Edgar Brooker

Edgar Brooker, 81, of Cedar Lane, died January 26, 2006, at the Veterans Regional Hospital in Houston, Texas.
He was born March 31, 1924, in Jupiter, Florida, to the late Abner and Bessie Martin Brooker.
Mr. Brooker was a member of the Cedar Lane Baptist Church and a resident of Cedar Lane since 1990.
He served with the 1st Marine Division during World War II.
He participated in occupations of Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu and the Palau group of islands.
He was wounded in action September 1944. Mr. Brooker retired as a supervisor from Serta Mattress Co. after 40 years of service.
Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Kathryn Shipman Brooker of Cedar Lane, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond Lee and Nancy Brooker of Bay City; sister, Nina Jean Price of Florida; brother, Elmer Brooker of Okeechobee, Florida; five grandchildren, Katie Brooker, Justin D. Brooker, Amanda L. Brooker and Mycah K. Brooker, all of Bay City, and Jannell Bostic Davidson of North Carolina.
He was preceded in death by: his son, Edgar Lee Brooker; brothers, Cecil, Kermis, Edward, and Lecoats Brooker; and sisters, Bessie O’Neal and Gladys Lanier.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2006, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Zack Nicholson officiating.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas.

Lottie Lee Kocian
Feb. 8, 1921 — Jan. 24, 2006
Mrs. Lottie Lee Bucek Kocian, age 84, of Bay City and a former resident of Hungerford, died Tuesday, January 24, 2006, in a Bay City nursing home following an extended illness.
She was born on February 8, 1921, in Hungerford, Texas, the daughter of the late William Bucek and Liddie Wasek Bucek.
Mrs. Kocian was a longtime resident of Hungerford until moving to Bay City in 1979 to live with her sister, Georgie.
She married William A. (Willie) Kocian on April 4, 1946, in Wharton, and he preceded her in death on July 17, 1975.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Wilton J. Bucek and Leonard J. Bucek.
Mrs. Kocian was protestant by faith. She was a homemaker all of her life and a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 148 in El Maton.
She enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband and she had a deep appreciation for her pets.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2006, at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home, with Mr. Paul Jones officiating.
Burial followed in the Wharton City Cemetery.
Survivors include: two sisters, Georgie B. Dornak of El Campo, and Evelyn Smith of Houston. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Pallbearers were her nephews, J.W. Bucek, Ken Bucek, Dennis Dornak, Dr. Douglas Dornak, Craig Fendley and Laddis Kocian.

Henry Loose
March 18, 1943 — Jan. 25, 2006
Henry Loose, 62, of Markham, Texas, died January 25, 2006, at the Select Specialty Hospital in Houston, Texas.
He was born March 18, 1943, in Matagorda County, Texas, to the late Marcell and Annie Georgia Janise Loose.
Mr. Loose was a member of the Catholic Church of Bay City, and a resident of Markham since 1973.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 until 1964, and retired in 1997 as a plant operator for Dow Chemical Co. with 28 years of service.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jeff Nemec of Markham; sister, Letha Mae Bailey of Bay City; brother, Walter Loose of Angleton; and three grandchildren, Dustin, Dylan and Derek Nemec, all of Markham.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Loose, in October 2000.
The rosary was held at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2006, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home and the funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Friday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating.
Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were J.B. Frieley, Ram Menardo, Wayne Anderson, Manuel Anzaldua, Harry “Bubba” Janise and Benito Trevino.

Tonya Annette Smith

Tonya Annette Smith, 43, of Bay City, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2006, at her residence.
She was born February 28, 1962, in Bay City, to Eugene Hershall and Bobbie Elizabeth Byrd Sherry.
Mrs. Smith was a lifelong resident of Bay City and a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church.
Tonya is survived by: her husband, Gordon M. Smith of Bay City; daughter and son-in-law, Natasha and Shane Sullivan of Bay City; son, Gordon W. Smith of Bay City; sister and brother-in-law, Lynette and the Rev. Tommy Taylor of Brookshire; one grandchild, Kory Sullivan of Bay City; and parents, Eugene and Bobbie Sherry of Bay City.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 30, 2006 at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church, with the Rev. Sam Starks officiating.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck.
Pallbearers will be Turner Jay, Chris Owen, C.J. Ratliff, Greyson Smith, Shane Sullivan and Tommy Taylor.

Littie Darlene Hudson, 52, of Selkirk, died February 13, 2006, at her residence.
She was born October 10, 1953 in West Memphis, Arkansas, to Arthur D. Dooley and Billie Jean Shipman.
Formerly of Austin, she had lived in Selkirk since 1998.
She is survived by: her husband, Jerry Swindall of Selkirk; sons, Joel Dooley of Houston, Richard Tolbert of St. Cloud, Florida, and Jason Tolbert of Buda, Texas; sister, Lisa Slaton of Round Rock, Texas; brothers, Larry Dalton, James Leach and Jimmy Leach, all of Houston, Billy Rex Dooley of Omaha, Nebraska, and Jay Slaton of Austin; and three grandchildren.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 am Thursday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ken Thompson officiating.

Carrie Lee Phillips

Funeral services for Carrie Lee Phillips, 87, of Cedar Lake, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2006, at Bethlehem Christian Church, Cedar Lake, Texas, with the Rev. K.W. Bree, eulogist.
Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 until 9 p.m. Friday at the Duncan-Roberts Funeral Home chapel.
She was born in Sargent, Texas, March 8, 1918, to Johnnie Murphy and Roberta Gee Murphy, and passed away February 11, 2006, in Bay City, Texas.
Survivors include: a daughter, Naomi Roberson of Bay City; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Charles Spurr

Charles Albert Spurr, age 47, of Bay City, passed away at his home on February 11, 2006.
He was born in Bay City on June 17, 1958.
He was retired from Air Liquide America Corp. and spent his retirement ranching.
He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church.
He is survived by: his mother, Augusta Holub Spurr of Bay City; brothers, Stan Spurr and wife Cindy of Sugar Valley, Jim Spurr and wife Mary Jo of Houston, Chris Spurr of Bay City, Roland Spurr of Matagorda, and Wayne Spurr and wife Debbie of Friendswood; five nieces and nephews; and three great-nieces and nephews.
His father, James Spurr preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2006, at the St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Hillje.
A rosary will be recited at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, followed by funeral services to be held at 11 a.m.
Internment will be at the St. Andrew’s Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Stanley Spurr, Jr., Jim Spurr, Jr., Ricky Wendel, Larry Anderson, Richard Rooth and Watts Vaughan.

Wayne R. Rogers

Wayne R. Rogers, 63, of Rosharon, Texas passed away November 17, 2007.
He was born December 5, 1943 in Palacios, Texas to the late Otto Horace and Eugenia Schulke Rogers. He was an electrician and served in the US Army during Vietnam.
Survivors include: his wife, Sandra Rogers of Rosharon; daughter, Tanya Fuqua and husband Richard of Richmond; son, Jarrett Rogers and wife Tammy of Houston; two step-daughters, Casandra George and husband Bryan of Grandbury Texas and Kaylena Matthews of Ft. Worth; step-son, Gilbert Bayer of Houston; five sisters, Rita Nauman of Bay City, Patricia Mayo of Fairfield Texas, Kathryn Miller of Ft. Walton Beach Florida, Bettye Koontz of Palacios and Willa Koontz of Corpus Christi; brother, Marshall Rogers of Beeville; and six grandchildren: Parker, Colton and Kiley Rogers, Annabelle Fuqua, and Gilbert and Donald Bayer.
Service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating.
Interment will follow at Hawley Cemetery.

Florence “Flo” Clardy Falks

Florence “ Flo “ Falks, 65, of Angleton passed away Saturday, November 17, 2007 at her residence.
Funeral services are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at Second Baptist Church of Angleton. Burial will follow in Bay City.
Visitation will be Monday from 6 until 9 p.m. at Palms.
Florence was born October 18, 1942 in Palacios, Texas. A member of Second Baptist Church, Flo was a retired Angleton Business Woman. She was working as a Part –Time Clerk of Brazoria County District Attorney office-Civil Division.
Flo will be sadly missed by family and numerous friends who spent many weekends and holidays camping with her and Ollie. There are many happy memories of endless domino and card games while camping and at family reunions. Flo cherished and enjoyed her children and grandchildren and especially her husband of 47 years, Ollie.
Favorite pets Angel and Priss who constantly occupied her lap while traveling in the motor home will now find comfort with Ollie.
Her parents, Vernon and Geraldine “Gerri” Clardy and brother, James Cole preceded her in death.
Survivors include: her husband, Ollie of Angleton; sons, Dwayne Falks and wife Connie of Pineville, Louisiana and Keith Falks and wife Carolyn of Richwood, daughter: Cheryl McLeland and husband Don of Manvel and special daughter, Jennifer Autry of Angleton. Sisters, Lucille Dendy of Longview, Texas, Kathleen Hanks of Kountze, Texas, Bessie Jo Samuels of Kansas City, Missouri, and Gladys Clements of Palacios.
