MARTIN MERCADO

Martin Mercado, 60, of Floydada passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 in Lubbock,  Texas.

Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, September 13, 2008 at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home Chapel in Floydada. Pastor David Mercado officiated.

Interment followed at the Floyd County Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

Martin was born December 5, 1947 in Mission,  Texas to Jesus Mercado and Estefana (Mendez) Mercado.

Local survivors include one brother, Sammy Mercado and wife, Olivia of Floydada.

VALRIE VICK

Valrie Vick, 83, of Plainview departed this life on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Prairie House Living Center in Plainview.

Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, September 19, 2008 at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2008 at City Park Church of Christ in Floydada,  Texas with Elder Herb Purdon of Garland St. Church of Christ in Plainview officiating. Burial will follow at Floyd County Memorial Park under the direction of Moore Rose Funeral Home in Floydada.

Mrs. Vick was born August 29, 1925 in Paragould, Arkansas to Edgar Miller and Onia (Turner) Miller.

She married Harlie Harvard Vick on September 5, 1944 in Liberty, Arkansas. They were blessed with six children, Lloyd, Doyle, Kevin, Linda, Janet and Kathy. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Valrie was a homemaker and member of City Park Church of Christ in Floydada.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harlie Vick and an infant, Norman Don Vick.

She is survived by three sons; Lloyd Edmond Vick of Floydada, Doyle Vick and his wife, Cindy of Garland, and Kevin Vick of Sun Valley, California; three daughters; Linda Mallow and husband George of Plainview; Janet  Jones and husband, Bob of Milden Hall, England and Kathy Sanford and husband, Mark of Princeton; twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

JOSEPHINE DAVIS

Josephine Davis died Friday, September 26, 2008 at her residence at Harrington Assisted Living in Amarillo.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 29, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church Chapel in Floydada. Rev. Les Hall officiated. Burial followed at the Floyd County Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Moore - Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

Josephine was born in Forestburg, Montague County,  Texas, June 9, 1916 to Lizzie and J.F. Wylie. She was married 58 years to William Lawrence Davis. She lived most of her life in Floydada until moving to Amarillo in 2000. Jo was a homemaker, Eastern Star 50 year lifelong member and a member of First United Methodist Church of Floydada. She had a passion for traveling with Lawrence, and they visited all 50 states except Florida

Preceded in death by husband Lawrence, son, Norman Davis and his wife, Betty, 4 sisters and 3 brothers.

Survivors include one daughter, Lana Dempsey and husband, Bob of Amarillo; granddaughters Shayla Ally and husband, Eric of Frisco, Eden Gunzinger and husband, Kurt of Amarillo, and Lindsey Wing and husband, Brandon of Humble; grandson Tony Davis and wife, Christina of Lubbock; seven great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family expresses sincere appreciation to staff at Harrington for the past nine months, Dr. Larry Griffith and special cousins, Henry and Betty Davis of Amarillo.

A memorial in her honor will be placed in the Park Place Towers Retirement Center.

RONALD GLEN TYLER

Ronald Glen Tyler, 58, of Amarillo (formerly of Floydada), died Wednesday, September 24, 2008.

Memorial services were held Sunday, September 28, 2008 at Soncy Beach at Hester and Cliffside roads in Amarillo.

Arrangements were under the direction of Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors in Amarillo.

Mr. Tyler was born on August 23, 1950 in Floydada to A. G. and Willadean Tyler. He worked in sales at Cumulus Broadcasting.

Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Gill of Amarillo; two grandsons; an aunt, Cecelia  Jones of Bangs; grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Wylie Rogers of Floydada and the late Reverend and Mrs. Tyler and several cousins.

SAM WHITE

Sam  White,42, of Tulia passed away on September 29, 2008 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the First Baptist Church in Tulia with Rev. James Hassell officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

Sam was born on March 3, 1966 in Plainview to George and LaCrecia  White. He grew up in Petersburg and graduated from Petersburg High School in 1984. He then attended Western  Texas in Snyder. He farmed for several years in the Petersburg area. He married Pam Gregory on January 3, 1987 in Petersburg. They moved to Cotton Center in 1989 before moving to Tulia in 1993.

He worked for Wrangler Feed Yard, B & R Thriftway, and then at the Prison for 3 years. He went through the Police Academy at Amarillo College. He served as a reserve police officer in Tulia before being hired full-time. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he sang in the choir, attended the Adult 5 Sunday school class, and he was a member of the Tulia Booster Club.

Survivors include his wife Pam  White of Tulia; a daughter, Sarah  White of Tulia; two sons, Malcolm  White and Hayden  White of Tulia; one brother, Tom  White of Plainview; a sister, Marcha Korene  White of Lubbock; his mother and step-father, LaCrecia and Glenn Schumacher; grandmother, Bertha Denis of Tomball; three nieces and one nephew.

A visitation was held on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.

WILMA J. BROWN

Wilma Holcomb Brown, age 87, passed away on October 13, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Lockney with Gene Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow at Lockney Cemetery. The family received guests at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 from 6-7 p.m.

Wilma Juanita Holcomb was born on August 21, 1921 to Charlie Holcomb and Verna (Roberts) Holcomb in Coryell County,  Texas. She married Claude Brown on April 12, 1942 in Plainview. The couple enjoyed over 66 years of matrimony. Wilma was active for more than 48 years owning and operating Brown's Department Stores in Lockney. She was a hard working lady who cherished her family and enjoyed spending her free time with them. She served as a board member of Hospice Hands of West  Texas, aided with the Reading Buddy Program at the elementary school, was a avid grandson fan, and enjoyed time away fishing. Wilma was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lockney.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Verna and her son-in-law, Bill Race.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, Claude Brown and her daughter, Ann Brown Race, both of Lockney; her grandsons, Karl Race and wife, Sharon and their children, Matthew and Danae, of Levelland and Randy Race and wife, Robin and their children, Rayann and Ryder of Lockney; her brothers, Eddie and Norman Holcomb; her sister, Sally Smoot; and many dear friends that were like family.

Memorial donations may be made in Wilma Brown's name to the Lockney Senior Citizens, P.O. Box 82, Lockney,  Texas 79241.

BERNICE BUCHANAN

Bernice Buchanan, 94, of Lubbock, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 13, 2008 in Lubbock.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2008, at Community Christian Church in Lubbock. Entombment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Thursday from 6-7 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home.

Bernice was born on June 11, 1914, to Boy and Emma (Vlazny) Wright in Lamar, Missouri. She married John Buchanan on July 26, 1933, in Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 1, 2007.

Bernice owned the Colonial House in Floydada and served the Lion's Club and Rotary Club for many years. She worked as a foster parent for the  Texas Youth Council from 1968 to 1976. She was a faithful member of the Community Christian Church in Lubbock.

Bernice is survived by two daughters: Karen Bedell of El Paso, and Nancy Hagood and husband, Dan of Lubbock; seven grandchildren: Brad Hagood, Janie Campbell, Kelly Ann Fischer, Blake Bedell, Blair Bedell, Paige Wingfield, and Patrice Bedell; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel Weston, and a grandson, Hunter Jennings Hagood, in November of 2007.

The family wishes memorials to be made to Community Christian Church at 3417 96th Street, Lubbock, Texas 79423.

MARGIE CRUMP

Services for Margie Crump, 91, of Ralls were held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 12, 2008 in the Ralls First Baptist Church. Rev. Floyd Haddock, Rev. Larry Carson and Rev. Ken Bevel officiated. Burial followed in the Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.

Margie passed away Thursday, October 9, 2008 at VistaCare Center in Lubbock. She was born July 16, 1917 in Paris,  Texas to the late George M. and Lizzie Elizabeth (Vails) James. On July 20, 1935 she married Edmond Crump in Floydada. He passed away on March 20, 2007.

Margie was a member of the Ralls First Baptist Church and a homemaker. She loved being outdoors. Margie also enjoyed quilting and was a former member of the Prairie Thimble quilting club. Margie and Edmond, were honored as the Ralls Chamber of Commerce Mr. & Mrs. Cotton Boll in 1999. Her family was very special to her.

She is preceded in death by a brother; Dan James in 1993.

Survivors include; two daughters; Sandra Roye and her husband Dwight of Ralls, Ruth McMillan of Arlington, two grandsons and their wives; Bart and Tami Roye of Ransom Canyon, Barron and Kandra Roye of Ralls, four great grandchildren; Ashleigh Roye, Lindsi Roye, Brinson Roye and Kensley Roye.

The family received friends Sunday from 1:00 PM to service time at the church.

The family suggests memorials to the Ralls Cemetery Chapel Fund 801 Ave. I Ralls,  Texas 79357, The Ralls First Baptist Church P. O. Box 667 Ralls,  Texas 79357 or VistaCare Hospice 1717 Norfolk Bldg. A 4th Floor Lubbock,  Texas 79416.

Serving as pallbearers will be; Bart Roye, Barron Roye, Bill Gilbreath, George Pierot, Santos Mata and Don Crump.

Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Adams, Bob Wideman and Allan Adams.

BERTHA SIMS DENIS

Bertha Sims Denis, 87, of Tomball passed away on Monday, October 6, 2008 at her residence. Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Reverend Kyle Brock, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church officiated. Burial followed in Plainview Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstonoe Funeral Directors of Plainview.

Bertha was born on October 9, 1920 in Leonard,  Texas to George and Mamie Sims. She grew up in Lockney and graduated from Lockney High School in 1939. She was a mother and homemaker while her kids were young. She worked at Golden Cafe in Lockney. She later worked for the Holiday Inn for many, many years in Plainview and Lubbock. She was a Protestant.

Survivors include three daughters, LaCreica Schumacher and husband, Glenn of Plainview, Darla Ramby of Tomball and Charlotte Rinehart and husband, Douglas of Glendale, Arizona; one son, Joe Williams of Huntsville; two sisters, Mildred Reeves of Ojai, California, Jerry Johnston of Plainview; one brother, Wendelle J. Sims of Del Rio; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Sam  White; her parents, George and Mamie Sims and a sister, Helen Maxcine Sims.

Memorial contributions may be made in Memory of her Grandson, Sam  White to: American Cancer Society or the Compassionate Care Fund of the First Baptist Church, 101 N. Crosby, Tulia, TX. 79088.
