ALLEN

Rosa Mae Walker Allen, 95, of Cedar Lane passed away Saturday, March 27, 2004, at The Legacy in Bay City. Mrs. Allen was born in Altair, Texas October 11, 1908 to the late Lee Roy and Rosa Lee Bryan Walker.

She was a charter member of the First United Methodist Church of Van Vleck and of the Methodist Woman's Society where she held various offices during her active years.

In 1919, her family moved to the Cedar Lane area where she lived most of her life. She graduated from Bay City High School in 1924 before enrolling in Southwest Texas Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas.

After attending college, she returned to Matagorda County where she taught four grades in the Prairie Center two-room school house, near Blessing, for two years.

When she married Clarence Allen in 1932, she left Prairie Center for Riceville, a one-room school near Wadsworth, to teach three more years before she decided to fulfill her ambition to become a full-time homemaker.

After her children were grown, her love of teaching called her back to the classroom for a short tenure at Van Vleck Elementary School.

She was an unselfish, loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose strength and faith in God taught by example what it means to live a Christian life. She will be dearly missed by those whose lives she touched during her 95 years on the earth.

Survivors include: her children, Peggy Ottis and husband George "Geep" of West Columbia, Richard Allen and wife Carol of Bay City, Mary Lee Allen of San Antonio, and Jerry Allen and wife Lynell of West Columbia; four grandchildren: Chris Ottis of Brazoria, Letisha "Tish" Ottis Berryman and husband Joel of Round Rock, Cullen Allen and wife Shelley of Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, and Daryl Allen and wife Sheryl of Fort Worth; four great grandchildren: Ryan, Kyle, Robbie, and Lynette Allen; brother: Samuel Walker of Lake Jackson; sister-in-law Mollie Walker of Sweeny; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence R. Allen in 1980, and by two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral service was 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev's Cullen Allen and Linda Maxey officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.

Pallbearers were Chris Ottis, Daryl Allen Joe Berryman, Ray Walker, Terry Walker and Bryan Shannon.

Honorary pallbearers were Dr. James E. Cowart M.D., Rosa Mae's primary care physician for 48 years; Imogene Acklin, her college roommate who has remained a dear friend for 76 years; Dan and Charlean O'Connell, Johnny Werlla, Martha Lacy, and the devoted staff of The Legacy.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Taylor Bros.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 497, Van Vleck, Texas 77482, or to a charity of choice.

Arrangements were with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

BANYANSCO

Phillip Banyansco,84, of Matagorda, passed away Sunday March 28, 2004 in a Wharton nursing facility.

He was born at home October 10, 1919 in Matagorda, the son of the late Pietro Banyansco and Carrie Clay Banyansco.

Mr. Banyansco was a lifelong resident of Matagorda and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was employed as a deck hand on the Intracoastal Canal, and later he was a self-employed carpenter and landscaper.

He was a resident at the Avalon nursing facility in Wharton since last year. While at Avalon, Phillip had enjoyed making many new friends. He also enjoyed playing dominoes and had a wonderful time playing dominoes the afternoon before his death.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday March 31, 2004 at the First United Methodist Church in Matagorda with the Rev. Fran Foger officiating.

Interment will follow in the Matagorda Cemetery.

Friends may call for visitation at noon Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include: his sisters, Roma Savage and November Jaynes, both of Wharton; brother, Turino Banyansco of Wharton; nieces, Mary Ann Kiel of Richmond, Cynthia Orsak of Wharton, Margie Morris of College Station, Mary Jane Zero and Dorothy Walls, both of Palacios; nephews, Bobby Jaynes Jr. of Kemah and Jessie Zero of Galveston.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Mahavier Ryman and Katy Hicks and by brothers, Pete and Ned Banyansco.

Pallbearers are Bernard Orsak, Bernard Orsak Jr., Matthew Kiel, Bobby Jaynes Jr, and Sammy Morris.

If so desired, memorials may be made to MEHOP, 101 Ave. F North, Bay City, TX 77414.

Funeral services are under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.

HOPKINS

Infant Blake Douglas Hopkins, 2 months, 26 days of age, died March 26, 2004 at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City.

He was born December 30, 2003 in Houston, Texas to Michael Wayne and Jennifer Louise Turner Hopkins.

Survivors include: parents, Michael and Jenni of Van Vleck; paternal grandfather, Johnny Hopkins and his wife Regina of Old Ocean; paternal grandmother, Karen Poss and her husband Tony of Van Vleck; paternal great grandmother, Sybel Spencer of Bay City; maternal grandfather, James Douglas Turner and his wife Patricia of Lake Wells, Florida; maternal grandmother, Susan Ashbrook and husband Victor of Cedar Lane; maternal great grandparents, Kenneth and Viola Rogers of Yoakum; aunts, Jolynn Woods and husband Clint of Van Vleck, Tara Foster of Columbus, Ohio, Rebecca Turner of Bunkie, Louisiana, and Patti Hibbard of Cedar Lane; numerous other great aunts, great uncles, cousins and other relatives.

A graveside funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck with the Rev. Jack Hudson officiating.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

HUERTA

Raymond Huerta Jr., 46, of Van Vleck passed away March 28, 2004 at his residence. He was born January 1, 1958 in Bay City, Texas to Raymond Huerta Sr. and Elena Lopez Huerta.

He was a member of the Rose of Sharon Pentecostal Church and had been a resident of Van Vleck for 39 years.

He is survived by: his parents, Raymond and Elena Huerta of Van Vleck; two daughters, Loveisa Lopez and Amanda Lewis, both of Bay City; son, Raymond Huerta III of Bay City; three sisters, Alice Cervantes of Van Vleck, Stella Vargas of Brazoria and Dorene Tabares of Van Vleck; two brothers, Martin Huerta of Pledger and Joseph Huerta of Van Vleck; and by seven grandchildren.

A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at the Rose of Sharon Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Janie Robles officiating.

Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Pallbearers include Santos Avila, Leon Garza, Lionel Garza, Paul Quiroga, Arthur Cervantes Jr., Damacio Vargas Jr., Smiley Huerta and Amando Tabares Jr.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

LITTLETON

Quintin Littleton was born to Bettye J. Pollard and Dallas Pollard on August 8, 1961 in Bay City, Texas.

His public education was completed and enjoyed in Bay City where he graduated in 1980. He began his career in the oilfield business working for Gray Tool Company, Schlumberger, and Hughes Tool. He also served as a security guard for several companies in the Houston area. He later received his aviation licenses from Rice Aviation School in 1990, where he began and ended his career with Continental Airlines. He also received numerous certificates, letters of recommendation and awards while exceeding the expectations of management.

He married Candy Ordonez and to this union one child was born, Leticia Marie Littleton. Earlier in life he had one son, Jermaine Deloach.

He confessed Christ and was baptized at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Reverend L.C. Cunningham, Sr. and he was a devout believer in Christ.

On March 29, 2004 his name was called and he answered.

He was preceded in death by his mother Bettye J. Pollard and his father Dallas Pollard. He was blessed with a loving step-mother Leona Porter and the best step-father Bobby Joe Flagg.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife Candy Littleton; two children, Leticia Littleton and Jermaine Deloach; two grandchildren, Devon and Rashad; one sister, Anna Pettus and husband Billy of Bay City; three brothers, Robert L. Littleton III of Houston, Desi D. Littleton and wife Pamela of Bay City, Jeff Pollard of Houston; his only godson Reggie Matthews, Jr.; brother-in-laws, Tino, Pete, Paz, Louis (deceased) and Matthew Ordonez; sister-in-laws, Veronica, Janie, Mary, Blasa, Helen (deceased) and Nica Ordonez; two aunts, Claudia Sauceda of Bay City and Salita Sauceda of Houston, Texas; host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, an abundance of relatives, special friends, and MOB's (The Men on Bikes).

Service will be held 12 p.m. Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church 1208 Avenue C in Bay City with the Rev. L.C. Cunningham, Jr. officiating.

GLADYS MAE PENNY

Gladys Mae "Meme" Penny, 78, of Bay City died March 26, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston. She was born March 15, 1926 in Eagle Lake, Texas to the late Raymond and Ellen Bernice White Spitdowski Sr.

Mrs. Penny was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a resident of Bay City since 1940.

Survivors include: two daughters, Sue Richardson of Sour Lake, Texas and Lola Utz and husband Bob of Victoria; two sons, Jimmy Penny and wife Renate of Houston and Billy Penny and wife Dianne of Bay City; seven sisters, Dorothy Giaimo of Northbrook, Illinois, Minnie Turner and husband Deon of Bristol, Virgin Islands, Ruth Bunkley of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Martha Spitdowski of Dallas, Evelyn Wages and husband Douglas and Ann Church and husband Billy all of Pell City, Alabama, and Ellen Fowler and husband Don of Ganado; brother; Paul David Spitdowski and wife Janet of Scottsville, Kentucky; four grandchildren: Jamie Lynn Blanchard and husband Troy of Sour Lake, Stephen Hartman and wife Pam of Savannah, Georgia, Gregory Penny and wife Leslie, and Kimberly Kishlock all of Bay City; and seven great grandchildren, Hunter Brooke and Camryn Blanchard, Miranda Kishlock, Lafayette Dominic Penny, Christopher, Katlyn, Amber Hartman (Penny).

She was preceded in death by her husband L. D. Penny, and two brothers, Ray Spitdowski, Jr. and Howard Spitdowski.

Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 29, 2004, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating.

Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Walter Penny, Robert Staten, Larry Ingam, Dennis Schomburg, Greg Penny, Troy Blanchard and Dale Callihan.

Honorary pallbearers were Stephen Hartman and Clay Penny and Don Fowler.

Arrangements were with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

ARLITT

Infant James Ray Arlitt died May 31, 2004 at the Angleton-Danbury Hospital in Angleton. He was born May 30, 2004 in Angleton, Texas to William Ray and Treba Bonner Arlitt.

Survivors include: his parents; twin brother, William James Ray; sisters, Beverly and Nichoel Wood all of Old Ocean; grandparents, James Bonner and Dale Wheeler both of Brazoria; Fritz and Becky Arlitt of Alvin; and Keith and Pam Blades of Old Ocean; great grandparents, Treba Bonner of Brazoria, Rex and Norma Lee of Dallas, Bill Arlitt of Bay City, and Jim and Jan Reddoch of Old Ocean; and great-great grandmother, Irene Watkins of Old Ocean.

Graveside funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004 at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck with the Rev. Dr. Earl Breazeale officiating.

Pallbearers will be James Bonner and Jim Reddoch.

Arrangements with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

BOOTS

Earl E. Boots, 63, of Bay City passed away Saturday, May 29, 2004 at the Matagorda General Hospital. Earl was born in Mallory, New York on August 27, 1940 to parents Earl Edwin and Lucille Johnson Boots.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his grandmother who raised him, Doris Johnson, and a son, Christopher Boots.

He is survived by: his wife, Lorna Boots of Bay City; sons, Kevin Boots and Dennis Boots both of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jeffery Boots of Bay City; a daughter, Vicky Schafer of Bay City; sisters, Delores Campbell of Sweetwater, Tennessee, Patricia Kowanes of Hastings, New York, and Doris Pullaschi of Richville, New York; also his grandchildren, Holly Schafer, Jonathan Schafer, Michelle Boots, Christopher Boots, and Natasha Boots.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 3, at 2 p.m. at the Bay City Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. L.V. Harvey officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Sam Thomas , Waylon Bryant, Joe Rodriguez, Carl Koch, Andy Veliz, Angel Chavez.

Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.

BUCEK

Wilton John "Bill"Bucek, 86, of Bay City passed away May 28, 2004 at his residence. He was born June 21, 1917 in Hungerford, Texas to William Bucek and Lydia Wasek Bucek.

He was a lifelong resident of Bay City and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

He is survived by: his wife, Nora Leaser Bucek of Bay City; daughter and son-in-law, JoNell and Joe Powell of Bay City; son and daugher-in-law, John Wayne Bucek, Sr. and wife Linda of Markham; three sisters, Lottie Lee Kocian of Bay City, Georgie Dornak of Midfield, and Evelyn Smith of Houston; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services were held at 10 am Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Chester Sassman officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck.

Pallbearers were Dennis Welfel, Robert Hoffman, Winston Baker, Timothy Lynn Danner, Daniel Mitchell, and James Mitchell. Arrangements were with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

RADFORD

Nema Radford, of Markham died May 29, 2004. She was born May 20, 1908 in Tacoma, Washington.

She has been a resident of Matagorda County since 1950.

A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2004 at First Baptist Church in Markham.

Survivors are: sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Jeannie Radford of Angleton, Charles and Gayle Radford of Prairie Grove, Arkansas, Ronald and Sherri Radford of Markham, and Stanley Radford, Jr. of Markham; 15 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, 27 great-great grandchildren and two great-great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents, husband, Stanley Radford, Sr. and son Kenneth Radford.
