Rodessa Ann “Ro” Marceaux

Rodessa Ann “Ro” Marceaux passed away on Friday, November 16, 2007, with her loving family by her side.
Ro was born on September 5, 1956, to Walter and Wanda Hebert LeBouef. Ro has three siblings, Darwin LeBouef, Pam Colella, and Annette Ruiz.
Ro was married to Keith Ray Marceaux on September 7, 1974, and they shared a love that began in high school and blossomed into 33 years of love, devotion, and happiness. Together they raised three loving sons, Joshua Brooks Marceaux, Chad Anthony Marceaux, and Paul David Marceaux. Ro carried herself with a sense of grace and humility extending compassion to everyone in her life. She inspired all with her ability to bestow infinite love with a sincere passion for life’s treasures. Her unconditional love for her husband and children existed with every breath she took, every beat of her heart, and every moment of her life.
Ro was not only a loving wife and mother, but also a respected businesswoman. Together, Ro and Keith owned “The Health Food Cottage”. Ro nurtured and grew the business from a small shop on Avenue G to a full service Health Food establishment on Highway 35. The store has a beautiful decorum, providing a peaceful and harmonious environment, which exudes her very essence. Ro’s charming smile, gracious and helpful persona embodied her entire staff.
Her family would like to extend a special thanks to the members of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the members of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, and all others that offered prayers and support to her and her family during their time of grief.

Services were held at the Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Reverend Susan Kennard and the Father Casey Jarzombek and processions followed at Cedarvale North Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Sandy Marceaux, Shawn Marceaux, Joshua Marceaux, Chad Marceaux, Paul Marceaux, and Darwin LeBouef.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Houston Hospice or Matagorda County Nature and Birding Center.
Alice Matilda McEwen Sauer
Feb. 3, 1920 – Nov. 18, 2007
Alice Matilda McEwen Sauer, 87, of Sugar Valley, passed away on November 18, 2007 at Gulf Coast Medical Center, Wharton, Texas after battling pancreatic cancer.
She was born on February 3, 1920 in Buckman Township, Morrison County, Minnesota to Harold Fiddis and Matilda Anne Kalis McEwen.
She graduated from Royalton High School and St. Cloud Teachers College. Alice taught in the Crosby-Ironton School District and Columbia Heights public school. She married Gerald Clement Sauer on June 14, 1952 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Royalton, Minnesota.
They were stationed at various Air Force bases, eventually moving to Orlando, Florida in August 1959. She helped found the Pinecastle Home Extension Club in 1968, serving as its first president. After her three children reached school age, she resumed her teaching career as a substitute teacher for the Orange County School District.
Gerald and Alice were active members of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church and the local Scotty Camping Club. In 1993 they moved to Sugar Valley, Texas. Alice then became an active member of the Matagorda County FCE, Matagorda County Genealogical Society, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sweeny, Texas. After the death of her husband, Gerald, she became a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband, Gerald, brothers, Harold and Linus McEwen, and granddaughter, Becky Stafford.
Survivors include: son, Paul Sauer of Sugar Valley; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and David Garner of Flower Mound, Texas, and Karen and Ed Stafford of Sugar Valley, Texas; granddaughter and husband, Melissa and Jason Jurek of Markham; and granddaughters, 1st Lt Mary E. Garner of Moore, Oklahoma, and Catherine Garner of Flower Mound, Texas.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home by Deacon Wally Rodriguez and the funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 21, 2007, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father Casey Jarzombek officiating.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Joe Labuda, Richard Stafford, David Bridgwater, Darve Smith, Mike Jacobs, and Stan Spurr.
Memorials may be made to the Rebecca Stafford Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Van Vleck High School.

Eunice Thormaehlen – Critendon

Eunice Thormaehlen - Critendon, 93, of Bay City, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2007.
She was born June 30, 1914 in Karnes County, Texas to Pitkin Barnes Taylor and Mary Jones Taylor.
She was raised in Kingsville, Texas and graduated from Kingsville High School. Eunice was a resident of Bay City since 1941, a member of First Baptist Church of Bay City, and retired as a switchboard operator from Matagorda General Hospital.
She is survived by: her daughters, Billie Jean Coker of Tyler and Linda Kay Burtram of Katy; by her son, E. J. Thormaehlen, Jr. and wife Jerallyn of Boerne; and by 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands: E. J. “Ed” Thormaehlen, Sr. and E. A. “Bill” Critendon; her parents Pitkin B. and Mary Taylor; and by seven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2007 at the First Baptist Church of Bay City with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating.
Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be her grandsons: E. J. “Trey” Thormaehlen, III, Lawrence Thormaehlen, Scott Thormaehlen, Erik Thormaehlen, Dale Burtram, Jr. and Wayne Bruening.
Honorary pallbearers will be her great and great-great grandsons.

Elizabeth Alyne Davis, 82, of Blessing, Texas, died November 13, 2007.
She was born to Daniel Potter and Lillian Hiatt Potter on October 18, 1925, in Stanford, Kentucky. She was married 64 years to Jack Davis.
She is survived by: her husband, Jack Davis, of Blessing, Texas; daughters, Sandra Hamilton and husband, Wayne of Branson, Missouri, and Jackie Moore and husband, Russ of Rosharon, Texas; sons, Jim Davis and wife DruAnn of Conroe, Texas, and Randy Davis and wife Mary of Blessing, Texas; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Roy Howarton

Roy Louis Howarton “Fuzzy” stepped into his heavenly dimension November 6, 2007. Lately he spoke often of God and heaven and was prepared in his heart to meet Jesus.
He was the first born son to Marion and Barbara Turbiville Howarton on February 13, 1960.
His early growing up years were spent in Goldthwaite, Texas, where he was born. At age nine the family moved to Van Vleck, Texas, where he completed his schooling. He was a member of the Van Vleck High School band and Ag class. He was a mathematical genius. After high school, he began his career as a talented, inspirational and dedicated master automotive and diesel mechanic. Many perfectionist hours were spent on friends, family and customers’ vehicles, mud racing vehicles, and the occasional go-cart. He enjoyed playing with his grandchildren, grilling outdoors and Star Trek.
Hollie B. Hairston

Hollie B. Hairston, 77, of Bay City passed from this life November 3, 2007.
He was born October 1, 1930 in Cameron, Texas to the late Hollie B. Hairston, Sr. and Carrie Lee Johns Hairston. He met Joy Hoelewyn in late 1955 and they were married February 24, 1956. He was baptized into the Lord in West Columbia in 1957. He and Joy moved to Bay City in 1961. He was instrumental in establishing the Matthews St. Church of Christ in 1965; retired from Phillips 66 in 1994 after 46 years as lab technician; and enjoyed country life including caring for his cows, horses and dogs.
Nellie Frances Jackson

Nellie Frances Jackson was born December 26, 1921 and passed away November 1, 2007 at the age of 86. She was born in Dayton, Texas to George Frank and Nellie Mae Corse. She married Cecil Jackson April 7, 1944 in Bruni, Texas and moved to Huntsville in 1947. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Huntsville, Texas and a founding member of Elkins Lake Baptist Church.

He was born March 15, 1940, in Ganado to William Lucky Jackson and Lorena Martin. He was married to June Arnold.
Survivors include: children, Lisa Jackson of Ganado, Scott Jackson and wife Anagail of El Maton, Texas, and Kristi Jackson, of Bastrop, Texas; grandchildren, Tieler Whitaker of Bastrop, and Kerrianne and Savanna Jackson of El Maton.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Ganado Cemetery in Ganado, Texas.
Nellie Spiller Brown

Funeral services for Nellie Spiller Brown, 100, of Cedar Lane, will be held Saturday, November 3, 2007, at Shiloh Baptist Church Cedar Lane, Texas, with the Rev. Steven Staten, eulogist. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 2 until 8 p.m. at the chapel.
She was born in Cedar Lane, Texas, July 8, 1907, to Joe Spiller and Peggy Sidney Spiller, and passed away October 27, 2007, in Lake Jackson, Texas.
Lorena Williams Brown

A service of Christian Worship commemorating the Life, Love and Legacy of Lorena Williams Brown, 101, of Cedar Lane, Texas will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at First Baptist Church in Brazoria with the Pastor Steven Craig Staten I, Eulogist. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Cedar Lane.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2007 at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Cedar Lane and from 1 until 8 p.m. Friday, October 5, 2007 at E. Viola & Son Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Brown was born in Cedar Lane, Texas on Thursday, April 26, 1906 to Minnie Spiller and Clarence Williams. She departed this life and entered into life eternal on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 in Bay City, Texas.
Lorena united in holy matrimony to Mr. Israel Brown, on December 16, 1933. God blessed this union with nine children.
Survivors include: three daughters, Rosie Kemp (Chester, Sr.) and Pinkie Johnson (Herman, Sr.) of Cedar Lane, and Dorothy Wright (Ethan, Sr.) of Missouri City; one son, Nelson Brown (Erma) of Cedar Lane; a very special, reared grand-son, Allan Brown (Karla) of Cedar Lane; a daughter-in-law, Clara Brown of Galveston. There are 283 grand, great-grand and great-great- grand children; and a host of nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.

Lily Marie Harding

Lily Harding, 80, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away on September 25, 2007, peacefully at Matagorda General Hospital.
She is survived by: daughters, Terry Lee Stone of Bay City, Texas and Sheila Lou Kanos Calagno of Hawaii; brother, George William Johnson of Lakewood, Colorado; grandchildren, Kindle Dawn Stone of Bay City, Texas, Titus Calagno, Uriah Calagno and Harmony Calagno all of Hawaii.
She was preceded in death by: her loving husband, Richard K. Harding; son, Jerry Dean Lesnett; and her parents, Margaret Lily Nelson and George Franklin Johnson.
Lily had a great love for sewing and crafts and her great sense of humor and beautiful smile will be dearly missed. She was a long time resident of Salida, Colorado and lived in Bay City for the past nine months.

Addie Nealy, 93, of Bastrop, TX passed away September 17, 2007.
She was born May 5, 1914 in Robert Lee, Texas to the late Sidney D. Vowell and Ola Barnett Vowell. She was a former longtime resident of Bay City.
Survivors include: her husband, Durell Nealy of Bastrop; daughter, Connie Clark of Goodyear, Arizona; grandchildren, Jeffery Clark and Matthew Clark; great grandchildren, Jenna Clark and Thomas Clark; niece, Judy Gowan of Lake Jackson and nephew Clark Reed of El Dorado, Arizona.
A Funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, September 21, 2007 at First Assembly of God Church in Bastrop with the Rev. Phil Woods and the Rev. Sidney Watson officiating. A Graveside service followed at 3 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2007 at South Park Cemetery in Pearland.
Pallbearers were: Ken Adams, John Atkinson, Steve Barrett, Jim Cox, Fred Muniz, and Wesley Peschke.

Linda Gail Pratt Shrader

Linda Gail Pratt Shrader, age 59, of Bay City, Texas, passed away September 26, 2007.
She was born April 25, 1948 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
She was the community relations director for Matagorda Services, Inc, where she passionately advocated for the mentally challenged. Linda was known for her great sense of humor and could make anybody laugh at any given time. Her love of music was demonstrated through her beautiful singing voice.
She is preceded in death by: her father, John Pratt and her brother, Jonathon William Pratt II.
Survived by: mother, Nellie Black Pratt Beasley of Bay City, Texas and her
step-mother, Betty Pratt of Ganado, Texas.
Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Talbott, Tennessee.
