Sandersville, Miss. - Frances Christine Welborn, 88, of Sandersville, Miss. died Saturday, July 3, 2004, at Archers Personal Care Home in Sandersville, Miss.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 5 at Memory Chapel in Laurel, Miss., with the Rev. Aaron Parker and the Rev. Mike Powell officiating, interment following in Sharon Cemetery. Pallbearers were her grandsons.
Mrs. Welborn was a member of the Sharon Missionary Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her two sons, Herb Welborn and Frank Welborn both of Mount Pleasant; two daughters, Pat Myrick of Sandersville, Miss., and Jane Sparks of Lake Jackson; two brothers, Glen Stewart of Laurel, Miss., and Charles Ray Stewart of Meridian, Miss.; one sister, Marie Harrelson of Laurel, Miss.; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Welborn in 1995.

Martin
Ila Jean Martin, 76, of Mount Pleasant died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 in Mount Pleasant.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 22 at Curry-Welborn Funeral Home with Scott Darby officiating. Interment will be in the Talco Cemetery under the direction of Curry-Welborn Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Wayne Martin, Adam Martin, John Muirhead, Gary Halub, Michael Whitney and Travis Vanhoose. Honorary pallbearers are Timmy and Tommy Martin, and the Nursing Staff at Pleasant Springs Nursing Home.
Mrs. Martin was born June 27, 1928 in Titus County, the daughter of Farris and Lula Whitney. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Talco.
She is survived by her three son and daughters-in-law, Gary and Coy Cameron Martin of Mount Pleasant, Randy and Diana Martin of Pittsburg, and Ricky and Amalia Martin of Scroggins; daughter and son-in-law, Mona and Donnie Johnson of Boxelder; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Jo Whitney of Talco and Albert and Clara Whitney of Mount Pleasant; sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Charles Vanhoose of Mount Pleasant; 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Dale Martin; son, Johnny C. Martin; brothers, Farris Whitney Jr. and Jerry L. Whitney; and her parents.
The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

White
Lottie Hazel White, 71, of Mount Pleasant died Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at Pleasant Springs Nursing Home.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 23 at Nevills Chapel Baptist Church with Bro. Glenn Griffith officiating. Interment will be in the Greenhill Cemetery under the direction of Curry-Welborn Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Jerry Cook, Donnie Philfer, Durward Harris, Clem Poag, Dennis Tackett and Lester Poag. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Murphy, Frank Lee and Neuman Surratt.
Mrs. White was born May 5, 1933 in Titus County, the daughter of Edd and Nora Dunn. She was a housewife.
She is survived by her husband, Billy D. White of Mount Pleasant; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Michael and Martha White of Mount Pleasant, Mark and Sandra White of McKinney and Daniel and Jeanette White of Tyler; brother, Elvis Dunn of Mount Pleasant; granddaughters, Robyn White, Regina White, Elizabeth White, Alyssa White and Allison White.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Lovis, Leroy, Travis, and John Dunn; and sister, Lillie May James.
The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cypress Basin Hospice or the Gideons for Bibles.

Hamblin
Margaret Kate Hamblin, infant, of Landstuhl, Germany died Saturday, July 24 at St. Johannis Krankenhaus Hospital in Germany.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4 at Erman Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Gage officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Upshur County.
Baby Hamblin was born on July 24, 2004, the daughter of Adam and Katherine Hamblin, currently stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany.
She is survived by her parents; grandmother, Nancy Durham of Linden; grandparents, David and Rebecca Hamblin of Upshur County; great-grandparents Bob and Loreta Durham of Linden; great-grandparents, A.D. and Barbara Henson of Upshur County; great-great-grandparents, Ed and Margaret Monts of Upshur County; aunt, Anna Hamblin of Longview and uncle, Owen Echols of Cass County.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Slaughter
MOUNT VERNON - Jean Slaughter, 76, of Mount Vernon died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at Mount Pleasant.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Walker officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Vernon City Cemetery under the direction of Harvey Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Ken Greer, Kelly Stretcher, Ed Joyce, David Norman, Leonard Van Gendt and Tony Sims.
Mrs. Slaughter was born Oct. 25, 1927 in Navasota, the daughter of Charles B. and Mildred Tribble Potts.
She is survived by her children, Ken Slaughter of Corinth and Nancy Monroe of Coppell; a brother, Charles Potts of Yukon, Okla.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Slaughter in 2002; her parents; and a son, Warren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund.

Nelson
LEESBURG - Bob Nelson, 84, of Leesburg died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 at his residence.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6 at Piney Grove Baptist Church in Piney Grove with Bro. Walter Allen officiating. Interment will be in the Piney Grove Cemetery in Upshur County under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Don Allen, David Allen, Stan Overstreet, Raymond Wetzel, Eric Campbell, and Wayland Lain. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Bob Murdock and Johnnie Estes.
Mr. Nelson was born on Dec. 4, 1919 in Upshur County, the son of Stanley Nelson and Lessie Smith Nelson. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He served in the United States Air Force for 31 years. He was a World War II veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Wilson Nelson of Leesburg; one son and daughter-in-law, R. Dalton and Dixie Nelson of Kingwood; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Enola Nelson and Hans Angress of Cotati, Calif., Rebecca Nelson and Ken Edwards of Queensland, Australia, and Velma Lillian Nelson of Sacramento, Calif.; six grandchildren, Rachal Nunes, Jess Angress, David Allen, Don Allen, Bethany Nelson, and Anna Nelson; great-grandchildren, Meredith Allen, Lidia Allen, and Lauren Nunes; two sisters, Talma Overstreet and Lois Campbell both of Piney Grove; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive visitors from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Sanders
Edwin Sanders, 89, of Mount Pleasant died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, in Mount Pleasant.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8 at Bates-Cooper Chapel with Dr. Kim officiating. Interment will be in the Greenhill Cemetery under the direction of Bates-Cooper Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be his nephews and nephew-in-laws.
Mr. Sanders was born Sept. 3, 1914 in Titus County, the son of Steve and Dovie Wood Sanders. He was a self-employed rancher and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He married Willie Mae "Billie " Sanders on Dec. 16, 1936.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Willie Mae "Billie" Sanders of Mount Pleasant; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jerry and Donita Sanders of Fenton, Mich. and one grandson, Daniel Sanders of Fenton, Mich.; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Samantha and three brothers, Guy, Fealin and Pat Sanders.
There will be a viewing from 5-7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Buchanan
BURLESON - Former Sugar Hill resident Stephen Buchanan, of Burleson, along with his daughter and son-n-law, Lezli and Byron Graham, granddaughter, Kasey Graham and grandson, Cade Graham, all died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004.
Services will be held at 1p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10 at the Family Cathedral of Praise, 790 Windbell Circle, Mesquite, Texas 75149. Interment will be in Laurel Oaks Memorial Park.
Family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Family Cathedral of Praise.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15 at the Sugar Hill Community Center. Mr. Buchanan was the first Fire Chief of the Sugar Hill Fire Department and helped lay the ground work to acquire their first fire engine.

Jeffery
John A. "Pistol" Jeffery, 52, of Mount Pleasant died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004 in Dallas.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at Blunders Creek Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant with the Rev. John M. Brooks officiating. Interment will be in the Blunders Creek Cemetery under the direction of Tumey Mortuary. Pallbearers will be Rodney Jones, Donald Lewis, Kelvin Cannon, Kenneth Lewis, Undra Bates and David Lewis. Honorary pallbearers are Marvin Jeffery, Vincent Washington, Anthony Jeffery, Kelvin Heath, Jonathan Jeffery and Charles Hudson.
Mr. Jeffery was born Aug. 28, 1951 in Mount Pleasant the son of Maceo and Dollie Lewis Jeffery. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marines where he served as a sergeant.
He is survived by his mother, Dollie Finley of Dallas; two daughters; four sons; nine grandchildren; four brothers, Charles Jeffery of Las Vegas, Nev., Paul Lewis of Dallas, Marvin Jeffery and Lil John Jeffery both of Mount Pleasant; four sisters, Darlene Jeffery, Patricia Johnson and Delores Lewis, all of Dallas, and Jeanette Jeffery of Mount Pleasant; two uncles, Bill Jeffery of Mount Pleasant; and Charles Lewis of Dallas; two aunts, Ethel Lewis and Anna Lewis both of Mount Pleasant; one great-aunt, Ressie Hurrington of Mount Pleasant; three nieces, nine nephews and a host of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father, Maceo Claude Jeffery and grandmother, Mollie Lewis.
No formal visitation with the family is planned, however, Mr. Jeffery will lie in state at the funeral home from 10a.m.- p.m. Friday.

Richardson
PITTSBURG - Margie Richardson, 82, of Pittsburg died Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, at Pittsburg Nursing Center.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at Macedonia Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Nix officiating. Interment will be under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
Mrs. Richardson was born March 7, 1922 in Titus County. She was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. She was a beautician.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Linda Richardson of Pittsburg, and Charles and Veeta Richardson of Daingerfield; daughter-in-law, Joyce Richardson of Pittsburg; eight grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Westly Dewitt Richardson on Sept. 15, 1983; her parents; and a son, Mike Richardson.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Bob Robert Grisham
Nov. 4, 1942 — May 25, 2001

NORMANGEE — Services for Bob Robert Grisham, 58, of North Zulch are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Cozart Funeral Chapel in Normangee.

Bro. Dale Evans will officiate. Burial will be in Allphin Cemetery in Midway.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Grisham died Friday in Madisonville.

He was born in Midway and was retired as a county commissioner of Madison County. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Grace Baptist Church in North Zulch.

Survivors include his wife, Rerhette Grisham of North Zulch; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Beverly Grisham of Angleton and Bobby Jack and Wanda Grisham; a step-son, Michael Dobbs of Normangee; three step-daughters and a son-in-law, Heather and Dean Rose of Madisonville, Stacy Dobbs of North Zulch and Mildred Rich of Medina; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Grisham of Fulshear and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Grisham of Jarrel; a sister, Betty Carroll; his mother, Minnie Grisham; and five grandchildren.

Marjorie DeMaret Hicks
Aug. 7, 1915 — May 24, 2001

FRANKLIN — Services for Marjorie DeMaret Hicks, 85, of Franklin are set for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Franklin United Methodist Church.

Chuck Weber and Bobby E. Sullivan, both of Franklin, will officiate. Burial will be in the Franklin Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mrs. Hicks died Thursday in Bryan.

She was born in Franklin and attended the College of Industrial Arts in Denton. She retired as the district clerk of Robertson County in 1991 after 17 years of service. She was a lifelong member of the Franklin United Methodist Church and was a member of one of Robertson Counties earliest families.
She was also a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton C. Hicks.

Survivors include five children and their spouses, Charles F. “Fred” Eden of Pasadena, John C. and Deborah Hicks of Franklin, Robert P. and Jetta Hicks of Austin, Mary Kay and Charles Breckenridge of Dallas and Suzanne Gilles of College Station; a sister-in-law, Margaret DeMaret of Waco; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Franklin Cemetery

Steve Joseph Nemec
March 25, 1938 — May 25, 2001

Services for Steve Joseph Nemec, 63, of Smetana are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan.

Monsignor John McCaffrey of St. Joseph Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Smetana Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mr. Nemec died Friday in Shady Oaks Nursing Home.

He was born in Brazos County and was a lifelong resident of Smetana. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the K.J.T. He formed the volunteer fire department for Precinct 4 and was retired from Southwest Baking. He served in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Regina and Dan Fore of Bryan, two nieces and a nephew.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or Hospice Brazos Valley.

Valon Richard ‘Val’ Stephens
Oct. 30, 1918 — May 24, 2001

CALDWELL — Services for Valon Richard “Val” Stephens, 82, of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Elizabeth Lutheran Church in Caldwell.

The Rev. Bill Gaskamp will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery .
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mr. Stephens died Thursday at his home.

He was born in Caldwell County and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was the semi-retired owner of Stephens Service Company in Caldwell.

Survivors include his wife, Floy Savannah Bates Stephens of Caldwell; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Douglas Val and Charmane Stephens and David Richard Stephens, allof Caldwell; a sister, Geraldine Allen of New Braunfels; a sister-in-law, Lazell Kornegay of Caldwell; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Elizabeth Lutheran Church.
