Stevenson

Elisabeth Frieda Stevenson, 72, of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001 at the University of Texas in Tyler.

Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 at Union Hill Cemetery in Mount Pleasant under the direction of Curry-Welborn Funeral Home. Robert Besser officiated.

Mrs. Stevenson was born June 9, 1929 in Frankfert, Germany, the daughter of Rosa Emrick. She was a housewife and a Baptist.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Roy Stevenson of Mount Pleasant; son and daughter-in-law Dane and Gail Stevenson of Jefferson; daughter Lenda Elrod of Mount Pleasant; brother Karl Emrick of Frankfert, Germany; grandchildren Tony Lohman, James Elrod, Wendi Price; Melissa Hall and Joseph Elrod; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Banning

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE ARK. - Leotta M. Banning, 77, of Hot Springs Village, Ark., died Sunday, July 15, 2001 at her residence.

Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Friday, July 20 at Masonic Cemetery in Mount Pleasant under the direction of Bates-Cooper Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Newton officiate.

Mrs. Banning was born March 29, 1924 in Upshur County. She taught many years for the Dallas Independent School District.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Banning of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; son and daughter-in-law, Powell and Candace Banning of Grapevine; daughter, Jeannie Banning of Carbondale, Ill.; granddaughters, Elizabeth Banning, Megan Banning, both of Grapevine and Kristin Banning of Carbon.

Memorial contributions may be made to Village United Methodist Church of Hot Springs Village, Ark., or Shrine Hospital for children.

Benefield

WAXAHACIE - Lula Faye Benefield, 82, of Waxahachie, died Monday, July 16, 2001 at her residence.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 18 at Curry-Welborn Funeral Home Chapel. L.C. Terry and Doyle Rust officiated. Interment was in Bridges Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Ryan, Glen Ryan, Paul Ryan, Buddy Ryan, Kerry Wayne Benefield, Kevin Benefield, Mike Blount, Jack Anderson, Jerry David Hufstetler and Billy Hufstetler.

Mrs. Benefield was born March 13, 1919 in Durant, Okla., the daughter of Jacob Andrew Lockaby and Mary Bessie Knipe. She was a housewife and a member of Cypress Baptist Church. She lived in Ellis County for 11 years after moving from Mount Pleasant.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Kenneth Venoy and Jeanie Benefield of Ore City, Richard and Brenda Benefield of Tyler, Gaylon and Pat Benefield of Mount Pleasant, Bobby Benefield of Pittsburg; daughters and sons-in-law Mary Hufstetler of Waxahachie, Sue and E.B. Blount of Pittsburg, Linda and Perry Lee Ryan of Mount Pleasant, Brenda Baker of Waxahachie, Wanda Anderson of Mount Pleasant; brothers and sisters-in-law Alvis and Addie Lockaby, Allen and Mary Lockaby, all of Mount Pleasant; sister Cora Mae McElroy of Mount Pleasant; 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Jefferson (Jeff) Benefield; daughter Sara Ann Benefield; sons Martin Benefield, James Benefield.

Carlton

NAPLES - Frances Carlton, 87, of Naples, died Saturday, July 21, 2001 in Mount Pleasant.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 24 at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Joe Perkins will officiate. Interment will be in Naples Cemetery.

Mrs. Carlton was born July 16, 1914 in Naples. She was a retired employee of Day and Zimmerman and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a life-long resident of Naples.

She is survived by her grandchildren Bruce Lancaster of Baltimore, Md., Andrea Lancaster of Houston, Michael Lancaster of Bay Town; great-grandchildren Michelle Lancaster, Alex Lancaster, both of Baytown. She was preceded in death by her husband Claude; children Claudette and Tommy.

Davis

LONGVIEW - Lillie Zelmodene “Dene” Wade Davis, 71, of Longview, died Monday, July 16, 2001 at a Longview hospital.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 19 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1700 Blueridge Parkway in Longview. Bishop Mike Hill officiated. Interment was in Kelsey Cemetery under the direction of Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home in Gilmer. Pallbearers will be Delton Davis, William Bates, Gary Duncan, Clifton Duncan, Ronnie Duncan, Bob Davis, Jim Davis, Michael Ward and Landon Ward.

Mrs. Davis was born April 25, 1930 in Pittsburg. After graduating from Pittsburg High School, she attended nursing school in Dallas, then began her career of 20 years at Pittsburg Medical and Surgical Hospital. She married Hilton Davis Aug. 13, 1953 and moved to Longview in 1969 where she worked with her husband, and sister and brother-in-law, Chessa and Harold Dixon, at Thriftee Food Store until it was sold in 1982. She was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served as Relief-Society, Primary and Sunday School teachers. She served in the Genealogy Library and was the church librarian for many years. She was a member of the Lucky Square dance club in Kilgore.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years Hilton Davis; children Delton Davis of Tyler, Joycelyn Ward of Longview, Tamara Zimmerman of Nederland; sisters Verda Duncan of Talco, Chessa Dixon of Longview; sister-in-law Nova D. Wade of Pittsburg; grandchildren Daniel, Michael Shawna and Landon Ward, Zachary Aaron, Makinzie, Casside, and Jacob Zimmerman, great-granddaughter Lillian Ward. She was preceded in death by her daughter Shawna Dene Davis in 1969; granddaughter Tamira in 1990.

Dudley

Agnes Dudley, 92, of Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, July 15, 2001 at Titus Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Friday, July 20 at Mt. Gilmore Baptist Church. The Rev. J.L. Webster officiated. Interment was in Searcy Cemetery in Mount Pleasant, under the direction of Tumey Mortuary. Pallbearers were Jimmy Dudley, Victor Dudley, Tilmer Johnson Jr., Tawaski Johnson, Melvin Chism, Vincent Hurndon, Daniel Washington and Robert Jackson. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the church.

Mrs. Dudley was born Jan. 10, 1909 in Cass County, the daughter of William (Bail) and Ellen (McCary) McGraw. She was affiliated with Mount Gilmore Baptist Church and was a housewife.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law James and Doris Dudley of Mount Pleasant; daughter Mary Ellen Johnson of Mount Pleasant; eight grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joe L. Dudley; son Joe L. Dudley Jr.; nephew Leroy Mitchell; two brothers and two sisters.

Gallagher

DAINGERFIELD - Dora Idola Gallagher, 90, of Daingerfield, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001 at Texarkana Nursing Center.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 19 at Clark Cemetery under the direction of Nail-Haggard Funeral Home. The Rev. Chris Morgan officiated.

Mrs. Gallagher was born Saturday, Nov. 5, 1910 in Minden, La. She was a Baptist and a homemaker.

She is survived by her sons, Ron Gallagher of Camden, Ark. and Don Gallagher of Daingerfield; sister, Aurah VanDusen Garrison of Okmulgee, Okla.; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband H.R. Gallagher.

Kirby

MOUNT VERNON - Clell C. Kirby, 73, of Mount Vernon, died Saturday, July 14, 2001 at his home.

Funeral services were on Thursday, July 19 at 2 p.m., at Sam Harvey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Bro. Wayne McKay, Bro. John West and Bro. Henry Suche officiated. Interment was in Mount Vernon Cemetery under the direction of Sam Harvey Funeral Home . Pallbearers were Homer Browning, Bill Butler, Jack Gray, Allen Lockaby, Bill McCutchen, Jake Narramore, Johnny Mack Owens and Joe Young. Honorary pallbearers were Harrell Broach, Earl Burns, Robert Crooks, Ken Greer, Rex Mars, Billy Mac Rhoades, Curtis Rhoades, Milton Rhoades, Max Rutledge, Charles Smedley, Sam Speed and Ron Staggs.

Mr. Kirby was born March 7, 1928 in Titus County, the son of Ed and Alma Clay Kirby. He was a member of Meadow Park Baptist Church of Mount Vernon and a former member of First Baptist Church of Winfield for 41 years. He served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a former employee of American Petrofina of Mount Pleasant for 40 years and was employed by the City of Mount Pleasant until he retired in 1995. He was a member of the Joy Bells Quartet.

He is survived by his wife Eloise Fuquay Stroman Kirby; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Robert Carraway of Sulphur Springs and Konnie and Jacky Robertson of Mount Pleasant; his stepchildren, Mike and Sharon Stroman of Mount Vernon, Jan and Wesley Rychilk of Mount Pleasant; his grandchildren, Kelly and Jeff Post, Keena and Davey Mosley, all of Sulphur Springs; five step-grandchildren, Crystal Perkins of Mount Pleasant, Steven Stroman of Mount Vernon, Beverly Rychlik of Waco, Bran Rychlik, Chad Rychlik, both of Mount Pleasant; a great-granddaughter Alyssa Post of Sulphur Springs; a step-great granddaughter Chandler Perkins of Mount Pleasant; two brothers, Harold Kirby of Sulphur Springs and Joe Kirby of Mount Vernon; five sisters, Almeada Price of Cypress Springs, Imogene Avery of Kilgore, Lillian Holder of Mount Pleasant, Billie Smith of Fort Worth, Winnadean Sagona of Saint Petersburg, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Billie South Kirby; a brother, Cyril Kirby and two sisters, Letha Smith and Sarah Peacock.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cypress Basin Hospice.

Lankford

PITTSBURG - Vada Lankford, 79, of Pittsburg, died Friday, July 20, 2001 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 22 at First Baptist Church in Pittsburg. The Revs. Steve Packer and Kyle Smith officiated. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home. Pallbearers wereCasey Lankford, Josh Lankford, Jeremy Lankford, Craig Lankford, Chase Lankford and Arron Rouse.

Mrs. Lankford was born March 28, 1922 in Cullman, Ala. She was a retired seamstress and was affiliated with First Baptist Church in Pittsburg.

She is survived by her husband George Lankford of Pittsburg; sons and daughters-in-law Gary and Becky Lankford of Bloomburg, Roger and Cindy Lankford of Pittsburg, Stephen Lankford of Longview, David Lankford of Pittsburg; brother and sister-in-law George and Kay Mitchell of Guntersville, Ala.; sisters and brothers-in-law Peggy and Calvin Nowles of Arab, Ala., Betty and Gene Burden of Baileyton, Ala., Ann and Talmage Talley of Fairview, Ala., Bill Wright of Cullman, Ala.; seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Ada Lou Mitchell.

Lawrence

MINEOLA - Jonathan Lawrence, 55, of Mineola, died Saturday, July 14, 2001 at a Tyler hospital.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 17 at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church under the direction of Beaty Funeral Home in Mineola. Fr. Bernard Boteju will officiate.

Mr. Lawrence was born Aug. 6, 1945 in Quitman, the son of Owen C. Lawrence and Mattie Jewel Reed. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a pharmaceutical degree. He was a pharmacist at Neel’s Pharmacy in Quitman and at Medical Center Family Pharmacy in Mount Pleasant. He served 18 years in the Navy, retiring as a commander. He received the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal with a Bronze Star, Sea Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon with Two Stars. He was a member of Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Mineola.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Lawrence of Mineola; one daughter, Adrienne Dean Cates of Plano; one brother, Owen Lawrence of Quitman; four step-brothers, Jerry Van Dusen of Houston, Walter Van Dusen of Mesquite, Billy Van Dusen of Odessa and Kenneth Van Dusen of Grand Prairie; one sister, Martha Joe Morris of Odessa and one grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Lawrence.
