Annie McAnally, 69

Annie Elizabeth Stewart McAnally, 69 of Brady, passed away on Monday, Aug. 27, 2001 in San Angelo.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29 at First United Methodist Church, Rev. Sheldon Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Rest Haven Cemetery under the direction of Leatherwood Memorial Chapels.

Born June 5, 1932 in Mercury, she was the daughter of Joseph Damon Stewart and Sallie (Cox) Stewart.

She married Joseph Hartwell McAnally on June 9, 1960 in Brady and John Turner on July 12, 1992 in Brady.

She was employed as a bookkeeper for Donald Barley, CPA for 30 and one-half years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband, John Turner of Brady; two sisters; Lanell McAnally of Brady and Marie Smith and husband, Jonnie of Early; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Joseph McAnally; four brothers, Otis, Raymond, Milton and Baby Stewart; and two sisters, Mildred Stewart and Vera Clauss.

Lanell McAnally, 64

Lanell Stewart McAnally, 64, of Midland and formerly of Brady, died Monday, March 8, 2004 in Midland.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 11 at 10 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Brady, Rev. Sheldon Johnson officiating.

Serving as pallbearers were Jesse McAnally, Jr., Ronnie McAnally, Mark McAnally, Lewis Nowlin, Zane Vaughn and Richard Crawford.

Honorary pallbearers were Jesse McAnally, Johnny Smith, Sam McAnally, Randy Taylor and Keith Mitchel.

She was born Dec. 30, 1939, the daughter of Damon Stewart and Sally (Cox) Stewart.

On Aug. 28, 1958, she married Charley McAnally in Brady. A Brady resident most of her life, she was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a past PTA president, served in several church organizations and was a member of the Eastern Star. She moved to Midland in 2001.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie McAnally of Arlington and Betty Mitchel and husband, Curtis, of Midland; a sister, Marie Smith and husband, Johnny, of Early; and three brothers-in-law, John McAnally and wife, Opal, of Llano and Jesse McAnally and wife, Patsy, and Sam McAnally and wife, Dorothy, all of Brady.

Also, she is survived by five sisters-in-law, Peggy McAnally of Winters, Mary McAnally of Brownwood, Emma Shepherd of Pecos, Evelyn Wynn of Carlsbad, N. Mex., and Katherine Ross of Houston; two grandchildren, Joey Sanders of Dilly and Caleb Mitchel of Midland; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse; brothers, Otis, Raymond and Milton Stewart; and sisters, Vera Clauss, Ann McAnally and Mildred Stewart.

Kathleen (Cathy) Chandler
She loved to design clothes and sew

Kathleen (Cathy) Chandler, of Brady, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002 in San Angelo.

A private family service is being conducted in Fort Worth. Locally, the family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 20 at the First Christian Church of Brady.

Cathy was born in Dooghla, Ireland to Patrick Joyce and Bridget (Duffy) Joyce. She was a Catholic and a "practical nurse" for almost 30 years. She loved to design clothes and sew.

She is survived by a son, Daniel Roy Chandler of Tennessee Colony; a daughter, Nonie Stewart and husband, Dr. John Stewart of Brady; two stepsons, Douglas Roy Chandler of Hurst and Bernard Roy Chandler of Arlington; a brother, Tommy Joyce of Wales, Great Britain; and two sisters, Bridget Joyce of Wales, Great Britain and Noreen Forbes of Cape Cod, Mass.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Lena Mae Tucker, 86
She loved to accompany her husband on hunting and fishing trips

Lena Mae Tucker, 86, of Brady, died Thursday, Aug. 15, 2002 in Brady.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 17 at leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady, Rev. Brian Wiggins officiating. Burial followed in the Rest Haven Cemetery.

Born Oct. 15, 1915, in Williamson County, she was the daughter of Willie Bethel Young and Pearl (Lackey) Young. She married Wilburn Rufus (W.R.) Tucker on Aug. 1, 1936, in Williamson County. She was a bookkeeper for City Electric which she owned and operated with her husband since 1947. She was a member of the Brady Presbyterian Church and was a member of the community since 1947. She was a former Cub Scout Den Mother, was very active in her church, loved music and opened her house to visiting bands for the high school band festivals back when out-of-town bands stayed over night. She loved to accompany her husband on hunting and fishing trips.

She is survived by her husband, W.R. Tucker of Brady; a son, Bruce Tucker and wife, Tommie June, of Austin; two brothers, Ernest Young of Kingsland and Artie Young of Georgetown; a grandson, Richard Tucker of Austin; and two great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Aaron Tucker, also of Austin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.

Alexander M. Finlay, Jr., 83
Commissioned Officer in Navy during Pacific Theater Amphibious Corps

Alexander Mitchell Finlay, Jr., M.D., 83, of Denton and formerly of McCulloch County, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002 at Denton Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Dec. 20 at 4 p.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church of Denton, and a graveside service will follow on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 2 p.m. in Fife.

Pallbearers will be John Haynie, John Lewis, Bruce Finlay, John Doole, Bud Cothern, Charles Saunders, Gene Boynton, Bill Collins and Curtis Innerarity.

He was born march 7, 1919, in Fife, to Alexander Mitchell Finlay, Sr. and Bernice (Doole) Finlay. He married Alla Gene Williams on July 24, 1951 in Philadelphia, Miss.

He graduated from Lohn High School where he was valedictorian, received a bachelor of arts from Louisiana Polytech Institute in 1940 and taught school for two years.

Dr. Finlay was a Commissioned Officer in he United States Navy in the Pacific Theater Amphibious Corps. After the war he earned his MD degree form the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston in 1950.

He was a member of many medical societies including a charter membership in the American College of Nuclear Medicine and memberships in the Radiological Society of North America, the Texas Radiological Society and the Rocky Mountain Radiological Society.

He also became a Diplomate of the American Board of Nuclear Medicine in 1976. He practiced radiology in Denton from 1956 to 1982, followed by a practice in Dallas from 1982-1986. He helped to found Numed, Inc., a nuclear medicine services company, and he was considered so instrumental that they created the Alexander M. Finlay, M.D. Professional Achievement Award, which is given annually to an outstanding employee. He continued to work part-time until 2001, when he retired in order to devote more time to his many hobbies.

Dr. Finlay served on the Denton City Council from 1968-70 and was Mayor of Denton from 1970-72. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Denton. He was listed in Who's Who in Texas in 1975. He loved to travel and was an active member of the Wally Byam Caravan Club, taking his Airstream trailer all over the North American Continent.

Dr. Finlay had a brilliant mind as evidenced by his many degrees and honors. He loved to make people laugh and was a wonderful story-and joke-teller. He was an avid golfer, an expert fly-fisherman and a dedicated bridge player.

Dr. Finlay is survived by his wife, Gene; daughters Fran Mills and Linda Wallace; sons, Mitchell Finlay, Fred Finlay and David Finlay; a sister, Lucy Margaret Davis; and grandchildren, Zeke Finlay, Samaria Finlay, Eriel Wallace, Conor Wallace, Adrien Wallace, Jackson Finlay, Molly Finlay, Chris Finlay and Ian Finlay.

Memorial donations may be made to the Emily Fowler Public Library, the Trinity Presbyterian Church Building Fund or the Aplastic Anemia & MDS Foundation, P.O. Box 613, Annapolis, Md. 21404

Eva M. Irvin Johnson, 95

Eva Mae Irvin Johnson, 95, formerly of Brady, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003 in Midland.

Graveside services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 at Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady with Brother Bob Porterfield officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy., Midland.

Lucille Caruthers Smith

Lucille Caruthers Smith, of San Antonio and formerly of Doole, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003 in San Antonio.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. at the First Untied Methodist Church of Waxahachie.

She was born in San Antonio and was the daughter of Leon W. and Ruby Caruthers.

She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio and received her bachelor of science degree from Howard Payne University in Brownwood and a master of education degree from North Texas University in Denton.

In 1939, she married John A. Smith in Brady.

He preceded her in death in 1972. The couple had four children.

Mrs. Smith taught private piano lessons in her home and in the high school at Melvin, before teaching in the classroom in that area.

She moved to Waxahachie in 1968 where she taught English in the high school until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years and later became a member of the First United Methodist Church.

After her retirement, she became an avid bridge player and enjoyed the game.

She is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Dunning of Ruidoso, N. Mex. and Nancy Smith of Fort Worth; two sons, Landon Smith of Rockport and Kimbell Smith of Garland; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She donated her body to Southwest Medical Center.

April Ewing, 16

April Ewing, 16, of Brady, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003 in Brady.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 4 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Charles Ewing,

John Ewing, William Richard, James Ewing, Joseph Slatton and Bradley Sherman.

She was born June 15, 1987, in San Angelo, to Charles and Judith (Leifeste) Ewing. She was a student at Brady High School and a member of the Melvin Evangelical Free Church. She was a sweet, outgoing and feisty girl who loved to help others, especially her classmates.

Survivors include her parents, Charles and Judith Ewing of Brady; two brothers, William Richard and John Ewing of Brady; her grandmother, Rua Ewing of Brady; a great-grandmother, Gene Ray of Aurora, Colo.; two aunts, Cathy Jones of Brady and Mary Ann Smith of Junction; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W.M. Leifeste; her uncle, John Paul Leifeste; and her grandfather, Billy Ewing.

Richard (Rick) Cory, 52

Richard Leslie (Rick) Cory, 52, of Brady, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004 in Brady.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 11 at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Blake O'Dell officiating.

He was born Nov. 22, 1951, in Kerrville, to Obed and Fern (Gray) Cory. He and Syndy Danz were married April 16, 1971, in Kerrville. He was a corrections officer/supervisor at the San Saba State School and a member of the First Baptist Church of Kerrville.

Mr. Cory came to Brady in the 1980's to be manager of the Gibson's store. He later was chief of police for the City of Brady.

Survivors include his wife, Syndy, of Brady; two sons, Levi Cory of Austin and Drew Cory of Kerrville; his mother, Fern Cory of Fort Worth; three sisters, Gloria Roeder of Kerrville, Kathy Dickenson of Fort Worth and Candy Cade of Kerrville; and a brother-in-law, Willy Danz and wife, Terri, also of Kerrville.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Obed Cory, Jr.

Don Hall, 71

Don Hall, 71, of Brady, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 in Mason.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels, Rev. Gaylon Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Lohn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born Sept. 14, 1932, in Brady, to Ralph Gordon Hall and Hanna Elizabeth (Hill) Hall. He married Kay Karger on July 27, 1963, in Mexico.

He was a salesman for Nelson Electrical Supply for over 14 years and was a former manager of Valley Telephone Coop in Raymondville. Also, he was a former safety instructor for Texas Engineering Extension Service.

Hall attended Lohn High School, Tarleton University in Stephenville and the University of Texas in Austin. He was a Christian and spent most of his life in this area. He liked horseracing and was a U.S. Air Force Veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Hall of Brady; two sons, R.G. Hall and fiancé, Renee Ogdie, of San Angelo and Chris Hall of Brady; and two grandchildren, Karli Cantu and Colton Cantu.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Audrey Whitmore.

The family requests that memorials be made to West Texas Rehabilitation Center.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jamie Friar, Cory Feller, Ron Jordan, Kent Garland, Randy Deans and Robert Jones.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joel Craig, Matt Gruben, Klein Reed, Bob Russell, Bob Whitty and Leon Wilkinson.
