EMORY HUGGINS

Emory Huggins, 94, of Plainview passed away Sunday, February 25, 2007 in Covenant Hospital Plainview.

He was born July 25, 1912 in Carrollton to John D. and Leota Walter Huggins.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2007 in the First United Methodist Church Chapel in Plainview. Burial was held in the Plainview Memorial Park by Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

AGAPITO MARTINEZ

Agapito (Chico) Martinez, 74, of Floydada died on February 21, 2007 in Lubbock at  Texas Tech University Medical Center.

Mr. Martinez was born on March 24, 1932 in Realitos, TX to the late Filiberto Martinez and Petra Alvarado. Mr. Martinez, enjoyed working. He worked for Floydada Coop Gin for 20 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Filiberto, and Petra Alvarado; one brother Agustin Martinez; one Sister Josefina Martinez; and one brother-in-law Alfredo Quintanilla.

He is survived by his wife, Elvira; two brothers, Paz Martinez, and Castulo Martinez, both of Corpus Christi; three sisters, Felicita and husband Nick Fonseca of Delta, OH., Luz Quintanilla of Kingsville, and Maria and husband Juan Martinez of Corpus Christi.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 26, 2007 at Templo Getsemani Assembly of God Church, with Reverend Ray Gonzales officiating. Burial will be in Floydada Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada.

C. N. DUDE WALDING

C.N. Dude Walding, 88, of Floydada passed away on February 26, 2007, at his residence in Lubbock.

He was born on December 6, 1918 South of Floydada,  Texas to the late James Irvin and Manda Lu Walding. Dude was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He farmed in Floyd County for 50 years. He retired in 1989 and moved to Lubbock.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilary Lee, two sisters, Lena Millican, and Lydia Walding, and one brother, Lavern (Buck) Walding and a granddaughter Danja Chickie .

He is survived by his sons: Brynn, of Lubbock, and Douglas, of Floydada; one daughter, Dana, and husband, Spencer, of Lubbock; and three grandchildren, Chauncey and Sonya, of Lubbock, Heather of Tempe, AZ; and two great-grandchildren Kayliegh and Tess.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 28, 2007. Burial will be at the Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada, with Rev. Les Hall officiating. Arrangements will be under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada, TX.

The family suggests memorials be made to the American Heart Assoc., 4630 50th St., Lubbock, TX 79414.

LU COLSON ALLISON

Lu Colson Allison, 60, died March 16, 2007 at Covenant Medical Center. She was born August 18, 1946 in Wellington to Cecil and Ada Colson.

She was raised and attended schools in Lockney. She attended South Plains College.

She married Tom Allison on April 17, 1981. She was an avid animal lover who showed, groomed and bred dogs.

Lu was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Allison; brother, Jim Colson and son, Edward Stone.

She is survived by her sister, Sharon Galloway of Floydada; and seven children, Robert Davis of Lubbock, Teresa Waldroup of Houston, Anna Kreft and Katherine House, both of Lubbock, Shane Shields of Denton and Kristi Kreft and Rachel Casas, both of Lubbock. She had 14 grandchildren.

She requested no service. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be sent to Lubbock Meals on Wheels.

DONALD O. CHEEK

Funeral services for Donald O. Cheek were held Friday, March 23, 2007 in Joshua,  Texas.

He was born December 28, 1935 to the late Doc and Eva Lena Cheek.

Mr. Cheek, a former Floydada resident, was owner of Don Cheek Real Estate in Joshua.

He is survived by five sons, Derek of Floydada, Jett and Lane of Denton, Don of Grapevine and Laron of The Colony. Also surviving are two sisters and eighteen grandchildren.

PAT STEPHENS

Services for Pat Hennessee Stephens were held March 10, 2007 at Abilene Bible Church. Internment was held at Buffaloe Gap Cemetery.

She passed away March 7, 2007. Pat was born in the Harmony Community on October 16, 1931.

She was a 1950 graduate of Floydada High School. Survivors include three sisters, Virginia Prichard of Lubbock, Lila Youngblood of La Mirada, CA and Jewel  Taylor of Tulare, CA; five nephews, one niece and two grandchildren.

DR. RENE I. LOPEZ

Dr. Rene I. Lopez, 66, devoted husband and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away April 10, 2007.

Dr. Lopez was born in El Salvador, Central America. He graduated from the University of El Salvador School of Medicine in 1966. He served his residency in general surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

Dr. Lopez opened his practice and clinic in Floydada on June 3, 1986 where he practiced general surgery, plastic surgery, emrgency room medicine and family medicine. He was on the staff of Caprock Hospital District until February 6, 1991. Dr. Lopez was Founder and Director of Clinica Las Americas started in 1992. He was a member of the American Medical Association.

Dr. Lopez is survived by his wife of 39 years, Maricruz Lopez; daughters, Roxana Hernandez and husband, Noel, Marieta Canizalez and husband, Reynaldo and Bonnie Quinn and husband, Kevin; sons, Gustavo Marroquin and Dr. Rene I. Lopez, Jr. and wife, Maribel; grandchildren, Jhody Marroquin, Liana Mejia, LCpl. Rene Mejia, USMC, Sarahi Canizalez, Christian Canizalez, Andres Canizalez, Alexandria Quinn, Kevin Patrick Quinn, Analia Quinn, Carla Marroquin, Cindy Marroquin, Gustavo Marroquin, Roxana Marroquin, Madison Lopez, Alexander Lopez and Andrew Lopez; great-granddaughter, Briana Alvarez; brothers, Nelson Lopez and wife, Marina and Ibsen Lopez and wife, Annie.

Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2007. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2007 at Ars Chapel of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Houston, TX. Services were under the direction of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home with interment following in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

EUNICE MAE ROSS

Eunice Mae Colvin Ross, 92, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2007 in Carillon House in Lubbock.

Services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2007 in the First United Methodist Church in Quitaque with the Rev. John Dorn officiating. Burial was in the Flomot Memorial Park at Flomot under the direction of Chancellor Funeral Home of Quitaque.

Mae was born October 22, 1914 in Jack County  Texas to George James and Eunice Julia Tirey Colvin. The family moved from Jack County to Turkey,  Texas in 1914 when Mae was 3 months old. She married Sam D. Ross in Matador,  Texas on January 1, 1939.

She attended school in Turkey.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, George Ray Colvin, Sr.

She lived in Flomot community until 1969 at which time she moved to Lubbock and worked for the Dunlap Company 20 years.

She is survived by one daughter, June Ross Hale and her husband, James of Floydada; one son, Jimmy M. Ross and his wife, Velda, of Quitaque; grandson, Clinton and his wife, Dara Ware, and sons, Cody and Clay; granddaughter, Lisa Ware Baldwin, and sons, Ross and Zach Baldwin, of Floydada; granddaughters Julie Ross, of Amarillo, Janet and Josh Brooks and daughter, Braylee of Turkey, and Sammie Dee and Cory Varnell and son, Hunter of Quitaque.

Pallbearers were: great-grandsons: Cody Ware, Clay Ware, Ross Baldwin and Zach Baldwin; and grand-sons-in-law, Josh Brooks and Cory Varnell. Honorary pallbearers were: Clinton Ware, George Colvin, James Hale, Murray Wayne Morrison, Verlon Hamilton and W.R. Ware.

Mommie Mae, as she was known to family, is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

The family requests that memorials be made to your favorite charity.

KEVIN STRINGER

Kevin Stringer, 33, of Floydada passed away on April 20, 2007 at Mangold Memorial Hospital in Lockney, TX.

He was born on June 22, 1973 in Plainview, TX. to Stinson Earl Stringer and Hazel Virginia Hovarter Stringer. Kevin enjoyed farming. He was a rancher, welder and a truck driver.

He is survived by his parents, Stinson and Virginia Stringer; one brother, Eric Stringer; his wife, Kathy Stringer and children, Patrick Poteet, Haley Boyd and Ethan Boyd; his grandparents, Owen and Helen May and various aunts, uncles and cousins.

Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007 at the Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada. Reverend Anthony Sisemore officiated. Following graveside services a Memorial Service was held at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Floydada. Arrangements were under the direction of Moore-Rose- White Funeral Home of Floydada, TX.

The family suggests memorials be made, in lieu of flowers, to a favorite charity.
