to serve his country and to love his family. He was a loving husband and father who took great joy in his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dolph and Nora; six brothers and sisters, Alonzo Goins, Willis Goins, Marvin Goins, Sadie Sutton and two other children lost very early in life; a half-sister, Pat Walker; and his oldest son, Glen Eddie Goins.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Imogene; two sons, Ricky Ben Goins and wife Karen of Lubbock and Terry Don Goins and wife Tami of Gatesville; one sister, Ida Mauser of Dallas; two half sisters, Oma Hutchinson of Dallas and Judy McMullan of Jackson, Ala.; four grandsons, Gene Allen Goins and John Wesley Goins, both of Chicago, Ill.; Kyle Goins of Lubbock and Drew Goins of Gatesville; two granddaughters, Krystal Hall of Levelland and Callie Goins of Gatesville; two great-grandchildren: Katelyn Hall and Seth Hall of Levelland.

Miss Simmerman

Cynthia (Cindy) Denise Simmerman, 15, of Evant, died June 20, 2004 at Temple. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. June 23 in the First Baptist Church at Evant with Rev. Wade Lackey officiating. Burial will follow in Langford Cemetery.
She was born July 17, 1988 in Greenville, S.C. to Gary Simmerman Sr. and Tyril Denise Reeves Simmerman.
Cindy loved to go to the car races to watch her brothers race every weekend. She lived to have fun, enjoying being a teenager and being with her friends. She was very much a “people person” never meeting a stranger. No matter where she went, she would know someone before she left.
Survivors include her parents, Gary and Tyril Simmerman; two brothers, Gary and Christopher Simmerman, all of Evant; her grandparents, Judy Chambers of Evant and Clara Jane Peek of Greenwood, S.C. and a host of friends.

Mr. Galindo

Jesse Rudy (Cooter) Galindo Jr., 22, died at Gatesville June 20, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. June 24 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Cude officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton.
Mr. Galindo was born January 26, 1982 at Clifton. He attended school at Hamilton, Gatesville and Evant.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He loved the outdoors where he enjoyed fishing, hunting and hanging out with his friends. He was a lineman with the McLennan County Electric CoOp, a job he dearly loved, climbing poles.
One sister, Amanda Galindo, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Cami Galindo of Gatesville; a son, Kyle Galindo of Gatesville; parents, Rudy and Jannette Galindo of Evant; mother; Arnetta Potter of Gatesville; sister, Jennifer Warren of Gateville; five brothers, Daniel Galindo of Lawton, Okla., Christopher Gutierrez of Fort Worth, Tyler Galindo of Gatesville, Josiah Galindo of Evant; and Ridge Smith of Evant, grandparents, Frank and Mary Galindo of Hamilton and Joyce Anglin of Hamilton and a host of other family members and friends.
Pallbearers will be Sonny Galindo, Ricky Martinez, Leo Banda, Mark Williams, Dusty Zacha, John Green, Randy Westerfield and Michael Brenegar.
Honorary pallbearers will be Barry Ballard, David Cunningham, Bryan Chandler, Tye Freeman, Victor French, David Gloff, Rick Haile, Miles McPherson, Bobby Ramsey, Charles Simmons, James Slover, Robert Snider, Ricky Steinkamp, Randy Farrar and Keith Bearden.

Mrs. Nelson

Carrie Fuqua Nelson, 91, of Cleburne, died Friday, August 13, 2004 in Fort Worth. Funeral services were conducted August 16 in the Cleburne Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Payne officiating. Burial was in the Gentry Mills Cemetery in Hamilton at the Fuqua family plot.
She was born on December 28, 1912 in Stevens County, the daughter of Joe Franklin and Nora Lamb Fuqua. She married James Perry Nelson on October 21, 1991 in Cleburne.
She was a homemaker and a retired clerk for Allstate Insurance Co. She lived her entire life in Texas. She was a fun-loving Christian lady who loved her family and enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved to travel and work in her yard and garden. She always had a beautiful yard with many varieties of pretty flowers. Her favorite pastime was fishing where her motto was, "If they're big enough to get on the hook, they are big enough to keep." She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James Nelson of Cleburne; four nephews, Bob and Gene (Soup) Fuqua of Hamilton, Joe Fuqua of Fort Worth and James Fuqua of Arlington; three nieces, Sue Fuqua Wilson of Austin, Betty Jo Bullard Gilmore and Nancy Bullard Garrett of Arlington; numerous friends, great nieces and nephews; great-great nieces and nephews and great-great-great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Newman, Bill and Cecil Fuqua; one sister, Lorena (Sis) Fuqua Bullard.
Pallbearers were her great nephews, Curtis Harris, Gene (Bud), Andy, Russell, Steven, Scott, and Jason Fuqua and Chris Chaffin.

Mrs. Summerhays

Sally Olsaver Summerhays, 65, lost her courageous five-year battle with cancer on August 13 at her home in Hamilton. Memorial services were held at Riley Funeral Home with Father Stan Sullivan officiating.
She was born Nov. 25, 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Edward Harrison Olsaver and Frances Morse Olsaver. Her father was killed in a car accident when she was eight years old. Her mother then married Joseph William Robertson. Mrs. Summerhays always considered “Skipper” her second father.
As World War II was ending in 1945, Mrs. Summerhays and her younger sister, Polly, moved with their parents to Southern California.
She was married to Aquilino Diaz II on Feb. 23, 1956. She and Jack had three sons, Aquilino III, Garry Anthony and Daniel Scott Diaz. She later married Richard John Summerhays on Sept. 30, 1972. The couple continued living in Southern California until 1993 when they moved to Hamilton. After moving to Hamilton, Dick was diagnosed with Early On-Set Alzheimer’s. Mrs. Summerhays spent the next three years caring for Dick until his death in 1996.
She was a professional interior designer, licensed with ASID. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants.
While living in Hamilton, Mrs. Summerhays became actively involved in enhancing the life of Hamilton. Until recently, she served five years on the Hamilton EDC Board, making the purposed Recreation Park and Sports Complex her priority. She also served on the Hamilton Civic Theatre Board and was a member of the Colonial Study Club and the Maude Shockley Art Club. She attended St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Summerhays designed and redesigned many of Hamilton’s home interiors over the past several years. She used her distinctive talents, creativity and vision to enhance many of Hamilton’s projects, anonymously designing the new “Welcome to Hamilton” sign.
Mrs. Summerhays had a flare and passion for giving life to old houses. Her independence and indomitable spirit are the characteristics that made her unique. She lived life her way.
Survivors include her sister, Polly Breitkreuz and husband Tom of Redlands, Calif.; three sons, Aquilino Diaz III and wife Elaine of Wistow, England, Garry Diaz and wife Nancy of Hamilton and Danny Diaz of Killeen; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Memorials may be made to Hamilton’s Pecan Creek Community Recreation Park, 200 East Main, Hamilton.

Mr. Stratton

Harold Glen Stratton, 51, of Moody died August 6, 2004 at the Olin E. Teague Veterans’ Center in Temple. A memorial service will be held August 22 at the Hasse Community Center.
He was born July 30, 1953 in Brownwood, the son of Jesse and Anita Jo Stratton. He served in the Navy and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for several years until a disability caused an early retirement. He was preceded in death by his step-father, James McMillian.
Survivors include his father, Jesse Stratton of Moody; his mother, Anita Jo McMillian of Hamilton; three brothers, Gary Stratton and wife Jody of Blanco, Ken Stratton of Moody; Ricky Stratton of Stephenville; a sister, Lisa Lively and husband James of Hamilton; Dwight McMillian, Ed McMillian and wife Margie of Brownwood, Donna, Tommy and Johnny and Sue Slaughter of Santa Anna and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Milloy

Douglas Frank Milloy, 72, died August 15, 2004 in Waco. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. August 19, 2004 in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marvin Andrews and Rev. Gilbert Donald officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Milloy was born September 28, 1932 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to Walter Francis and Hazel Vera Sheldick Milloy.
He was a veteran of the Canadian Navy, serving during the Korean conflict. He was a salesman of wholesale plumbing supplies, supplying contractors building hospitals, schools, post offices and office buildings. He was married to Esther Andrews on June 15, 1972 in Las Vegas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Randy Milloy.
Survivors include his wife Esther Milloy of Hamilton; two children, Shirley Janice White and her husband Noel of Friona and Joe Mark Milloy and his wife Vickie of Farwell and by nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Chris Andrews, Tom Dalton, Johnny Cathey, Jodie Cathey, Mike Kirkland, James Lancaster, Johnny Slough and Doug Wagner.
