Elena Garcia, 56, of Victoria, died Sunday, June 11, 2000.

She was born Aug. 17, 1943, in Victoria, to the late Roman and Felipa Figueroa Garcia. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church.

Survivors: sister, Simona Garcia of San Antonio; brothers, Joe Garcia of Lockhart, James Garcia of Willis and Catarino Garcia of Bay City.

Preceded in death by: parents; brothers, Luis Garcia and Pablo Garcia.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. today at Artero Memorial Chapels.

A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home chapel.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, the Rev. Victor Scocco officiating.

Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Artero Memorial Chapels, Victoria, 575-3212.

Bessie Marie Kent

SARGENT -- Bessie Marie Edwards Kent, 73, of Sargent, and formerly of Tyler, died Sunday, June 11, 2000.

She was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Jourdanton, to the late James Franklin and Ruby Lee  Taylor Edwards. She was a retired secretary at the Tyler Courier Times and Morning Telegraph Newspaper after 20 years of service. She was a Baptist and a member of VFW Post No. 2412 Ladies Auxiliary of Sargent.

Survivors: daughter, Karen Kay Kent Smoot of Sargent; sister, Joyce Groll of Victoria; and three grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: husband, Marcus Ted Kent Jr.; son, Oren Franklin Kent; parents.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at  Taylor Brothers Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Donald Reed officiating.

Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tyler.  Taylor Brothers Funeral Home, Bay City, (979) 245-4613.

Irvin Glenn Parr Jr.
Tuesday, June 13, 2000

SCHULENBURG -- Irvin Glenn "I.G." Parr Jr., 89, of Schulenburg, died Saturday, June 10, 2000.

He was born Nov. 9, 1910, in Sabinal, to the late Irvin Glenn and Annie Lou Green Parr Sr. He was a plant supervisor at ARCO Oil Refinery and a Methodist. He was a member of the Former Students of  Texas A&M organization and a former member of the Gonzales Rotary Club.

Survivors: wife, Billie W. Parr; daughters, Bonnie Florio of Highlands and Dana Burns of Austin; son, Donald R.  Schmidt of Livingston; and grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents; three brothers.

Services will be noon today at Smith Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Nell Linebarger officiating.

Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Flatonia. Smith Funeral Home, Flatonia, (361) 865-3311.

Curby Lee Harkless Sr.

BAY CITY -- Curby Lee Harkless Sr., 60, of Bay City, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000.

He was born June 23, 1939, in Bay City, to Cody Davis Harkless and the late Mayfield Harkless.

Survivors: wife, Edna M. Harkless of Cedar Lane; daughters, Valerie D. Austin of Cedar Lane, Andrea L. Harkless of Carson,  Calif., Lois E. Harkless of Missouri City and Ywanda D. Woodard of Stafford; son, Curby Lee Harkless Jr. of Bay City; mother; sisters, Mildred Webb of Oakland,  Calif., Carol Harkless, Mary Moses and Ella Newsome, all of Houston and Betsy Lemon of Bay City; brother, Aaron Harkless of Houston; and ten grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: father; sister, Germalean Collins and Joyce Wright; brothers, Preston Harkless and Mitchell Harkless.

Visitation will be noon to 1 p.m. today at First Berean Baptist Church in Cedar Lane.

Services will be 1 p.m. today at the church, the Rev. Murry Griggs and Andrew Floyd officiating.

Burial will be at Edison Cemetery in Cedar Lane. Green's Mortuary, Bay City, (979) 245-3489.

Fred J. Jaskinia

CESTOHOWA -- Fred Julian Jaskinia, 71, of Cestohowa, died Sunday, June 11, 2000.

He was born July 26, 1928, in Cestohowa, to the late John Frank and Emelia Moczygemba Jaskinia. He was a yard supervisor and mechanic at Newell Recycling Company in San Antonio for 47 years and a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Cestohowa. He was a member of the Men's Club and President of Catholic Life Branch No. 29.

Survivors: wife, Florence Waclawczyk Jaskinia; sons, Alvin Jaskinia of Floresville, Timothy Jaskinia of Poth and John R. Jaskinia of Falls City; sisters, Anne Jaskinia Tallarico of Laurel, Md., and Eleanor Jaskinia Kotara of San Antonio; and four grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents; brother, Frank Jaskinia.

Prayer services will be 7 p.m. tonight at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.

A rosary will be 7:45 p.m. tonight at the church.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Gregory Sawicki officiating.

EDNA -- William "Willie" Eugene Nickel, 73, of Edna, died Monday, June 12, 2000.

He was born April 15, 1927, in  Jackson County, to the late Ulysses S. Grant and Maggie L. Bielek Nickel. He was a retired potman at Alcoa Aluminum and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors: daughter, Doris Rodriguez of Elgin; sons, Randy Nickel and Bobby Nickel, both of Elgin; sisters, Lorene Terry, Mabel Rogers and Minnie Yendrey, all of Edna; Mary Graham of Grand Prairie and Annie May Howarth of Plano; and nine grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: wife, Annie Lucille Garvel Nickel; sons, Mike Nickel and Charlie Nickel; parents; sister, Ginger Kessler; brother, Woodrow Nickel.

A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. tonight at Slavik Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Saint Agnes Catholic Church of Edna, the Rev. Michael O'Shaughnessy officiating.

NIXON -- Mary Magdalena Ruiz Torres, 53, of Nixon, died Sunday, June 11, 2000.

She was born Aug. 23, 1946, in Runge, to Juan F. Ruiz of Nixon and the late Consuelo Ramirez Ruiz. She was a nurse's aid at DeTar Hospital and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She was a member of LULAC and a former Nixon City Councilwoman for eight years.

Survivors: husband, Pat Torres; daughter, Tanya Torres of Nixon; sisters, Esther Garza of Kenedy, Martha Reyes and Lidia Ruiz, both of Abilene and Ramona Tagle of Seagraves; brothers, Israel Ruiz of Meadow and Josue Ruiz of Seagraves.

Preceded in death by: mother; sisters, Elida Ruiz and Noemi Garza; brothers, Juan F. Ruiz Jr., David Ruiz and Ismael Ruiz.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today at Finch Funeral Chapel.

Prayer services will be 6 p.m. tonight at the funeral home chapel.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Nixon, the Revs. Domingo Torres and Rene Amaya officiating.

HALLETTSVILLE -- Florian K. Cristanelli, 74, of Hallettsville, died Monday, June 12, 2000.

He was born July 8, 1925, in Norway, Mich., to the late Louis and Henrietta Young Cristanelli. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Hallettsville and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors: wife, Catherine Theresa Ehlers Cristanelli; daughters, Christine Cox of Gatesville and Kathy Morrison of Pasadena; son, Louis Cristanelli of Alvin; sisters, Mary Vecillio of Green Bay, Wis.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: parents; brothers, Ernest Cristanelli and Louis Cristanelli; grandson, J.W. Morrison.

Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. today at Kubena Funeral Home chapel.

BEEVILLE -- Rubie Krauskopf, 80, of Beeville, died Sunday, June 11, 2000.

She was born March 11, 1920, in DeWitt County, to the late Joseph Lawrence and Malinda Ann Tolbert Ckodre. She was a graduate of Cabeza School and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was a St. Joseph Parish Council member, and a member of the Altar Society and the Republican Women of Bee County. She was a homemaker and a Dental Assistant to Dr. Dudley Braly, DDS.

Survivors: sister, Ruth Dunpick of San Antonio.

Preceded in death by: husband, Emil Krauskopf; parents; sister, Mrs. Emmet "Minnie" Wishert; brothers, Ed Ckodre, Emil Ckodre and Weldon "Doc" Ckodre.

A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. tonight at Galloway and Sons Funeral Home chapel.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Beeville, the Rev. Patrick Donohoe offiiciating.
