Dr. Crouch

Dr. Norman Carl Crouch, 72, of Hamilton, died suddenly on Dec. 24, 2005 while on vacation in Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico. Services will be held at Riley Funeral Home in Hamilton on Dec. 29 at 2 p.m. with Jerry Roberts of McGregor officiating.
Dr. Crouch was born on Sept. 30, 1933 in Itasca the son of Andrew Cleddie Crouch and Ima Frances Scallorn Crouch. He attended High School in Rio Vista and Itasca.
He married Loris Elaine Moffett on May 31, 1956 in Austin.
Dr. Crouch attended Abilene Christian College and North Texas State University and graduated from the University of Texas in 1956. He graduated from the Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1966. After completing his internship at the Fort Worth Osteopathic Hospital, he worked as a family physician in Fort Worth for the next four years.
In 1971, he moved to Hamilton to join his brother-in-law Dr. Melvin Curry in family practice. He felt strongly that the community needed a hospital and worked diligently to help re-open the Hamilton General Hospital in 1988. For his contribution to the community he was awarded the honor of Co-Citizen of the Year along with Dr. Tan. In 1995, he obtained his board certification in Family Practice. Dr. Crouch was kind and gentle and generously gave of his time to help others. Though semi-retired, Dr. Crouch continued to work until his death.
Dr. Crouch was a scholar of the Bible. He was a founding member of the congregation at the Hamilton Church of Christ. He held regular Bible studies in his home for many years. He provided a Sunday morning radio Bible study for 25 years on KCLW. He officiated at weddings and funerals and conducted many baptisms. He had a strong passion for the Bible and was always ready to study privately or teach before a congregation. He loved helping others.
Dr. Crouch is survived by his wife Elaine Crouch of Hamilton, daughter Sarah Crouch of Dallas, son Dr. Mark Crouch and wife Leslie Crouch of Hamilton, daughter Esther Smull and husband Eric of Spangdahlem AB, Germany, and five grandchildren, Daniel Crouch of Dallas, Rachael Crouch and Katherine Crouch, both of Hamilton, Lydia Deaver of Dallas and Andrew Martin of Spangdahlem AB, Germany. He is also survived by one sister Nelda Curry and her husband Dr. Melvin Curry of Willard, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, both of Fort Worth.
Pallbearers are Kenneth Doyle, Johnny Doyle, Johnny Koether, Ernest Curry, Dave Curry, Don Rudolph, Dale Taylor, and Willie Holland.
Honorary Pallbearers are Clark Carlo, Melvin Curry, David Fowler, Ed Goodwin, Eddie Lohman, Eddie Holland, Cecil Polk, Raymond Steiner, Don Thomas, Rickey Wilson.

Mrs. Self

Ruth Self, 88, of Carlton, died Feb. 28 at Hamilton Healthcare Center in Hamilton. Funeral Services were held March 4 at Rutledge-Jones Fu-neral Home with Burial in Carl-ton Cemetery.
Mrs. Self was born May 2, 1917 in Carlton where she lived all of her life. She was a retired nurse and a member of Carlton Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dow Thurman Self on Dec. 21, 1958.
Survivors include her sons, Connie Mack Self of Gilchrist, Freddie Self and wife Brenda of Arlington and Jack Henry Self and wife Debbie of Fort Wayne, Ind.; eight grandchil-dren; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Chumney

W. F. “Dub” Chumney, 87, died March 1, 2006 in Houston. Graveside services were held at Oakland Cemetery, in Warren Arkansas on March 5, 2006 at 2:00 pm. Reverend G.T. Stanley of First Baptist Church of Warren, Arkansas officiated.
Born September 1, 1918 in Hamilton, he was the only son of Arthur F. Chumney and Ollie Simpson Chumney.
He was a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches and a resident for 32 years be-fore moving to Houston. Mr. Chumney served in the Marine Corps during WWII.
W.F. Chumney was married to Ruth Chumney, who pre-ceded him in death on Sept. 5, 1996. He is also preceded in death by a sister.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, John and Sandra Chumney of Houston.

Mrs. Putty

Harlean Sue Putty, 70, of Hico, died March 3, 2006 at Harris Methodist Erath County Hospital. Funeral services were held at Olin Baptist Church with Rev. Josh Morrison offici-ating. Burial was at Putty Family Cemetery.
She was born May 4, 1935 at Carter, Okla and had lived in Hico since 1966. She was a registered nurse and a member of Olin Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Jackie Fouts and Judy Wyatt; a son, James Putty; brothers, Philip Duncan and Stanley Duncan and six grandchildren.

Mr. Radford

Ray G. Radford, 87, died March 1, 2006 at Hamilton. Funeral services were held March 3 in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with burial fol-lowing in Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Marvin Andrews officiating.
Mr. Radford was born April 21, 1918 at Teagu, the son of the late Robert G. Radford and Mary Ann (Annie) Stringer Radford.
He was a veteran of the Army serving during World War II. On April 22, 1943 he entered the Army at Fort Sheri-dan, Illinois. On Sept. 21, 1943 he departed the United State shipping out to the European War Theater.
During his service overseas he served in battles and cam-paigns in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was a qualified marksman with the rifle. He was awarded four Overseas Service Bars, Euro-pean-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one bronze star, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. At the end of the war he departed Europe on November 16, 1945, arriving in the United States on November 27, 1945.
After the war he developed, owned and operated Air Control, Inc., an air conditioning firm for forty-five years in Farmers Branch. He was an avid golfer and a lifetime member of the Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch.
On January 15, 1977 he was married to Tommie Cathey Smith at Hamilton.
Mr. Radford was a member of the Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Bonnie Ruth Price and two brothers Leslie and J.D. Radford.
Survivors include his wife Tommie Radford of Hamilton; daughter Raynel Klonsinski of Oregon, Wisconsin and her children, Jeremy Bamsch, Melissa Klonsinski, and Madi-son Klonsinski, daughter Vicki Swaim and her husband Charles of Tolar and their chil-dren; Ryan and Clay Faulken-berry; seven great-grandchildren and nephew Robert Radford of Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Honorary pallbearers were those who loved and cared for him at Forrest Oaks Nursing Home.

Mr. Robinson

Rex Byron Robinson, 84, died March 1 at Hamilton. Fu-neral services were held Saturday in the Riley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marvin Andrews officiating. Burial following in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Robinson was born Oct. 22, 1921 in Energy, the son of Pastor Jonathan Yancy Robinson and his wife, Maude Ethel Webb.
Also born to the Robinsons were J. Y. Robinson Jr. now deceased, and Colleen Robinson Lawrence.
He graduated from high school in Gustine and was mar-ried to Georgia Marie Hurley on Oct. 18, 1941.
The couple raised three children: Rex Dee Robinson, Mar-tha Larine Guest, and Jerry Lee Robinson.
When the US entered WWII, Mr. Robinson volun-teered for service and went on to the US Army Air Corps. After the war he used his elec-tronics knowledge to work in the radio and television repair field, going on to teach elec-tronics at the Texas State School in Gainesville from 1968-1974.
In 1974 the Robinsons began a fourteen-year journey of service to the elderly by owning and operating nursing homes.
In 1959, Rex moved his family to Hamilton County. That move began a 47-year passionate involvement in farming and ranching.
Survivors include four grandchildren, Austin Guest, Corbett Guest, Jerrod Robinson, and Adam Robinson; three great-grandchildren, Gabriella, Beckham, and Elijah Guest.
Pallbearers were Austin Guest, Corbett Guest, Jerrod Robinson, Adams Robinson, Brook Beezley and Joe Haynes.
Honorary Pallbearers were Verner Gromatzky, Sallie Craig, Dean Craig, Seth Craig, Ramon Haile, Stan Thomashide and Kenneth Andrews.

Mrs. Bynum

Verta Sue Tully Bynum died March 2, 2006 after a lengthy illness at the age of 75. Funeral services were at the Riley Fu-neral Home Chapel in Hamilton March 4. Burial was in the Indian Gap Cemetery with Brother Dick Stovall officiat-ing.
Mrs. Bynum was the tenth child of Will and Stella Bickel Tully. She was born on January 11, 1931 in the Indian Gap Community were she graduated from Indian Gap School and then continued her education in the Pottsville School system where she earned another di-ploma.
She and her husband were the owners and operators of the Bynum’s Store in Pottsville for 35 years.
Mrs. Bynum was an active member of the Park Heights Church of Christ in Hamilton. Before her retirement and illness she and Doyle were very active in the Pottsville Community and school. They were always lending a helping hand or donating to a cause.
She was preceded in death by her husband, D.R. Bynum (Doyle); her parents, Will and Stella Bickel Tully; six sisters, Lena Ryan, Ruth Couch, Eva Mae Price, Mitta Barnes, Wilma (Billie) Bramblett, and Etha Marie Griffis, and three brothers; Orvall, Herman, and Alvin Tully, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Eddie Ray and Terri of Lubbock; a grand-son, Will Bynum, also of Lubbock and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are some very dear friends whom she considered part of her fam-ily, James Beyers, Peggy, Everett, Jodie, and Jami Vandiver, and a host of many friends she felt very close to.
Pallbearers were Tom Stegemoller, Monroe Schultz, Robert Witzsche, Michael Hopper, Mike Hanes, and James W. Ivey.
Honorary pallbearers are were H. T. Rea, Joe Surley, Bill Kinsey, B.J. Marwitz, Charlie Schultz, Dick Killian, Bill Wil-son, Cecil Kautitzsch, Alfred Reinert, W.F. McPherson, and Milton Stegemoller.

Mrs. Thompson

Retta Gay Medford Gum-melt Thompson, 85, of Evant, died March 4 at her home. Fu-neral Services were held March 7 in the Evant First Baptist Church with Rev. David Bon-net Officiating. Burial followed in the Murphree Cemetery.
Mrs. Thompson was born August 23, 1921 in Mills County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Medford.
She was married to James B. Thompson on Dec. 31, 1960 in Midland. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Mrs. Thompson was a member of the Evant First Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her children, Odell Gummelt of Gatesville, Alvin June Gummelt of Mound , Yvonne Meissner of Evant, Sam Gummelt of Evant, Janice Melde of Hamilton; 14 grandchildren; 19 great- grand-children, two great-great grandchildren and a sister, Daughty Yeager of Mullin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Gary O’Dean Gummelt in 1964 and three brothers.

Mrs. Fowler

Dixie Boatright Fowler died Feb. 12, 2006 in Dallas.
She was born in San Angelo on March 25, 1933 and was married to Horace Fowler on July 9, 1950.
Mrs. Fowler was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, her life centered around the love of her art.
When she moved to Dallas she joined the Artists and Craftsment Association where she served as president. She painted with oils and pastels using landscapes and still life as subjects.
Mrs. Fowler was asked to give demonstrations to many art clubs in North and East Texas.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Vicki and Don Deadman; a daughter Michelle Fowler and daughter Stacy and Steve Biggs; two grandsons, Chase and Collin Deadman; two granddaughters, Lauren and Sydney Biggs; a granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer Deadman and a sister, Dorothy Bomar of San Angelo.

Mrs. Prescott

Carolyn Sue Prescott, 59, died at her home March 3, 2006. Funeral services were held March 5 in the Riley Fu-neral Home Chapel with Keith Felton officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.
She was born October 31, 1946 in Dallas, the daughter of Ross and Jewell Johnson Blackwell.
While attending Hamilton High School prior to graduation she worked two jobs. She kept booksfor a service station and worked at the concession stand at the Texan Theater.
She was married to Jimmy Leon Prescott on August 9, 1965 at Abilene.
Mrs. Prescott was a loving and devoted wife and a help-mate to her husband. She worked in the First United Methodist Church Day Care for a number of years because of her love of children. She shared her love for reading with the children and had a true zest for life. She was a member of Park Heights Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Leonard Blackwell.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy Prescott of Hamilton; two nieces that she and Jimmy raised as their own, Lisa Gail Bradshaw of Stephenville and Elizabeth Suzanne Bosse of Hamilton. She was Nana to Heather Bradshaw and Jackson and Braden Bosse. She is also survived by three sisters, Jackie Martin of Stephenville, Ann Blackman of San Antonio and Evelyn Lee of Comanche as well as a brother Billy Jack Blackwell of Stephenville.
Pallbearers were Billy Towers, Doug Whitehead, Brad Whitehead, Curtis Blackwell, Murry Blackwell and Johnny Blackwell.
