BILLY JOE DUBOIS

Billy Joe DuBois, 82, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2008 at his residence in Leon County. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2008 at the Floyd County Memorial Park. Pastor Rance Young officiated. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Sunday from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Services were under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

Billy Joe as born and raised in Floydada and graduated from Floydada High School. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II on the U. S. S. Wasp. Mr. DuBois was a farmer and rancher all his life. He moved to Leon County with his wife, Wanda Nell DuBois in 1985.

DuBois was preceded in death by his wife of over fifty-eight years, Wanda Nell Lackey DuBois; one grandson, Billy Cole DuBois and his parents, William Edell and Audrey Kennedy DuBois.

He is survived by two sons, Billy Craig DuBois and wife, Gail Poteet of Floydada and Quinn DuBois and wife, Michelle Poteet of Jewett; five grandchildren, Christie DuBois Cruse and husband, Talon of Flomot, Cindy DuBois and Barry Eddleman of Floydada, Kody Michael DuBois of Jewett, Kyle Willis of Marlin and  Taylor Kristen DuBois of Jewett; five great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Bereavement Fund at First Baptist Church of Floydada, Light the Cross, c/o American State Bank in Floydada or to the Floydada Senior Citizens Center.

ALBERT A. GALLOWAY

Albert A. (Al) Galloway, Jr., died on Friday, December 19, 2008 at the Mangold Memorial Hospital in Lockney at the age of 85.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 26, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Floydada. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sally. They were married for 61 happy years.

Al was born in 1923, on a farm outside McCauley,  Texas. He was a great basketball player in high school, once playing a game with a taped broken wrist.

When the war started, he was 19 and served in the Army Air Corp as a flight engineer on B-17's, an airplane he considered to be the best ever built. After the war he and Sally moved to the South Plains to farm. He had an early interest in soil and water conservation, and installed one of the first recharge systems for conserving runoff water.

A resident of Floydada for 56 years, Al later became an award-winning school teacher in Floydada until his retirement. He was a great storyteller, and loved to visit with his friends of all ages and walks of life. A lifelong Democrat, Al got to vote for Franklin Roosevelt and Barack Obama.

He is survived by his two sons, Randall Galloway of Santa Fe, New Mexico and Dana Scott and his wife, Cecilia of Fort  Washington, Maryland and by his grandsons, Spencer and Charles Inada.

BOBBY PINNER

Bobby Pinner, 66, of Lockney, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at his residence.

Private family memorial services were held Friday, December 19, 2008 in Lockney. Pastor Harold Abney officiated.

Arrangements were under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Lockney.

Local survivors include his wife of over 46 years, Glenda Pinner, of Lockney; two daughters, Missy Minick and husband, Charlie and Susy Saul and husband, Scott; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family suggests memorials be made to Hospice Hands of West  Texas.

BILL THOMPSON

Bill Thompson, 79, of Plainview, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008 at Covenant Hospital Plainview.

Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2008 at the Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview. Jay Don Poindexter officiated. Services were under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Lockney.

Thompson was born on February 3, 1929 to Ivan  Jefferson Thompson and Mable (Teems) in Floyd County,  Texas. Bill married Vivian Lavern Scott on September 26, 1946 in Clovis, New Mexico. They were blessed with three children. He was a life long resident of Floyd County. He was a farmer/rancher for 65 years and was a member of the Lockney Masonic Lodge.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a son, Tim Thompson.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 62 wonderful years, Lavern Thompson of Plainview; two daughters, Debbie and Wilmer Archer of Lockney and Vivian and Ricky West of Dickens; six grandchildren, Michelle and Ray Dubose, Melissa and Shawn Kunselman, Jeff and Niki Archer, Clint Bingham, Meagan Thompson and Laura West and four great-grandchildren.

Family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity.

ELIZABETH AVIS KEETER HARWELL

Elizabeth Avis Keeter Harwell, age 83, passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at the Covenant Hospital Plainview.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Lockney. Pastor Eddie Helms officiated. Burial followed at the Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Avis Keeter Harwell was born on October 24, 1925 in Canton, Georgia to Walter Keeter and Lecie (Putman) Keeter. Elizabeth moved to Plainview from Mustang,  Oklahoma in 2000. She loved working with her flower garden in her back yard. Elizabeth was a member of the Baptist Church.

Mrs. Harwell is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lecie Keeter, her husbands, Joe Duanes, and Bill Harwell, and two brothers, Olin and W. A. Keeter.

She is survived by two sisters, Wynelle George and husband, Bud of Tulia and Alice Tiller of Chico; fourteen nieces and nephews and caretaker, Connie Espinoza.

Family suggests memorials be made to the Lockney Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 708, Lockney, TX. 79241

FAYE LANDRUM

Faye (Race) Landrum, age 90, formerly of Lockney, passed away on January 22, 2009 in Plainview.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2009 at Calvary Baptist Church. Pastor Brian Smith officiated under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home. Interment followed at Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Lockney. Visitation was held Sunday, January 25, 2009 from 4-5 p.m. at the Lemons Funeral Home.

Faye Race was born on March 25, 1918 in Everman,  Texas near Fort Worth to John E. Race and Frances (Aday) Race. She married Regnaild Wade Landrum on June 12, 1938 in Floydada,  Texas. She was a homemaker. Faye was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lockney and Calvary Baptist Church in Plainview.

Faye was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Regnaild Landrum, one son, Floyd Dennis Landrum and one infant daughter, Gay Lynn Landrum.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Thompson and husband, Bill of Plainview; her son, Merle Ray Landrum and wife, Phyllis of Houston; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one-step great-grandchild and two special nephews, Don Race of Lubbock and James Race of Plainview.

Memorials in Faye's name may be made to Area Community Hospice at 3109 Olton Road, Suite C, Plainview, TX. 79072.

Wilma Graves
Services for Wilma Jean Graves, 73, of Idalou will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 12, 2003 in the Idalou First Baptist Church with Dr. Kermit Little officiating. Burial will follow in the Idalou Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo. Mrs. Graves died early Thursday morning in Lubbock's University Medical Center. She was born Sept. 13, 1929 in Robertson,  Texas to George William and Theodoshia Graham Parchman. She attended Robertson schools. On June 8, 1947 whe married W. E "Dub" Graves in Robertson. He preceded her in death August 14, 1988. She was a homemaker and a member of the Idalou First Baptist Church. She moved to Idalou in 1963 from Lubbock. She is survived by a daughter Marcia Gail Franklin of Robertson, a brother, Richard Parchman of Lubbock, two granddaughters and their husbands, Alicia and Daniel Shaver of Sherman, and Laura and Sonny Mays of Sweeney, Tx. and two great grandchildren Joseph and Krislyn. Pall bearers are Jarrel Young, Scotty Boggs, Budy Rowan, Joe Franklin, Zirgie Rowan, Kathy Aleman.

Howard Hickman
Services for Howard Milton Hickman, 86, of Crosbyton will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 19, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in McAdoo with the Rev. Les Griffin officiating and the Rev. Robby Harris assisting.
Burial will be in McAdoo Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.
Born on October 30, 1916 as the first son of Lloyd and Verna Mary Hickman, Howard Hickman passed on at the Veterans Medical Cener in Big Spring,  Texas on April 17, 2003. He was a Veteran of WWII where he served in Italy and the Middle East and made a complete trip around the world before he was honorably discharged three years later. After the war he meet and married Billie Louise Paty in 1949. They settled down and became farmers in partnership with his brother Guinn until 1976 when Howard retired. He lived in Crosbyton for 15 years.
His favorite pastimes were tinkering and repairing anything that needed fixing, fishing and playing the harmonica.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in McAdoo and later the First Baptist Church in Crosbyton where he was a member of the Downtown Bible Class.
Survivors include his wife, Billie, a son Johnny of San Angelo, two daughters Linda Whitaker and Janet Fuentes both of Lubbock and eleven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Kris Whitaker, Stacy Whitaker, Jonathan Hickman, Jesse Hickman, Daniel DePauw, Lance Landusky, James Potts.

R. W. "Dub" Griffin
Services for R. W. "Dub" Griffin, 66, of Crosbyton will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, April 23, 2003 at the Crosbyton First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bud Kidwell officiating and the Rev. Bob Kelley assisting.
Burial will be in Crosbyton Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton.
He died Monday, April 21, 2003 in Crosbyton Hospital. He was born June 21, 1936 in Crosbyton. He married Bonnie Lightner Lowe on May 25, 1976 in Crosbyton.
He was a member of the Crosbyton First United Methodist Church where he served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee. He served on the Crosby County Fair Board and the Pioneer Memorial Board. He was awarded the Crosbyton Chamber of Commerce "Citizen Through the Years" award in 1991, and was recognized as "Man of the Year" in 1998. He was awarded the Crosbyton Booster Club Award and the Friends of the 4-H Award in 1986. He worked for the DANA Corporation "WIX Filters" division for 38 years and won the "Top Salesman Performance Award" many times. He lived in Crosbyton most of his life. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and the Bay of Pigs invasion.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Jo Anna Richardson.
Survivors include: his wife Bonnie of Crosbyton, two daughters; Marcy Brister of Lubbock and Angie Bleacher of Colorado Springs, CO, a son Michael Lowe of  White River Lake,  Texas, two brothers; Arthur Griffin of Lubbock, Forrest Griffin of Ralls, five grandchildren and one great grandson, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be: Lloyd Martin, Kenneth Witt, Dwayne Cornelius, George McNeill, Duane Robinson, Euclid Maze, and Mabry Greenhaw. Honorary Pallbearers will be the DANA Corporation "WIX Filters" employees.
Memorials may be made to the Crosbyton First United Methodist Church General Fund P. O. Box 476 Crosbyton,  Texas 79322.

M. T. "Theady" Darden
Graveside Services for M. T. "Theady" Darden, 90, of Lubbock and formerly Lorenzo, will be at 11:30 AM, April 24, 2003 in Lorenzo Cemetery. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, April 24, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Lorenzo with the Rev. Price Mathieson, officiating and Rev. D. L. Lowrie and Rev. Dennis Williams assisting.
He died Monday, April 21, 2003 at Grace House in Lubbock. He was born in Tuxedo,  Jones County,  Texas on July 27, 1912. His parents were William Wallace and Josephine Riddle Darden. Theady was the youngest of seven children all of whom preceded him in death.
Theady finished ninth grade at Webb School on the East Plains and attended schools in Girard, Jayton and Clarendon as well. He worked on ranches from the age of twelye until he started farming near Lorenzo in 1932. He, along with his brother Joe helped build U. S. Highway 82 from Lubbock to Crosbyton. On Dec. 30, 1933 he married Verna Wristen of Lorenzo at Abernathy in a 1929 Chevrolet Sedan.
Ranching was his passion and he owned ranches in Dickens County for many years. He was a member of the National Quarter Horse Association, Southwest Cattleman's Association, a charter member of Crosby County Sheriff's Posse and  Texas Tech Ranching Heritage Association. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, he served on the Lorenzo School Board and was a member of the Lorenzo First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and church treasurer for many years. He was instrumental in starting the Mexican Baptist Mission in Lorenzo which is now the Iglesia Bautista Jerusalem. His love for missions took him to Alaska, Japan, the state of  Washington and Brazil. For twenty four years he served on the Board of Trustees for Plains Baptist Assembly. He also served on the executive board of the Baptist General Convention of  Texas. In 1990 he was named the Outstanding Layman of the Year for the Lubbock Baptist Association.
He is preceded in death by: his wife Verna, who passed away Feb. 5, 1993, a daughter Betty Lockwood and a great granddaughter Molly Wristen McCurdy.
Survivors include three daughters; Mary Mathieson of Abilene and her husband Price , Myrna Parsons of Lubbock and her husband Randy, Bobbie Jean Eaker of Altus,  Oklahoma and her husband Allen, grandchildren; Renee and Kevin Burkman of Abilene, Pam and Randy Kettleboeter of Marietta, CA, Matt and Beck Parsons of Cottage Grove, Oregon, Ron and Susan Lockwood of Bolton, MA, Mark and Cindy Lockwood of Alpine, Todd and Rebecca Eaker of Atlanta, GA and Jason Eaker of Altus, OK. He is also survived by Robert and Sharon Lockwood of Lorenzo and Pam and Craig Cook of Hale Center, and by six great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Matt Parsons, Randy Kettleboeter, Kevin Burkman, Todd Eaker, Jason Eaker, John McCurdy and Craig Cook.
Memorials may be made to Plains Baptist Assembly RR 3, Box 162 Floydada,  Texas 79235 or a charity of choice.
The family will receive Friends at Adams Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, April 23, 2003.

Jose Martinez
Services for Jose Martinez, 72, of Ralls will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at St. Michael?s Catholic Church in Ralls with the Rev. Leonardo Pahamtang officiating. Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Ralls.
He died Sunday, April 27, 2003 in Crosbyton Hospital. He was born on October 21, 1930 in Yorktown,  Texas, to Isaac and Maria Guzman Martinez. He married Belia Casarez on Dec. 28, 1955 in Karnes City,  Texas.
He was a member of St. Michael?s Catholic Church and a farmer. He moved to Ralls from O?Donnell in 1971.
He is preceded in death by two brothers: Ruben and Benito Martinez.
Survivors include, his wife Belia of Ralls, 5 sons Robert of Ralls, Joe, Jimmy, Ricky and Raymond all of Conway, Arkansas, two daughters Rollie Villanueva of Ralls and Hortencia Puente of Okinawa, Japan, three brothers, Clemente and Anselmo both of Brownfield and Raul of Meadow, five sisters, Consuelo Rodriguez of Levelland, Lillie Carter of Arizona, Ofelia Garza of Ralls, Adelita Alonzo of Meadow and Elouisa Guzman of Loop, 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Ralls EMS 801 Ave. I Ralls,  Texas 79357.

Addie Mae Moore
Services for Addie Mae Moore, 90, of Lorenzo will be at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at the Lorenzo First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Williams and Michael Matthews officiating. Burial will be in Lorenzo Cemetery under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.
She died Saturday, April 26, 2003 at Lubbock?s Covenant Medical Center. She was born December 24, 1912 in Bosque County,  Texas to John Claude and Annie Tressie Neystel Abernathy. She married Clyde Alfred Moore on June 5, 1930 in Hartley,  Texas. He preceded her in death on July 18, 1979.
She was a member of the Lorenzo First Baptist Church. She worked for the Lorenzo School District in the school cafeteria. She was a homemaker and avid gardener. She moved to Lorenzo in 1936 from Hartley.
She is preceded in death by a daughter Jean Nettles who died on January 18, 1987, a brother Owen Abernathy and a sister Clara.
Survivors include: a son, Larry Moore of Lorenzo, a sister Jimmie Cox of Munday five grandchildren; Rick Nettles, Steve Nettles, Randy Nettles, D. J. Starks and Jeanne
14 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie Minor, D. J. Starks, Rick Nettles, Steve Nettles, Randy Nettles, and Mike Forseth

Vernie Killian
Services for Vernie Killian, 90, of Lorenzo will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 2, 2003 at Lorenzo First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under direction of Adams Funeral Home of Lorenzo.
She died Wednesday, April 30, 2003 in Lubbock. She was born October 31, 1912 in Martins Mill, Van Zandt,  Texas. She married Coyn Edwin Killian on October 22, 1933 in Idalou,  Texas. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1975.
She was a member of the Lorenzo First Baptist Church, the Order of Eastern Star where she was a past Worthy Matron, the Lorenzo Women's Study Club where she was a 53 year member and served as president from 1957-59, and the Lorenzo Bridge and Garden Club. She was a graduate of Draughn's Business College. She always had a large garden and shared food with friends and neighbors and loved to cook for both Coyn's family and her side of the family. She had lived in the Lorenzo area since 1933.
Survivors include two daughters; Bettye Miers of Lubbock, Kay Quinn of Lubbock, a brother, Lyndell Peel of Ronan, Montana, three sisters; Artel Pointer of Lubbock, Model McCright of Midland, Nell Luck of Lubbock, 5 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
