VERN CUMMINS
Funeral services for Vern Cummins, 80, will be held Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006, in the First United Methodist Church of Dumas. The Rev. Beth Harrington, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Northawn Memorial Gardens of Dumas.
Mr. Cummins died Dec. 28, 2005, in Wichita Falls.
Born Aug. 6, 1925, in Hollis, Okla., he married Ina Jean Teague on June 25, 1945, in Hollis, Okla.
He was an electrician for Diamond Shamrock and retired in 1988 after 35 years. He has lived in Dumas since September of 1950. He served in the Navy from 1943-1945. The American Legion Post 224 of Dumas will provide a flag detail.
Mr. Cummins was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dumas.
The family will be at 1122 Zauk in Dumas.
The family has requested memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 395, Dumas, Texas 79029 or the VFW Post 9022, 330 West 1st Dumas, Texas 79029.
Survivors include his wife, Ina Jean Cummins of the home; one daughter, Shirley Cummins of Wichita Falls; two sons, Travis Cummins, of Ninnekah, Okla., and Ronald and Bobbi Cummins of Mustang, Okla.; three brothers, B. A. Cummins of Dumas, Wendell Cummins of Hollis and Nolan Cummins of Seminole, Okla.; three sisters, Margaret Hassell and Velma Charles, both of Oolagah, Okla., and Peggy Tsukahara of Wiley, and four granddaughters.
Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas is in charge of funeral arrangements.

MOZELL DOOLEY
Graveside services for Mozell Dooley, 91, were held Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006, in Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray. The Rev. David Purl, pastor, of First United Methodist Church of Sunray, officiated. Mrs. Dooley died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, in Dumas. Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas was in charge of funeral arrangements.

WILMA RILEY
Funeral services for Wilma Riley, 96, were held Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, in Morrison Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Riley died Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, in Amarillo. Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas was in charge of funeral arrangements.

VIRGIL L. MASTON
Funeral services for Virgil L. Maston, 71, of Phoenix, Ariz., were held Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, in the Greer/Wilson Funeral Home of Phoenix. Mr. Maston died on Jan. 25, 2006. Greer/Wilson Funeral of Phoenix was in charge of funeral arrangements.

JOHNNY CROWNOVER
Memorial services for Johnny Crownover, 58, of Dumas, were held Monday, March 20, 2006, in the Calvary Baptist Church of Dumas. Larry Dan Melton and Brad Foster officiated. Mr. Crownover died Friday, March 17, 2006, in Amarillo. Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas was in charge of funeral arrangements.

JANELLE HINSON
Funeral services for Janelle Hinson, 83, of Dumas, were held Tuesday, March 21, 2006, in the First Presbyterian Church of Dumas. The Rev. Ben Seller, pastor, officiated. Private burial was in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Hinson died Sunday, March 19, 2006. Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors was in charge of funeral arrangements.

BILLY “BILL” RAY MCCULLAR
Funeral services for Billy “Bill” Ray McCullar, 72, of Sunray, were held Monday, March 20, 2006, in New Life Fellowship Church of Sunray. The Rev. Danny Hendricks, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Lane Memorial Cemetery in Sunray. Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas was in charge of funeral arrangements.

RUTH COOPER
Memorial services for Ruth Cooper, 92, will be held at a later date. Mrs. Cooper died Thursday, March 16, 2006, in Stratford. Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas is in charge of funeral arrangements.

ALVIN “JEW” THOMPSON
Memorial services for Alvin “Jew” Thompson,70, will be held Thursday, March 23, 2006, at 10 a.m. in Morrison Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be Rodney Harris, a family friend. Mr. Thompson died March 20, 2006, in Amarillo. Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas is in charge of funeral arrangements.

MARION ELIZABETH JONES
Funeral services for Marion Elizabeth Jones, 76, of Dumas, were held Saturday, June 10, 2006, in Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. Brad Foster, pastor, officiated.
Burial was in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Jones died Wednesday, June 7, 2006. Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors was in charge of funeral arrangements.

MONTE LEE THOMAS
Memorial services for Monte Lee Thomas will be Saturday, June 17, 2006, at 10 a.m. in the First Christian Church of Dumas. The Rev. Mike Williams, pastor of Covenant of Joy Christian Church of Amarillo, will officiate and will be assisted by Monte's four daughters. Brown’s Funeral Service in Durant, Okla., is in charge of funeral arrangements.

GORDEN W. HART
In loving memory of Gorden W. Hart, who departed this earth on June 8, 2006. Funeral services will take place in White’s Chapel of Memories in Weatherford, 10 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2006. Burial will follow in the Zion Hill Cemetery, Weatherford. Mr. Hart will lie in state beginning at 9 a.m. until service time on Monday for visitation.

ROSE ANN LAMBERT
Memorial service for Rose Ann Lambert, 68, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2006, in the First Baptist Church of Dumas. Officiating will be the Rev. Eddie Tubbs, pastor. He will be assisted by Garry Schwalk, minister of education and administrator of the church; Phil Moore, minister of music, of the church, and Zane Powers, minister of students, of the church.
Mrs. Lambert died June 8, 2006, in Dumas. Funeral arrangements are under direction of Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas.

KIETH MIXON
Funeral services for Kieth Mixon, 70, will be held Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at 10 a.m. in Morrison Memorial Chapel of Dumas. Officiating will be the Rev. Bill Goodwin, retired Methodist minister of Weatherford.
Burial will be in Northlawn Memorial Gardens of Dumas. Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas is in charge of funeral arrangements.

JAMES DEAN LANCASTER
GADSDEN, Ala. - James Dean Lancaster, 87, passed away May 21, 2006, after a long illness.
Lancaster purchased the Moore County News Press in Dumas in August 2000 and remained a major investor until his death.
Services were held May 23 in Meadow Brook Baptist Church in Gadsden, with burial in Forrest Cemetery.
He was born Sept. 1, 1918, in South Bend, Ind., and was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he completed law studies and was awarded a Doctorate of Jurisprudence.
Lancaster served as an officer in the Air Force during World War II and was honorably discharged as a captain. While stationed at Warner Robins Air Force base near Macon, Ga., he met and married Marian Waldron. They were married for 60 years.
After World War II, Lancaster answered a classified ad and went to work at General Newspapers Inc. in Macon as an accounting and legal advisor.
During his career, Lancaster owned, managed or invested in newspapers throughout the United States. He served as the closing attorney for more than 300 newspaper purchases by other individuals, and was known throughout the industry for his talent in this area.
In 1987, Lancaster started his own newspaper management company, which continues today. As chairman of Lancaster Management Inc., Lancaster believed in local newspaper control, allowing publishers to make management decisions impacting the news product.
In addition to overseeing the newspaper company, he remained active as a corporate and tax attorney until his illness.
Lancaster was a charter member of Meadow Brook Baptist Church in Gadsden, serving as church treasurer and active deacon for more than 42 years.

LEE R. “RED” ROBERTS
Funeral services for Lee R. “Red” Roberts, 84, were held Friday, June 2, 2006, in Morrison Memorial Chapel in Dumas. Officiating was the Rev. Winfred Walker, staff minister at Morrisons. Burial was in Dumas Cemetery. Flag detail was by the American Legion Post #224. Mr. Roberts died May 30, 2006, in Dumas. Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas was in charge of funeral arrangements.

RANDALL CODY SHAW
Graveside services for Randall Cody Shaw, 17, of Dinuba, Calif., were held Friday, June 2, 2006, in Smith Mountain Cemetery in Dinuba. Mr. Shaw died May 27, 2006, in Sultana, Calif. Dopkins Funeral Chapel of Dinuba was in charge of funeral arrangements.

ANN CARSON
Memorial services for Ann Carson, 83, of Oklahoma City, Okla., formerly of Dumas, were held Friday, June 2, 2006, in the Baggerley Funeral Home Chapel in Edmond, Okla. Mrs. Carson died Tuesday, May 30, 2006.

RUSS STEPHENS
Memorial services for Russ Stephens, 92, were held Friday, June 9, 2006, in the Chapel of Pandaries Village, N. M. Officiating was the family. Mr. Stephens died May 26, 2006, in Dumas. Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas was in charge of funeral arrangements.

MONTE LEE THOMAS
Monte Lee Thomas went to be with his Lord on May 24, 2006, in his residence in Buncomb Creek on Lake Texhoma in Marshall County. Brown’s Funeral Service in Durant, Okla., is in charge of funeral arrangements.

REYNA PATRICIA SERRATO
Funeral services for Reyna Patricia Serrato, 1, will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at 10 a.m. in the Iglesia Bautista Church in Dumas. Officiating will be the Rev. Ernesto Rodriguez, pastor. Burial will be in the Dumas Cemetery. The infant was born on May 2, 2005, in Dumas. Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas is in charge of funeral arrangements.

DANIEL J. “DANNY” CHACON
Memorial services for Daniel J. “Danny” Chacon, 61, will be Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at 11 a.m. in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dumas. Officiating will be Silvestre Rodriguez of the church. Morrison Funeral Directors is in charge of funeral arrangements.

ESTHER CAUTHEN
Funeral services for Esther Cauthen, 77, were held Friday, May 26, 2006, in Life Tabernacle Church in Dumas. Officiating was the Rev. Mark Wallis, pastor. He was assisted by the Rev. Dallas Stringer, a grandson.
Burial was in Dumas Cemetery. Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas was in charge of funeral arrangements.

RUSS STEPHENS
Funeral services for Russ Stephens, 92, are pending with Morrison Funeral Directors. He is the father of Linda Harp of Sunray.

JAMEY “YUNGSTA” NED
Funeral services for Jamey “Yungsta” Ned, 19, were held Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at 3 p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Dumas. Officiating will be the Rev. Vurn Martin, pastor of Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Amarillo. Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery. Mr. Ned died May 24, 2006, in Amarillo. Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas was in charge of funeral arrangements.

DOROTHY VOWELL
Graveside services for Dorothy Vowell, 83, of Dumas, were held Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, in Dumas Cemetery. Memorial services were held Saturday, in the First Baptist Church, Cactus-Etter. The Rev. Bob Ulrey, officiated.
Mrs. Vowell died Nov. 2, 2006, in Dumas.
Born Sept. 11, 1923, in Mt. Pleasant, she was owner-operator of Etter Grocery for many years, being a resident since 1942. People in the Etter-Cactus area loved to visit when they went to buy groceries. In the 1980s she started working as a security guard for the meat packing plant. Fifteen years ago, she met truck driver, Leroy Whitfield and they traveled the country on the big rig. The summer of 2006, she worked at the Etter Farmer’s Market.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Eugene, Bobby, Rodney, Harold and Billy Jack.
Memorials may be made to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. 2nd, Dumas, Texas 79029.
Survivors include Leroy, of the home; brother, Max and Anne Johnson of Lubbock. Mrs. Vowell didn’t have any children of her own, but reared John, Eddie and Gerrald as her own. She also is survived by several other nieces and nephews.

CLAUDINE HARRIS
Graveside services for Claudine Harris, 78, were held Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, in Northlawn Memorial Gardens in Dumas. Glen Walton officiated.
Mrs. Harris died Oct. 31, 2006.
Born on Feb. 17, 1928, in Post, to Claude and Stella Jackson, she married Marvin C. Harris on June 1, 1946. She was a retired hairdresser and co-owned and operated La Petite Beauty Shop in Dumas. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dumas. She was most recently a volunteer for Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a grandson, Lance Morrison in 2005.
The family has requested memorials be made to BSA Hospice, P. O. Box 950, Amarillo, Texas 79176 or to a favorite charity.
Survivors include a daughter, Shera and Doug May of Amarillo; a son, Glen Harris of Houston; a sister, Ima Lee Swanger of Brownwood; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Schooler Funeral Home of Amarillo was in charge of funeral arrangements.
