Obey Brady Martin, 91

Obey Brady Martin, 91, of Abilene and formerly of Lohn, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 in Abilene.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m. at the Doole Baptist Church, Rev. Bruce McBee officiating. Burial will follow in the Stacy Cemetery under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home.

Born Aug. 5, 1911, in Stacy, he was the son of Obey Ellis and Merdie (Middleton) Martin. He married Merle McCormic in 1929, in Wylie. He was a farmer and a mail carrier. A member of the Lohn Baptist Church, he was also a 32nd degree Mason.

Survivors include his three sons, W.C. Martin and wife, Earline of Clifton, W.D. Martin and wife, Mona, of Lubbock and Brady C. Martin and wife, Irene, of Eddy; two daughters, La Joyce McBee of Lubbock and Merlene Martin of Abilene; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Obey Benny Martin in Feb. 2000; a brother; and three sisters.

Dorothy Nell Randolph, 76,

Dorothy Nell Randolph, 76, of Brady, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003 in Brady.

Under the direction of Heritage Funeral Homes, a graveside service was held Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 1:30 p.m. at Calf Creek Cemetery, Brother Rusty Kwast officiating.

She was born Dec. 4, 1927, in McCulloch County, to Alvin Thomas and Tempie Ray (Petty) Perry. She was a bookkeeper for Western Auto for many years and also liked to crochet. She was a member of the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeri Callan and Cathy Miller, both of Euless; a brother, Leo Perry of Brady; and four grandchildren, Paul Burns of Dallas and Mannon Martin, Cyrus Martin and Ashley Miller, all of Euless.

Her parents, two brothers, Marion Ray Perry and James Warren Perry, preceded her in death.

Katheryne Amthor, 81

Katheryne (Katie) Amthor, 81, of San Saba, died Wednesday, May 25, 2004 in San Saba.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 28 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methoadist Church with Rev. Sam Crosby officiating and Rev. Judy Tolbert assisting.

She was born August 19, 1922 in San Saba, the daughter of Dennis Dale Hartley and Leona Moore Hartley. On May 2, 1943, Katheryne Hartley and George Marcus Amthor were married in Amarillo. They made their home in San Saba, where they reared their three children, George, Mark, and Kathy.

Her husband preceded her in death August 28, 1984. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her three children, George M. Amthor, III and wife, Billie Jeanne, Mark Amthor and wife, Cathy, and Kathy McEwin and husband, Mark, all of San Saba; grandchildren, Marcus Amthor of Brady, Dane Amthor of Georgetown, Todd Amthor and wife, LaJoy, of Hutto, Carey Amthor of Stephenville, Ryan Amthor of College Station, Brandi Amthor of Waco, Chris Amthor and wife, Crystal, of Boerne, ShiAnn Amthor of College Station, and Katie McEwin of San Saba.

Other survivors include great-grandchildren, Morgan Amthor, Madison Amthor, Navy Amthor, Brighton Amthor, and Ashtyn Amthor; one brother, Bill Hartley and wife, Barbara, of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Nancy Hartley, Ann Davis, and Shirley Amthor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Those serving as pallbearers will be Marcus Amthor, Dane Amthor, Todd Amthor, Ryan Amthor, Chris Amthor, Glenn Grumbles, Ken Prater, Jerome Davis, and Jerry Kidd.

Honorary pallbearers will be Stan Burnham, Louis Crump, Pat Murray, James Harkey, and Lynn Faught.

The family requests that memorials be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

Marjorie Shahan, 72

Marjorie Shahan, 72 of San Saba, passed away Monday, Aug. 27, 2001 in San Angelo.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 30 at the First Baptist Church of San Saba at 3 p.m. with Rev. Pat Riley officiating and Rev. Sam Crosby assisting. Interment followed at the Harris Cemetery.

Born Jan. 1, 1929, in San Saba, she was the daughter of Albert L. Taylor and Gladys Perry Taylor. On Jan. 2, 1947, she married Jimmie Doran Shahan in San Saba. She was a member of the Pecan Grove Baptist Church.

Her family was the center of her life, including many friends as well as her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandson. Her time was invested in the well-being of those around her. The past few years were spent with her needlework and collectibles. She loved to share herself with others, investing her time in her needlework, then presenting it to a loved one with much love and affection in each stitch.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmie, of San Saba; her children, Keith Shahan and his wife, Debbie of San Saba, Kathy Ringo and her husband, Tommy of San Angelo, Jackie Shahan and his wife, Donna of San Saba, David Shahan and his wife, Kathy of New Braunfels and her son-in-law, Chancey Blodgett and his wife, Lori of Richland Springs; grandchildren, Scott Ringo and his wife, Micki of Irving, Brad Ringo and his wife, Rhiannon of San Angelo, Bryan Shahan and his wife, Bonnie of Dallas, Kevin Shahan and his wife, Monica of McKinney, Nathan Shahan of Bryan, Jason Shahan of Lubbock, Stephen Smith of San Marcos, DeLaina Shahan of Waco, Jaron Shahan of China Spring, Sammi Jo Phillips of Waco, Casey Phillips of San Saba, Michelle Shahan and Darrin Shahan, both of New Braunfels, Shonda Blodgett and Shayna Blodgett, both of Richland Springs; one great-grandson, Reid Blodgett of Richland Springs; a sister, Mary Oldham of Marble Falls and an aunt, Lorene Perry of San Saba.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Nell Blodgett; and a granddaughter, Katelyn.

The family requests that memorials be made to the San Saba County EMS.

Dorothy Hunt McKenzie, 81

Dorothy Hunt McKenzie, 81, of San Angelo, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003 in San Angelo.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Brady, Rev. Sheldon Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Rest Haven Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Johnny Jones, Billy Jones, Howard Brister, Kim King, Joe Evridge and Myron Mays. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21 at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels.

Born Nov. 9, 1921, in Goldthwait, she was the daughter of James T. Morris and Eunice (Casbeer) Morris. She married William I. Barbour, Sr. on Aug. 1, 1942, in Goldthwait and later exchanged vows with Boyd Hunt on April 14, 1949, in Goldthwait. They both preceded her in death.

On Dec. 23, 1995, she married Robert F. McKenzie in Brady. She was a school teacher for 32 years, retiring in 1979. She spent 25 years of her teaching career with the Brady Independent School District. A member of the First United Methodist Church, she moved to Brady in 1953 and later moved to San Angelo in 1996.

She attended Tarleton State University for two years and received a B.S. degree from Howard Payne University and a M.S. from North Texas State University in Denton. A caring and loving person, she had many friends in Brady and enjoyed entertaining and cooking for her friends.

Survivors include her husband, Robert McKenzie of San Angelo; a son, Bill Harbour, Jr. of San Angelo; and a stepdaughter, Kerry Schippert of Luthersville, Ga.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two spouses.

John Henry Martin, Jr., 76

John Henry Martin, Jr., 76, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 in Brownwood.

Graveside services were held Thursday, May 20 in the Marion Cemetery in McCulloch County, where he rests amongst his family.

A man of Christian faith, he was born in Goulbusk, to John Henry and Linnie Mae Martin of Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David Ray Martin; two brothers, Rufus Ray and Earl Roy Martin; and a sister, Ivy Mae Atchley of Mason.

He is survived by two sisters, his twin, June Beam of Brady and Cora Parker of Mason; a nephew; and a host of nieces and friends.

BOLLING

Barbara Carol Bolling, 67, of Palacios died at her residence November 30, 2002. She was born July 30, 1935 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma to the late Joe and Rhuie Lucille Hopkins Tafolla. Mrs. Bolling was a resident of Palacios since 1948 and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

She graduated from the University of Houston, Victoria and was a Certified Public Accountant.

She retired from the Port Authority of Point Comfort, and was an accountant with Lacey Lowry Bookkeeping Service as well as operating her own accounting business.

Mrs. Bolling was an honorary and past President of the Harmony Club, member of and past President of the Alapha Club, member of the Palacios Library Board of Directors, member of and past President of the friends of the Palacios Library, Treasurer of the Robert Duran Caring and Sharing Food Pantry Board, Treasurer of the Palacios Beautification Committee, member of the Monday Night Bridge Club and was the newly elected director of the Palacios Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include: two daughters and a son-in-law, Lucile Kay Wyatt of Dallas, and Susan Carol and John Kopacz of La Ward; sister, Frances Ballard of Lawton, Okla., brother, Bill Tafolla of Portage, Mich.; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Susan Wyatt of Dallas.

Funeral service was Monday, December 2, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church of Palacios with the Rev’s Janel Blair and Charlie Parker officiating.

Interment followed at Palacios Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be J. W. “Billy” Jenkins, Jr., Alan Huddleston, Lacey Lowry, Bill Stransky, Chipper Holt and Richard Meyer.

Honorary Pallbearers were Joe Jenkins, Butch Bowers, Ralph Clements, Vic Kahlich, Fred Huitt and Robert Partain.

Memorials may be made to the Palacios Beautification Committee, Palacios, Texas.

Arrangements were with Palacios Funeral Home.

REESE

Shirley Jean Reese, 78, of Bay City passed away Monday, December 2, 2002 at the Legacy Nursing Center in Bay City. She was born on August 13, 1924 in Salisbury, Missouri to parents George Gilbert and Lillian Folkes Steinebach.

She was a devoted housewife and mother and a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Bay City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vance Eugene, and two sisters, Clara Grantham and Helen McEntire

She is survived by: sons and daughters-in-law, Don E. and Sherrie Reese of Onalaska, Texas and Ronnie N. and Bonnie Reese of Houston, a daughter, Darla Kay Vinson of Bay City, and a sister, Pauline Grantham; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating.

Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Visitation was Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Bay City Funeral Home Chapel.

Pallbearers will be T.J. Middleton, Jonnie J. Kovar, Jr., Owen Middleton, George A. Grantham, Norman W. Reese and Kenneth W. Grantham.

The family would like to thank the workers of the Legacy and Houston Hospice, El Campo unit for their help and support.

The family asks that memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church of Bay City.

Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.

SAIN

Samuel Lewis Sain, 72, of Bay City died at Matagorda General Hospital November 30, 2002.

He was born July 5,1930 in Graford, Texas to the late Samuel Richard and Dolly Jane Wright Sain. He was resident of Bay City the past 35 years.

Mr. Sain was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

His generosity and caring will be greatly missed.

His devotion to his family and our Lord was boundless.

Survivors include: wife, Margie Matura Sain of Bay City; daughters, Penny Sain Cachia and Nikki Sain Barker both of Bay City; step-sons, Joey Billeau and his wife, Crystal of Markham, and Chris Billeau of Bay City; three granddaughters, Madison Traniello of Bay City, Shelby and Caitlin Billeau both of Markham.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Agnus Minton and brothers, Harry and Richard Sain.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church of Van Vleck with the Rev’s Sam Starks and Linday Maxcey officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Pallbearers will be David and Daniel Barker, Richard Minton, Ronnie Sain, Buck Stovall and Robert Quick.

Memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts of America Troop 219, Van Vleck, Texas.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

STEWART

Nelva Maurine Stewart, 88, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2002.

She was born June 12, 1914 to Charles and Mary Lokey in Huffsmith, Texas and was a resident of Wimberley, Texas.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Cooper and husband William of Wimberley; son, Carroll Ray Stewart Jr. and wife Linda of Houston; six grandchildren, Donna Colabuono of Driftwood, Texas, Sue Ann Clark of Dallas, Linda L. Nelson of Corpus Christi, Sen Stewart of College Station, Stephen Stewart of San Marcos and Shannon Cooper of Wimberley.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 4, 2002 at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Bay City, Texas. Interment will follow in the Cedarville Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Thomason Funeral Home, Wimberley, Texas.

KANA

George C. Kana, Sr., 82, of Palacios, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2002. He was born October 15, 1919 in Dubina, Texas to Stephen and Frances Muzny Kana.

He was a resident of Palacios since 1946, member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, a member of VFW Post 2467 of Palacios, a veteran of World War II serving in the U S Army, and was a 45-year member of the Palacios Volunteer Fire Dept., serving from 1952 to 1997.

He is survived by: daughter, Betty Boyd of Austin; daughter-in-law, Barbara Kana of Kerrville; sons, Edward J. Kana and wife Margaret of Lake Jackson, Tony Kana of Palacios, Joe C. Kana and wife Bobbie of Palacios, George C. Kana, Jr. of Palacios and Bobby Kana and wife Dena of Santa Fe; sister, Edith Katzfey of San Antonio; brothers, Henry Kana of El Campo and Edmund Kana and wife Lorraine of El Campo; grandchildren, Chris and Carl Kana of Lake Jackson, Monica Kana Herring of Houston, Eric Kana and wife Vanessa of Blessing, Keri Soltow and husband Jeff of Loop, Texas, Amy Jo Kana of College Station, Daniel Hopkins of Austin, Blaine Boyd of Austin, Katelyn Kana of Victoria, Ty Kubena and Hunter Kana of Santa Fe, Kelcie and Ashley Kana of Kerrville; and by his great grandchildren, Jenna Brook Kana of Blessing and Logan Soltow of Loop, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Frances Kana; parents, Stephen and Frances Kana; children, Jennette, Raymond, Mary Ann, Michael, and Daniel Kana; sisters, Marie Kana, Frances Kruppa, Josie Bacak and Annie Zapalac; and brothers, Joe Kana and Steve Kana.

The Rosary was recited at 7 p.m., Friday, September 20, 2002 at St. Anthony Catholic Church.

The funeral mass was at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 21, 2002 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with the Revs. Charles Dwomoh, Gary Janak, and Michael Lyons officiating.

Interment followed at Holy Cross Cemetery in El Campo, Texas .

Pallbearers were Eric Kana, Chris Kana, Carl Kana, Daniel Hopkins, Mel Anders, and Pete Estrello.

Contributions may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church Building Fund, the Palacios Volunteer Fire Dept., or the Hospice Support Care.

Arrangements were with Palacios Funeral Home.
