KRENEK

Paul Frank Krenek, 45, of Bay City died Friday, September 20, 2002 in Laplace, La. He was born November 23, 1956 in Bay City to Alfons and Lucille Krenek. Paul was a member of St. Roberts Catholic Church, a graduate of Tidehaven High School and lived in Matagorda County most of his life.

He was a millwright by trade and employed by Orion in Norco, La.

He is survived by: mother, Lucille Krenek; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Fae Krenek, Joe and Teresa Krenek, Robert Krenek, David and Patricia Krenek, Fred and Nataly Krenek, Al and Lisa Krenek, James and Stacy Krenek; sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret and Charles Giger, Kathryn and Jim Connally, Elizabeth and Mike Billingsley, Nancy and Ronnie Pasak, Christine and Chris Craft; numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his father, Alfons Krenek, and his brother Jerry Krenek.

A rosary will be said at 6 p.m. Sunday, September 22, 2002 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Father Samuel Appiasi officiating. Interment will follow at St. Peters Catholic Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Mr. Leo Guy Burns, age 84, of Bay City were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4 at the Chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Joe Ramsey and Rev. George Schultz officiating. Graveside services and burial were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Smiley Baptist Cemetery in Smiley.

Doris Hodges, 82, of Bay City passed away January 31, 2002 at the Legacy Nursing Center in Bay City.

Funeral services for Clinton Allen McGinty, 21, a longtime Atoka area resident, were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 30 at Brown's Funeral Service Chapel in Atoka with Lloyd McElhaney officiating. Burial will be in Green Meadow's Cemetery under the direction of Brown's Funeral Service in Atoka.

Funeral service for Susie Ruth Werlla, 88, of Vidor was 2 p.m. Sunday, February 3, 2002, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery.

BRUNO

Ryan Bruno, 20, of rural Northfield, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 6, 2003 at his family’s home.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2003 at Northfield Evangelical Free Church with the Rev. Derrick Skoglund officiating. Burial at Oaklawn Cemetery in Northfield with Ross Bruno, Jacob Bruno, Chuck Mohelsky, Cody Towner, Nathan Brown and Justin Walker serving as pallbearers. Visitation Thursday, from 4-7 p.m. at the Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield and at the Church on Friday one hour before services.

Christopher Ryan Bruno was born on March 23, 1983 in Beaumont, Texas. He was the son of Bobby and Susan (Richardson) Bruno. His first years were spent in Beaumont where he began school before moving with his family to Katy, Texas. Ryan spent most of his childhood in Katy attending grades 3-11 there. His senior year of high school was completed at the Seaborne Challenge Corps in Galveston, Texas where he graduated with honors in June, 2000. Ryan’s essay, penned while at Seaborne, won him a trip to Washington D.C. and was published in the Library of Congress. He met the Texas delegation while in Washington, D.C. including Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson. He then moved to Minnesota where he has been living with his mother, step-father and two younger brothers.

Ryan enjoyed many things in life, especially music. He learned to play the guitar at about the age of 10 and has had a keen interest in music his whole life. He also loved to skateboard with his friends while listening to music. He was an avid reader and also loved to watch movies. Ryan’s immediate plans were to join the U.S. Navy.

Christopher Ryan Bruno is survived by his mother Susan Mohelsky and husband Chuck of rural Northfield, father, Bobby Bruno of Beaumont, Texas brothers Ross and Jake Bruno both of Northfield; great-grandfather A.W. Raske of Pasadena, Texas; grandparents, Garland and Idalue Richardson of Van Vleck, Texas, Robert Bruno of Beaumont, Texas, Charles Mohelsky of Kettle River, Minnesota, Alice Devlin of St. Paul, Minnesota, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother Joan Bruno.

Arrangements were by Bierman Funeral HOme of Northfield.

RAMSEY

B. Merle Ramsey, 85, of Palacios died April 8, 2003 at the Port Lavaca Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born February 24, 1918 in San Augustine, Texas to the late Coy Chester and Mary Magdalene Crocker Ramsey.

Mr. Ramsey has been a resident of Palacios since 1927 and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a long time member of the Palacios Volunteer Fire Department. For many years he worked in the oil field and retired at the age of 70 from Richards Drilling Company. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII.

Survivors include: wife of 62 years Elizabeth Sells Ramsey of Palacios; daughters and sons-in-law: Mary and Edward Pennington of Houston, Betty and Gene “Pee Wee” Wier of El Campo, Debbie Ramsey, and Linda and Hudson “Bud” Bates all of Palacios; sisters: Imogene Wheeler of El Campo and Elizabeth Bartlett of Lake Jackson; brother; Coy Ramsey, Jr. of Bay City; six grandchildren: Kim Wier Denton and Cherie Wier both of El Campo, Sandy Pennington Poor of Austin, Julie Pennington of Reno, Nev. and Hudson, Tess Bates both of Palacios; and two grandchildren: Stephen Denton and David Poor.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Lenedene Johs and his brother, Eugene Ramsey.

Funeral service were held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Charlie Parker officiating.

Interment followed at the Palacios Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Norval and Bobby Sells, Sam, Rickey, and Bruce Ramsey, Dickie Ellis, Eric Johs, Jr. and Paul Carroll Bartlett.

Honorary pallbearers were Irvin Petersen, Harold Mozley, Billy Morton, Johnny Frankson, Vernon and Harold Hunt, Ben Blackburn and Billy Holt.

Memorials may be made to the Palacios Volunteer Fire Dept. or Charity of Choice.

Arrangements were with Palacios Funeral Home Palacios.

ROBBINS

Dan Wilburn “Daddy Bill” Robbins, 86, of Lockhart, Texas went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 7, 2003. He was born September 19, 1916 in Gonzales County to Addie and Dan Robbins.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Thornton Robbins, his parents, two sisters, and two brothers.

Bill is survived by: two loving daughters, Cecilia Dean Efird and husband Carlton of Bay City and Sue Gail Crouch and husband Gene of Lockhart. Bill was blessed with seven grandchildren, Cindy Mitchell and husband Ty of Lockhart, Corky Efird and wife Polly of Houston, Suzanne Sullivan and husband Keith, Billy Efird and wife Gloria of Bay City, Dr. Kathy Crouch of Austin Counce and husband, Tim; Dr. Kathy Crouch and Brenda Davenport, and husband, Mike. “Daddy Bill” was loved and adored by fourteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Bill lived in the Luling and Lockhart area most of his life. After Bill and Mildred married, they moved to several larger areas where Bill learned the communications business. They returned to Lockhart and Bill continued his education at the University of Texas and completed his education in Pennsylvania. Bill was a successful businessman for many years with Bill Robbins’ Television stores operating in Lockhart, Austin and San Marcos. During his forty-four years of serving his community through his television business, Bill started the first garbage pick up for Lockhart and the first television rental service for homes and the Lockhart Hospital. Many local businesses enjoyed piped-in-music for their offices from Bill Robbins’ Television.

Bill was a loving, devoted Christian husband, father, and grandfather. Bill and Mildred joined the fellowship of First Lockhart Baptist Church in 1949. He served his God faithfully for many years in different areas of the church. He was truly the most kind, honest and gentle man anyone could meet. He loved God and reflected this love over and over in each moment of every day. he brought many years of happiness to his wife, two daughters, family and dear friends.

A celebration of Bill Robbins’ life will commence at McCurdy’s Funeral Home was held on Thursday, April 10, 2003 with the Reverend Gary Rodgers officiating.

Burial were followed at the Lockhart Cemetery.

Pallbearers : Carlton Lee Efird, Jr. (Corky), Billy Carl Efird, Keith Sullivan, Ty Mitchell, Tim Counce and Michael Davenport.

Honorary Pallbearers: Howard Walker, Raymond Aguilar, Roger Haug, Preston Dobbs, Lloyd White and Dr. Phil Wales.

Memorial contributions may be given to First Lockhart Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at the Lockhart Cemetery.

Burt

Don Gordon Burt, 46, of Sweeny, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003.

He was born Wednesday November 21, 1956 in Bay City.

He is survived by: wife, Sharyl D. Burt of Sweeny; father, Charles G. Burt of Bay City; sister and brother-in-law, Robbie and James Johnson of Bay City; stepchildren, Jeremy Aiken of Angleton, Jason and Amanda Bridges of Angleton, Patricia Bridges of Houston, Stephanie and Scott Pearcy of Bastrop; three grandchildren; one niece; one nephew; numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by: mother, Goldie Joines Burt.

Services were 10 a.m., Saturday May 24, 2003, at Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Daniel Baugh officiating.

Visitation was Friday May 23, 2003 at 4-7 p.m. in West Columbia at Baker Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial was held at LaBauve Cemetery in Francita, Texas.

Pallbearers were Jeremy Aiken, Alvin Biggers, Jason Bridges, Lewis Longoria, Ronnie McLarty, Scott Pearcy, Darrell Phillip, Luther Waldrip.

Honorary pallbearers were Paul Alexander, Chris Arnold, Joe Delgado, Cles King, Patrick Peck, Victor Pedroza, Tim Shaddox.

Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice Care Team or Brazosport Cancer Center.

Arrangements were with Baker Funeral Home.

OWEN

Dorothy Joan Owen, 63, of Van Vleck, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2003 at the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton.

She was born in Wharton, Texas on December 7, 1939 to parents H.L. and Marty Moore Bock.

She was a housewife and a long time member of the Harvest Time Church.

She is survived by: husband, Leo Owen of Van Vleck; and her children, Ricky and Carol Hahn of Waller, Kenny and Susan Love of LaWard, Tuffy and JoBeth Tweedle of Palacios, and Joey and Pamela Kennedy of Cedar Lane; 10 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Sunday, May 25, 2003, at 2:30 p.m. at the Harvest Time Church with the Rev. Jim Hardaway officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Pallbearers will be Alan Sellers, Trey Hahn, Joshua Tweedle, Joey Kennedy, Roy Chase and Robert Maynes.

Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.

PARKS

Odessa Mallett Stewart Parks, 79, of Cedar Lane passed away Thursday, May 22, 2003 at her residence. She was born September 9, 1923 in Littlefield, Coryell County, Texas to parents James Washington and Hattie Mallett Stewart.

She was ninth of ten children and was a life-long Baptist.

She was a loving mother and granny, and loved hunting and fishing.

On Sept. 11, 1939, she married Claude Parks in San Saba, Texas.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, a son, Claude Gerald; grandsons, Bruce Wayne and Kenneth Lynn Parks; brothers, T.J. , N.B., Bernard, and Leon Stewart; sisters, Dollie Alexander, Mary Anna Petty, and Laura Griffay.

She is survived by: daughter, Doris Cates of Cedar Lane; sons, William H. and wife Margie Parks of Markham, Tommy J. and wife, Donna Parks of Livingston, and Thurman D. and wife Kay Parks of Sargent; sisters, Frances Parks and Nancy Doyle of Breckenridge; ten grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Markham with the Rev. Howard Harper officiating. Burial will follow a graveside service at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2003 at the China Creek Cemetery in San Saba, Texas. Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.

WRIGHT

James “Joe” Wright, Sr., 84, of Bay City died May 21, 2003 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

He was born June 29, 1918 in Virginia City, Va. to the late Jasper Daniel and Maude Orender Wright. Mr. Wright was a member of the City Baptist Church and a resident of Bay City since 1953. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U. S. Army, a Life Member of the Philip H. Parker VFW Post #2438, and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Area #3232.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years Jessie Tweedle Wright; son and daughter-in-law: James, Jr and Elizabeth Wright all of Bay City; daughter: Linda Sullivan of Santa Fe, Texas; sisters: Virginia Hyatt of Canton, IL, Elsie Burton, and Eula Lecco both of Princeton, W.Va. Marjorie Goodson of Seminola, Fla.; brothers: Kenneth Wright of Wyoming, IL, John Wright of Princeton, W. Va., Fred Wright of Goldstar, Ga; nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Earl Junior Wright.

Funeral Service were held at 2 p.m. May 24, 2003, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Lee Watson officiating.

Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery.

military honors were under the auspice of Philip H. Parker VFW Post #2438.

Pallbearers were members of the VFW Post #2438.

Memorials may made to the Kidney Foundation.

Arrangements were with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

YOUNTS

Mary Vest Younts, 87, of Bay City died May 22, 2003 in Angleton.

She was born August 10, 1915 in Bay City to the late Joel Waverely and Elizabeth Battaile Vest.

Mrs. Younts was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She graduated from Bay City High School in 1933.

She taught first grade for 31 years with the Bay City Independent School District.

Survivors include: her only daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Wayne (Coonie) Roberds of Angleton; two grandchildren, Clint Roberds and wife, Jana of Jasper, Texas, and Robyn Roberds of Sugar Land; and one great granddaughter, Madison Roberds of Jasper.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Albert Younts; sisters, Maney Gusman and Frances Grebe and brother, Billy Vest.

Funeral service will be 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Pauline Harvey officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

COOK

Oleta Nelseen Cook went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 16, 2003, at the age of 86. She was born August 27, 1916, to the late Marvin and Lula Campbell in Culleoka, Collin County, Texas. A 4th generation Texasn and 54-year resident of Matagorda County, Mrs. Cook was a long-time member of the Fellowship Class of First United Methodist Church of Bay City.

Mrs. Cook is survived by: daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Charles Williams of Bay City; two sons, Ronnie Cook of McKinney and Clif Cook of Houston; daughter-in-law, Sheri Fry; grandchildren, Susan and Bill Parish and Melinda Williams of Bay City, Elizabeth Cook and Brad Cook of Dallas, Will Cook of Houston, Jessica Cook of Dickinson; great-grandchildren Cody Williams and Catie Williams of Bay City, Caleb Cook of Houston; and great-great grandson Dalton Williams of Bay City; one sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Dub Pingleton and sister-in-law, Helen Campbell, all of McKinney.

Mrs. Cook was preceded in death by her husband, Marcus M. Cook; one son, Gordon Lee Cook of Bay City; and two brothers, H.G. “Jack” Campbell and Leslie E. Campbell.

Pallbearers include Will Cook, Brad Cook, Cody Williams, Danny Pingleton, Mark Finlay, and James Williams.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 17, 2003, from 6-7 p.m. at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home. Services will be Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Bay City with interment to follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home of Bay City.

The family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Bay City.
