EMILY “GAYLE” (DICK) MCCREA
Funeral services for Emily “Gayle” (Dick) McCrea, 57, of Florence, Ore., were held Feb. 24, 2007, in Faith Fellowship Four Square Church in Florence.
Mrs. McCrea died Feb. 21, 2007, in Florence.
She was a 1968 graduate of Dumas High School and was a member of the National Honor Society. She worked for several years in Dumas for Sunray State Bank before moving to Oregon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jean Dick and father, C. E. Dick.
Survivors include two sons, Shawn McCrea of Dallas and Mathew McCrea of Florence; a daughter, Amanda Jean McCrea of Eugene, Ore., a brother and sister-in-law, Randall and Lois Dick of Eherberg, Ariz.

VELMA BRALY VANSTRATEN
Funeral services for Velma Braly VanStraten, 98, of Dumas, were held Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007, in Bethel Assembly of God Church. Officiating was the Rev. Josh Morris, pastor. He was assisted by the Rev. H. L. Stevens, retired minister.
Graveside services were held in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa.
Mrs. VanStraten died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007, in Dumas.
Born to Blymyer Martin Lester and Hattie Jessie Terry Lester on March 16, 1908, in Oklahoma Indian Territory, she married Hillon R. Braly on June 30, 1929, in Wheeler. She worked as a cook in the school cafeteria in Wauka.
He preceded her in death in March 1970.
On March 3, 1971, she married Joseph A. VanStraten in Pampa. They moved to Dumas. He preceded her in death in 1990.
She was a very loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Her life demonstrated the characteristics of the “Proverbial Woman” described in the Book of Proverbs. She worked for many years in her church nursery in Pampa. She participated faithfully in her church, Bethel Assembly of God, in Dumas, and was an important part of Women’s Ministries Group. She believed in the importance of church outreach and world evangelism and supported many missionary programs. She made numerous quilts for missionaries and was a faithful follower of her Lord and Savior.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dovie Collins, in 1998; one son, James Robert Braly, who was killed in action in the Korean War, and a grandson, David Collins in 1993.
The family has requested memorials be made to Memorial Hospice, 224 East Second, Dumas, Tex. 79029.
Survivors include a son, Larry Wayne and Carolyn Braly of Longview; one sister, Alma Mitchell of Fort Worth; three grandchildren, Chris Collins, Larry and Bettye Collins and Regina and Ronnie Hatter; seven great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas was in charge of funeral arrangements.

EDGAR RICHARD BROWN
Memorial services for Edgar Richard Brown, 84, of Dumas, will be held Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, at 2 p.m. in the First Street Church of Christ. Ben Merenes, pulpit minister at Georgetown Church of Christ, Dr. Edward Brown, his brother, and Art Lynch, minister, of the local church, will officiate.
His body was donated to Texas Tech Medical School.
Mr. Brown died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007.
Born in McClain County, Okla., near Purcell, on Jan. 8, 1923, to Richard Washington Brown and Mary Elizabeth McKinney Brown, he attended public schools in Washington, Edmond, Spaulding, Dustin and Okemah, Okla. He graduated from high school in Okemah and entered Central State College in Edmond in1941. At Central State he studied shop work where he began work on an elaborate set of dining room furniture. He sang in the college chorus and participated in the college debate team.
When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, he withdrew from college and entered a trade school in Bristow, Okla., where he specialized in handling sheet metal. He was employed in the Puget Sound shipyard helping America prepare warships. He was then called into the U.S. Army and spent time in Mississippi, Nebraska, Louisiana and Oklahoma. He was sent overseas and served in England, France and Germany. He was discharged from the Army after six months at Ft. Bliss in El Paso in April 1946.
In his early teens, Mr. Brown confessed his faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized by his grandfather in a stock tank just two miles north of Washington, Okla. He served as an elder and leader in First Street Church of Christ in Dumas.
Upon his discharge from the Army, he attended West Texas State College in Canyon He worked for Hoarel Signs in Amarillo building neon signs for WTU and also city signs. He worked for 10 years with Peerless Heating and Air Conditioning installing equipment in many churches of Christ in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Louisiana
On Dec. 28, 1940, he married Jeanne Lane.
In 1957, Continental Carbon Black hired Mr. Brown and the family moved to Dumas. He did pattern layout work for welders as a working foreman. After 10 years, he became project engineer retiring after 25 years. For five years he drove Dumas school buses.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and a sister.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; a daughter, Jane Alyse and Gary Ross of Searcy, Ark.; two sons, Richard Lyle and Jennifer Brown of Round Rock and Brant Lane and Aimee Brown of Dumas; four grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Edward Brown of Abilene, and numerous nephews and nieces, as well as a host of friends in the Dumas community.
The family will be at 205Bennett Drive and requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Memorial Hospice in Dumas, 209 Bliss Ave.

WILFRED J. “WILLIE” WINGO
Funeral services for Wilfred James “Willie” Wingo, 76, of Woodward, Okla., were held Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007, in the First Christian Church of Vici, Okla.
Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery.
Mr. Wingo died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, in the Clinton Veterans Center in Clinton, Okla.
Born Aug. 15, 1930, in Woodward to Earl and Eunice (Smith) Wingo, he attended numerous grade schools and graduated from Vici High School in 1948. While growing up his family attended the First Christian Church of Vici. He continued his education in Oklahoma A&M before enlisting in the United States Navy. He served his country with pride from March 1951 to May 1952 in the USN Construction Battalion in Guantonamo Bay, Cuba.
He married Peggy Rae Day in March 1953 in the Camargo Methodist Church.
Willie’s work as a construction contractor took his family to live in Vici, Sanford-Fritch, Spearman, Dumas and Woodward.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family and especially attending the multitude of his children’s school activities. He was a member of the Lions Club for 30 years and a member of the Moose Lodge in Dumas. He served as a past president of the Lions Club in Dumas.
He was baptized on July 17, 1978, in the First Baptist Church in Dumas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Eunice Wingo; by his step-father, Chester Speck, and a brother, Donald Wingo.
Survivors include is wife, Peggy, of the home; children, James and Joy Wingo of Dumas, Debra and Pete Schuman of Sunray, Sherry Easton of Albuquerque, N. M., Gary Wingo of The Colony, Janie and Paul Slagle of Dumas, Danny and Pam Wingo of Gilbert, Ariz., Kelly and Bryan Clem of Tuttle, Okla., a special granddaughter, Misty and Kevin Hightower of Dalhart; a sister-in-law, Wilma Wingo of Woodward; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 18 nieces, five nephews, and other family members and a host of friends.

SANTOS DELACRUZ CHICO
Funeral services for Santos delaCruz Chico, aka Johnny Ruiz, are pending with Morrison Funeral Directors of Dumas.
Mr. Chico died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, in Cactus.

FORREST “FROSTY” CLAYTON PIATT, JR.
Graveside services for Forrest “Frosty” Clayton Piatt, Jr., 87, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2007, in Northlawn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. John Wagoner, chaplain of Craig Methodist Retirement Center will officiate.
Flag detail will by the American Legion Post No. 224 of Dumas.
Mr. Piatt died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in Dumas.
Born Feb. 16, 1920, in Dewey, Okla, he served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a flight navigator on more than 20 bombing missions over Germany. He was awarded the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross.
On April 14, 1955, he married Jo Ann Aldridge, who preceded him in death on June 20, 2005.
He worked for Diamond Shamrock and retired as resident engineer after more than 30 years with the company.
He had been a resident of Dumas since 1955 and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and fly fisherman. He also loved to read.
He also was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Allen, on Jan. 30, 1992.
The family has requested memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 395, Dumas, Texas 79029 or Memorial Hospice, 224 E. 2nd, Dumas, Texas, 79029.
The family will be at 1316 Powell.
Survivors include two brothers, Don Piatt of Dumas and George Piatt of St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada; eight nieces and three nephews.

CALVIN GEX “LAD” BOOTHBY
Funeral services for Calvin Gex “Lad” Boothby, 52, of Dumas, were held Monday, June 25, 2007, in the North Plains Christian Church in Dumas. Officiating were Rusty Turner and Rollin Boothby.
Burial was in Texhoma Cemetery in Texhoma, Okla.
Mr. Boothby died June 21, 2007, in Wichita, Kan.
Born Nov. 19, 1954, in Guymon, Okla., he graduated from Texhoma High School and then Midwest Christian College. He earned a master’s degree from Texas A&M in Corpus Christi and later received his PHD.
He married Myra Myers on Aug. 8, 1999 in Canyon. He was a licensed professional counselor and minister of North Plains Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jewel “Julie” Jones.
The family has requested memorials be made to North Plains Christian Church, 702 Birge, Dumas, Texas79029.
Survivors include his wife, Myra Boothby, of the home; four sons, Jeremy Lad and Maricruz Boothby of Amarillo, Heath Michael and Samantha Boothby of Conway, Ark., Adam Scott Boothby of Guymon and Bret and Brandy Higginbotham of Carrollton; two daughters, Heather Diane Boothby of Guymon and Shea and Jerry Porter of Canyon; his father, D. C. Boothby Jr. and his wife, Delta of Texhoma; three brothers, Rick and Carmen Harkins and Randy and Teresa Harkins, all of Chandler, Okla., Rod and Machell Harkins of Guymon; and four sisters, Sue Clay and David Cann of Amarillo, Jane and Clif Trammell of Texhoma, Vicky Henderson of Gruver and Rhonda and Kent Hilderbrand of Midwest City, Okla.; and eight grandchildren.

TEENA SELF-WOODS
Funeral services for Teena Self-Woods, 48, were held Monday, June 25, 2007, in Mescalero Baptist Church. Officiating was the Rev. Kevin Oakley.
Burial was in Restlawn Cemetery in Hereford.
Mrs. Self-Woods died June 21, 2007.
Born on Dec. 21, 1958, in Hereford, to A. W. “Dub” and Bettye Self, she graduated from Hereford High School. She married Chris Woods in Mescalero Baptist Church on July 31, 2005. She was a member of Mescalero Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, A. W. “Dub” and Bettye Self.
The family has requested memorials be made to Assistance-Health Care Fund, C/O Cancer Treatment Center, P. O. Box 700392, Tulsa, Okla., 74170-0392.
Survivors include her husband, Chris Woods, of the home; a daughter, Jamie Yarbrough of Dallas; two step-daughters, Amber Adams of Amarillo and Christi Williamson of Decatur; three step-sons, Damon Woods and David Woods, both of Amarillo, and C. J. Williamson of Sunray; a sister, Rene and Roy Johnson of Dawn, and three grandchildren.

NITA DAFFERN
A Celebration of Life services were held Monday, June 25, 2007, in the Sunray Baptist Church for Nita Daffern, 66, of Sunray. Officiating was the Rev. David Boggs, a family member. He was assisted by the Rev. Philip Hilton, pastor of the church. Burial was in Brown Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Daffern died Friday, June 22, 2007, in Amarillo.
Born Sept. 30, 1940, in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Alonzo L. and Juanita Armenta Farnsworth, on May 25, 1957, she married William C. “Chester” Daffern in Phoenix, Ariz. She had lived in Sunray since 2004 and was an avid gardener.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Brenda Daffern, and one grandson, James Aaron Daffern.
Survivors include her husband, Chester Daffern, of the home; five sons, Chet and Tina Daffern of Aguila, Ariz., Roy and Lola Daffern of Brawley, Calif., Roland and Beth Daffern of West Morland, Calif., Wade and Irma Daffern of Calipatria, Calif., and Rodney Daffern of Sunray; three daughters, Lavonne and Eddie Burch of Modesto, Calif., Sherry and Jeffrey Brisighella of West Moreland and Peggy Hernandez of Aguila; five brothers, Richard and Terry Farnsworth of Tempe, Ariz., Robert and Karen Farnsworth of Mericopa, Ariz., and David Farnsworth, Don Farnsworth and Joe Farnsworth, all of Phoenix; two sisters, Hilda Barker of Phoenix and Glenda and Calvin Neal of Marshall; 35 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

DONALD GETMAN
Funeral services for Donald Getman, 76, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2007, in Morrison Memorial Chapel. Art Lynch, minister of the First Street Church of Christ will officiate.
Burial will be in Dumas Cemetery with Flag Detail by American Legion Post #224.
Mr. Getman died Sunday, June 24, 2007.
Born Nov. 12, 1930, in Amarillo, to Clarence and Leah Getman, he served in the Army from 1950 until 1953 receiving the Good Conduct Medal. In Tucumcari, N. M., on March 31, 1955, he married Marie Stanley, who preceded him in death on Dec. 20, 2004.
He was a longtime Dumas resident and worked in the family business, Volcanic Stone and was a member of the First Street Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Sue Getman; a son, Danny Don Getman; a brother, Frank Getman, and a sister, Leah Adell Reynolds.
The family has requested memorials be made to Odyssey Healthcare, 6900 I-40 W. Suite 150, Amarillo, Texas 79106.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon and Carl Reynolds of Waldorf, Md; four brothers, Harlan and Corinne Getman and Clarence and Dorthie Getman, all of Dumas, Raymond and Loujean Getman of Amarillo, and Earl and Bonnie Getman of Cactus; two grandsons, Zachery and Tamie Getman and Allen and Deirdre Reynolds; and four great-grandchildren.
The family has requested memorials be made to Odyssey Healthcare, 6900 I-40 W, Suite 150, Amarillo, Texas 79106.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 27, 2007, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
