Andrews

J.W. Andrews, 71, of Mount Pleasant and formerly of Farmington, New Mexico, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 at Bates-Cooper-Robison Funeral Chapel with Bro. Jamie Duncan officiating. Active pallbearers were be Emitt Kennedy, Cotton Cook, Stevie Adkison, J.W., Newman, Joey Bynum, Jack Cordrae, James (Newt) Newton. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Priefert, PeeWee Smith, Hollis LaRoe.

Mr. Andrews was born Dec. 10, 1926 in Cookville. He was the owner of Andrews Company. Mr. Andrews lived in Farmington, New Mexico from 1956 to 1991, during which time he retired and moved back to Mount Pleasant. He enjoyed horses and trail riding, and he was a life member of the Elks Club and Missouri Fox Trotting Association. He served in the Army Merchant Marines.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years Nona Bob (Goodwin) Andrews of Mount Pleasant; son and daughter-in-law, Brett and Sondra Andrews of Mount Pleasant; daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Randy Blackmon of Farmington, New Mexico; grandchildren, Brandi Blackmon, Misty Andrews, Brooke Lee, Melanie Andrews, Benjy Blackmon; great-grandchildren, Taylor Blackmon, Ashtyn Blackmon, Jobe Blackmon; father, John Waylon Andrew of Cookville; mother Bessie (Cook) Carlisle of Kermit; brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Murriel Andrews of Naples; brother and sister-in-law, Elvis and Becky Andrews of Evansville, Indiana.

Brown

Services for Mrs. Lelia A. Kelly Brown, 87 of Mount Pleasant were held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997 at Cortrell C.M.E. Church.

Officiating was the Rev. C. E. Mitchel. Burial was in Forest Lawn Memorial Park under the direction of Turner Bros. Funeral Home.

Mrs. Brown died Monday, Dec. 15 in Mount Pleasant.

A retired teacher, she was born May 7, 1910 in Pittsburg. She was a member of the Adeline Study Club and the Retired Teachers Association . She also was also a member of the Cortrell Chapel C.M.E. Church, serving on the Stewardess Board and in the Missionary Society. In addition, she was a Sunday School teacher and pianist.

Survivors include nephew, William Kelly and his wife of Scaltle Wash.'great nephew, Charles Bryd Kelly and Stephanie; sisterin-law and brother-in-law, Cordia and Sherman Jones of Tyler; cousins, Bobbie Bell of Mount Pleasant, Odelia Washington of Shreveport, La. and Willis S. Cooper of Dallas and a companion Edvernell Davenport of Mount Pleasant.

Buckner

PITTSBURG - Wanda Carol Buckner, 52, of Pittsburg died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997 in New Boston.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23 at First Assembly of God in Gilmer with Pastor Bruce Wike officiating. Interment was at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart, Ark. Pallbearers were church members. Erman Smith Funeral Home in Pittsburg was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Bucker was born Oct. 28, 1945 in Humphrey, Ark. She moved to Pittsburg in 1978 from Waldren, Ark. She was affiliated with First Assembly of God, and she was a housewife/mother.

Survivors include spouse Larry Buckner of Pittsburg; father Cecil Bloom of Waldren, Ark.; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Lisa Buckner of Little Rock, Ark; daughter Renee Shirley of Pittsburg; two granddaughters, Brittany and Courtney Shirley; sister Dell Hill of Stuttgart, Ark. She was preceded in death by her mother, Geraldine Bloom.

Crain

IRVING - Rush Ernest Crain Jr., 77, of Irving, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997 at his home.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19 at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Irving with the Rev. Ryan Williams and the Rev. Steve Newton officiating. Interment was in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Crain was born Jan. 18, 1920 in Sikes, La., the son of Rush Ernest Crain Rr. and Thelma Colwell Crain. He retired in 1975 after 38 years as a regional director for the Small Business Administration in Dallas. He was affiliated with Colonial Baptist Church in Irving, and he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in the Pacific in World War II. He married Elva F. Couch Crain on Oct. 16, 1949 in Cedar Hill.

Survivors include wife Elva Crain of Irving; daughter Sally Newton and husband Steve of Mount Pleasant; son Andrew Crain and wife Linda of Grapevine; grandchildren, Mark, Amy and Gregory Newton; Jason, Amanda and Eric Crain; sister LaVerne Hubert of Dallas; numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Colonial Baptist Church, 2241 West Rochelle, Irving, Texas 75062 or Family Hospice of Dallas, 1140 Empire Central, Suite 235, Dallas, Texas 75247.

Embrey

Eva Byrd Combs Embrey, 89, of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 1997 at Titus Regional Medical Center.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23 at Bates-Cooper-Robison-Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Doug Blackard and Bro. Gene Garner officiating. Interment was in Nevills Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Embrey was born Saturday, June 13, 1908 in Mount Pleasant. She was a homemaker, and she was affiliated with Church of Christ. She was married for more than 68 years to husband Wayne Lee Embrey, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include son Jerry Embrey of Allen; daughter-in-law Velda Embrey of Allen; son Gaylon Embrey of Quitman; daughter-in-law Ginger Embrey of Quitman; daughter Jeannette Goss of Mount Pleasant; son-in-law Elvis Goss of Mount Pleasant; 16 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mattie Oscar Combs and Tommie Bernice Stevens Combs; brother Hollis Combs; brother Curtis Combs; sister Vivienne Justiss.

Gholston

Jimmy Lee Gholston, 40, of Mount Pleasant died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 in Dallas.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22 at First Church of God in Christ with Elder A.C. Greenwood officiating. Interment was in Rivers Cemetery in Daingerfield. Tumey Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Gholston was born Feb. 9, 1957 in Mount Pleasant. He was a chauffeur for Limousine Co. in Dallas. He was affiliated with First Church of God in Christ, and he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam era. He attended Mount Pleasant High School.

Survivors include spouse Martha Gholston of Mount Pleasant; parents, Ruby and Henry T. Gallon of Mount Pleasant, Roy Lee Hall of Mount Pleasant; two sons, Abdolar Gholston of Mount Pleasant, Jimmy Lee Kimball of Dallas; two daughters, Muniekua Gholston of Mount Pleasant, Brittany Gholston of Dallas; nine brothers, Anthony Gallon, Tommy Gallon of Mount Pleasant, Alfred Gallon of Tyler, Ronald Hall of Florida, Richard Hall, Bobby Hall, Andy Hall, Kerry Harper, Clifton Connally all of Mount Pleasant; three sisters, Darlynn Brown, Chetina Aikins both of Mount Pleasant, Nicole Gallon of Garland; granddaughter, ShaQuayla Galloway of Mount Pleasant.

Herring

PITTSBURG - Era Mae Herring, 88, of Pittsburg died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 1997 at a nursing home.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsburg. Officiating was the Rev. Larry Rice. Burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas at 3 p.m.

Born Feb. 14, 1909 in Camp County, Mrs. Herring was the daughter of Alfred Lee Blount and Alice Kent Blount.

A retired sale executive with Wolfe Brothers, she had resided during her lifetime at Ennis, Garland and Pittsburg. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Garland and a Past Worthy Matron of the Easter Star.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Edward Russell of Pittsburg; two grandchildren and grandchildren-in-law, Mike and Sharon Russell and Diann and Randy Anderson and four great grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kristoffer Russell and Amanda and Angela Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, H. Leon Herring, who died in August 1990

Nunn

PITTSBURG - Ethel Nunn, 94, of Pittsburg, died Friday, Dec. 19, 1997 at East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg.

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21 at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Packer officiating. Interment was in Sand Hill Cemetery in Bowie County.

Mrs. Nunn was born Aug. 29, 1903 in Bowie County. She lived in Pittsburg for the past 30 years, and she was retired from Red River Arsenal. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include sister Edna Brison of Pittsburg; a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Nunn and parents, Eugene E. Canant and Ida McKeen Canant.

Parlington

MOUNT VERNON - Jo Ann Parlington, 59, of Mount Vernon died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997 at her residence.

Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 19 at Harvey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jack Gardner officiating. Interment was in Mount Vernon Cemetery.

Mrs. Parlington was born Oct. 19, 1938 in Dallas, the daughter of George and Lucille Adams.

Survivors include husband Phil Parlington of Mount Vernon; daughter Debbie Hubbard of Mount Vernon; son Danny Parlington of Grapevine; brother Larry Adams of Denham Springs, La.; parents of Denham Springs, La.; two grandchildren.

Rogers

LONGVIEW - Ge'Onna Rogers, 49, of Longview died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997 at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17 at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsburg with the Rev. Jeff Powers officiating. Interment was in Ebenezer Cemetery. The family served as pallbearers.

Mr. Rogers was born Nov. 18, 1948 in Paris, the son of John Mason Rogers and Talmadge Odelle Barnwell. He was a retired shift supervisor for Swepco. He lived in Longview for four years, moving from Pittsburg, and he was affiliated with Church of God.

Survivors include one son, Ge'Onna Edward Rogers of Longview; one daughter, Ginifir Rogers Rowell of Longview; one brother John Rogers Jr. of Arlington; three sisters, Trevella Monk of Dallas, Reda Davenport of Dallas, Delene Lee of Mount Pleasant; five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bessie O. Drahem

Dec. 27, 1909 — May 22, 2001

Services for Bessie O. Drahem, 91, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Elizabeth Lutheran Church in Caldwell.

Visitation will be from 7:30 a.m. until noon Thursday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral home in Caldwell.

Pastor William E. Gaskamp will officiate. Burial will be in the Caldwell Masonic Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mrs. Drahem died Tuesday at Sherwood Health Care in Bryan.

She was born in Burleson County. She was a homemaker and member of Elizabeth Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Julius Drahem.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Milton and Diane Drahem of Garland, Texas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and Paul Goforth of Nacogdoches, Delores and Perry Shirley of Bryan and Ruby and Eugene Culp of San Antonio; a brother, Leo Hein of Caldwell; a sister, Irene Tate of Houston; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elizabeth Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 675, Caldwell, TX 77836.

Thelma Katherine ‘Granny’ Springer

Oct. 29, 1921 — May 22, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Services for Thelma Katherine “Granny” Springer, 79, of Madisonivlle are set for 10 a.m. Friday at Madisonville Funeral Home. Lanier Stevens will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Rose Lawn Memorial Park in Seagoville, Texas.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Springer died Tuesday at the Madison St. Joseph Health Center.

She was born in Gainesville, Texas. She lived in Madisonville for the past 22 years and previously lived in Seagoville. She was a homemaker and a Pentecostal.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde L. Springer.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Jackie Springer of Madisonville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Macel Jeffries of Midway, Betty Jo and Jack Hanks of Dallas and Ruby and Charles Bone of Gun Barrell City, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Edith Springer of Madisonville; three brothers, Monroe Bennett, Clyde Bennett and Jack Bennett, all of Gainesville; two sisters, Faye Johnson of Gainesville and Wanda Walters of Ardmore, Okla.; nine grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Thomas Carman

Nov. 8, 1906 — May 21, 2001

Services for Thomas Carman, 94, of Bryan are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Restever Mausoleum in Bryan. The Rev. Clyde Wilton of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Bryan will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of Callaway-Jones Funeral Home in Bryan.

Mr. Carman died Monday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

He was born in Mayfield, Ky., and lived in Bryan the past 10 years. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Irene Carman of Bryan; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas L. and Jeanette Carman of Houston, Nolan and Dolores Carman of Sugar Land, Texas, Nathan John Carman of Redford, Mich., and David Carman of Bryan; a daughter and son-in-law, Naomi Ruth and Rick Ellington of Bryan; a brother, Glenn Carman of Memphis, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Cecelia Mary Muzny

Aug. 19, 1907 — May 22, 2001

CALDWELL — A Mass for Cecelia Mary Muzny, 93, of Caldwell is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dime Box, Texas. Msgr. Emilian Foltyn will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery.

A rosary and wake service are set for 7 p.m. Thursday at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mrs. Muzny died Tuesday at Burleson St. Joseph Hospital in Caldwell.

She was born in Burleson County. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Muzny Sr.

Survivors include five sons and four daughters-in-law, Ray and Margie Muzny, Louis Muzny Sr. and George and Kathy Muzny, all of Caldwell, Joe and Christine Muzny of Bryan and Jim and Elaine Muzny of Deanville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Josephine and Otto Schulz of Victoria, Texas, Agnes and Alvin Kucera of Caldwell and Mary Ann and Ronald Urbanovsky of Deanville; a brother and sister-in-law, Rudolph and Lydia Supak of Caldwell; 32 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
