Eduvijes (Raul) Ochoa, 72, passed away April 5. He was a longtime resident of El Paso and former owner of California Poppy Restaurant. He is survived by his wife, Irene Ochoa, sons — Raul Ochoa, Roberto Ochoa, Maria Magdalena Ochoa, Patricia Cereceres, Irene Espindola, Sylvia Campos, and Elva Avalos — 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass was April 9 Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.

Eddie H. “Smitty” Smith, 78, passed away April 7. He was a sergeant first class in the U. S. Army, who served in the Korean War. He is survived by his daughters — Shareen Yates and Jean Larson — his sister Ellen I. Wright and close friends Debbie and Don Pullen. A graveside service was held April 16 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Harry Thomas (Tom) Petersen, 54, passed away April 9. He had lived in El Paso since 1962 earned his law degree from Marquette University Law School and practiced law in El Paso for more than 25 years during which time he was an assistant district attorney, served seven years on the El Paso Bar Association Ethics Committee and was an avid supporter of “Common Cause,” a bipartisan group dedicated to fighting for congressional ethics reform.
He is survived by his wife Irma Castaρeda, his parents — Phyllis and Harry Petersen — and his sister Phyllis Ann Petersen. A memorial service was held April 17. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made in his name to the American Institute for Cancer Research at 1759 R Street NW, Washington DC 20009.

Lloyd S. Sheffield, 74, past away April 11. He was an El Paso resident for more than 50 years. A practicing attorney, he enjoyed singing barbershop harmony with the El Paso Border Chorders and was active in the El Paso Lions Clubs. He is survived by his son Robert W. Sheffield and daughter Toni L. Sheffield, and four grandchildren. A memorial service took place April 17 at Coronado Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Institute for Cancer.

Bill Gene Youngs, 68, passed away April 4. He lived in El Paso since 1962 and retired as a truck dispatcher. He is survived by his brothers Richard Youngs, Ronald Dean Youngs, John Ellis Youngs and Roy Davis; his children — Elizabeth Luann Walker, Melissa Rose Thompson, Douglas Alan Youngs and Bruce Gordon Youngs. Burial was April 12 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Elizabeth C. Young Stevenson, 93, passed away April 7. She is survived by Denny Graves, Jeanne Howard and Joan Harris, three children, 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services were April 10 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Las Cruces.

Rodolfo Valenzuela, 68, passed away April 5. He is survived by his wife Grace, his children — Rudy Jr., Randy, Jaime, Javier, Vanessa, Sandra, Julia, Adriana and Grizelda Valenzuela — and nine grandchildren. A memorial service took place April 9 at San Jose Funeral Home.

Alicia Gamboa, 68, passed away April 9. She was a resident of El Paso for 50 years and is survived by her son Ramon Anchondo, her daughter-in-law Gloria, grandchildren and her goddaughter/niece Theresa Perea. Services were private at La Paz Funeral Home.

Eduardo Garcia, 86, passed away April 12. He was a resident of El Paso since 1955 and retired from Asarco Refinery. He is survived by his wife Julia Garcia, their children — Eduardo Garcia, Jr., Graciela Garcia, Martha Castillo, Elba Toney, Bertha Soto and and Julie Piρa —14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Interment was April 17 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Edgart Lyne Guerry Jr., 93, passed away April 5. He was a lifelong El Paso resident who retired as a civil service investigator for the Department of Labor. Survivors include his wife Josefina Castillo Guerry, children — Marilyn Cody, Sarah Ione Lawson, Sarah Arlene Coleman, Joselyn Lavon Guerry, Edmund Wallace Guerry and Edgar Lynne Guerry III — 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Interment was April 9 at Evergreen Alameda Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations were requested to be made to the Visiting Nurses Association.

David Lynn Hall Sr., 63, passed away April 11, 2001. He had been a longtime faculty member at UTEP who specialized in Asian philosophy and was recognized as a scholar and author of many publications. He was a conscientious objector in the 1960s and recently had worked on the integration of studies in the sciences and humanities. He is survived by his wife Stephanie Hall, his sons Christopher B. Hall and David L. Hall, and his sister Julianne Navar. His colleagues at UTEP invite former students, faculty and friends to a memorial at 3 p.m April 23 in Room 116 of the Undergraduate Learning Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Eusebio Hernandez Jr., 62, passed away April 7. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso and retired from Asarco. He is survived by his wife Josefina Hernandez, his children — Marcos Hernandez, Danny Hernandez, Lourdes R. Hernandez and Sonia L. Hernandez — and five grandchildren. Interment was private on April 10.

Virginia K. Hillis, 94, passed away April 6. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso and is survived by Frank G. Trew and Virginia L. Fox., her seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Interment was April 9 at Restlawn Memorial Park.

Anne Miles Hussmann, 65, passed away April 9. She had been an El Paso resident since 1959 and was active as a wildlife preservation lecturer, a bird rehabilitator and sportswoman, and an involved member of Saint Francis on the Hill Episcopal Church, where she served on the Vestry, Altar Guild and as a manager of the thrift shop.
She was the director of the Chihuahuan Desert Wildlife Rescue Association of El Paso, president of Coronado Ladies Go Association, director of Colonial Dames of America, and active member of the Trans-Pecos Audubon Society. She won golf club championships at both Coronado Country Club and Vista Hills Country Club.
Her survivors include her son Harry L. Hussmann IV and daughter Anne H. Mitchell, and four grandchildren.
Memorial services were April 12 at Saint Francis on the Hill Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that memorial contributions be made to Saint Francis on the Hill Episcopal Church at 6280 Los Robles, El Paso, TX 79912 or a favorite charity.

Helen L. Kmetsch, 76, passed away April 8. She had been a resident of El Paso since 1960 and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 4th Ward. Survivors include her husband Melvin Kmetzsch, children — Rosemary Jacoby, Connie Neria and Jim Kmetzsch, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A private interment took place April 12 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Eveline Karin Longoria, 61, passed away April 8. She is survived by her husband Adelaido Longoria, children — Roland Abert, Humberto Longoria, Richardo Longoria and Patricia Beacham — and nine grandchildren. Graveside service was April 12 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Monica Lopez, 25, of El Paso passed away April 10. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso and a member of the Catholic Church and a student. She is survived by her parents, Bertha Dominguez and Juan Lopez and her step-father Guadalupe Mendoza, her siblings — Alfredo Dominguez, Juan Alberto Lopez, Jessie Guadalupe Mendoza, Jessica Lopez, Emilie Ann Lopez and Raquel Mendoza — as well as by her grandmothers, Eulalia Lopez and Petra Rey. Interment was April 17 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

John S. McKee, 84, passed away April 6. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso who worked with McKee Construction until his retirement in 1976. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nan Randle McKee, his children — Dr. John S. McKee Jr., Charlotte Cohen, Elizabeth Tatum and Barbara Woodward — 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A graveside service took place April 7 at Restlawn Memorial Park.

She is survived by her children — Jim McCroskey, Julie Kelly and Karen Valentino — five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Graveside services wereApril 11 at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Felipe Medina, 80, passed away April 8. He was a retired custodian with the Ysleta Independent School District and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mercedes Medina, their children and their spouses — Irma Chavira (Eugenio), Marco Antonio Medina (Bertha Moncada) Corina Molinar (Jose), Dolores Aosno (Daniel), Melanie Reyes (Salvador), Valente Medina (Celia), Susana Medina (Nellio Santos), Noemi Orozco (Ruben) and Cecilia Barrientos (Joe) — 25 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Interment was April 12 Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Paulino Medrano, 90, passed away April 12. He was a longtime resident of El Paso and a member of the Catholic faith. He is survived by his children — Esther Gaytan, Clara Rodriguez Velia Ramirez and Isaac Medrano — 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Interment was April 17 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.

Lottie Gill, 87, passed away April 1. She had been a longtime El Pasoan until moving to Addison, Texas, in 1999. She was active at Queen of Peace Church in El Paso. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John, their son John A. Gill, two grandchildren — Jennifer L. Crutchfield and John Douglas Gill — and three great-grandchildren — Carissa and Colton Crutchfield and Madyson Gill. Funeral Mass was April 5 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and burial was private.

She is survived by her companion Victor Barron Jr., her mother Esperanza Gill and her children — Gustavo Lopez Jr., Diamond Lopez, Violet Barron, Hope Barron and Danielle Barron. Interment was April 4 at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery in Santa Teresa.

Burial was April 6 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Interment was April 4 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Memorial Service was April 4 at Kaster-Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home Northeast Chapel.

Naylor, his children —Robert F. Naylor III, Howard Naylor, George Naylor and Ann Rodriguez — and 14 grandchildren. Interment was April 4 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Arthur Richard Marston, 71, passed away April 7. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso and the son of Samuel Shirley and Edna Holt Marston. He was born in El Paso on April 25, 1929. He was retired after 37 years of dedication as a comptroller at Dick Poe Family of Dealerships and Evergreen Cemeteries. He married Nellie Fay Mulhern on March 24, 1951, in El Paso. He served as a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army stationed in Erlangen, Germany. His duty assignment was AAA AW Gun Unit Commander. He received the Army of Occupation Medal in Germany and the National Defense Service Medal. He graduated from the UTEP when it was the College of Mines and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and Delta Sigma Pi Professional Business Fraternity. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Nellie, his children —Debbie Marston Smith, Georgetta Marston Leyendecker and Richard Frederick Marston — and seven grandchildren. A memorial service was held April 9 at Martin Funeral Home West. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Francis on the Hill Episcopal Church or La Mariposa Hospice in his memory.
