Francis Ray Butter

June 6, 1932 - Sept. 25, 2005

Francis Ray Butter, 73, of Wadsworth, died September 25, 2005.

He was born June 6, 1932 in Francisville, Texas, to Frank Lawrence Butter and Katie Ryman Butter.

He was a lifelong resident of Wadsworth, a farmer and the former owner of Butter’s Cut Rate Liquor Store.

He is survived by: his wife, Lothell Marie Culver Butter of Wadsworth; and by one sister, Evelyn Baas of Houston, Texas.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wadsworth, with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating.

Interment will follow at St. Francisville Cemetery in Wadsworth.

Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City, 979-245-4613.

Shane Dickerson Carter

Feb. 27, 1955 - Sept. 23, 2005

Shane Dickerson Carter, of Montgomery, Texas, left this world and joined her Heavenly Father on September 23, 2005.

She was born to John and Joan Dickerson on February 27, 1955, in Bay City, Texas.

Shane grew up in Bay City and lived her early adult years there. She graduated in 1977 from Southwest Texas State University with a degree in Interior Design.

A member of ASID, she was co-owner and designer of Interiors by Shane in Bay City for many years, and later was a partner in Lagniappe.

In 1988, Shane married Don Carter and moved to the Conroe area. The family has since resided in Walden on Lake Conroe.

Because of Don’s career with Edward Jones, Shane had many rewarding friendships and experiences with the Edward Jones “family.”

Shane was a devoted wife, mother, daughter and friend. A talented designer by training and instinct, she also was people oriented, as her former clients would attest.

Shane possessed a lifelong passion for dance, from childhood recitals, to the disco dance floor, to her middle-age tap lessons and performances.

Her positive outlook, her sense of style and her exuberant personality will be sorely missed.

Services for Shane will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2005, at Metcalf Funeral Chapel in Conroe, with the Rev. Mike Landes and the Rev. Mike Steele officiating.

A graveside service will be at 4 p.m. at Cedarvale Cemetery (north entrance) in Bay City, with the Rev. John Pope officiating.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, at Metcalf Funeral Home.

Shane is survived by: her husband, Don Carter; son, Mark; parents, John and Joan Dickerson; siblings, John Dickerson III and Jane Dickerson; nieces, Evan Wheat, Lauren Wheat and Caroline Dickerson; and nephew, Hawes Dickerson.

In addition, she is survived by Lynn Longwill, Barb Holt, Rita Hinds, Diana Mathis, Cindy Garrett, Bruce Larson (Mark’s godfather) and a host of other friends and family.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Carter, Don Heathcott, Jimmy Maxwell, Duane Rossmann and Bruce Larson,

In memory of Shane, donations may be made to the Montgomery County Community Foundation, 57 Blush Hill, Conroe, Texas, 77304, or the charity of your choice.

J.L. James, Jr

Aug. 29, 1953 - Sept. 16, 2005

On August 29, 1953, a son was born to J.L. and Willie Pearl James Sr. in Pledger, Texas, named J.L. James Jr.

He was raised and attended school in Van Vleck, Texas. He accepted Christ at an early age.

After graduating from high school, he attended Prairie View A&M University and shortly after joined the United States Army.

He was united in Holy Matrimony to Trina Williams on July 17, 1973. Two children blessed this union, Olympia and Broderick James.

He was called home on Friday, September 16, 2005, in Houston, Texas.

He leaves to cherish many memories: a loving wife, Trina James; two children, Broderick James and Olympia James of Killeen, Texas; four sisters, Edith Johnson of Bay City, Texas, Earnestine Murroy of Pledger, Texas, Bonnie Lola Allen of Bay City, and Tiny Faye James of Bay City; three brothers, Carlton Ray James and Freddie C. James of Bay City, and Andrew James (Judy) of Dickerson, Texas; two granddaughters, Kosmone and Brelyn James; three grandsons, Trashode, Arthur and Broderick Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his daughter and parents, J.L. and Willie Pearl James.

Funeral services for J.L. James Jr, 52, of Bay City, Texas, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 1, 2005, at St. John Baptist Church in Van Vleck, Texas, with the Rev. Ruben Newell.

Burial will follow in Union Baptist Cemetery in Pledger, Texas.

Mr. J.L. James Jr. will lie in state from 1 p.m. until the funeral services Saturday.

Visitation will be in the chapel of Green’s Mortuary from noon until 8 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2005.

Green’s Mortuary of Bay City, Texas is in charge of arrangements, 979-245-3489.

Tillie Massingill

July 22, 1919 - Sept. 24, 2005

Tillie Annie Massingill, 86, of El Campo, died on September 24, 2005.

She was born on July 22,1919, in Pierce, Texas, to the late Frank and Rosalie Prochoska Hubenak, and had resided at the Legacy in Bay City for the past seven years.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the SPJST. Tillie was a homemaker.

Tillie is survived by: sons, C.J. Massingill and wife Bonita of Canyon Lake, Ron Massingill and wife Brenda of Dallas, and Ken Massingill and wife Kathy of Grandbury; grandchildren, Rem Massingill, Kim Lowery, Tam McBee and Carol-Lin Englund; great-grandchildren, Cody Hall, Derek Hall and Tye McBee; and sister, Olga Webb of El Campo.

Tillie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, C.J. Massingill Sr., and brothers, Jimmy, Robert, Frank, Avin Sr. and Edwin Hubenak.

Visitation was at noon Monday, September 26, 2005, at Triska Funeral Home.

A parish rosary was recited at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, with funeral services to follow at 2 p.m.

Burial followed at Holy Cross Memorial Park.

Pallbearers are Tommy Hubenak, Avin Hubenak, Leon Webb, Rooster Lieb, Billy Fuechec and Daniel Hubenak.

Honorary pallbearers are Albert Wied, Richard Hubenak, Ricky Hubenak and Glen Sczech.

Berenice Savage

March 18,1920 - Sept. 23, 2005

Berenice Minerva Lund Savage, 85, of Gonzales, Texas, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2005.

Berenice was born in Milan, Minnesota, to John and Kristine Lund.

Berenice was a Registered Nurse and had studied nursing at the Rochester School of Nursing and the Mayo Clinic.

She resided for many years in Bay City, Texas, where she worked as a hospital oncology nurse, a clinic nurse and, for many years, a school nurse for the Bay City ISD.

Berenice was a member of the Lutheran Church of Appleton, Minnesota, and she attended the Presbyterian Church of Gonzales.

She served in the United States Army as a second lieutenant in the Philippines during WWII.

Bernenice was a member of the Appleton, Minnesota, VFW.

Berenice is survived by: two sons, Hamilton Wadsworth “Pip” Savage III, and wife Terri of Austin, Texas, and John Morris Savage and wife Robyn of Blessing, Texas; one daughter, Christine Eberle and husband Steiner of Gonzales, Texas; six grandchildren, Stefanie Kristine Eberle, Jessica Anna Eberle Steakley, Sundie Kristine Savage Dahlkamp, Kristine Nicole Savage Krahmer, William Jordan Savage and Emily Kaye Savage; one great-grandchild, Anna Christine Steakley; and one sister, Harriet Morton of St. Paul, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Clarence Oscar Lund.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2005, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Appleton, Minnesota, with the Pastor Scott Nagel officiating.

Joyce Walker

Oct. 24, 1949 - Sept. 21, 2005

Joyce Gayle Richardson Walker, 55, of Dickinson, passed away Wednesday evening, September 21, 2005, at Spring Branch Medical Center Hospital.

Gayle was the first-born child of K.J. and Bessie Richardson.

After graduating from Van Vleck High School, Gayle attended Massey Business College.

Gayle married Bobby Harold Walker, Jr. on April 17, 1981, and they made their home in Dickinson, Texas.

Gayle was working as an administrative assistant for Galveston County in the County Extension Office, where she devoted her time and talent to children through 4-H and many other organizations.

She was an active member of Grace Community Church, where she taught a weekly Bible class for young children.

Gayle was preceded in death by her father, K.J. Richardson.

She is survived by: her husband, Bobby Harold Walker, Jr. of Dickinson; two daughters, Tricia Marks and husband Andy of Florida, and Amanda Meadows and husband Adam of League City; two grandsons, Ryan and Nicholas Jenkins of Bay City; mother, Bessie Richardson of Sweeny; two sisters, Wanda Redd of Bay City, and Patty Wright and husband Dale of Sugar Land; one brother-in-law, Tommy Walker and wife Linda of Texas City; plus six nieces, two nephews and many other loving family members and wonderful friends…and her devoted pet schnauzer Belle and loving grand-dog Maggie.

Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, 2005, at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas.

Interment to follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.

Family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 30, 2005, at Crowder Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Corrie Bowen, Jeff Davenport, William Johnson, Bill McGlothlin and Sean Walker.

Gayle will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Vernell Abbott

Oct. 28, 1934 - Nov. 21, 2005

Funeral services for Vernell Abbott, 71, of Bay City, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2005, at New Hope Baptist Church, Bay City, with the Rev. T.L. Richardson, eulogist.

Burial will follow at Pleasant Green Cemetery in Hudgin’s Settlement.

Visitation will be from 3 until 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel.

She was born in Hudgin’s Settlement, October 28, 1934, to Ollie Abbott, Sr., and Lena Weldon Abbott, and passed away November 21, 2005, in Bay City, Texas.

Survivors include: two daughters, Gwen Woods of Houston, and Wanda Hall of Lake Jackson; three sons, Eddie Allen, Jr. of Angleton, George Allen of Houston, and Charles Allen of Houston; two sisters, Johnnie Brown of Houston, and Blanche Jackson of Bay City; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three aunts; a former husband, Eddie Allen, Sr.; a host of nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.

Arrangements are with Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home, Bay City, Texas.

Patricia Sue Alameda

Nov. 29, 1960 - Nov. 17, 2005

Patricia Sue Alameda, 44, of (Miracle Run Community) Fairview, West Virginia, died Thursday, November 17, 2005, at the Clay-Battelle Community Health Center in Blacksville.

She was born November 29, 1960, at Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, a daughter of Donald G. Tennant and Lorelei Toney Tennant of Miracle Run.

Patricia was a shoe specialist and was the manager of the shoe department of the Target store in Morgantown.

She attended the Bula Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by: her husband, Augustine Alameda; four sons, Craig Dintaman and Cory Dintaman, both of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, Augustine Alameda Jr. and Paul Angel Alameda, both of Bay City, Texas, and one daughter, Crystal M. Alameda of Austin, Texas; one brother, Donald G. Tennant II of Houston, Texas; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Chey Ann Dintaman.

Friends may call at the Owen-Neely Funeral Home in Blacksville from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m. Monday.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Samuel K. Hibbs, Jr. officiating.

Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
