CHAVEZ
Mr. Ralph Chavez Jr., born February 27, 1928 died April 9, 2006 at the age of 78. Mr. Chavez was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the San Antonio Rose Society and the National Association of Federal Employees.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rafael and Manuela V. Chavez; sisters: Alicia Chavez and Gloria I. Castillo; mother-in-law, Maria de Refugia Sanchez. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Eva Sanchez Chavez; brother, Adolfo Chavez and his family; sister, Socorro Garza; father-in-law, Nicanor Sanchez, Sr.; brother-in-law, Nick Sanchez Jr. and wife Ana Maria; numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:00 P.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be offered Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery No.2.
Pallbearers: Nick Sanchez III, Carlos M. Sanchez, Nacho Garcia, Pierre Sanchez, Oscar Castillo, Roberto Zapata. Honorary Pallbearers: His brothers in Christ from Northwest Urban Deanery ACTS.

Sincere thanks to the hospital staff and doctors at Methodist (Medical Center) Third Floor (Central Tower) for the care given to Mr. Chavez during his illness. And also a special thanks to all of the family, friends, and neighbors for all of the prayers and support given to Mr. Chavez during his short illness, god bless you all.

CORTES
Mr. Joseph George Cortes age 56 of San Antonio died Tuesday, April 15, 2003. Mr. Cortes is survived by aunts, cousins and many loving friends. Rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the Angelus Chapel. Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 10:00 A.M. at the Chapel of the Incarnate Word. CANTU
Mr. Arturo Cantu age 58 of San Antonio went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 29, 2003. Mr. Cantu was preceded in death by his son, Steven Gray; parents: Andres and Trinidad Cantu and brother, Carlos Cantu. He is survived by his wife, Alicia Cantu; sons: Michael Arthur Cantu and Mark Aaron Cantu; sisters: Severa Vasquez, Diana Garcia, Estela Martinez and husband Antonio, Beatrice Cantu; Lupe Escalante and husband Aurelio; brothers: Andres Cantu Jr., Raul Cantu and wife Nicole, Edward Cantu and wife Laura, Gilbert Cantu and wife Lela; father-in-law, Victor Ramirez; sister-in-law, Carolina Guzman and husband Mike; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Rosary will be recited Wednesday evening at 7:30 P.M. at the Angelus Chapel. Funeral Mass will be offered Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at San Jose Mission. BUBEL
Mrs. Catherine P. Bubel age 78 of San Antonio died Saturday, April 3, 2004. Mrs. Bubel was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Bubel II and a daughter, Susan D. Bubel McCormick. She is survived by her children: George F. III and Grace Bubel, Michael A. and Michele Bubel, Christopher J. and Linda Bubel, Mark A. Bubel, Mary and William Smith, Christopher McCormick Bubel; grandchildren: Christopher, Amy, Samantha, Madison, Phoebe, Caleb, and Elizabeth; great-grandchildren: Adrian and Susan; sisters: Annie Correa and Beatrice Garza; brothers: Jesse Garza and Tony Garza; numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary will be recited Tuesday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the Angelus Chapel. Funeral Mass will be offered Wednesday at 9:00 A.M. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. GARCIA
Arthur Garcia entered into rest on August 5, 2004 at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Garcia; his parents, Jesus and Julia Garcia; brothers, Joe, Gilbert, Eugene, and Paul Garcia, and his sister, Mary Hansen. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years; Rosie Garcia; his son, Rick Garcia and wife Holly; grandson, Steven Garcia; loving sister, Julia Medina and family; and brother, Robert Garcia and family. Rounding out the rest of his family, sisters in law, Kathleen Flores, Cecilia and husband, Manuel Zertuche and their family, Anita Estrada and family, and brother in law, Pete Flores Jr. and family.
Arthur was born on July 2, 1923 in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Fox Tech High School, later volunteered and proudly served in the Army-Air Force during WW II. Air conditioning and refrigeration was his trade. He worked at BAMC, Fort Sam, and Lackland AFB as a refrigeration Mechanic for 27 years. After retiring, he taught at St. Philips College until his second retirement. Arthur was very involved with Little League Baseball coaching at St. Theresa’s Academy and for Highland Park. He also enjoyed fishing, baseball, camping, and traveling with his family. Arthur will be greatly missed by all his family and everybody that knew him.
Visitation will begin on Sunday, August 8, at 6:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at the Angelus Chapel. Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, August 9, at 9:30 AM at Holy Name Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.

ARCOS
Mr. Fred F. Arcos age 54 of San Antonio died Tuesday, August 17, 2004. Mr. Arcos was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline F. Arcos and a niece, April Arcos. He is survived by his father, Raul C. Arcos; daughter, Juliet C. Williams and husband John; beloved friend and mother of his only daughter, Christine Padilla; sisters: Jessie Mae Casares and husband Gilbert, Lupita Corona, Pauline Estrada and husband Ruben, Yolanda Villalobos and husband Victor, Romain Flores and husband Israel; brothers: Rudy Torres of New York, Roy Arcos and wife Yolanda, Tommie Arcos; granddaughters: Amber and Amanda Williams; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.
Visitation will begin Sunday at 1:00 P.M. in the Angelus Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be offered Monday at 9:00 A.M. at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.

ACOSTA
Arthur Paul Acosta went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2006 at the age of 61. He was a great husband, father, brother and grandfather; very loving and will be missed dearly. Mr. Acosta was preceded in death by his son, Andrew Acosta and parents, Marcelo and Maria Polanco Acosta. He is survived by his loving wife, Maria Socorro Acosta and caring children, John Acosta, Arthur Paul Acosta, Julie Charles (Leonard), Michael Acosta (Arlene), Robert Acosta (Mirtha), Gilbert Acosta (Rebecca), and Joseph Acosta (Claudia); 20 grandchildren; 3 brothers, Marcelo, Lorenzo and Jesse Acosta; as well as 3 sisters, Luisa Garza, Anita Viera and Beatrice Acosta; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at 7:00 P.M. at the Angelus Chapel. Funeral Service will be offered on Thursday, April 13, 2006 at 9:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church – South San. Interment will follow in San Fernando Cemetery No. 3.

BONILLA
Mr. Alfred R. Bonilla age 81 of San Antonio died Tuesday, April 22, 2003. Mr. Bonilla served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was one of the few men to survive 9 battle fronts. He is survived by his wife, Alma T. Bonilla; son, Alfred R. Bonilla Jr. and wife Carol Sue; daughter, Debbie Sigoloff and husband Bruce; sisters: Hortense King and Josephine O'Rourke; brother, Luis F. Bonilla; grandchildren: Kelly James and wife Angelique, Kristopher Scott and wife Roslyn, Bryan Clayton and Sarah Deanne; great-grandchildren: Lindsey Taylor and Kaylor James; numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the Angelus Chapel. Funeral Mass will be offered Friday at 9 :00 A.M. at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.

DELGADO
Alfred “Sonny” O. Delgado age 81 of San Antonio passed away on Friday, August 20, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lily Delgado. Alfred is survived by his son, Ronnie Delgado (Anna); sisters, Olivia D. Garcia (Conrad) and Mary Louise Bernal; grandsons, Marcos L. Delgado (Jackie) and Charles L. Delgado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday evening, August 23, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at The Angelus Chapel. Procession will depart on Tuesday, August 24, at 8:00 AM from The Angelus Chapel with the Funeral Mass to be offered at 8:30 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with military honors.

CORTESINI
John Ray Cortesini, 53, formerly of Portsmouth, VA and currently residing in San Antonio, TX, passed away May 21, 2004 in Montgomery, AL. A Virginia native, he was the son of the late Edward P. and Mary Frances Bullock Cortesini. He was a Program manager for 3D/International and a US Naval Veteran. John was a member and former president of the Portsmouth Jaycees. He is survived by two daughters, Christy Cortesini and Chrislyn Cortesini both of Portsmouth, brother, Mark Cortesini of St. Robert, MO, sister, Wanda Salmon and husband Jack of Chesapeake, fiance', Carol Skogh of Orange, CA, aunt and uncle, Tennie and Nellie Russell and aunt, Edith Didonato.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Angelus Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, June 1, 2004 from 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Children's Hospital of the Kings Daughters, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk, VA 23510.

EDELEN
Lt. Col (Retired) Joseph Ruey Edelen, USAF, KC*SG, K of C, of San Antonio went to be with his Lord and wife of 66 years on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the age of 89 years. He was a resident of The Village at Incarnate Word.
Joe was born to Mildred Marie Middleton Edelen and Philip Barton Edelen on August 8, 1921 in Greensboro, NC. He attended one year of college in Raleigh, NC before entering the Army Air Corps on October 4, 1940. He completed flight school and was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in 1943. On September 7, 1943, he married Marilyn Jane Weber at St. Mary's Catholic Cathedral in Belleville, IL. They then lived in many different parts of the country and the world where they raised their 10 children.
Between 1940 and 1943, Joe was stationed in Illinois, Florida, South Dakota and New York. In 1943 and 1944 during WWII, he flew C-47 and B-25's supplying US troops on the frontlines over China, Burma and India and flew close air support for the Gurka troops. When he returned stateside, he was stationed at Scott Field in Belleville, IL, Louisiana and Langley AFB in Virginia. In 1947 he was stationed with his family in Tokyo and Nagoya, Japan and then on to Ephrata and Tacoma, Washington. In 1953 and 1954, the family lived in Belleville, IL while Joe was stationed in Iceland. When he returned in 1954, they moved to Spokane, WA. In 1957 they were in Ocean Drive Beach, SC for nearly two years. Then it was on to Istanbul, Turkey in 1959 to 1961. Their final Air Force move was to USAF Security Service, Kelly AFB where he was Deputy Commander of the Cryptologic Depot where he was responsible for classified Air Force and the Air Force One secret communications worldwide. They lived there until 1965 when Joe retired from the USAF as a Lt. Colonel with 26 years of active service. In San Antonio, Joe and Marilyn and their children lived on John Page Avenue and E. Sunshine Dr. before moving to Sterling Green Dr. and then to The Village at Incarnate Word in Dec. 2008.
Following his retirement from the US Air Force, Joe dedicated 22 years of service to the Archdiocese of San Antonio with his final position as the Superintendent of Cemeteries. During Joe's time in San Antonio, he was President of both St. John Berchmann and Providence High School PTA‘s. He was also a past president of the Central Catholic High School PTO; a member of the Marianist Affiliates and the Knights of Columbus No. 786. He was first knighted into the Pontifical Order of the Knights of St. Gregory in 1977 and became Knight Commander in the Knights of St. Gregory in 1993 and elevated to Knight Commander with Star in 2005. He also served as the President of the Knights of St. Gregory, the Serra Club of San Antonio and National, the Marianist Lay Affiliates of the Society of Mary; and he was a member of the Pillars of the Cathedral, and the Alhambra's - Bejar Caravan No. 56. In Spokane, WA, he was a member of the Elks Club Lodge 228. He also served with the St. Bernadette Holy Family Guild. In addition to these activities, he enjoyed being a parish Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and a delegate to Serra International conventions.
In 1987 Joe was the coordinator for Papal security and transportation in San Antonio for the visit by Pope John Paul II and during that visit he and Marilyn were blessed with a personal visit with the Pope. In 1999 Joe received Pope John Paul II's "Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice" award. He and Marilyn traveled to Rome where they had a second audience with Pope John Paul II.
He and his beautiful and devoted wife of 66 years began RVing in the early 1970's until 2004. They enjoyed visiting family around the country. They also traveled to Alaska, Mexico, Canada, Europe and the Holy Land. Joe was also an avid gardener and loved the out-of-doors.
The death of his wife, Marilyn, in May, 2010 broke his heart. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, the Rev. Philip B., Ernest F., Algernon W. and L. Neale Edelen (all of which served in WWII and 2 brothers killed in action) and grandson, Robert Edelen. Joe is survived by his 10 children and their families: Joseph R., Jr. (Mary), Vermillion, SD; Gregory M. (Lauren), Alice, TX; Nancy M. Brown (LTC (R) Douglas), San Antonio; Rev. Thomas P., Trinity, TX; John W. (Gianella), St. Joe, AR; Col (Ret) Philip B. III (Clare), Redington Shores, FL; Mary Elizabeth Lane (Kent) , Hot Springs, AR; Christopher C. (Joan), San Antonio; Paul H (Nancy), New Braunfels, TX; and Richard A. (Dr. Rachel), Rapid City, SD.
He is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by 3 very special sisters-in-law: Janice Kaiser of Belleville, IL; Lillian Edelen, Lawrenceville, GA and Clara Edelen, Chula Vista, CA and many nieces and nephews. Joe is also survived by 2 first cousins, Sister Mary Helen Edelen and Sister Anne Joseph Edelen of Emmitsburg, Md.
Joseph Edelen was devoted to his Church, his Family and his Country. A Rosary with visitation will be held on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 7 pm at the University Chapel of the Incarnate Word on the campus of the University of the Incarnate Word, and a funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Helotes on Monday, August 30, 2010 at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in San Antonio.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joseph R. Edelen's name and sent to the Joseph R. and Marilyn Edelen Family Scholarship at Central Catholic High School, 1403 N. St. Mary's Street, San Antonio, TX 78215, where the 8 Edelen boys graduated from high school. The scholarship fund is used to educate deserving young men and was established by Joe and Marilyn in the 1990’s.

GARZA
Mr. Edward Marsch Garza, Sr. went to be with our Heavenly Father, Thursday, August 19, 2004 at the age of 73. Mr. Garza was a graduate of Southwest Texas State University and was a retired teacher from Alan Shepherd Middle School. He was preceded in death by a son, Anthony P. Garza and a daughter, Rose Marie Garza. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Delia D. Garza; children: Edward M. Garza, Jr. and wife Dalia, Delilah B. Livingston and husband David, Delia B. Duty and husband Douglas, Mark Alan Garza and wife Christine; brothers: Emil, George, Joe, James, and Robert; grandchildren: Roxanne, Teresa, Lisa, Annie, Sue, and Sebastian; great-grandchildren: Gabrielle, Edward, and Isabel.
Visitation will begin Sunday at 5:00 P.M. in the Angelus Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be offered Monday at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery No.2.

ESPINOZA
Theresa "Momo" Prado Espinoza, our beloved Angel, Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, entered into the hands of our Lord on February 6, 2004. She was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Maria De Jesus Cal Verde Prado and her brothers, Martin, Joe, and Isidore Prado. Theresa is survived by her brother Manuel Prado and sisters, Rosie Setien and Lupe Salinas. She was born in San Antonio, TX on March 7, 1926. After graduating from Fox Tech High School in May, 1945, her Mother passed away and she was left to care for her younger siblings as the older brothers served their Country in the military during World War II. She met and married our father, Manuel Espinoza Sr. married on December 31, 1950 and they celebrated 53 years of marriage this past New Year's Eve. Together they started their family. Sons, Daniel Espinoza and wife Felice, Manuel Espinoza Jr. and wife Diane, David Espinoza, Albert Espinoza and wife Norma, Martin Espinoza and wonderful, loving daughter Martha Espinoza. Momo's real love in life were her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The grandchildren are: Denise Hinchman and husband Matt, Daniel Anthony Espinoza and wife Amanda, Monica Espinoza, Jason Espinoza, Albert Rene Espinoza, Amanda Espinoza and Jacob Terry Espinoza. Great-grandchildren are: Samantha Lowery, aubrey Hinchman and Kaela Hinchman. Momo was a faithful member of St. John Berchmans Parish and shared her faith, hope and love with everyone she knew. Those wishing to attend services, arrangements have been made through Angelus Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 11, at the Angelus Chapel. Funeral Mass will be offered at San Fernando Cathedral at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, February 12th, 2004. Interment will follow in San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery No. 2.

FAZ
Mrs. Asencion "Emma" Faz, devoted wife, beloved mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of our Lord, was born on March 25, 1922 in New Braunfels, Tx., entered the kingdom of heaven surrounded by her children on Saturday morning, February 7, 2004. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Ignacio Faz and is survived by 2 sisters; 2 brothers; 5 daughters, Maria Faz Ramos, Elida Faz Hernandez, Josey Faz, Rose Faz Rodriguez and Jane Faz Bernal; sons-in-law, Frank Bernal and Robert O. Rodriguez, Jr.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will begin Tuesday at 12:00 P.M. at the Angelus Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be offered Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at Martin de Porres Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

FERNANDEZ
Our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Herminia Vina Fernandez, of Villaldama, N.L., Mexico, went to be with our heavenly Father on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 at the age of 95. The Matriarch of the Fernandez family was born April 2, 1908 to Julio Vina and Guadalupe B. Vina. Herminia was the last of her generation, the fifth of seven children. Herminia was devoted to her husband Oscar and worked with him first at their grocery store at 1434 Chihuahua St. from 1933-1945. Their next business was Fernandez Drug Store at 1900 Guadalupe St. which they owned and operated for 44 years. Herminia was known to her friends as "Minnie" or "Minita". She raised her family in an atmosphere of love, and faith in our heavenly Father. A gentle and giving person by nature, she taught her children a love for life and the importance of family unity. Minita was an active member of the Guadalupana Society at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, and in her later years she did volunteer work at the Holy Rosary Senior Citizen Center, of which she was a member. All of those who were fortunate enough to know her, were touched by her unwavering faith in God and her genuine willingness to help all those in need. She fullfilled God's will on earth and is now in the presence of her maker. Descansa en paz madrecita. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Oscar Trevino Fernandez. Herminia will be lovingly remembered by her children, Idalia (Ida) F. Sauceda and husband Anastasio, Gloria F. Ferruzzi and husband Robert, Oscar Fernandez Jr. and wife Elba, Manuel V. Fernandez and wife Rachel, and Rosa F. De Leon and husband Reynaldo; grandchildren, Claudia L. Marcous, Guillermo, and Carlos A. Sauceda, Giancarlo and Marco A. Ferruzzi, Oscar R. and Oscar Anthony Fernandez, Victor, Veronica, and Sandra Fernandez, Reynaldo, Rogelio (Roger), and Ruben De Leon; great-grandchildren, Natalie D. Sauceda, Giancarlo and Isabella Ferruzzi, David and Mark Fernandez, Giancarlo M. Fernandez and Jordan Guerrero, Adrian, Victoria, Erica, and Ruben A. De Leon; a very special nephew and god-son Humberto (Bo) Garcia and wife Guadalupe. Rosary will be recited Thursday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the Angelus Chapel. Funeral Mass will be offered Friday at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 159 Camino Santa Maria (next to St. Mary's University). Interment will follow at San Fernando Archdiocesan Cemetery No.2. The family would like to thank everyone at St. Francis Nursing Home for the care and compassion they provided for Mrs. Fernandez.
