Mrs. Shoaf

Sulyn Cupps Shoaf, 36, of the King community, died May 27, 2003. Graveside services were held May 29 at the King Cemetery with Rev. Charles McKamie officiating.
She was born Aug. 12, 1966 in Fort Worth, the daughter of Johnny Cupps and the late Susan Probst Cupps. She was married to Ricky Shoaf.
Mrs. Shoaf was employed at Forrest Ridge Nursing Home in Hamilton. She was a family person, loving and always willing to help people. She enjoyed the outdoors, driving down country roads, gardening and candlemaking.
Survivors include her husband, Ricky Shoaf of King; her father, Johnny Cupps of San Angelo; daughters, Mandi Hannah of Gatesville and Traca and Tasha Shoaf of Albany; sons, John and Tory Hannah of Gatesville, Casey Hannah of Llano, Marshall Shoaf of King and Tyrell Shoaf of Albany; brothers, Jeff Cupps of Gatesville and Kevin Cupps of Mound and two grandchildren.
The family has requested that memorials be made to the King Cemetery Association.

Mrs. Manning

Doris Manning, 66, died May 31, 2003. Services will be held at noon Thursday, June 5, 2003 in the Johnson’s Funeral Chapel in San Saba with Reverend Russ Frasier officiating. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, 2003 at the Funeral Home.
Mrs. Manning was born December 6, 1936 in Hamilton, the daughter of Albert and Elenora Jeschke. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She always thought of others before herself.
Her parents and two daughters, Terry Sue and Dusty Lynn preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband Don Manning; son, Rocky Manning and wife Tina and their children, Hanna, Vaughn, Angie and Randy; daughter, Tammy Whitley and their children, Michael, Christopher and Heather; son, Tracy Manning and wife Krista and their children, Courtney, Caty and Cody; step-daughter, Debbie Skipper and husband Randy and their children, Angie, Missy, Stephanie and their six grandchildren.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Ranch for Children, PO Box 60100 Boulder City, Nevada 89006.

Mrs. Schuster

Ara E. Howington Schuster Watkins, 85, died June 3, 2003, in Fort Worth.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Indian Gap Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Mrs. Schuster was born Dec. 29, 1917, in Mills County. She graduated from Indian Gap
High School where she played in the band and orchestra. She moved to Fort Worth in 1945 and later retired from General Dynamics.
She and her husband had two children, Ron and Johnnie.
Mrs. Schuster was preceded in death by her husbands, John Schuster and Winton B.
Watkins.
Survivors include her son, Ron Schuster and wife, Jan, of Weatherford; daughter, Johnnie Irene Chapman and husband, George, of California; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wallace Howington of California.

Mr. Arnett

Ivan R. Arnett, 88, died unexpectedly at his home on Oct. 30, 2003. A Round Rock resident, Ivan and his family previously lived in Baytown and Brenham. Services celebrating his life were held Nov. 3, 2003, at the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home. Interment with military honors followed at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
Mr. Arnett was born Oct. 17, 1915, near Topsy, Lampasas County, the son of Alvin Green Arnett and Minnie Addie (Harlien) Arnett.
A veteran of WWII, Mr. Arnett served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He retired from Exxon in 1973 with more than 35 years of employment. He later worked as a Building Inspector for the City of Round Rock. A Texas farmer and rancher, Ivan also worked in the residential and commercial building industry.
He was a member of the Graham Masonic Lodge No. 20 in Brenham. He was also a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Brenham.
His parents preceded him in death, as did his brother, A. C. Arnett.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Ann; four daughters, Bettie Taylor and husband Don, Ruth McBrayer, Nancy McNabb, Robyne Carroll and husband Tim; three sisters, Opal Burke, Joy Onstott and husband Delbert, and Kate Cole; sister-in-law, Jean Arnett; and mother-in-law, Nancy Parker. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Chad Taylor, Christi McBrayer Gentile and husband Scott, Cassie McBrayer, Cher McBrayer, Mandi McBrayer, Tamara McNabb, Tom McNabb and wife Candice, Tim McNabb, Tanya McNabb Kuehling and husband Eric, Lauryn Carroll and Joe Carroll; eight great-grandchildren, Hannah Gentile, Allison Ulrich, Reid Ulrich, Cameron Hightower, Alex McNabb, Tori McNabb, Jace McNabb and Dustin Kuehling; other relatives as well as many friends.
For those desiring, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Mrs. Cantrell

Carolyn Louise Cantrell, 56, died in Waco at Providence Hospital Tuesday Oct. 28, 2003.
Funeral services were held Oct. 31, at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Farris officiating.
Mrs. Cantrell was born April 18, 1947 at Silver City, New Mexico, the daughter of the late Edward and Vivian Taylor Cantrell.
She was married to Ernest Cantrell on March 27, 1969 at Hamilton, Texas.
She was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She was a Licensed Vocational Nurse dedicated to serving the elderly in the nursing homes in Hamilton for more than 17 years.
Survivors include six children, Duane Cantrell of Brady, Misty Cantrell of Brady, Sherry Musick of Stephenville, Tonya DeLeon, Lane Cantrell and Amber Cantrell, all of Hamilton; one sister Shirley Mize of Membres, NM and her fiancé Robert (Bobby) Berry of Hamilton.

Mrs. Atchley

Allie Mae Atchley died Oct. 30, 2003 at Hamilton. She had obtained the age of 106 years and 7 months. Funeral services were conducted Nov. 2 at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Murphree Cemetery at Evant with George Tolbert officiating.
She was born March 30, 1897 at Gatesville the daughter of Richard (Dick) Flippen and Janie Coffee Flippen, early settlers to this area. Mrs. Atchley was one of eleven children.
On Dec. 20, 1915, at the age of 17, in the church on Vista Mountain, she was united in marriage to Earnest Atchley who precedes her in death with his passing on September 15, 1961.
She was a devoted wife to her husband, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.
Survivors include five children, Ola Mae Warren, Darvin Atchley, Athleen Prazak all of Hamilton, Garvine Chumney of Fort Worth and Lavada Spruiell of Dawson; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great- grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Daman Pearce, Dyllan Jones, James Pearce, Lynn Pearce, Timmy Geeslin, Lee Geeslin, Billy J. Warren, Steven Warren, Danny Warren and Michael Warren.

Mr. Meade

Timothy Keith (Tim) Meade died at Scott & White Hospital in Temple Oct. 30, 2003. Graveside funeral services for were held Nov. 2 at the Thomas Cemetery located on the Thomas Farm with Clint (Junior) Crosby officiating.
Mr. Meade was born January 6, 1959 in Hamilton, the son of Harriet Thomas Meade and the late Jim Meade.
Mr. Meade resided on the family farm in the Rock House community; having moved to the farm from Garland at the time his grandfather was injured and could no longer manage the farm work. Prior to that time Tim worked for Fox & Jacobs Building Company in the metroplex area doing concrete work for new home construction.
After moving to the farm, Mr. Meade did contract hay baling and hauling, work pecan orchards with his grandfather C.I Thomas and dear friend Olon Crockett, automotive work for Mike Krueger and Tatum and Schoen Motor Company.
He and his friend, Jackie Blair were partners in J & T. Concrete Work. Mr. Meade’s also appreciated the good friendship and guidance of the Craig family. Mr. Meade’s favorite pastimes were fishing for catfish in the Leon River, playing darts with his friends and refurbishing antique cars.
Mr. Meade is survived by his mother Harriet Havens and step- father Hal Havens; his brother Jim Meade and wife Barbara and their children James and Laura; his sister Paula Kunetka and husband Chris; and their children, Kevin Bell and wife Kathryn and their children Tyler and Matthew John Bell and wife Jennifer and daughter Angelina and Greg Kunetka.
Pallbearers were Kevin Bell, John Bell, Greg Kunetka, Jackie Blair, David Johnson, Tommy Blair, Perry Boggs, Gil Cowden.
Honorary Pallbearers: Olon Crockett, Mike Kruger, Tommy Craig, Wayne Craig, Dean Craig, James Craig and Randall Craig.

Mr. Blakley

Cecil Eugene (Red) Blakley, 76, died at Hamilton Nov. 2, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 5 in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with George Tolbert and Rev. Bill Schibler officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairy Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Air Force, Dyess Air Force Base Abilene.
Mr. Blakley was born Feb. 6, 1927 at Fairy, the son of Jesse E. and Emaline Porterfield Blakley.
He completed high school at Fairy and entered the Navy to serve his country. After his tour in the Navy he entered the Air Force to serve his country again, retiring from the Air Force Aug. 1, 1969 after serving a total of 24 years obtaining the rank of Technical Sergeant.
On April 23, 1954 he was united in marriage to Fumiko Watanabe who preceded him in death on August 13,1977. On June 17, 1978 he was united marriage to Donna Mae Palmer at Hamilton. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife of Hamilton; seven children, Linda Frye of Carrollton, Ronald Blakley of El Paso, Sue Larson of Allen, Douglas Wright of Hurst, William Wright of Taylor, Larry Wright of Houston and Lisa Meeker of Waco; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ada Mae Oglesby of Kingsland and Irene Bankston of Temple and three brothers, Billy Blakley of Conroe, James Blakley of Hico and Joe Blakley of Birmingham, Alabama.
Pallbearers were Peter Brown, Douglas Wright, Henry Kattner, Ken Eddleman, Max Lam and B.J. Marek.

Mr. Sharp

Z. L. "Dock" Sharp, 79, of Midland, died Dec. 18, 2003. Funeral services were held Dec. 20, 2003 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Resthaven Memorial Park.
He was born June 5, 1924, the son of W. W. Sharp and Ella Callan Sharp in Carlton, and was reared and educated there. After attending Tarleton State University, Dock served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy.
On June 16, 1946, he was married to Ramona Ellenburg in Abilene. Prior to his retirement Dock was with the University of Texas, Lands, for 37 years. His memberships included the International Right of Way, Andrews Lions Club and Armed Guard.
Mr. Sharp was preceded in death by his parents.
Dock is survived by his wife, Ramona Odetta Sharp of Midland; daughter, Nancy Jane Wright and her husband, Douglas, of Gainesville; granddaughter, Kaelyne Wright; sister, Marge White of Carlton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, 305 N. Baird, Midland, Texas 79701.

Miss Sloane

Ellen Louise Sloane, 41, died Dec. 17, 2003 at Hamilton. Funeral services were held Dec. 20 at the Riley Funeral Home in Hamilton with Father Stan Sullivan officiating with interment following in the Live Oak Cemetery.
Miss Sloane was born January 23, 1962 in Wurtzburg, Germany the daughter of Robert Lewis and Roberta Louise Johnson Sloane.
She grew up in Hamilton, a town she never wanted to leave. Attending school in Hamilton she was active in 4-H, raising Angora goats, on the pep squad and worked at various businesses as part of a school program. She graduated from Hamilton High School in 1980. She was an employee of Alexander Moulding Mill and a Methodist by faith.
If there were words to describe Ellen they would be family and friends. She loved her family and would do anything for them, giving of herself without reservation. She extended this to her friends and helped with their needs even if this meant she went without. Her neighbors knew if they needed anything they could call on Ellen and she would be there. She treated everyone with respect. She enjoyed her roses, her dogs and her home. She loved children. She loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother Justin Lewis Sloane and nephew Michael Musgrove.
Survivors include her parents, Robert Lewis and Roberta Louise Johnson Sloane of Hamilton; a sister, Becky Musgrove husband Scott; a brother, Robert William Sloane and his wife Pam; five nieces and nephews, Kristie Lynn Sloane, Robert Justin Sloane, Jessie Calyn Musgrove, Melody Smith and Windy Pierce.
Pallbearers were Bobby Sloane, R.J. Sloane, Scott Musgrove, Herman Lanmon, James Lively and Stanley Morgan.
