MARY OPHELIA HALL

Mary Ophelia Hall, 87, of Plainview died Friday, October 5, 2007 at Prairie House Living Center in Plainview.

She was born December 25, 1919 to the late Dolphus Motte and Mary Elizabeth Sharrett Motte.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2007 at the Moore Rose Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Henry Russell officiated. Burial followed at the Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

BARBARA WOODY

Graveside services for Barbara Hauteen Woody, age 86, of Lubbock was held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 6, 2007 at the Floydada Cemetery. Brother Andy Coats officiated. Burial was under the direction of Moore Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

Barbara Hauteen Woody passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at University Medical Center in Lubbock. Barbara was born May 20, 1921, to the late William Pinckney and Annie Lavada Neff. She married Samuel Paul Woody on July 13, 1942 in Matador. They were married for 64 wonderful years. He preceded her in death on June 15, 2007. She was a homemaker, and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.

Mrs. Woody is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six brothers, and three sisters.

Mrs. Woody is survived by three sons, Samuel Woody, Jr. and wife, Darla of Lubbock, Carroll Woody and wife, Jana of Floresville and Mark Woody and wife, Lynda of Summersville, SC; four daughters, Barbara Cole and husband Scott, of Decatur, Sharon  Taylor and husband, Phillip of Lubbock, Deonne Lobstein and husband, Glenn of Brownfield and Janice Smalling of Roanoke; a brother, Edd Neff of Floydada; twenty five grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.

HELEN W. DIXON

Helen Catherine Whitfill Dixon, 64 of Phoenix, Arizona passed away Sunday, November 4, 2007.

She was born February 14, 1941, in Plainview,  Texas to Jack and Lillian Whitfill. She attended school in Floydada. Helen graduated from Floydada High School in 1961.

Helen is survived by her husband Al Dixon; daughter Marni and son Chris and his wife Dena, and a grandson Issac, all of Phoenix; sisters Margaret Kitchens of South Plains, Laura Neff of Dalhart and Carolyn Newton of Lubbock; a brother, Anthony Whitfill of Floydada; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by both parents.

WILMA MAE ADAMS

Graveside services for Wilma Mae Adams, age 90 of Littlefield and formally of Lockney were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at the Lockney Cemetery with Eric Dickey, officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hammons Funeral Home of Littlefield.

Mrs. Adams went home to be with the Lord Monday morning, December 10, 2007 at the Littlefield Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born January 19, 1917 in Godley,  Texas to Tignal Turner and Annie Laura (Hardin)  White. She married Quentin Adams on February 22, 1943 at UNT in Denton,  Texas. Wilma graduated from the University of North  Texas where she received the Ellen H. Richards award. She taught public school in Lockney for 24 years, in Plainview for 1 year, and in Lueders Avoca for 3 years. Wilma was a member of the FHA area 1, the  Texas Young Homemakers Association and the Retired Teachers of  Texas. She was a member of the Crescent Park Church of Christ in Littlefield. The family suggests memorials be sent to the Lubbock Children‚s Home, P.O. Box 2824, Lubbock,  Texas 79408.

Survivors include: husband, Quentin Adams, of Littlefield; a son, Milton Adams, of Ft. Worth; a daughter, Jennie Davis and husband, Danny, of Littlefield and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 3 to 5 pm on Tuesday, December 11, at Hammons Funeral Home in Littlefield.

HUGH JEFF AYRES

Hugh Jeff Ayres, 90, of Duncan, Okla., died Monday, December 3, 2007, in Duncan.

Funeral services were at First United Methodist Church, Duncan, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, December 6, 2007, with the Rev. Phil Ware officiating. Interment was at Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan.

Hugh was born on February 6, 1917 in Sterling City, TX to Jeff D. and Mayzie (Gillies) Ayres. At age 4 he moved with his family to Floydada,  Texas where he graduated from high school in 1934 and entered  Texas Tech University the next year. On October 20, 1943 he married Nancy Ann Hadsell in Denton,  Texas.

He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. When he returned he went back to  Texas Tech to finish a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Hugh started to work for Halliburton in 1948 in Hobbs, New Mexico and transferred to Duncan in Feb. 1954. He retired in Feb. 1982 as a Senior Staff Engineer in the Production Improvement Department. He obtained several patents, alone or with others, and was a Registered Petroleum Engineer. He was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Nancy, daughter Margy and son-in-law Tad Milewski of  Oklahoma City, a daughter-in-law Cissy Henig of Albuquerque, New Mexico, 3 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Ben P. Ayres, two brothers, Darnell G. and Benjamin Ayres (of Floydada, TX), one sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Harmon Jenkins, and a grandson, David Milewski.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Choir, 2300 Country Club Rd.; Duncan, OK 73533; Chisholm Trail Hospice; P.O. Box 2000; Duncan, OK 73534 or charity of choice.

DONNIE BYBEE

Funeral services for Donnie Bybee, 76, were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 7, 2007 at the First United Methodist in Lockney. Burial was in the Lockney Cemetery with graveside services being held by the Plainview Masonic Lodge.

Arrangements were under the direction of Moore- Rose Funeral Home in Lockney. Pall Bearers were his grandsons.

Donnie passed away Wednesday 5, 2007 in the Mangold Memorial Hospital after a bout of cancer.

He was born on December 24,1930 in Lockney to Delbert and Lois Baker Bybee. He was married to Vera Jo Rogers on January 20, 1950 in the Lockney Methodist Parsonage by Bro. Newt Daniels.

Donnie was a farmer in Floyd County for 45 years before retiring. While farming he was a substitute mail carrier for 16 years. His last job was the caretaker of Lockney Cemetery.

Survivors are his wife of Lockney; son, Louie and wife, Cynthia, of the Providence community; two daughters, Dara and husband, Gary Faries of Plano and Becky and husband, Steve McPherson, of Lockney; four sisters, Loree of Plano, Betty of Lake Whitney, Freda of Dallas, and Patsy of Chattanooga, Tenn;. six grandchildren and three great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Ann and three brothers Archie, Wayne, and Billy Baker.

ELLA MAY CARTER

Graveside services for Ella May Carter, 96, of Vernon (formerly of Lockney) will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 14, 2007 at the Plainview Cemetery. Interment will be under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home of Vernon.

She died Sunday, December 9, 2007 in Vernon.

Ella was born July 12, 1911 in Red River County, TX. to the late Joe Giddens and Ethel Will Giddens.

EDYTHE CLARKE

Edythe Clark, 85, of Lockney passed away on December 5, 2007 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX

Edythe Laverne Clarke was born November 6, 1922 to Holiday Myers and Maggie (Martin) Myers in Ada,  Oklahoma. Edythe married W.O. (Windy) Clarke on August 24, 1947 in Gainesville, TX.

Edythe loved to teach. She was a teacher for 44 years. She taught the 3rd and 4th grade in Lockney and she retired in 1986. Her favorite hobbies were teaching and cooking.

She was a wonderful wife, sister and teacher.

Edythe is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband, W.O. Clarke of Lockney; and two sisters, Ann Tilley of Duncan,  Oklahoma and Bobbie Summers of Ada,  Oklahoma.

Family suggest memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 3411 73rd St., Lubbock, TX.

Funeral services were Friday, December 7, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lockney, with Dr. Carl Moman officiating. Burial was in the Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Lockney.

DERRAL STEPHEN DE LA CRUZ

Derral Stephen "D.C." De La Cruz, 41, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2007 in Grand Prairie. He was formerly of Floydada.

Funeral services held at 1:00 p.m. Monday in Arlington Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment was held in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Rosary was held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday in Arlington Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation followed.

D.C. was born December 17, 1965. He was preceded in death by his father, Stephen De La Cruz in 1995.

Survivors include sons, Jimmy Lee and Darren Stephen De La Cruz; grandchildren, McKenzie and Jayden De La Cruz; mother, Lenore De La Cruz; sisters, Eloisa Apodaca and husband, Arthur, Sally Ann tobias and husband, Joe and Christina T. Vega and husband, Manuel Martinez.

Memorials can be made to Catholic Charities or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

ANDRES T. SOLIS

Funeral services for Andres T. Solis were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2007 at the Primera Iglesia Bautista Church of Lockney. Prayer services were held Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at Primera Iglesia Bautista Church of Lockney. Burial followed at the Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Moore Rose Funeral Home of Lockney.

Andres was born November 30, 1915 in Grulla, TX. to Nazario Solis and Juvencia (Torres) Solis.

He passed away on Monday, December 10, 2007 at Lockney Rehab and Care Center.

Local survivors include a son Andres Solis, Jr. of Lockney; daughters, Augustina Solis Nuncio, Juanita Solis Balderas and Paula Solis Pesina, all of Lockney; son-in-laws, Rodolfo Fernandez of Lockney and Gilbert Blanco of Plainview.
