She was a past president of the Altar Society at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, a volunteer for Drive-A-Meal and member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Southwestern General Hospital. She worked for Sears, The Popular and the White House department stores. She is survived by children — James E. Riley III, John W. Riley, George E. Riley, Robert L. Riley, Patricia Y. Riley — eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and sister Josefina Alvarado. Burial was Nov. 8 at Evergreen Alameda Cemetery.

Maria Elena Briones, 87, passed away Nov. 1. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso and is survived by her husband Ruperto Briones, daughters Gloria Ryan and Angie Rubio, grandchildren Joe Rubio, Cynthia Rubio-Ratton, Veronica Rubio-Parga, Brenda Provencio-McGuire and Joe Ramos III, great-grandchildren Juliana, Marissa Alexander Ratton, Mackenzie and Madison McGuire, great-grandnephew Gilbert Duran and great-grandniece Hilda Duran Tirres. Graveside service was Nov. 7 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Jesus P. Rosales, 70, passed away Nov. 2. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso and a member of the Catholic Church. He was the founder and owner of Millennium Transportation. He is survived by his wife Mercedes Rosales, children — Nicolas G. Rosales, Jessie A. Rosales, Antonio R. Flores, Maria Mon-dragon and Rosa Quiñonez, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Interment was Nov. 6 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Joan Caroline Graham Huerta, 68, passed away Nov. 3. She is survived by her husband Adalberto, children — Dr. Sergio Huerta and wife Lora, Margaret Licon and husband Frank, Michael Huerta and wife Sandra — grandchildren Mi-chael, Alison and Christopher Huerta, Matthew and Patrick Kell, and Nick and Lucas Huerta, sisters Alice Smigelskis and Peggy Montelongo. Funeral Mass was Nov. 7 at St. Stephens Catholic Church and a private interment service took place later.

Eloida D. Pineda, 78, passed away Nov. 5. She was a longtime El Paso resident. She is survived by husband Israel Pineda, sons Israel Pineda Jr. and wife Corinne, Gilbert Pineda, Saul Pineda and wife Alicia C. and Omar Pineda, daughter Maria Guadalupe Pineda and husband Joe L. Vasquez, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brothers Fidel Duran and Gilberto Duran, and sisters Emilia Ochoa and Velia Barraza. Graveside service was Nov. 7 at Evergreen East Cemetery.

John Marvis Neuhaus, 64, passed away Nov. 2. He had been a Coldwell Banker sales associate, worked for Marcia Coleman and Associates and various garment manufacturers. He had served as an elder and deacon at First Christian Church and also was active in youth sponsorship and music programs of the church. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Darlene Neuhaus, daughter Amy and husband John Gilliam, grandchildren Jessica Leigh and John Michael Gilliam II, mother Charlotte Neuhaus, sisters Ruth Ann Dreyer and husband Howard, Nancy Trevorrow, and Debra Ocepek and husband Robert “Adam” Ocepek. Burial was Nov. 7 at Memory Gardens of the Valley. In lieu of flowers, the family requested contributions to First Christian Church, 901 Arizona, El Paso, TX 79902.

Roberto Martinez Sr., 70, passed away Oct. 17. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso and a a security guard for Hanks High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict. He is survived by his wife Bertha C. Martinez, children — Roberto Martinez Jr. and his wife Rosa, Alfredo Martinez Sr. and his wife Elena, Sylvia Villa and husband Gerardo and Zoila Martinez — 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Interment was Oct. 22 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Eula (Tina) Keller passed away Oct. 19. She was a longtime El Paso resident and former owner of Tina’s Treasures. She was a past member of the Texas Fine Arts Association, the Texas Watercolor Society and El Paso Art Museum Association. She is survived her husband Bill Poland, children — Charles J. Keller, Michael C. Keller, Connie S. Williams and Marcia Keller — her sister Barbara Wallis, daughters-in-law, M. Yvonne Keller and Yvonne S. Keller, sister-in-law Pauline Kindleberger, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Memorial services were Oct. 23.

Dr. J. Philip Richardson, 81, passed away October 20. He was a WWII veteran Army paratrooper. He attended Temple University and became an orthopedic surgeon. He then re-enlisted in the U.S. Army and served a total of 16 years. He is survived by his wife Alicia Richardson, children — Scott, David, Jim, Wendy and Cindy — eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Memorial services took place Oct. 24. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4400 North Mesa, No. 9, El Paso, Texas 79902.

Gloria Maria Hannah, 68, passed away Oct. 22. The longtime El Paso resident retired after 17 years of service with K-Mart Department Store. She is survived by her husband Donald Hannah, children — Donald Hannah Jr., Ronald Hannah, Diane Hannah Bingham, Robin Hannah — granddaughters Harmony Marotz, Tiffany Hannah and Trina Hannah, grandson Joshua Bingham, and great-grandson Justice Lee Marotz. Burial was Oct. 25 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Dr. Thomas G. Barnes, 90, passed away Oct. 23. He was professor emeritus and taught Physics at UTEP for 43 years. His scientific work embraced many fields, ranging from medicine to geophysics. He was the author of five scientific booksand for 12 years was director of Schellenger Research Labo-ratories. He was a consultant and researcher for Duke University, Navy Electronics Laboratory, U.S. Army Research Office, and Globe Universal Sciences. His original research led to patents on electronic sound ranging devices, such as the Dodar (the predecessor to Sonar), directional microphones, magnetic sensing devices, electro-chemical extraction devices and seismic energy devices. He also jointly worked on the vector cardiograph, which was to be the first three-dimensional computer display to study the heart. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church and the president of the Creation Research Society for four years. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Libby, children — Mary Kay D’Arcy, Betty Blackmond, Tom Barnes and Dottie Vinall — nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Memorial services were Oct. 27 at First Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested donations to the UTEP Dr. Thomas G. Barnes Physics Fund.

Isabel Holguin Arriaga, 76, passed away Oct. 30. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso, a Native American of the Tigua Tribe and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Old Mission. She is survived by her children — Enrique Holguin, Ramon Acosta, Arturo Arriaga Jr., Guadalupe Holguin, T. Melendez, Norma Holguin Arriaga, Isabel Holguin Arriaga Anchondo and Maria Andrea Holguin Byrley — 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Interment was Nov. 3 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Juanita G. Virchis, 79, passed away Oct. 18. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso and retired from The Popular Department Store. She is survived by her children — Jorge Sanchez, Jose Luis Virchis, Eliseo Javier Virchis and Araceli V. Cossio — 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services were Oct. 22 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Augustin (Tito) Loya, 74, passed away Oct. 19. He retired from the civil service after 25 years of service and also worked for Chavez Trucking Co. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife Manuela Loya, daughters — Irene and husband Victor, Becky and husband Mike and Terri Loya — two stepdaughters Irma and husband Armando and Yolanda and husband Raul, two stepsons George Garcia and Salvador and wife Leticia. He is also survived by his brother Johnny Loya, sister Maria Madrid and many nieces and nephews. Interment was Oct. 25 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Velma A. Walker, 67, passed away Oct. 24. Before retiring, she worked at Western Auto and Swanky Franky’s. She raised six of her own children and took in numerous other children as her own. She is survived by her children — Sheldon P. Walker, James R. Walker, Lola Lee Baldwin, Eyvonne A. Dallas, Deborah L. Sifuentes and Jennifer M. Walker — 12 grandchildren, a brother Delvin Dawson, and two sisters, Irene Nichols and Margie Benett. Graveside service was Oct. 29 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Alfred A. Ratner, 88, passed away Oct. 26. He came to El Paso in 1935 and began work at the old White House Department Stores then became manager of the Franklin Stores. He married Adalaide Moye in 1940 and raised three children in El Paso. He retired and sold his interest in the Southwest Beauty Schools in 1983 and was active in civic activities, such as the on the board of the El Paso Chamber of Commerce, as chairman of the El Paso City-County Board of Health, president of the Temple Mount Sinai Men’s Club and member of the Lion’s Club. He served as president of the National Association of Cosmetology Schools and chairman of the Cosmetology Accrediting Commission of the U.S. Department of Education. In retirement, he volunteered at the Small Business Administra-tion as a SCORE counselor, becoming SCORE chairman for a time. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Adalaide M. Ratner, children — Linda and husband Richard Bateman, James and wife Janice Ratner, and Robert and wife Nan Ratner — six grandchildren and two (almost three) great-grandchildren. Graveside services were Oct. 29 at Temple Mount Sinai Cemetery.

Manuel “Manito” Ismael Davila, 100, passed away Oct. 28. He worked as a truck driver and also was a boxer who was nicknamed “Manito” because of his huge hands. He retired at the age of 74 and spent the next 17 years in support of the holy nuns of the Monastery of Perpetual Adoration. He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Carolina Solis Davila, children — Manuel I. Davila Jr., Mario Davila, Armando Davila, Ramon Torres, Maria E. Hernandez, Consuelo Pina, Rosario Richardson, Irene Resendez and Hilda Davila — 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Burial was Oct. 31 at Evergreen Cemetery.

Kenneth Aubrey Jones, 68, passed away Oct. 30. He was a longtime resident of El Paso and a member of Immanuel Baptist Church who retired as a band teacher in the Ysleta Independent School District. He was a 30-year member of the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and as Eastwood High School’s first band director, he wrote the school’s Alma Mater and fight song. He was a graduate of Texas Western University and received a master’s in music from Vandercook School of Music at the University of Chicago. He also served in Korea with the 8th Army Band. He is survived by his son Dean Jones, sister Sandra Wray and niece Denise Yarbrough. Graveside service was Nov. 2 at at Fort Bliss Cemetery.

Eduardo S. Betancourt, Sr., 92, passed away Oct. 13. He retired from the El Paso Water Utilities with more than 25 years of service. He is survived by his children, Esperanza (Hope) Castillo and husband Frank and Eduardo Betancourt Jr., five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Interment was Oct. 16 at Evergreen East Cemetery.

Lillian M. Downum, 88, passed away October 11. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a volunteer at Columbia Medical Center East for 13 years, accumulating over 16,000 volunteer hours. In 1989, she received the KDBC-TV Spirit of El Paso Award for her dedicated work. She is survived by her son Lawrence M. Downum Jr. and wife Sonia, granddaughter Julie L. Downum and great-grandaughter Brenda L. Lenderman. Graveside services were Oct. 16 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Amador P. Jimenez, 72 passed away Oct. 13. He was an El Paso resident for 50 years and a retiree of JE Boyd Construction. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Delia, children — Sylvia Vazquez, Jaime Jimenez, Jacobo Jimenez, Cynthia Salazar and Corina Arriaga — grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Burial was Oct. 16 at Desert View Cemetery in Chaparral, N.M.

Nancy Sparks, 73, passed away Oct. 13. She graduated from San Angelo High School and attended UT Austin. She enjoyed playing golf in her younger years and was also an avid bridge player, earning her masters in Bridge in 2000. She was a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. Interment was Oct. 16 at Restlawn Memorial Park.

Joseph “Al” Keller, 58, passed away Oct. 11. He was employed in civil service for 18 years and was a decorated soldier serving with the U.S. Air Force for more than 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sharon M. Keller, sons John Keller and James Keller, seven grandchildren, and siblings Charles Keller, Jimmy Keller, JoAnn Merrigan, Marylou Krauss and Susie Pierson. Interment was private at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Garcia and wife Dora, Maria Pilar Serna and husband Frank, and Irene G. Perez and husband Jose — 33 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Interment was Oct. 18 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

The longtime El Paso resident and member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church retired after 18 years of service with the El Paso County from the Road and Bridge Department. Herrera, children — Reynaldo, Justino Jr. and wife Armida, Javier and wife Martha, Roman and wife Armida and David and wife Yvonne, Adela and husband Luis Medina, Raquel and husband Jose Martinez and Martha A. and husband Pablo Monzon — 26 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Burial was Oct. 19 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

MSGT U.S. Army Ret. Donald L. Jones, 79, passed away Oct. 11. He hd been an El Paso resident since 1956 and retired from the U.S. Army. After his retirement, he was an instructor in guided missiles at Fort Bliss and was an amateur radio operator with the Call Sign of KSSB. He is survived by his wife Kathleen M. Jones, son Richard L. Jones and wife Barbara, daughters Sandra K. Schaafsma and husband Peter, Susan L. Leuci and husband James, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild and sister Wanda M. Brown Meade. Graveside service was Oct. 18 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Burial was Oct. 18 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
