Robert J. Whitcomb, 86, passed away May 19. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. A U.S. Army veteran who served in WWII and Korea, he retired as a major after 30 years of service. Among his awards and commendations, he received the Purple Heart. He also retired from the civil service as a radar technician after 18 years of service. He is survived by sons David E. Whitcomb and Gary S. Whitcomb, sisters Martha Anderson, Marcella Gunderson and Mary Knudson, grandsons Steven, Daniel and Alexander Whitcomb. Graveside service was May 23 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.

Delia Almanza, 63, passed away May 28. She had been a lifelong resident of El Paso and was employed by Eureka for 17 years. She is survived by her son Jerry Perez, her brothers Arturo, Armando, Frank and Freddy Neria and her sisters Ernestina Ontiveros, Connie Hensler. Burial was June 2 at Restlawn.

Ruben Anchondo, 80, passed away May 27. He worked for the City of El Paso and upon retirement went to work at Del Norte Coaches as an organizer for trips to Las Vegas. He is survived by his wife Nieves Anchondo and daughter Sofia Castillo. Burial was June 2 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Louise Lacy Barratt passed away May 30. She was a graduate of Texas Western College and taught math at Bel-Air High School for 17 years before leaving to pursue her passion for painting. She spent her later years living in Ruidoso, the beauty of which inspired many of her artworks. She exhibited in countless shows and was honored with numerous awards. She was a respected member of several art groups, such as the Alla Prima International Water Color Society and was especially proud of her participation in DIVA (Diversity in Visual Arts), a group of noted women artists from El Paso that met to discuss new ideas and critique each other’s work. That artistic collaboration culminated in “Desert Echo: Women Illuminate the Sacred,” a book of poetry illustrated with the paintings of the DIVA group. Her works are on display at the Dallas Women’s Museum, an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, and in corporate and private collections throughout the United States. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, John E. Barratt, children — Cynthia Louise Barratt and husband Nat Adkins, Jody Scherr and husband Jay, Jonny Ruth Gubachy and husband James — and grandchildren Jason, Jamie and Jasmine Scherr and Sarah Ruth Gubachy. Graveside service was June 3 at Restlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Lung Association or the Building Fund for First Baptist Church of Ruidoso, NM.

Lucille H. Boerstler, 81, passed away June 1. She was a retired school teacher with more than 32 years of service. She taught second grade a substantial part of her life at Dowell Elementary in Northeast El Paso and she was a long time member of Highland Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her only child Charles W. Boerstler. Burial was June 6 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Helen Louise Cosper, 84, passed away May 31. She is survived by her daughters Doris Roberts and husband Doyal, Dorothy Wilson and Glenna Lambert and husband Cliff, nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. A me-morial service took place in Ruidoso.

Ethelene “Mickey” Davis, 74, passed away May 19. She attended the Texas Western College and Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas. She is survived by her husband Cleatis “Pete” B. Davis, children — Georgia Davis, Candice Retzer and David Davis — granddaughters Lori Neel, Danielle Davis, Jessica Davis and Cassidy Davis, and great-grandchildren Ryan and Morgan Neel. A memorial service took place on June 12.

Jesusita Dominguez, 87, passed away June 3. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso. She is survived by her children — Alex Jr., Alberto and Louie Dominguez, Nena Velasco, Mary Padilla, Margie Sena, Gloria Chavira, Delia Tarango, Lucy Ramirez and Alice Rivera — 36 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Burial was June 7 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Velma Fletcher Franklin, 89, passed away May 25. She was a member of The Church at El Paso, was retired from Civil Service and was active as a servant of the Lord, ministering to, counseling and helping people of all ages. She is survived by her siblings — Alene Knopp, sister and brother-in-law Marguerite and Roy Voorhees, Thomas H. Fletcher Jr. — and her friends and care-givers Millie and Tom Kroupa. Burial was June 4 at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

He is survived by his parents, Ricardo Rodriguez and Belinda Daugherty, siblings — Andrew Rene Daugherty-Rodriguez and Natalie Rae Villalobos — and grandparents Edgar and Herlinda Daugherty, and Jose and Maria De Jesus Rodriguez. He also is survived by his aunts Angie Guzman and Guadalupe Daugherty and uncles Victor Rodriguez, Pepin Rodriguez and Martin Daugherty. His surviving cousins are Edgar Guzman, Sergio Guzman Jr., Reina Guzman, Kimberly Daugherty, Venessa Daugherty, Corina Daugherty, Stephanie Rodriguez, Victor Rodriguez Jr. and Alex Rodriguez. Interment was June 2 at Evergreen East Cemetery.

Lucio Guevara, 73, passed away May 29. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso who retired from the City of El Paso after working for the Sanitation Department. He is survived by his wife Emma Guevara, children — Rafael Guevara, Lucio Guevara Jr., Alonso Guevara, Javier Guevara, Cesar Guevara and Alicia Elizalde — seven grandchildren and a great-granddaughter Drucilla Guevara. Interment was June 2 at Evergreen East Cemetery.

Dr. Lawrence Hamilton, 73, passed away May 31. He was a lifelong scholar who shared his knowledge and talents with generations of service to several universities, school districts and other institutions. He is survived by his brothers Bob and Dan Hamilton and a large extended family of close friends and colleagues. Interment was June 4 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it is requested donations be made to the John Wayne Cancer Institution in Santa Monica Calif., and/or the El Paso Tennis Club.

Jerry D. Hunter passed away May 29. He was born and raised in Abilene, Texas, where he graduated from Hardin Simmons University. He received his Ph.D. from Texas A & M and taught in the Biology Departmen at UTEP for more than 30 years. He is survived by his wife Suzanne and children Marc Hunter and Sandra Hunter. Major (retired) Justin E. Martin, 83, passed away May 29. He was born Nov. 11, 1917, in Davis County, Iowa, the son of Claud E. and Clara M. Martin. He was a veteran of World War II serving in Germany and the Korean War. His military honors included the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. He was retired from the Army and Civil Service after 35 years of service. He was a member of Saint Paul’s United Methodist Church, Fort Bliss Officers’ Club, the El Paso Men’s Garden Club, military Order of the Purple Heart, DAV Unit 10, and a life member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Irene Marshall Martin, children — Lt. Col. (retired) Brian Martin, Michael and David Martin, Joyce Holland and Marsha Martin — grandchildren Daniel Holland and Jeanette Hontz, Jennifer Martin, Clara and Trevor Cobb, and adopted granddaughters Yolanda and Rhodesha Holland, plus great-grandchildren Estephan and Priscilla Mendoza and Joshua Hontz. Burial was June 6 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Cecilia Moya, 55, passed away May 28. She was a lifelong resident of El Paso and was a member of Mercy Church. She was employed at Lucchese Boot Co. for eight years. She is survived by her husband Joe Moya and daughters Yvette Moya and Michelle Carrasco. She is also survived by her sisters Connie Hensler and Ernestina Ontiveros, her brothers Arturo, Armando, Frank and Freddy Neria and many nieces and nephews. Interment was June 2 at Restlawn Cemetery.

Priscilla A. Moya, 62, passed away May 28. She is survived by her sisters —Maryann Mitchell and Irene and her husband Victor Rivera —sister-in-law Maryann Ara-gon and brother Joe Moya. She also is survived by her nieces and nephews Dennis and his wife Becky Mitchell, Larry Mitchell, Yvette Moya, Michelle and her husband Tony Carrasco, Eric, Cindy, Patrick and Tony Rojas, Mike and his wife Cynthia Moya, John and his wife Kathy Moya, Patricia Moya and Steve and his wife Yvette Moya. Funeral Service was June 2 at Kaster-Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home on Dyer.

Margaret Lorene Cowherd Old, 92, passed away May 26. She moved to El Paso when she was 5. She earned a B.A. in art from Texas Western College and was a member of the El Paso Art Association, Texas Fine Arts League and Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was honored by the Pilot Club for her talents as a teacher in the El Paso schools and was retired after many years of service as a 4th-grade teacher at Crockett Elementary School. She is survived by her daughter Shannon Osborne and son-in-law Kenneth Osborne and two grandchildren Daran and Tanner, sister Florence Cowherd Nunnally, seven nieces and nephews, and 11 great-nieces and nephews. Graveside services were June 2 at Restlawn Cemetery.

Ralph A. Murillo Jr., 57, passed away May 31. He was schooled at home once a week until his family won a class-action lawsuit for the right of disabled children, including Ralph, to attend public schools. He began high school at the age of 18 and went on to serve as student council president He attended UTEP and earned a degree in political science and education. He was very active in political and civic activities and worked with his father at The Roadway Inn. He bagan his career with the federal government and went to work for the U.S. Small Business Administration in El Paso, progressing quickly into management and transferred to San Antonio in 1980 to assume the position of assistant district director for Minority Small Business and Capital Ownership Development, which he held until his retirement last year. He is survived by his wife Marinella Murillo, his mother Luz Murillo, his children — Jacob, Laura and Genny — and grandsons Brandon and Isaiah. Interment was at Mission Park South in San Antonio. In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorial donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 78105.

Laura Lee O’Malley, 61, passed away May 4. She was a resident of El Paso for 45 years. She was a great grandmother, an artist, a dancer and a dear friend to many. She is survived by her were children Rolando (Jr.) “Roly” and Martha Pacheco, Earnestina “Tina” and Anthony Bellucco and Benjamin “Ben” Pacheco of New York, NY. Burial was at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Luis Roberto Peña, 37, passed away May 31. He was born in El Paso and had lived in Albuquerque for the past six years. He was a Burges High graduate who earned a degree in civil engineering from UTEP. He was the owner-operator of Pentex Construction Company in Albuquerque and was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s on the Rio Grande. He is survived by his wife Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Winstead Peña, two sons Nicolas and Jonathon, his mother Norma Silvia Peña, siblings — Albert, Carlos, Norma, Laura, Rosa and Silvia. Funeral Mass was June 5 at St. Patrick Cathedral. There were no graveside services. donation in the name of Roberto Peña may be sent to the El Paso Youth Tennis Center, 6633 N. Mesa #601, El Paso, TX 79912.
