William C. Kincaid Jr., 71, passed away May 15. He had been a resident of El Paso for the past 28 years. Apart from retiring as a master sergeant with the U.S. Air Force, he also retired from the Ysleta Independent School District. He is survived by his wife Ruby, his children — William David, Margaret Fleager and Kimberly Kincaid — and four grandchildren. A graveside service took place on May 18 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors.

Maria T. (Terry) Lopez, 41, passed away May 13. She was a longtime resident of Ysleta. She is survived by her parents Manuel and Juanita Lopez and children Juan G. Lopez and Michelle M. Lopez. Interment was May 18 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Benito Luevano Sr., 70, passed away May 16. He retired from Fedmart where he was the meat market manager and then ran his own Benny’s Butcher Shop for 20 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Beatriz Luevano, children — Benito Luevano Jr. and wife Angelica, Bebe Garcia and husband Leo, Selma Sanchez and husband Joe, George Luevano, James Luevano and wife Angie, Elsa Ramirez and Carlos Luevano and wife Irene — grandchildren Abraham, Celina, Amber, Andrea, Samantha, Charles, Michael, Ashley, Ricardo and Frank. Interment was May 18 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Guadalupe Martinez, 69, passed away May 10. She was a longtime resident of El Paso and was a member of the Catholic Church. She is survived by her children — Jesus Martinez Jr., Luciano Martinez, Angelica Martinez Reyes, Christina Marquez, Martha Zubiate and Irma Arreola — 15 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Interment was May 14 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Lieutenant Colonel US Army (Ret.) Richard John McEvers, 78, died May 13. He was a Naval aviator in WWII. Upon retiring after 28 plus years of military service in 1970, he tried his hand at the printing business, real estate, and oil exploration. His greatest love and passion was his family and the time he spent in New Mexico in the mountains at his cabin. He is survived by his wife Ila Mae, their son Maj. USA Ret. James L. McEvers and wife Susan Sandidge McEvers, grandchildren Julia Anne McEvers; Katherine Martha McEvers and Michael James McEvers and great-grandchild Kelsay Skylin. Other survivors include a daughter from a previous marriage, Susan Castro and her son Jeff. Memorial contributions were suggested in lieu of flowers to Holy Spirit Episcopal Church. A private memorial service took place May 19 at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church.

Maria Montes, 96, passed away May 11. She was a longtime El Paso resident and is survived by children — Pedro Montes Jr., Guadalupe Rios, Petra Garza, Josephina Acuna and Gabriela Morales — 22 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 31 great-great-grandchildren. Burial will be May 15 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Clyde Robert Nelson, 64, of Clint passed away May 13. He was a resident of the El Paso-Ysleta-Clint area for more than 60 years. He served in the U.S. Navy, retired from Dover Elevator Co. with 36 years of service and was an honorary member of Local 131 of the International Union of Elevator Constructors. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Erma Nelson, his children — Clark R. Nelson and wife Pam, John E. Nelson and wife Betty, and Brenda N. Hendryx and husband Houston — and grandchildren, Lindsay Hendryx, Jenny Nelson, Morgan Nelson, Luke Hendryx, Trevor Nelson, Garrett Nelson, and Justin Nelson. Burial was May 17 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clyde R. Nelson/Center for Big Bend Studies Memorial Scholarship (focusing on Archaeology, Preservation and Restoration) c/o Sul Ross State University, P.O. Box C- 114, Alpine, TX 79832, or the Ysleta Retired School Employees Association Scholarship Fund, 2101 Harwood, El Paso, TX 79925.

Elena S. Perry died on May 8. She was born and lived in El Paso for a great portion of her life and was a retired oral surgery assistant. She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Perry and Alice Perry; her grandchildren Cristina Perry-Gonzales, Francisco Gonzales, Armando Gonzales, Fernando Per-ry-Mendoza, Nicolas Perry-Mendoza, Dionisio Perry-Mendoza, Eduardo Perry-Mendoza, and her nieces and nephews Carlos Gil, Gilbert Gil, Vicky Sanchez and Maria Elena Parker. Interment was May 16 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Laura Dean (Perryman) Person, 78, passed away May 13. She graduated from Douglass High School was a member of Phillips Chapel C.M.E. Church. She is survived by her husband Howard, her daughter Anita, grandchildren Monte, Rocky and Dawn — granddaughter- in-law Vicki and great grandsons Oscar and Dustin. Burial was May 17 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

She is survived by her children — Eddy Ramos and wife Alicia, Pedro Ramos and wife Dee, Alfredo Ramos and wife Laura, Danny Ramos and wife Cecilia, Sylvia Mendoza — nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Interment was May 14 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

She is survived by her children — Manuel Alejandro, Peter, Joaquin, Maria Aurora Flowers, Agustin, Javier and Angelina Simmons — and 31 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Interment was May 17 at Evergreen East Cemetery.

Margarita Araiza Rodriguez, 79, passed away May 13. She was a longtime resident of El Paso and a member of the Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband Guadalupe Rodriguez, children — Armando Rodriguez, Jose G. Rodriguez, Eduardo Rodri-guez and Juan Rodriguez, Maria F. Reyes, Maria Lara and Martha Flores — 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Interment was May 17 at Evergreen East Cemetery.

Maria de Jesus Roland, 60, passed away May 15. She once was owner of the Welcome Inn in Anthony, Texas. She was born in Honduras and was a longtime resident of Canutillo and El Paso. She is survived by her mother Maria Roque Lara-Ortega, her children — Mariana E. Lara, Marta Roque Roland, Malika Sara Roland, Maryan Ana Roland and Mario Martin Hernandez — five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. After visitation and Rosary on May, private interment took place in Honduras.

Jose Q. Saenz, 81, passed away May 12. He was a lifetime area resident and WWII veteran. He is survived by his wife Baldomera Saenz, his children — Jose Saenz, Michael Saenz and Bertha Ayala — five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Interment was May 16 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery East Shelter.

Laura Woodson Sharp, 103, passed away May 7. She lived in El Paso for 50 years and was a member of First Baptist Church of El Paso. She is survived by her niece, Lilla Schmeltekopt and numerous nieces and nephews, great- and great-great-grandnieces and nephews. Graveside service was at May 16 at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Andres P. Tellez, 84, passed away May 9. He served his country during WWII and was retired from White Sands Missile Range and was a member of VFW Post 4384. While serving his country, he was captured by Germans in North Africa and served 26 months in a Nazi prison camp in Poland. He is survived by his wife Esperanza Tellez, their children — Irene Holguin, Patsy Putney, Bonnie Sloan and husband Robert, Sylvia Wallace, and Marylou Garces and husband Arturo — nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Interment was May 15 at Saint Anthony’s Cemetery.

Horacio Villanueva, 75, passed away May 14. He was a resident of El Paso and was a newspaper publisher in Juarez and El Paso. He is survived by his children — Horacio Villanueva, Carlos Villanueva, Fernando Villanueva, Rosa Carnero, Norma Bugarin, Margarita Lopez and Ivonne Estrada — 29 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his mother Carmen Bonilla Villanueva and his brothers Jesus Jose Villanueva, Leopoldo Villanueva and Hector Villanueva. Interment was May 17.

ISG Lawrence Williams, U.S.A. (Ret.), 60, passed away May 9, 2001. He was a resident of El Paso for 24 years and was employed with the Civil Service as a supervisor of ammunition. He served for 25 years in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era and was the recipient of many medals. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Cheryl Williams, their children — Lawrence Williams Jr. and his wife Brenda, Kim L. Williams and Linda E. Kincaid — and four grandchildren. Interment was May 15 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors.

Kathryn Elizabeth Ha-gendoorn Waugh, passed away May 13. A memorial service took place on May 16 at Faith Presbyterian Church. Olga Jabalie Cook, 93, passed away May 15. She was born in Zahle, Lebanon, and was past president of the El Paso Syrian American Ladies Club. She is survived by her sister Henaine Kadry, her stepson and daughter-in-law Keith and Linda Cook, nephews Halem Ayoub and Joseph Jabalie and nieces Rose Wardy, Lilly Hasbani, Virginia Jabalie, Lorraine Jabalie, Angele Nabhan and Theresa Nabhan. Burial was May 18 in Evergreen East Cemetery.

Laureen French Butler, 71, passed away Dec. 25. She attended the University of New Mexico where she majored in voice. She was a charter member of El Paso Opera and the first president for the group’s first opera production of “Tosca” in 1994. She is survived by her husband Robert O. Butler, children — Robert Lee Butler and Owen William Butler and wife Sandra Butler, Christine Ellen Peary, Corée Butler Shipley and husband Michael Shipley, Mary Evalyn Monroe — granddaughters Candace Smith, Claire Butler Shipley and grandson Jacob Monroe. A funeral Mass was held Jan. 5 at St. Raphael Catholic Church. The family suggested memorials to El Paso Opera or to a favorite charity.

Narca Nell Duncan passed away Jan. 1. She moved to El Paso with her husband in 1955, where he joined the Kemp, Smith, Duncan and Hammond Law Firm. She was a member of the Junior League of El Paso, was an accomplished artist who was active in the El Paso Art Association and had taught art history at UTEP. She was a contractor of custom homes for a number of years under the company name of Coronado Homes. She is survived by her sons Scott Duncan and wife Marsha, Bryan Duncan and wife Linda, Bruce Duncan and wife Jeane and 13 grandchildren. Interment was Jan. 4 at Memory Gardens of the Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations were suggested to the International Museum of Art, 1211 Montana.

James Blake Hayden, 25, passed away Jan. 4. He was born in Mayfield, Ky., and stationed in El Paso by the Army in 1994. He is survived by his wife Michelle Hayden, daughter Cellaya Sara Hayden, parents James Edward and Janice Fay Hayden, and brothers James Timothy Hayden, James Rodney Hayden and James Kent Hayden. Burial service was Jan. 9 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Marjorie Haddad, 70, passed away Dec. 30. She was a member of First Christian Church of El Paso and retired from civil service. She also was founder and director of Memorial Center Senior Choir and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She is survived by her husband George, an aunt Annie Mae Davis, as well as many cousins and an abundance of friends. A labyrinth walk and memorial service took place Jan. 5 at First Christian Church.

Scott (“Scotty”) Reed Johnson, 51, passed away Dec. 30. He attended Burges High School, served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict and traveled throughout North America to experience the adventures that life had to offer as a salmon fisherman in the Pacific Northwest, a chef at ski resorts in Banff Alberta, Canada, a leather craftsman in the Southwest, a Mexican restaurant owner in Fort Collins, Colo., a music store owner, a dramatic actor, a stand-up comedian, an author, a teacher, a cross-country guide and a casino games dealer in Nevada and New Mexico. He is survived by his daughter Sarah Feldberg, parents A.M. “Swede” and Mary Johnsen, brother Dr. Guy Johnsen and wife Kathy, sister Carolyn Johnsen and husband Richard Nye, favorite niece Erin Johnsen and favorite nephew Mark Johnsen. Graveside service was Jan. 7 at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Capt. James G. Klaes Jr., 81, passed away Dec. 31. He was a decorated WWII and Korean War Veteran who served 20 years in the Army and 30 years in civil service. He served as deputy director of the Air Defense School at Fort Bliss. After retiring from the Army, he received his B.A. degree from Texas Western College and his master’s from UTEP. He is survived by his wife Frances Klaes, son James Klaes III, daughter Eugenia Karam and husband Ferris, daughter-in-law Gerrie Klaes, sister Rose Mary Klaes, brothers Francis, Bill and Bob Klaes, four grandchildren and great grandson Devin Klaes. Interment was Jan. 4 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.

Lowell “Ike” Dean Ragsdale, 72, passed away Dec. 29. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso and a retired civil service radar missile technician who served in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife Geraldine Ragsdale, sons Daniel E. Ragsdale and David L. Ragsdale, grandson David A. Ragsdale, brother J.J.W. Ragsdale and sisters Helen L. Rushing and Virginia Weaver. Interment was Jan. 3 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.

Elena Robles, 58, passed away Dec. 30. She was a certified nurse assistant at Sierra Medical Center.
