Duke

ARGO COMMUNITY - Nora L. Duke, 99, of Argo Community, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002 at Titus Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17 at Argo Baptist Church. Bro. Jackie Barrett and Bro. Tommy Horn will officiate. Interment will be in Liberty Hill Cemetery under the direction of Bates-Cooper Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Darrell Reeves, Terry Mars, Aaron Gann, Nelson Moss, Ashley Campbell, Chris Plunk and Dallas Carroll. Honorary pallbearers will be Phil Denny and Jerry Duke.

Mrs. Duke was born Apr. 13, 1902 in Titus County. She was a retired nurses aide and a charter member of the Argo Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Dan and Carole Duke of Pittsburg; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Birt Duke; and sons Bernard and Roger Murphy.

The family will receive visitors from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Spraglin

CASON - Services for Paul H. Spraglin, 85, of Cason, who died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002 at Titus Regional Medical Center, are pending with Tumey Mortuary.

Bradshaw

PITTSBURG - Raymond Bradshaw, 68, of Pittsburg died Friday, May, 5, 2000 at his home.

Services were held at 2 p. m. on Monday, May 8 at Bethel Baptist Church in Pittsburg. Officiating was the Rev. Doyle Rust, assisted by the Rev. Paul Knight. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home in Pittsburg.

Born April 20, 1932 in Camp County, Mr. Bradshaw was the son of George Bailey and Birdie Edwards Bradshaw. He lived in the Pittsburg area all of his life.

He was a rancher and worked in the poultry industry and at one time for Lone Star Steel. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Bradshaw of Pittsburg; daughters and sons-in-law; Sandi and Greg Knight of Pittsburg and Nickie and Bill Carlisle of Pittsburg; brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Joyce Bradshaw of Pittsburg; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Johnny Franklin of Pittsburg, Lynn and Roy Baxley of Malakoff and Cora Richardson of Pittsburg and four grandchildren, Buck and Bailey Carlisle and Meagan and Jacob Knight.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters.

Bristow

MOUNT VERNON - Frances “Gene” Bristow, 69, of Mesquite died Friday, May 5, 2000 in Mount Vernon.

Services were held at 10:30 a. m. on Monday, May 8 at Harvey Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating were the Rev. Pete Hollingsworth and the Rev. Henry Cupit Burial was in Nevills Chapel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were be Ken Greer, Don Huffstetler, Lewis Arrendo, Joe Scally, Wesley Hooper and Greg Calloway.

Born April 18, 1931 in Greenhill Community, Mrs. Bristow was the daughter of Robert L. Freeman and Gertrude Beason Freeman.

Survivors include her husband, R. W. Bristow of Mesquite; children, Rocky Wilson of Arlington, Carolyn Sue Morgan of Mesquite and Brenda Tompkins of Dallas; brother, Glenn Freeman of Auburn, Wash.; sisters, Mary Dawson of Mount Vernon, Patsy Jackson of Leesburg and Gale Cooper of Arlington; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Brown

Ila Mae Brown, 75, of Mount Pleasant, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at Bates-Cooper Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Pleasant. Bro. Tommy Horn officiated. Interment was at Bridges Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown was born March 12, 1925, in Bogata, the daughter of Jack and Julie Smith Harper. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Ray and Elaine Brown of Marshall, Bobby and Mary Brown of Mount Pleasant and Gerald and Angie Brown of Pittsburg; daughter and son-in-law Charlotte and Richard Day of New Boston; daughter Pat Blalock of Mount Pleasant; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene B. Brown; brothers J.D. Harper and Delbert Harper; sister Louise Smith; and her parents.

Glenn

Susan Glenn, 83, of Mount Pleasant, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at SunBridge Care and Rehab.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 7, at Curry-Welborn Funeral Home Chapel. Tommy Oglesby officiated. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Casketbearers will be Justin Glenn, Toby Glenn, J.C. Gage, Sammy Edwards and Matthew Glenn.

Mrs. Glenn was born July 4, 1916, in Mark, La., the daughter of Albert Campbell Branham and Evelyn Marie Cages. She was a housewife.

She is survived by her sons David Glenn of Texarkana and Rodney Glenn of Mount Pleasant; daughters Elise Edwards of Mount Pleasant and Theresa Gage of El Dorado, Ark.; sister Dorothy Jeanne Chance of Baton Rouge, La.; grandchildren Amy Glenn, Justin Glenn, Matthew Glenn, J.C. Gage, Toby Gage, Susan Edwards, Crystal Edwards, Peggy Edwards, Sammy Edwards; numerous great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lonnie B. Glenn; brothers Donovan J. Branham and Albert C. Branham; and her parents.

Lum

Alice Lee Lum, 83, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at the Titus Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 4, at Bates-Cooper Funeral Home Chapel. Bros. Wesley Vandever and James Carol Logan officiated Interment was at DeShields Cemetery in Sugar Hill.

Mrs. Lum was born Aug. 14, 1916, in Trinidad. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Ed and Janell Lum of Mount Pleasant; sons Dalen Lum and Toby Lum, both of Mount Pleasant; daughter Geraldine Lum of Mount Pleasant; grandchildren and spouse Greg and Bonnie Lum, Scotty and Amber Lum and Kim and Tom Whitaker; great-grandchildren Brandy Lum, Mistie Hicks, Kayla Whitaker, Heath Hicks, Brandon Lum, Laramie Lum, Paden Lum and Jace Lum. She was preceded in death by her husband Jewel Lum; brothers Frank, Arthur and Lewis Logan; Jessie Mae Griffin and Lena Penny.

Morris

OMAHA - Sarah Wray Morris, 79, of Omaha, died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Redbud Retreat Nursing Home in Naples.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 4, at Connor Cemetery in Daingerfield under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home, Inc., of Naples. The Rev. Bill Turner officiated

Mrs. Morris was born Jan. 16, 1921, in Omaha. She was a lifetime resident of Omaha. Mrs. Morris was also a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Omaha.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Robert and Melissa Morris of Rocky Branch; daughter and son-in-law Debbie and Tommy Barron of Omaha; and grandson Andy Barron of Omaha and grandson and wife T.J. and Sonya Barron of Omaha. She was preceded in death by one son, Billy Bob Wray.

Newland

TERRELL - Titus County native Georgia “Odell” Newland, 91, of Terrell, died Monday, May 1, 2000 in a hospital.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburg under the direction of Erman Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Packer officiated.

Mrs. Newland was born Sept. 13, 1908, in Titus County, the daughter of George Dallas and Cordelia Melvina Chapman Tanton. She was a former resident of Pittsburg and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pittsburg. Mrs. Newland was a waitress for many years.

She is survived by her step-son Billy Newland of Arab, Ala.; step-daughter Jo Beth Lambert of Spring; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Rufus Newland in 1964; and her parents.

Newsom

HUGHES SPRINGS - Zeke Newsom, 77 of Linden died Thursday, May 4, 2000 in a Texarkana hospital.

Services were held at 3 p. m. on Saturday, May 6 at Reeder- Davis Funeral Chapel in Hughes Springs. Officiating was the Rev. Ricky Vestal. Burial was in Sardis Cemetery.

Born May 15, 1922 in Hughes Spring, Mr. Newsom was retired from the Hughes Springs Independent School District. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Morse Brown Newsom of Linden; a stepson, John Brown of Avinger; a stepdaughter, Lenora Long of Mount Pleasant; a brother, Oren Newsom of Hughes Springs; three sisters, Lorene Stradley of Springlake, Ella Stuart of Hughes Springs and Dora Lee Huchinson of Springtown; five step grandchildren; 10 step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by a brother, Elbert Newsom and a sister, Cordie Dyer.

Turner

OMAHA - L.A. Turner, 61, of Omaha, died Friday, April 28, at a Tyler hospital.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at the Daingerfield High School Auditorium under the direction of Reeder-Davis Funeral Home of Hughes Springs. Will Williams Jr. officiated. Interment was at Reynolds Cemetery in Omaha.

Mr. Turner was born April 20, 1939, in Morris County. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Turner was employed as a custodian with the Daingerfield-Lone Star Independent School District.

He is survived by his wife Ollaree Turner; daughter Linda Turner; mother Louella Turner, all of Omaha; brothers Onzie Turner of Daingerfield, Willie James Turner of Cason, L.W. Turner of Omaha, Willie Ray Turner of Omaha, Arthur Morris Turner of Mount Pleasant; sisters Shirley Ann Traylor of Omaha, Edith Osadolor of Longview, Betty Ann Turner of Omaha; step-children Leon Templeton and Delois Bradley, both of Longview; one grandchild; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.

James H. Englemann

July 23, 1932 — May 21, 2001

CALDWELL — Services for James H. Englemann, 68, of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at Providence Baptist Church in Providence, Texas.

The Rev. Bob Owens of Providence Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., and 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mr. Englemann died Monday in Temple.

He was born in Burleson County and was a lifelong resident of Caldwell. He was a foreman with the College Station Water Department. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Providence Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah Morris Englemann of Caldwell; a son, Billy Wayne Englemann of La Porte, Texas; a daughter, Mary Diane Roulain of Austin; three brothers, Albert Englemann of Bryan, Charles Englemann and Milton Englemann, both of Caldwell; two sisters, Laura Hannas of Lexington, Texas, and Katherine Korth of Caldwell; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

George Dewey Hughes

July 7, 1927 — May 20, 2001

FRANKLIN — Services for George Dewey Hughes, 73, of Easterly, Texas, are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the New Baden First Baptist Church in New Baden.

The Rev. Dwain Steinkuehler of Bryan will officiate. Burial will be in the Easterly Cemetery in Easterly.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCauley Funeral Home in Franklin.

Mr. Hughes died Sunday in Franklin.

He was born in Leon County and was a member of the New Baden First Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Franklin VFW Post No. 9873. He worked for GATX in Hearne for 27 years and worked for the Franklin schools for 10 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vernell Hughes; and a son, George David Hughes.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Donald Glen and Peggy Hughes of College Station; a daughter-in-law, Jan Hughes of Easterly; two brothers-in-law, James K. Calhoun of Franklin and Calvin Varner of San Marcos; three sisters-in-law, Rose Varner of San Marcos, Winnie Hughes of Pasadena, Texas, and Doris Calhoun of Liberty, Texas; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Baden First Baptist Church.

Glenn Dale Jones

March 21, 1935 — May 20, 2001

MADISONVILLE — Graveside services for Glenn Dale Jones, 66, of Madisonville are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Restever Memorial Park in Bryan.

Lanier Stevens will officiate.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present from 5 to 8 p.m., at J.M. Day Funeral Home in Madisonville.

Mr. Jones died Sunday in Olin Teague VA Hospital in Temple.

He was born in Graball, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired in 1974 as a staff sergeant. He was awarded two Purple Hearts. He was a firefighter in the military and continued this vocation after leaving the service.

Survivors include his former wife, Carol Rogers of Madisonville; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Troy D. Jones of Houston, Terry D. and D’Ann Rogers of Madisonville and Greg D. Jones of Florida; a stepson, Tracy Rogers of Madisonville; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Connie Anderson of New York, Sherry L. and Eugene Loving of Kennard, Texas, Beth and Scott Jackson and Lori Jones, all of Florida; a sister, Margaret Johnson of Corpus Christi; a brother, Jack E. Jones of California; and 18 grandchildren.
