Wells

JOHNTOWN - James Edwin Wells, 67, of Johntown, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at East Texas Medical Center of Clarksville.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, at the Bogata Missionary Baptist Church under the direction of Wood Funeral Homes of Bogata. Interment was at Bridges Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Wells was born July 15, 1932 near Talco, the son of Roy Joe and Annie Mary Cabel Wells. He was a retired oil field worker and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Wells is survived by his father Roy Wells of Deport; son and daughter-in-law Preston and Jannell Wells of Rockport; daughter and son-in-law Pam and Mike Charbonneau of Corpus Christi; brothers Kenneth Wells of Mount Pleasant and Glenn Wells of Johntown; sisters Mary Ann Miller and Linda Inmon, both of Mineola; grandchildren Matt, Kirsti, Sarah, Sean, Patricia and Cody.

Anthony

MARIETTA - A.B. Anthony, 78, of Marietta, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at his residence in Marietta.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 9, at Oakridge Baptist Church under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home of Naples. The Rev. James Holliday officiated. The eulogy was presented by Dr. Tiffany Anthony. Interment was be at Oakridge Cemetery.

Mr. Anthony was born Sept. 20, 1921, in Marietta. He was a lifetime resident of Marietta and a member of the Oakridge Baptist Church. Mr. Anthony was a veteran of World War II. He was a retired employee of Lone Star Steel, a farmer and a rancher.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law John and Linda Anthony of Naples, Lynn and Debbie Anthony of Naples and Dennis and Jo Anthony of Longview; daughter Louise Henderson of Houston; brother Rayford Anthony of Naples; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Jeffalona Anthony.

Gaskin

NAPLES - Grady Gaskin, 89, of Naples, died Monday, June 5, 2000, at Redbud Nursing Home in Naples.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 8, at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel in Naples. The Rev. Glen Griffithl officiated. Interment was at Springhill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard Gaskin, Alan Gaskin, Adam Gaskin, Brent Gaskin, Jim Anderson and Rusty Anderson.

Mr. Gaskin was born March 12, 1911, in Boaz, Ala. He was a veteran of World War II. Mr. Gaskin was a longtime resident of Naples and a retired employee of Lone Star Steel.

He is survived by his sons J.D. Gaskin of Boaz, Ala., Lavigne Gaskin of Denton, Larry Gaskin and Melvin Gaskin, both of Naples; daughter Sue Presley of Tamarac, Fla.; brothers Joe Gaskin of Gadsden, Ala., Johnny Gaskin and Ernest Gaskin, both of Boaz, Ala.; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Johnson

Paul D. Johnson, 46, of Mount Pleasant died Thursday, June 8, 2000 at Titus Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service was held at Union Hill Cemetery on Sunday, June 11 at 2 p.m.. Officiating were Harold Amerson and Melvin Murphy. Curry-Welborn Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Johnson was born on April 15, 1954 in Dallas. He was a resident of Mount Pleasant for 28 years. He was employed by Pilgrim’s Pride where he worked as a tool room attendant and was a member of Cypress Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Betty Lockaby Johnson of Mount Pleasant; father Troy Johnson of Arlington; mother Patricia Price of Dublin; stepmother Helen Johnson of Arlington; one son and daughter-in-law Jeremy and Christi Johnson of Gilmer; one daughter Crystal Johnson of Mount Pleasant; three brothers Scott Johnson of Arlington, Jerry Johnson of Whitesboro and Robert Johnson of Trenton; sister Patrice Wellborn of Lewisville; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Kelley

PITTSBURG - Elma McBroom Kelley, 87, of Pittsburg, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at East Texas Medical Center in Pittsburg.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, at Community Chapel in Seminole under the direction of Boyer Funeral Home in Seminole. The Rev. Emmit Barnard officiated. Interment wasat Gaines County Cemetery South in Seminole. Erman Smith Funeral Home of Pittsburg was in charge of local arrangements.

Mrs. Kelley was born July 28, 1912, in Larane, La., the daughter of John Tom and Lulamae Norsweather McBroom. Mrs. Kelley was a Baptist.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Vernon and Vivian Kelley, James Preston and Sandra Kelley, William Evans and Carol Kelley, all of Pittsburg, Billy Don Kelley of Seminole; daughters and sons-in-law Eugena Mae and Edward Langley and Angela and Eddie Gene Landrum, all of Pittsburg, Ruby Jean and Bobby Fox of Beekmon, La.; daughters Carolyn Danysh of Pittsburg and Jennette Langley of Seminole; 40 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents; husband, James M. Kelley; son Roger Dale Kelley; daughters, Pauline Cash, Naomi Lee Thurman; two brothers, Wayne McBroom, Marvin Dunken; sisters, Erlene Hunter, Margert Dunken.

Kenas

Walter Ray Kenas, 72, of Mount Pleasant, died Friday, June 9, 2000, at Christus St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, at the DeBerry Funeral Directors Chapel in Denton. Dr. Clint Davis officiated. Interment was at Blue Mound Cemetery north of Denton. Pallbearers were Steve Copeland, Ray Havins, Ray Ellison, Ricky Palmer, Billy Palmer and Sherman Smith.

Mr. Kenas was born April 17, 1928, in Sanger, the son of Walter Kenas and Mabel (Anthony) Kenas. He married Pearl Wright on Aug. 6, 1999, in Mount Pleasant. Retired from General Motors, he was a former resident of Denton and Weatherford. Mr. Kenas was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant.

He is survived by his wife Pearl Kenas of Mount Pleasant; son Stanley Kenas of Weatherford; daughters Linda Burton of Aztec, N.M. and Sharon Terry of Durango, Colo.; stepson Terry Wright of Round Rock; stepdaughter Brenda Skidmore of Mount Pleasant; brother Billy Kenas of Denton; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Miller

TALCO - Paul Arley Miller Sr., 88, of Talco, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Calvary Baptist Church in Talco under the direction of Curry-Welborn Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant. Brett Castle will officiate. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Mount Pleasant. Pallbearers were Alex Miller, Chris Miller, Craig Miller, Jarrod Miller, Clinton Gage and Barry Gage.

Mr. Miller was born Oct. 8, 1911, in Sageeyah, Okla., the son of Marion A. Miller and Cora Clemmer. He had been an oil field worker for Exxon. Mr. Miller was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Talco.

He is survived by his wife Rae Ann Miller of Talco; sons and daughters-in-law Paul A. Jr. and Sue Miller of Talco, Jerry Rae and Betty Miller of Jackson and Billy Gene and Dianna Miller of Mount Vernon; grandchildren Barry Gage, Clinton Gage, Dillon Miller, Helena Vanagas, Amanda Sloan, Angela Pierce, Alexander Miller, Christopher Miller, Craig Miller and Melissa Miller; great-grandchildren Connor Gage, Taylor Pierce, Brandon Pierce, Valerie Miller, Destiny Miller, Tristan Miller; sisters Connie Lampshire and Ella Weller.

Newman

Yevonne Slone Newman, 57, of Mount Pleasant died Wednesday, June 7, 2000 at UT Medical Center in Tyler.

Services were held at Bates-Cooper Chapel on Saturday, June 10 at 2 p.m. Brother Howard Petty and Brother Charles Newman officiated. Interment was at Gladewater Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Mrs. Newman was born July 21, 1942 in Mount Pleasant. She worked as a telephone operator and was a member of Ripley Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband Jerry Newman; stepmother May Slone of Mount Pleasant; son Richard D. Newman of Mount Pleasant; brothers Robert Slone and James Swafford, both of Mount Pleasant; sister Julia Clausan of San Matea, Calif.; grandchildren Joshua Bradford of Mount Pleasant, Michael Newman and Ariel Newman of Mount Pleasant; cousins Sylvia Cochran and Marvie Goates, both of Maple Springs. She was preceded in death by her mother Annie Lee Slone and father Robert A. Slone.

Palmer

Betty Jean Palmer, 70, of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Titus Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 9, at Church of the Living God PGT in Mount Pleasant under the direction of Tumey Mortuary of Mount Pleasant. The Elder Paul Alexanderl officiated. Interment was at Searcy Cemetery in Mount Pleasant. Pallbearers were Don Armstead, Wayne Minter, Charles Sowells, Vincent Hurndon, Bobby Turner and Larry Hurndon. Honorary pallbearers were Robert Palmer, Paul Palmer, Robert Meeks, Rickey Hurndon, Elrodrick Smith, Robby James, Cambraun James and Jakarti Meeks.

Mrs. Palmer was born Feb. 24, 1930, in Durant, Okla., the daughter of Dewitt and Vera (Allen) Phillips. An alumni of Booker T. Washington High School in Mount Pleasant, Mrs. Palmer graduated from a beauty school in Dallas. She was a housewife and a member of the Church of the Living God PGT in Mount Pleasant.

She is survived by her husband Percy Palmer of Mount Pleasant; daughters Percy Jean Palmer Meeks and Ruby Palmer James, both of Mount Pleasant; sister Ethea Faye of San Antonio; aunt Johnnie B. Ross Stanberry of Mount Pleasant; sons-in-law Robert Meeks and Rickey Hurndon, both of Mount Pleasant; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Perez

QUANAH - Victoria Perez, 76, of Quanah, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Mount Pleasant.

Mrs. Perez was the mother of Mount Pleasant resident Julia Barbosa.

Mrs. Perez was born May 23, 1924, in Bastrop. She was a housewife and a Catholic.

She is survived by son Ricky Fuentes of Jacksonville; daughters Julia Barbosa of Mount Pleasant, Mary Collazo of Garden City, Kan., Geneva Flores of Jal, N.M., Rosario Gomez of Quanah, and Angelita Trejo of Carrollton, Ga.; brother Juan Perez of Post; sisters Maria Santos Perez, Romona Gonzales and Angelita Rosas, all of Post; 35 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Alexander Fuentes in 1973.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, at Holy Cross Catholic Church under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home of Post. The Rev. Malcolm Neyland will officiate. Interment was at Terrace Cemetery.

Elsie Mae Skrabanek Orsag

Feb. 28, 1918 — May 20, 2001

CALDWELL — Services for Elsie Mae Skrabanek Orsag, 83, of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the New Tabor Brethren Church in New Tabor.

The Rev. Tony Taylor of New Tabor Brethren Church and Bro. Henry Beseda will officiate. Burial will be in the New Tabor Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, with the family present from 6 to 9 p.m., and 8 a.m. to noon Thursday at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Mrs. Orsag died Sunday in Caldwell.

She was born in Seaton, Texas, and lived in Caldwell 75 years. She was a homemaker and was a member of the New Tabor Brethren Church. She was also a member of the SPJST Lodge No. 17 in New Tabor and the Mutual Aid Society of the Unity of the Brethren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Orsag.

Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Betty and Robert Mishler of Houston and Shirley Koudelka of Caldwell; three brothers, Jerry Skrabanek of Bryan, Eugene Skrabanek of College Station and Milton Skrabanek of Snook; two sisters, Josephine Conoway of College Station and Evelyn Henning of Temple; a sister-in-law, Viola Skrabanek of Caldwell; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley or New Tabor Brethren Church.

Stephanie Virginia Schultz May

March 13, 1970 — May 18, 2001

Services for Stephanie Virginia Schultz May, 31, of Bryan are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist Church in Bryan.

The Revs. Tim Skaggs and Chris Osborne of Central Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Steep Hollow Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to the time of the services Tuesday at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan.

Ms. May died Friday in St. Joseph Regional Health Center.

She was a lifelong resident of Bryan and graduated from Bryan High School in 1988. She was employed by We Love ’em Too Daycare and was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Colby May of Bryan; a daughter, Brittany Schultz of Bryan; her parents, Rudy and Linda Schultz of Bryan; a brother and sister-in-law, Trey and Shelly Schultz of Bryan; and grandmother, Geneva Lane of Bryan.

Reva Simms

Oct. 13, 1924 — May 17, 2001

DALLAS — Services for Reva Simms, 76, are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Bryan.

Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas.

Mrs. Simms died Thursday.

Regina Louise Thomas

Feb. 16, 1966 — May 16, 2001

Services for Regina Louise Thomas, 35, of Bryan are set for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lincoln Center in College Station.

The Rev. A.C. Clark of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Wilcox Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Peoples Mortuary in Bryan.

A wake will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Thomas died Wednesday in Temple.

She was born in Burleson County and was a lifelong resident of Bryan. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in College Station and worked with the residence life and housing department at Texas A&M University.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Barnett of Bryan; two sons, Tyson Thomas and Christopher Thomas, both of Bryan; a daughter, Precious Barnett of Bryan; four brothers, Joe Thomas Jr., Johnny Thomas and Bobby Thomas, all of Bryan and Walter Thomas of Virginia; four sisters, Una Thomas Stovall, Linda Thomas Graves, Paula Graves and Carrie Thomas, all of Bryan; and her mother and stepfather, Bessie and Eugene Nelms of Bryan.
