Graveside services for William S. Hart of Oakland, California and formerly of Bay City, Texas will be held Saturday, June 21, 2003 at 11 a.m. at East View Cemetery with the Rev. J. Garnett officiating. Visitation will be Friday, June 20, 2003 from 1 until 8 p.m. at Green’s Mortuary. Family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m.

Green’s Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.

HIPP

Infant Sarah Elise Johnson Hipp was born at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City to Jerrica Johnson and Jordan Hipp on June 15, 2003. She later passed away that day to be with the Lord, her Heavenly Father at 2 p.m.

Sarah Elise is survived by her parents, as well as maternal grandmother, Pamela Johnson all of Bay City, and paternal grandparents , Cindy Luedecke of Bay City, and Gregg Hipp of College Station.

Graveside funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Lee Watson officiating.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

KING

Charles Merl King, age 76, passed away Saturday, June 14, 2003 at a Waco hospital. Services will be at 9:30am Thursday, June 19, 2003 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd., Waco with the Rev. Charles Conner and the Rev. Steve Jackson, pastor of Chalk Bluff Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Moore Cemetery in Chalk Bluff. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7pm Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at the funeral home.

Charles was born in Rochelle, Illinois, on February 20, 1927, to Burton King and Daisy May Lane. He moved to Houston in 1931 and then to Boerne in 1937 where he attended Boerne Elementary School. He then attended high school in Victoria, Texas, and later attended University of Houston where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1948 and a Master of Arts in 1949. He began teaching at LaMarque High School before his graduation from the University of Houston. He earned his Masters of Religious Education from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1953.

He married Catherine Tobias on March 20, 1954, and they resided in Bay City, Texas where he taught high school English. They moved to Waco in 1959, and he taught at Waco High School and Richfield High School. His first college teaching job was in Hillsboro, Texas, in 1965 and in 1966, he was hired as the first chairman of the English Department at McLennan Community College. He retired after 20 years of service.

Charles was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church for many years where he taught Sunday School in the preschool department. He was currently a member of Chalk Bluff Baptist Church.

He was also very active in many poultry clubs and won numerous awards. Many of his awards were featured in the national Poultry Press magazine. Charles loved his garden and was well known for his green thumb. He was always a wealth of information which he shared with everyone. He was also an amateur veterinarian and was always surrounded by animals.

He also performed volunteer work with the Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) and worked with numerous foster children. He also volunteered with the West Ambulance Service.

He is survived by: his wife of 49 years, Cathy King; daughter, Tami Cox and husband, Joel; son, Kevin King and wife, Apryl; son, Mark King and wife, Brenda; grandchildren, Beau and Kyle Earley, Scott and Toby King and BreAnne and Bailey King; sister, Rosabel Coldiron and husband, Dewey; brothers, Jim Stogsdill and wife, Diane and Gilbert Stogsdill and wife, Connie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Everette Rayburn, Johnny Sauls, Wallace Hand, Elmer Goldsmith, George Brinegar, and Walton Strickland.

AUSTIN

Funeral services for Clemith Dowyle Austin, 24, of Bay City, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at Mother Zion Baptist Church in Bay City, with the Rev. K.J. Griggs, pastor, and the Rev. A.H. Floyd, eulogist.

Burial followed at Eastview Cemetery.

He was born in Bay City on Jan. 5, 1979, to Clemith Austin and Pinky W. Austin, and passed away Nov. 25, 2003, at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

Survivors include his parents, Clemith and Pinky Austin; three sons, TyQuan, Artrell and JaTrayoule, and fiancee’, Cunnicia Franklin; two brothers, Christopher Austin and Dorian Williams; two sisters, Sheila Woods and Iris Nicole Roberson; his grandparents, Dorothy Walton, Ernestine Austin and Clifton Hillyer; other relatives and friends.

Active pallbearers will be RayShawd Parks, Clemmission Johnson, Michael Taylor, Rodney Mitchell, July Franklin Jr., Clarence Barefield, Brandon Harris, Brian Battle and Myron Wiggins.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home.

DAVIS

Carrie Lucille Davis, 76, of Bay City passed away Thursday, November 27, 2003 at her residence. She was born in Wellington, Texas on January 16, 1927 to parents John and Lela Shaw Kennerly.

She was a retired registered nurse and was a memberof the memory makers quilt guild.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-n-laws, Roger and Sue Reppond of Point Blank, Texas and David and Abbigail Davis of Bay City; daughter and son-in-law, Marjorie and Pat Cross of Liberty, Texas; daughters, Betty Williams of Alvin, and Judy Reppond of Garrison, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Herman Varnado of Pollock, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 30, 2003 at the Family Worship Center in Bay City. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Members of the memory makers quilt guild will be honorary pallbearers.

Services are under direction of Bay City Funeral Home.

GRIGGS

Funeral services for Earl Griggs, 76, of Bay City, will be held Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at 11 a.m., at Mother Zion Baptist Church in Bay City, with the Rev. K.J. Griggs, pastor, and the Rev. T.L. Richardson, eulogist.

Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 until 9 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

He was born in Gainesmore, Texas, on Aug. 12, 1927, to Ellis Griggs Sr. and Gertrude Tellison Griggs, and passed away Nov. 26, 2003, at the V.A. Hospital in Houston.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in WWII, and was retired from Matagorda General Hospital in 1990 after 29 years.

Survivors include: his wife, Vivian James Griggs of Bay City; seven children, Robert Earl Griggs, Charlotte Griggs Knapp (and Randall), Gladys Griggs Agu, Jonathan (and Dian), Shelia, Earlean, and Ellis Earl, all of Bay City; two sisters, Ruby Matthews of Bay City, and Betty Wiley of Lake Jackson; and four brothers, the Rev. Murray Griggs, Sr. of Cedar Lane, elder Eugene Griggs of Sweeny, Ellis Griggs of Bailey’s Prairie, and Robert Griggs of Houston; three stepchildren, Curtis Roberts of Bay City, Quinta Alexander of Houston, and Perry Shaw (and Pamela) of San Antonio; 16 grands, six step-grands, four great-grands; mother-in-law, Mrs. L.R. James of San Antonio; one aunt; nieces; nephews, other relatives and friends.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home in Bay City.

TREACY

Lorene Allen Treacy, 90, of Palacios died Nov. 26, 2003 at the Palacios Community Medical Center. She was born Aug. 11, 1913 in Gotebo, Oklahoma to the late Joseph Howard and Annie Lee Tabb Allen.

Mrs. Treacy was a resident of Palacios since 1925 and was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was very active in Women’s Missionary Union, choir and numerous committees including the building Committee of the new Christian Life Center.

She also was department Director of Adult IV, and Intermediates for 5 years, and adult II for 5 years, and taught 8 year olds for 13 years and the ladies adult class for 5 years. She was a charter member of the Palacios Community Hospital Pink Ladies, Local Registrar of Vital Statistics for many years and was receptionist for the Palacios Funeral Home for 55 years.

Mrs. Treacy was also member of the Athena Club since 1959 and served on the Palacios Cemetery Association Board of Directors from 1980 till she became and honorary board member in 2000.

Survivors include: two daughters, Bobbye Jean Cook and husband Clyde of Nederland and Colleen Nataro of Palacios; six grandchildren, Patty Stunz of Nederland, Denise Cox and husband Gene of Nederland, Suzanne Brown and husband Arthur of Mesa, Arizona; George Patrick McHaney of Cleveland, Texas, Treacy Lynn Pattillo and husband Earl of Edna, Michael Vaughn McHaney and wife Phyllis of Rosenberg; also 13 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years Patrick R. Treacy; brothers, Roy, Thelbert and Butler Allen; sister, Oleta Horn; and two sons-in-law, George McHaney, Jr. and Louis Nataro.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2003 at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Maxwell officiating. Interment will follow at the Palacios Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Earl Pattillo, Pat and Mike McHaney, Gene Allen, Charles Harvey and James Kruse. Memorials may be made to the charity of choice. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Palacios Funeral Home. Arrangements are with Palacios Funeral Home.

EVERETT

James Frederic Everett, Sr, 72, of Bay City died February 1, 2004 at his residence. He was born September 23, 1931 in Bay City to the late George Dudley Everett, Sr. and Elizabeth Adele Dresch Everett.

He graduated from Stephenville High School in 1950, attended Tarleton State College, and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1954. After service in the United States Army, he joined his family’s ranching and farming operations in Bay City and Stephenville. A resident of Bay City since 1960, he served as President of both the Bay City Aquatic Club and the Bay City Little League Association. He was a long-time coach of the Bay City Aquatic Club swim team and a Little League Umpire for many years. In 1984, he was named Bay City’s Man of the Year for his activities with youth. He was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, where he served several terms on the Vestry.

He is survived by: daughter, Alice Anne Brown and her husband Robin of Willow Park, Texas; sons, Jay Everett, and Vic and his wife, Lisa Everett all of Bay City; and five grandchildren, Victor Everett, Jr. of Kingsville, Leia Everett Reeves and husband Ben of Chesapeake, Virginia, Bobby Brown of College Station, Billy Brown of Willow Park, and Eric Everett of Houston; and his friend and former wife, Betty Howard Everett of Weatherford, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth McMahan and his brother, George Dudley Everett, Jr.

Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at St. Marks Episcopal Church with the Rev. Bruce Bonner officiating. Interment was at the Everett Family Cemetery near Stephenville, Texas.

Arrangements were with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

HALE

Gloria Ann Hale, 61 years old, passed away due to complication from ALS (Lou Gehrigh’s disease) on Friday, January 30, 2004, at home surrounded by the love of her dear family.

She was born Gloria Ann Steinmeyer on December 6, 1942 in Bay City, the last child of Bill and Verlie Steinmeyer.

She graduated from Bay City High School in 1961 and married Jim Schulz in 1962 and remained married to him until his death in 1999. In 2000, she was given a second chance at happiness when she married her childhood sweetheart Gordon C. Hale and spent the remaining years of her life in joy.

Ann is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband and infant daughter, Jennifer Ann.

She is survived by: her devoted husband, Gordon; children, Jill Essbaum and husband Axel of Austin, Jay Schulz and wife Michelle of League City, Mary Jane Haigh and husband John of Rowlette, Jason Hale and wife Bo of Dallas, CJ Hale and wife Jaclyn of Katy; granddaughters, Hayley and Danielle Schulz of League City, Maddie Hale of Dallas; sister, Audrey LaBeff of Victoria; brothers, Gene Steinmeyer and wife Jan of Huntsville, James Steinmeyer of Buna; aunt, Anne Purcell of Wenatchee, Washington; as well as devoted host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, in-laws and neighbors.

A memorial service was held on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 505 Deseret, Friendswood, Texas 77546. McKay

Hadley Edgar McKay Jr. (Mac) passed away on Tuesday, February 2, 2004. He was born in Ottawa, Kansas on September 2, 1923 to the parents, Hadley Edgar, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Hickman McKay.

“Mac”was a WWII Veteran serving in the Air Force. He was a member of the VFW, First United Methodist Church of Bay City, and a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Survivors include: son, Phillip Hadley McKay of Horshoebay, Texas; daughters, Sue Anne Cameron of Phoenix, Arizona; Jeanne Naiser of Bay City, Texas; Donna Friedrich of Cocoanut Creek, Florida; sister and brother-in-law, Virgie and Jack Weinheimer of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Malynn Ashcraft, Elizabeth Williams, Tammie Slay, Ben Cameron, Tim McKay, Phil McKay, Jr., Shelley Naiser, Jayme Naiser, Stuart Faulkner, Chelsea Friedrich, and Graeme Friedrich; also survived by 11 great- grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by: his parents, wife, Myrt McKay; brother, Clifton McKay; sisters, Goldie Hutton, Inez Pennel, and Jessie Nichols. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 4, 2004 and Thursday, February 5, 2004 at Bay City Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2004 at First United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Pauline Harvey officiating. Interment will be held at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing.

Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.

STRIDDE

Raymond Stridde, 84, of Bay City died January 31, 2004 at Forest Park Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born May 17, 1919 in Gonzales, Texas to the late William F. and Olga Hinze Stridde.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a resident of Bay City since 1948. He served in the US Army Air Force during WW II, and was a Life Member of the Philip H. Parker VFW Post No. 2438. Mr. Stridde was a former Texas Highway Patrolman, and former Chief Deputy for the Matagorda Co. Sheriffs office for many years. He also was a retail merchant of oil and gas supplies in Bay City.

Survivors include: wife, Gladys Goodwin Stridde of Bay City; daughter and son-in-law, Therese and Michael Cristiani of St. Louis, Missouri; son and daughter-in-law, Rob Stridde and Susan Tobias of Bolder, Colorado; sister, Norma Zamzow of Live Oak Co., Texas; brothers: Edward, Oscar, and Herbert Stridde all of Three Rivers, Texas; three grandchildren, Katharine Cristiani of Hartford, Connecticut, Jeffrey Cristiani of St. Louis, Missouri, and William Stridde of Bolder, Colorado.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 5, 2004, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kevin Young officiating. Interment with military honors by Philip H. Parker VFW Post will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Chano Soto, Bill Howze, Elwood Stridde, Hart Chapman, Dr. Crayden Dennard, and Mark Dennard. Honorary pallbearers will be Herbert, Edward, and Oscar Stridde.

The family will receive friends at Taylor Bros. Funeral, Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

WOODS

Funeral service for Doris Dykes-Woods, 66, of Bay City will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2004 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. L. C. Cunningham, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at East-view Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday,12 noon to 8 p.m. Family will receive friends 7 to 8 p.m. in the chapel at Green’s Mortuary. Mrs. Wood will lie in state Saturday morning at Bethel Baptist Church 10 to 11 a.m.

Doris was born April 4, 1937 to the union of John and Ellen Anderson-Dykes in Milan County.

She passed away on January 31, 2004 at St. Luke Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas.

She is survived by: daughters, Ellen D. Franklin and Frank, of Bay City, LaDale Copeland and Tyderrall of Houston, Texas, Adon Nnadi and Austin of LaMarque Texas, Lawanna Janice and Darryl of LaMarque, Texas and Angel Woods of Bay City, Manson Woods of Houston; two sisters, Johnnie Hicks and Bennie, Dora Tellison and A.C.; four brothers Arthur Lee Dykes, Willie Lee Dykes and Deloris, Hart Lee Dykes and Rita, James Dykes and Dorothy; 19 grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren and a special friend T. J. Jonice and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ellen Anderson-Dykes; son, Otto Woods; sister, Mary L. Widemon; and brother, Sylvester Dykes.

Pallbearers are DeWayne Bowden, Sylvester Bowden, A.C. Tellison, Jr., Cestrakiah Lewis, Elgin Widemon, Hart Lee Dykes, Billy Sean Dykes, Willie Lee Dykes, Jr., Chivas Wilcox.

Green’s Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements.
