WILEY E. GRIGGS

Graveside services for Wiley E. Griggs, 77, of Floydada were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 31, 2007 at the Floydada Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Moore Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

Griggs passed away on Friday, December 28, 2007 at his residence.

He was born on March 30, 1930 in Caprock, TX. to Willie Griggs and Ruby (Smith) Griggs.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Griggs of Floydada; three sons, Kenneth Griggs of Petersburg, Jay Griggs and Kelly Griggs, both of Floydada and four grandchildren.

GERALDINE MOONEY

Funeral services for Geraldine Riggins Mooney, 79, were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2007 at the Sullivan Funeral Home Chapel in Vernon. Interment was held at the Wilbarger Memorial Park under the direction of Sullivan Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mooney died Sunday, December 23, 2007 in Plano,  Texas.

She was born September 21, 1928 in Vernon to the late L. R. Riggins and Geneva Strickland Riggins.

AUDREY SPENCE

Funeral services for Audrey Addline Wood Asher Spence, 86, of Lubbock were at 10 a.m., Friday, December 28, 2007 at First Christian Church, 2323 Broadway, Lubbock, TX. Dr. Jim Woodworth officiated. Kim Clowe assisted and Daryl Berry provided music. Visitation followed at Moore Rose Funeral Home in Floydada from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Interment was in the Floyd County Memorial Park Cemetery at 3 p.m. Services were under the direction of Moore Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.

Audrey passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. She was born August 25, 1921 in Ben Wheeler, TX in Van Zandt County, to Jessie and Lottie Wood. She married James L. Asher in 1942 who preceded her in death on March of 1944. She later married Sam Adrel Spence on April 17, 1948. Audrey served as the Floyd County Treasurer from 1946 to 1956. She began her teaching career in 1961 until retiring in 1989 in Floydada. She received her BS at  Texas Tech in 1961 and her MS degree at Sam Houston State University at Huntsville, TX. Audrey was a member of First Christian Church at Floydada and First Christian Church of Lubbock since 1997. She was also a member of the Airstream Trailer Club from 1967 to present as well as Retired Teachers of  Texas.

She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Sam Spence of Lubbock; a daughter, Mary Katherine Asher Self of Okeechobee, Florida; and a granddaughter, Leslie Self Sharp of St. Thomas, USVI; and several nieces and nephews.

TILLMAN SHIRLEY POWELL

Services were held for Tillman Shirley Powell, 91, who died January 3, 2008 at Medical Center of McKinney.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Flesher Funeral Home of Van Alstyne. Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Howe. Roger Tidwell officiated. Burial was held at Highland Cemetery.

Family visitation was held from 6-7 p.m. Sunday, January 6, 2008.

Surviving are two daughters, Donna Rushing of Howe and Sandy Wiley of Floydada; two sons, Tom Powell of Houston and Warren Powell of Palestine; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Desa Adams of Anna,  Texas and Freida Kimish of Waller,  Texas; and two brothers, Edward Powell of Anna and Kenneth Powell of Floydada.

CHRISTINE BYERLY

Lola Christine Byerly, 98, of Lockney died Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Muleshoe Area Medical Center in Muleshoe, TX.

Lola Christine Byerly was born March 3, 1909 in Troupe, TX to James Henry Palmer and Melissa (Brightwell) Palmer. Christine married Daniel F. Byerly and he preceded her in death on September 9, 1982. She was a long time resident of Lockney until 2007 when she moved to the Parkview Nursing Home in Muleshoe, TX.

Her great love and passion were for raising flowers and cooking/baking for her neighbors and friends. She was an active member of the Lockney First Baptist Church.

Christine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, Christine Rose and Sybil Davis, two sons, Nolan and Luther Byerly and one grandchild, Teresa Byerly,.

Survivors include nine grandchildren, Del Davis and wife, Rosie of Earth, TX; Tammy Underwood and husband, John of Muleshoe, TX; Stacy Lynch and husband, David of Florida; Janice Franklin and husband, Jeffery of  Oklahoma; Mary Rice and husband, Bobby of Houston; Kenneth Byerly, Dorothy Moran, James and John Byerly, all of Colorado; four sisters, Etta Lambert, Vera Mae Myers, Lucille Partain and Ruth Pruitt; ten great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandson.

Family greeted friends Sunday, February 17, 2008 from 1-3 p.m. at Moore Rose Funeral Home in Lockney, TX.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 18, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Lockney. Dr. Carl Moman officated. Burial followed at the Lockney Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Moore Rose Funeral Home of Lockney.

WILLIAM E. GARRETT

William "Bill" Elwyn Garrett, age 92, passed away February 16, 2008. He was born April 14, 1915 in Silverton,  Texas to William Newton Garrett and Eula Fogerson Garrett. He married his loving wife, Olive Cleo Hollingsworth on March 23, 1935 in Canyon,  Texas. They were happily married for 65 years until Cleo passed away in 2000. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Bill is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Don and Carolyn Garrett of San Marcos; two granddaughters, Kelly Garrett of  Washington, D.C. and Jenny Garrett of Lewisville,  Texas; a sister, Betty Mize of Apache Junction, Arizona; a niece, Sally Wimberly of Ruidoso, New Mexico; a nephew, Sam Mize of Ruidoso, New Mexico; and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were held at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 1:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CTMC Hospice.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Thomason Funeral Home, 2001 Ranch Road 12, San Marcos, Tx. (512-396-2300).

ANNA RIVERA

Anna Rivera, 51, of Floydada, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at the Lubbock Heart Hospital in Lubbock, TX.

Rosary services were Friday, March 14, 2008 from 6:00-7:00 p.m., at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Floydada, TX.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church with Fr. Joe Relente officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

Anna was born June 11, 1956 to Roberto Rodriguez and Elvira (Loera) Rodriguez. Anna was a lifetime resident of Floydada. She attended schools in Floydada and graduated from West  Texas State University to receive her BA. She was a teacher for Floydada ISD for twenty-nine years. She served on the Floyd County Child Welfare Board, the Caprock Community Action Center, and the Girl Scouts. She was a member with the Alpha Sigma Phi and the Gamma-Gamma Sorority at the West  Texas State University. She was an active member of the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Floydada. Her favorite pastime was reading. She also truly loved working with young children. She took under her loving care three children: Juan Roberto Rodriguez, Alazai Lizette Vasquez, and Jennifer Ann Rodriguez.

She is survived by her parents: Roberto and Elvira Rodriguez, of Floydada; a son, Arturo Rivera Jr., of Floydada; three brothers, Roberto Rodriguez Jr., of Lubbock, Juan Rodriguez, of San Antonio, and Francisco Rodriguez, of Dallas; two sisters, Maria Antonia Vasquez, of Plainview, and Irene Rodriguez, of Lockney; and a list of other relatives to include nieces and nephews.

JESUSA G. RODRIGUEZ

Jesusa G. Rodriguez, 78, of Floydada passed away on Monday, March 17, 2008 at Mangold Memorial Hospital in Lockney,  Texas.

Jesusa was born on March 8, 1930 in George West,  Texas to Guadalupe and Jesusa (Torrez) Gutierrez. She was married to Teodora Rodriguez.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, two brothers and a sister.

Jesusa's favorite past time was spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a loving homemaker. She was a faithful and devoted church member.

Jesusa is survived by six sons, Teodoro Rodriguez, Jr., of Plainview, Joe Rodriguez and Gilberto Rodriguez, both of Amarillo, Daniel Rodriguez of Florida, Sammy Rodriguez of Slaton and Lee Rodriguez of Grand Prairie; seven daughters, Josie Torrez of Floydada, Elida Perez of Waxahachie, Sylvia Rendon and Belinda McDonald, both of Irving and Rosie Coronado and Mary Rodriguez, both of Lubbock; thirty grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, March 19, 2008 from 7-9 p.m. at the Templo Gethsemani Assembly of God Church in Floydada.

Funeral services will be at Templo Gethsemani Assembly of God Church at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008 with Pastor Ray Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow at the Floydada Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

LARRY DAVID COLTHARP

Larry David Coltharp of Irving passed away on Monday, March 17, 2008 at Baylor Hospital. Graveside services were held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco.

Larry was born May 1, 1942 in Pampa to Anthony Wayne and Hattie Coltharp. He graduated from Floydada High School in 1960 and Baylor University in 1964. He taught English at Richfield High School in Waco and Nimitz High School in Irving for a total of 32 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Wayne and Hattie Coltharp, step-mother, Jewel Coltharp and two brothers, Jimmy and Jerry.

He is survived by his wife, Betsy Coltharp of Irving; daughters, Laura Ewing and husband, Chad of Irving; and Michelle Baxter and husband, David of Irving; grandchildren, Lane Ewing and Levi Ewing; his step-brother, Joe Smally of Lubbock; step-sister, Melba Tate of Lockney and a multitude of friends and admirers.

DAVID "POP" FRIZZELL

David Bertrand Frizzell, 68, of Lockney, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 at his residence in Lockney, TX.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Lockney with Chad Frizzell minister officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Lockney.

David was born July 31, 1939 in the Lone Star community to Jack and Lucille Frizzell. He graduated from Lockney High School in 1957. David married Patricia Anne Crisp in 1958.

David farmed in the Lone Star community for 29 years. He was then employed by Lockney ISD as bus superintendent for 6 years. David was owner of TALA Kennels for 15 years where he was a well known professional dog trainer and guide. He was also a member of First Baptist Church and was a life long supporter of all Lockney Athletics. He was known by most of the community as "Pop".

David was preceded in death by his precious wife, Pat in March 2000, and a son, David Cass in October 1967.

David is survived by one son, Chad Frizzell and wife, Christy of Amarillo; two daughters, Cindy Cotham and husband, Phil of Lockney; Julie Dorman and husband, Johnny of Lockney; mother, Lucille Frizzell of Lockney; and five precious grandchildren, Todd Cotham and Landon Cotham, both of Lubbock; April Dorman of Plainview; Amber Dorman of Canyon; and Kylie Frizzell of Amarillo. David is also survived by three sisters, Jackie Holt and husband, Kenneth of Lockney; Mamba Tibbals and husband, Doug of Wichita, KS; Joy Camden and husband, David of Weatherford, OK; and a host of nieces and nephews that he adored.

Family will greet friends at Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Lockney on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 from 6-8 p.m

FAY HARVEY GOOCH

Fay Harvey Gooch, 91, of Floydada, TX. died on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the BSA Hospice of Amarillo, TX.

Mr. Gooch was born on January 7, 1917 in Lamar, TX. to Harvey Gooch and Elnora (Craven) Gooch. He moved to Floydada from Rotan in 1961. Mr. Gooch attended and graduated from Harrold High School. He married Foye Gayle Lemon on August 16, 1941. She preceded him in death on October 2, 1979. He later married Ruby Owens on August 8, 1981 in Amarillo. He retired from USDA after thirty years of service. Fay served his country in the US Navy. He was a member of the 100F Lodge. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Floydada.

He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Gooch of Floydada; a son, Roger Gooch and wife, Joann of Possum Kingdom; four daughters, Jan Morren and husband, Billy of Azle, Lou Ann Plumlee and husband, Billy of Cordell,  Oklahoma, Millie Burgett of Amarillo and Norma Reeves and husband, Farris of Lefore,  Texas; two brothers, Ray Gooch of Wichita Falls and Stanley Gooch of Hobbs, New Mexico; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-eight greatgrandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.

Family greeted friends at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada on Friday, March 28, 2008 from 5-7 p.m.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Floydada. Reverend Floyd Bradley officiated and Reverend Anthony Sisemore assisted. Burial followed at the Floydada Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.
