Margaret Cook Neel passed away March 20 in Olympia, WA. A memorial service was held on March 25. She enjoyed painting, modeling, cooking and playing bridge and was active in Alpha Gamma Delta, the El Paso Woman's Club and PEO. She is survived by her two sons — Alan Neel II and Jon Neel — and four grandchildren.

Leila Kathleen Craigo, 85, passed away April 1. She retired from UTEP after 34 years where she was an assistant professor in health and physical education. She is survived by her son and daughter- in-law, William H. and Dr. Charlotte Craigo, her daughter and son-in-law, Candace Faye and Kari Kraus and two grandchildren, Aaron and Sara Kraus. Burial was April 5 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Mangum H. (Skeet) Dawson, Sr., 95, passed away March 28. He had been a resident of El Paso for 55 years and worked as a clerk for Southern Pacific Railroad and in the Measurement Department of El Paso Natural Gas Company. Survivors include his son Mangum H. Dawson, his sister Jean Hazelton, two grandchildren — Scott Dawson and Sharla Dawson — and three nephews. Burial was April 2 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Florentina Dearo, 70, passed away April 1. She was a homemaker and San Elizario resident for many years. She is survived by her husband Andres L. Dearo, their children — Jose Rodriguez, Sergio Mendez, Andres Dearo Jr., Alejandro Dearo, Gloria Banda, Sandra D. Flores, Ruby Tellez and Rosa Guerreca — 26 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Burial was April 5 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Doris Lee Dumas, 79, passed away April 3. She had been a resident of El Paso since 1949 and retired from the insurance industry. She is survived by her husband Milton V. Dumas, her daughter Judy D. Morris and four granddaughters — Kimberly M. Felts, Heather M. Reynolds, Tamara L. Morris and Julieanne E. Morris — and one great-grandson Joshua A. Reynolds. Interment was private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested that memorial contributions could be made to the Asthma Association.

Herman F. Etter passed away April 2. He was a World War II Veteran, retired from Southern Pacific Railway and was a resident of El Paso for 62 years. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, children — Gary Etter, Janet Savage and Cheryl Parra — and three grandchildren. Burial was April 9 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Ret. Staff Sergeant Antonio Enriquez Jr., 79, passed away April 1. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1964 and from the El Paso school district in 1986. She was a longtime resident of El Paso and a volunteer for the YWCA, a member of the Daughters of the United States Army, was active with the Rio Grande Girl Scout Council and with the League of Women Voters. She is survived by her children — Barbara Burrell Arpin and her husband Jerry, Diana Burrell Jones and her husband Dennis and Marilyn Kay Burrell — and two grandchildren. A graveside service took place April 30 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Elisa “Licha” Espinosa, 89, passed away April 25. She had been a resident of El Paso since 1918 and was a member of “Las Teresitas” from Sagrado Corazon Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Juan Espinosa, their children — John Espinosa, David Espinosa, Javier Espinosa and Cecilia Ibarra — 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Interment was April 28 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Carlos V. Garay Sr., 72, passed away April 24. He had been a resident of El Paso since 1956, was a member of the Catholic Church and retired owner of Garay’s Concrete. He is survived by his wife Maria de la Luz Garay, their children — Carlos M. Stanley Harris Jaffe, 69, passed away April 24. He was a longtime resident of El Paso who attended Weber College and Texas Western College. He was the past president of B’nai B’rith Men’s Organization, a member of the El Maida Shrine, Lodge 1111 and a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Jewish War Veterans and American Legion. He also served his country during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rhoda, his daughters — Susan Papa, Deborah Cohen, Randi Kishk and Sandra Blackney — and four grandchildren. Graveside service was April 25 at Mt. Sinai Cemetery.

Selden Eldridge “Bud” Heatley, 87, passed away April 19. He attended Cornell and Syracuse Universities, served in World War II and the Korean War as a career officer in the Army Corps of Engineers, and retired in El Paso in 1962. Throughout his life his first love was horses. He and his wife created the Twin Farms thoroughbred horse breeding farm next to Sunland Park Race. He is survived by his wife Annette, children — Jeff and wife Betty, Phil and his wife Shelley — and two granddaughters, Hayley and Lindsay. A memorial service took place on April 25 with military honors. Private interment was in Wading River, NY.

Margaret D. Gough Howard, 63, a former longtime El Paso resident, died April 6. She was a Loretto Academy graduate who served as secretary/treasurer of Cashway Building Materials and was owner/broker of the real estate office at Seven Lakes Country Club in Palm Springs. She is survived by her daughter Valerie Gough Rutledge, her brother Robert Davidson Jr., her grandchildren Austin and Dillyn and stepmother Cecilia Davidson Services were held in Palm Springs, Calif., and burial was at Pipe Creek Cemetery, TX.

Elsie R. Kanof, 82, passed away April 22. She was raised in New York and lived in El Paso since 1957. She donated her time as a volunteer for the Red Cross William Beaumont Army Medical Center, the Fort Bliss Thrift Shop and the Easter Seals. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Irving L. Kanof, her son Brian N. Kanof, her daughter Debra P. Kanof, grandchildren — Lauren M. Kanof and Stuart B. Kanof. She was cremated and her ashes were buried at the National Cemetery at Arlington, Va.

Dorothy B. Lowe, 82, passed away April 25. She attended New Mexico Highlands and was employed in Washington, D.C., in retail management for some years. When she moved to El Paso, she became an executive secretary at the State National Bank until her marriage in 1961 to Joseph Lowe. She was a volunteer in several community organizations focused on children, served as the El Paso Chapter president of the Texas Auxiliary of Professional Engineers and became an active hospice volunteer following her husband’s death. She placed in the Concept II Rowing Machine highest category for seniors when she was 75 and remained an avid walker and naturalist. She is survived by a niece Sally Burrows and a nephew George Byrne Jr. Interment was April 30 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Jonell Elizabeth “Jo” Lowe, 80, passed away April 23. The longtime El Paso resident, attended Calvary Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and retired from Prudential Life Insurance as senior clerk. She is survived by her children — John J. Lowe, Sharon S. Farris and Carol J. Liles — eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Burial was April 27 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Albert A. Malooly, 77, passed away April 24. He was a faithful member of St. George Orthodox Christian Church and a lifelong El Pasoan from a prominent pioneer family. A graduate of Texas A&M University, his studies were interrupted to serve his country in World War II on the Asian front.
He returned to A&M to earn his electrical engineering degree and went on to become a successful developer and builder. He is survived by his wife Selma (Sallie), their children — Albert Malooly, Kenneth Malooly and his wife Karen, his daughter Marilyn and her husband Ken Drahan — and five grandchildren. Burial was April 27 at Restlawn Cemetery on Dyer.

He had been a resident of El Paso since 1978, was a Holocaust survivor, a member of Congregation B'Nai Zion, and was a board member of the Holocaust Museum for many years. He is survived by his stepson Peter Shugart, grandchildren — Ashley Shugart and Fracine Pergricht — and his brothers Zyskind Pergricht and Moritz Pergricht.
